Adding Integer Value To Date Time
Aug 4, 2015
I am trying to add integer value to the datetime to get the configurable "date".But it is not working out. Here is the code for it.
declare @Id int;
exec @Id = up_GetConfigurableDayInterval
print getdate() + @Id
The sp "up_GetConfigurableDayInterval", will return number of days to add the the current date time. But print getdate() + @Id , is not producing the updated result.But when ever i have replaced the variable "@Id" with a value, Say "5", it is producing the expected result.I have also tested the above code by the following:-
create table Temp(value datetime);
insert into Temp values(getdate() + @Id);
select * from Temp
But it is not having the new added datetime.

Working on a new database where the Date and Time are stored in a Date Time Field.
Then working on an OLDER database file within the same SQL Database contains these 2 items as integers:
transDate = "71615" (July 16, 2015)
transTime = "12345" (01:23:45 AM)
How do we convert both of them into a single SQL DateTime field such as "2015-07-16 01:23:45.000" so that it can be used in a join restricting to a date time in a different SQL File that properly has the DateTime in it?
This works well for converting the transDate Part in the select statement:
dbo.IntegerToDate(at.transDate) as transDate
* That returns: "2015-07-16 00:00:00.000"
* The resulting data must work directly in a Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Query using either using the "on" statement or part of the "where" clause. In other words, NOT as a stored procedure!
Also must be able to be used as a date difference calculation when comparing the 2 files Within say + or - 5 seconds.

As a DBA, I am working on a project where an ETL process(SSIS) takes a long time to aggregate and process the raw data.
I figured out few things where the package selects the data from my biggest 200 GB unpartitioned table which has a datekey column but the package converts its each row to an integer value leading to massive scans and high CPU.
Example: the package passed two values 20140714 and 4 which means it wants to grab data from my biggest table which belongs between 20140714 04:00:00 and 20140714 05:00:00.
It leads to massive implicit conversions and I am trying to change this.
To minimize the number of changes, what I am trying to do is to convert 20140714 and 4 to a datetime format variable.
Select Convert(DATETIME, LEFT(20170714, 8)) which gives me a date value but I am stuck at appending time(HH:00:00) to it.

Hello all. I was just wondering how I could add the current date and time to the name of the .bak file. I perform a full backup daily and would like to keep a weeks worth of backups, but everytime I run the job, it just overites the previous one.
The command in the wizzard is:
BACKUP DATABASE [snl] TO DISK = N'C:Backups_for_FTPSNL_Full.bak' WITH NOINIT , NOUNLOAD , NAME = N'snl backup', SKIP , STATS = 10, DESCRIPTION = N'SNL Backup', NOFORMAT
Thanks,

I need to take a temporary table that has various times stored in a text field (4:30 pm, 11:00 am, 5:30 pm, etc.), convert it to miltary time then cast it as an integer with an update statement kind of like:
Update myTable set MovieTime = REPLACE(CONVERT(CHAR(5),GETDATE(),108), ':', '')
how this can be done while my temp table is in session?

I need to add a column that has the datatype of integer with a seed and identity increment to a table that already exists and has data in it - and can't all NULLs. I have heard that this not possible if the table already exists.
I have downloaded the demo's of SQL Programmer and a couple of Embarcadero programs to see if that would help, but have had no succes to date.
Thanks for any help,

I have two columns in a table:StartDate DateTime and StartTime DateTime.The StartDate column holds a value such as 07/16/2004The StartTime column holds a value such as 3:00:00 PMI want to be able to add them in a stored procedure.When I use StartDate + StartTime I get a date two days earlier than expected.For example, instead of 7/16/2004 3:00:00 PM StartDate + StartTime returns7/14/2004 3:00:00 PM.Can anyone point out wht I'm doing wrong with this one?Thanks,lq

This is driving me nuts..
I'm trying to extract some data from a table in oracle. The oracle table stores date and time seperately in 2 different columns. I need to merge these two columns and import to sql server database.
I'm struggling with this for a quite a while and I'm not able to get it working.
I tried the oracle query something like this,
SELECT
(TO_CHAR(ASOFDATE,'YYYYMMDD')||' '||TO_CHAR(ASOFTIME,'HH24:MM : SS')||':000') AS ASOFDATE
FROM TBLA
this gives me an output of 20070511 23:06:30:000
the space in MM : SS is intentional here, since without that space it appread as smiley
I'm trying to map this to datetime field in sql server 2005. It keeps failing with this error
The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data
I'm struck with error for hours now. Any pointers would be helpful.
Thanks

I've got a column that holds a time value in Integer form as a number from midnight (IE military time) with no leading 0s or colons.
0 = 00:00
30 = 00:30
...
1700 = 1700 etc...
How can I convert this to a real time field?

Hi,
I am querying DB2 from SSRS. I get an interger back that represents a time like this: HHMMSS
(The data type in DB2 is an integer.) I would like to make this representation of the time display a little more friendly. Does anyone have a good idea on how I can change the query or SSRS format to display semi-colons to break up the hours, minutes and seconds? Also, the other issue is that since I don't get leading zeros back....they probably need to be added to this value if the value is not a full 6 characters.

I'm looking for a way of taking a query which returns a set of date time fields (probable maximum of 20 rows) and looping through each value to see if it exists in a separate table.
E.g.
Query 1
Select ID, Person, ProposedEvent, DayField, TimeField
from MyOptions
where person = 'me'
Table
Select Person, ExistingEvent, DayField, TimeField
from MyTimetable
where person ='me'
Loop through Query 1 and if it finds ANY matching Dayfield AND Timefield in Query/Table 2, return the ProposedEvent (just as a message, the loop could stop there), if no match a message saying all is fine can proceed to process form blah blah.
I'm essentially wanting somebody to select a bunch of events in a form, query 1 then finds all the days and times those events happen and check that none of them exist in the MyTimetable table.

I'm trying to get the UTC date from an integer. See my SQL below:
Declare @unix_date bigint
Set @unix_date = 3499288964
SELECT dateadd(day, @unix_date/(86400), dateadd(second, @unix_date
% (86400), '19700101'))
It returns '2080-11-20 00:42:44.000'. This is dead on except for the year (which should be 2014). I was thinking maybe my bigint value of 3499288964 was milliseconds or microseconds so I adjusted the seconds value (86400) in the select statement to reflect milliseconds (86400000) with no success and microseconds (86400000000) with no success as both of those gave incorrect results. Closest I got was with the seconds (86400) which of course returns the incorrect year.

CONVERT(VARCHAR(4), DATEPART(MM,GETDATE())) +
CONVERT(VARCHAR(4), DATEPART(DD,GETDATE())) ))
& for MMDDYY
SET @DATEUS = CONVERT(INT,(CONVERT(VARCHAR(3),DATEPART(MM,GETDATE()))+
CONVERT(VARCHAR(3),DATEPART(DD,GETDATE())) +

In VBA, CLng(Now) will return the integer portion of a date CLng(Now) returns 41928, CDate(41928) then returns 10/16/2014. Is there something equivalent in SQL Server that will allow me to convert an integer value to a date?
In short, how can I convert a 100 year date to Gregorian (any format)?

Hi there.
I'm trying to extract data from my SQL server & everything in the script I've got is working (extracting correct data) except for one field - which is for the most part it's off by +2 days (on a few occasions - I see it off by just +1 day or even +3, but it's usually the +2 days).
I'm told that it's due to the conversion formula - but - since SQL is not my native language, I'm at a bit of a loss.
The DB table has the date field stored as a type: CHAR (as opposed to 'DATE')
Can anyone out there help?
Please advise. Thanks.
Best.

Dear Expert!
A server with SQL 2005 sp2, Reporting Services and Sharepoint services (ver 3.0) (in integrated mode) gives an odd error. When viewing a Reporting Services report with a Date Time Picker, the date chosen is wrong. The preferred setting is Danish with the date format dd-mm-yyyy. The date picker shows the months in Danish but when selecting a date, and clicking on the Apply-button, the date reformats to US (mm-dd-yyyy).
Example:
When choosing 5th of September 2007 and clicking apply, it shows in the picker, 9th of May 2007.
When choosing 26th of September 2007 and clicking apply, it shows, again in US format, the RIGHT date but adds a timestamp 12:00 AM? in the end, making further enquiries to fail.
The report itself receives the right date and shows correctly. The only case it fails is, when the time stamp appears.
The server is a 32-bit one with 4 GB RAM. A testserver with identical collation on the Reportserver database cannot recreate the error. The site containing the reports has been set to Danish in the regional settings. To Reinstall is not an option.
The test report has no database connection whatsoever.
When setting the site to US, the timestamp wont appear at all.
The server has been restarted and the installation procedure was of the simple kind. No special tweaks at all.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Johan Rastenberger

Hello,
we need to track date/time of last update for each record in a table.
As we understand it, we can't use field type Timestamp as this type does
not use dates/times.
Is there any SQL function available which we can bind to a column or
do we really have to use triggers?

Hi
i have the following situation. in my database i have a datetime field (dd/mm/yy hh:mms) and i also have a field timezone.
the timezone field has values in minutes that i should add to my datetime field so i have the actual time.
afterwards i split the datetime into date and time.
the last part i can accomplish (CONVERT (varchar, datetime, 103) as DATEVALUE and CONVERT (varchar, DATETIME, 108) as TIMEVALUE).
could anybody tell me how i can add the timezone value (in minutes) to my datetime value ?
i do all the calculations in my datasource (sql).
Thanks
