Adding Rules, roles And Administrators To My Website
Apr 11, 2007
Hi ,
I am trying to add users, rules, roles and administrators to my website, of course on my local server everything was ok, but now I can't login with my users on the server.
Basicly I created users and rules on my comp, and copied the App_data DB file to the rootapp_data that is on the server(Using godaddy).
I understand that if the data is on the server it is no longer uses the DB in the rootapp_data , but only the asp tables which are on MSSQL database.
I need help in copying the data from the data base in the App_data folder to the hosting database. I couldn't find the answers in the godaddy website help nor how to use their stored procedures to insert all the above.
(if I need to use the stored procedures please explain how)
I need to find out how to add roles to my SQL that is on a hosted server.I have created 2 roles, but after publishing and uploading my site, when I try and create a user, I get the error:"Exception Details: System.Configuration.Provider.ProviderException: The role 'userAtype' was not found."There are two other roles that the same happens with.Running it locally all was fine, I just didn't seem to get this info where it needs to be when I uploaded it.I'm new to messing about with SQL, so sorry if this is really elementary.I have VS2005 Standard, and the SQL Server Management Studio Express. The hosting provider I have does not allow remote connections to the DB on shared hosting, so I need to (?) generate a script to populate the DB? and run it in their browser-based Querry Window? How would I do this? Thanks.
Hi there NT Server, sqlserver 7.0, Integrated Security. I used "sp_attach_db" to attach a database to the sql server. The database has 3 standard roles with members in each of those roles. But i am not able to add a user to any of the roles through Enterprise Manager(No users are listed, except the other 2 roles). Also when i click "users" under the Database in EM, no users are listed except "dbo" with sa login. Luckily since some members are there in the roles, they are able to connect to the database. Also i am not able to add the user bcos the user exists in the public role and i get an error message "user already exists in DB". The user has logged into the NT and everything is fine. I copied the .mdf and .ldf files from a "Standard Security" Server.
Hi all,I am creating a ASP.Net 2.0 website and in it I had to create a CLR stored procedure to do a complex sql procedure. Coming to the problem I created the CLR stored procedure as a different database project . I wanted to know whether its possible to add the CLR managed code into my exisiting ASP.Net project in which case I should get the dll for this stored procedure in order to deploy the stored proc in the SQL Server.Or is there some simplified approach to using clr stored procedures in an ASP.Net project.
Hi!!! I have a database called "test_DB" i have one table and some data on it. I uploaded the website and created an SQL Server account to upload the database. Can you please help me to do that task. Is there any step by step directions to do it and what files i need to add ( like ".mdf" or others...) I appreciate your help!!! Thanks...
Technically they should be able to view and modify jobs through Management Studio when being added only to SQLAgentOperatorRole. However they receive the following error when clicking on the Jobs folder regardless of the msdb role.
Our original two SQL 2005 servers do not produce this message, but all other instances do. All servers, but one, are SP2 so the service pack is not an issue. Any thoughts?
In trying to upgrade my sql express install from express to developer edition, I ended up having to delete all things express from my computer and do a clean install of developer edition (as i installed developer edition initially over sql express but this didnt seem to work; express edition still appeared in add remove programs etc). Anyway so i blew away the install and have a clean install of developer edition. Now when I create a new website in Visual Studio 2005 and try to add a database to the project, it gives me an error stating that i need to have sql server express 2005 installed to function properly... Do i need to have express AND developer edition of sql installed to do this? I would think developer edition of sql would enable me this functionality...http://img277.imageshack.us/img277/4228/sqlerrorie2.jpgThanks!It is also worth noting that I get the dreaded remote connection error when trying to connect to a db that I used to be able to connect to when I was using sql express (the aspnetdb database that is created when you user their membership stuff)"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) "However, I did the following successfully:1. create a database using the sql management studio2. added a table and some data to it3. threw a dataset into the website4. added a gridview to a page in the website, pulling data from the dataset5. and the website runs successfully populating the page with data...fyi: My sql services: http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/2020/sqlserviceshj6.jpg
I am new user of SQL Server. I have some problems with these words. I want to make my database works in my specified permissions. I will specify permissions with schemas and these schema wants an owner. I want this owner should be my user. When creating a user it needs a valid login. I am selecting my login and it occurs and error says this login has an different user. I am specifying permissions with roles. But i can't make association all of them. I hope i told my problem to you as well. If you explain these words to me and tell me how can i do my database's works with my own schemas, users and roles i'll be grateful. Thanks for advices.
Apologies if my post does not fit into this forum. I initially tried the SQL Server Data Access forum but I now think my question is more security related.
Is it possible for a web user who has been successfully authenticated with forms authentication to be authorised to use a SQL Server 2000 role depending on a particular ASP.NET 2.0 role that they have been authorised to use? I understand that that I can assign a SQL Server 2000 role to the ASPNET or NETWORK SERVICE account but this will grant access to anonymous web users to the database role. I can ensure that I only call stored procedures which access sensitive data in web pages that are in restricted by ASP.NET roles. However, it would be nice to also restrict stored procedures via the ASP.NET 2.0 Forms Authentication roles.
If this is not possible have you got any bright ideas how I could restrict access to stored procedures who are anonymous web users.
I'm developing an ASP.NET2.0 application which accesses a SQL Server 2005 Express database. I plan to use integrated security for access to the database.
I'm confused about the relationships between Windows groups, the ASP.NET web.config file <allow roles=.../> and SQL Server roles.
I would like to create a Windows group to which I can assign multiple users and grant that group access to a Web Site using windows authentication and also grant that windows group access to the database my web application uses.
I have gotten the combination of Windows Authentication to the web site and to the database to work for a specific windows user but I am having trouble determining the combination of database security entities I must create to allow access to my database by members of the windows group.
For a Windows user:
1. Create Windows user
In SQL Express
2. CREATE LOGIN FROM WINDOWS WITH DEFAULT_DATABASE =
3. CREATE USER FOR LOGIN
4. CREATE ROLE
5. EXEC sp_addrolemember <role-name> <user-name>
For a Windows group, what would be the equivalent commands necessary to grant a windows group access to my database? Specifying the Windows Group name in sp_addrolemember does not appear to be sufficient even though the documentation states that a windows group name is a valid value for the member name argument.
After reading Books Online, I am still confused with Database Role vs Application role.
My intention is to control the end users' authority on the database, where the end users will access through Winforms client application. With proper assignment of schema and database roles to an user, I believe this will enough to control the permisison of an user.
If this is the case, why Application role exists? When and why should I use Application Role? How is it different from Fixed Database Role?
I would like to remove the BUILTIN/Administrators group from SQL Server in order to prevent NT Administrators from having SQL sysadmin authority. Does anyone see any harm in doing this eg. could it affect future SQL Server upgrades if this group no longer exists?
I see Microsoft Press has published a Pocket Ref. for administrators of 2005. Does anyone know how long it usually takes, after a new release, before the full blown Administrator's Companion book is published? I've checked Microsoft's website for a future publication of this product and it doesn't appear on radar yet...
I'm trying to conncet to Report Server with Non-Administrator user through WMI in compliance with this document: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365170.aspx
When I try to get Instances from MSReportServer_Instance class I get an exception:
In my C# project i have an exception:
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8000000A) at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo) at System.Management.ManagementObjectCollection.ManagementObjectEnumerator.MoveNext()
But, when I give the account Domain Administrators rights all works ok.
What additional rights must I give to the account?
On Analysis Services 2005 the members of the Administrators local group are also members of the fixed server role, therefore they have full control over Analysis Services databases.
I think this can be a problem becouse many system administrators don't need full control over AS. Does someone kwon how can I remove those high privileges to the local administrator?
Hi! Can anyone say which ms sql server predefined roles are similar to the following oracle predefined roles: dba, connect, resource. I already know that sysadmin in MS SQL Server is the same as DBA in Oracle but what about the rest? Thanks a lot.
I am in the process of locking down the SQL Server in an environment that is considered to be in production (pilot stages) and there is no staging or test environment that mirrors it. I need assistance in determining the server and database roles to assign to existing logins, most of which currently have sa and dbowner rights. Because it is not a development environment, I need to be sure that downgrading the server and/or database level permissions will not break any functionality.
I'm starting with the logins that have the SA fixed server role. These logins need to be able to install applications that require the use of a backend database, which will be stored on SQL Server. In addition, through the installation process a new login/password for the newly created database(s) is normally created. For the existing logins with the SA fixed server role, will downgrading to the securityadmin and dbcreator roles be sufficient to facilitate those needs, or are those too much/ too little? And should any user account ever be granted the SA role? If so, what questions could I ask to determine this need?
Since these install process for these applications usually prompt to install using SA or local system account to authenticate to SQL to create the new database(s), that account should have securityadmin and dbcreator roles to create the database and its tables, as well as add a new login to that database.
Please address this question, keeping in mind that the logins will only be performing the described actions, installing apps using SQL Server as the backend database and adding a login to that database (which may or may not be done during the installation process).
We have a development server and someone went ahead and deleted the BuiltinAdministrators account in SSRS 2008 R2. I would like to know if, as a local admin of the server, I can recover content manager access to the SSRS instance.
I'm looking for some guidance/help regarding setting up a sa - lite account in SQL 2005. I need to give another admin rights to create/monitor maintenance plans, backup and restore databases, monitor performance/logins, but NOT be able to have any rights on several tables (and of course not being able to set user permissions).
I've tried using server and db roles but haven't been able to determine how to give someone w/o full sa rights access to maintenance plans.
If you can think of soemthing, please let m eknow.
I have MS SQL Server 2000 DB. I have created a User and created some tables for the same. I created a Role named A and granted Select Permissions for few tables to that roles.
When I created another Role named B and added this role (A) to B, the permissions are not being xferred to B. Bcos of which, if i assign an User to Role B, he is not able to select the tables for which permissions have been given thru role A.
Note : If i give assign directly the user to Role A, it is working. But i want to assign User to role A only thru B.
I need to prevent domain and local administrators from having full control over our report manager. (I want them to be assigned permissions just like everyone else, some reports they can see other reports they can not.)
How can I accomplish this? I tried going into Report Manager -> Site Settings -> Configure Site Wide Security and re-assigning BUILTINAdministrators to the System User role instead of the System Administrator role. (A different set of report manager admins was given the system administrator role).
However, it appears that members of the BUILTINAdministrators group still have full control in Report Manager.
Please forgive my ignorance, however I am 2 months new to SQL-Server 2000.
Is there a way to create a rule specific to a user such that he can only SELECT from a table where a field equals a specific value.
In other words user Joe types in: SELECT * FROM SALES_BY_LOCATION. Because Joe's territory is Los Angeles, I want a rule that only retrieves sales data from Los Angeles.
In My table i'm collecting information about our customers. In that i have fields zip and phone. So i wanted to implemement a rule that zip should be atlaest of of 5 characters and phone should be 13 characters Including '-'s(333-333-3333).How can i implement these two rules on my table.
Not long ago I accountered this situation: I had two databases on "MS SQL Server". In one of the databases there was a nomenclature with very large primary key. I had to transport that nomenclature and transform the wide PK into single identity column into the other database.
I decided to use a function for that transformation. BUT that function had to mark somewhere which combination of the PK columns is relative to which identity value. BUT functions CAN'T WRITE under MSSQL. So I took the challenge and mine all sources of information. The result was a function "Exec4Fun" that breaks the rule. I suppose that with this function it's possible to avoid the restriction for triggers, which prevents writing in the triggering table? (not tested yet)
If someone needs such tools, just write back your e-mail and I'll send some code.
When i use the MS association rules ,i don't know how it is worked on the background .I stuy the Fp-Growth algorithm , but there're some questions , I don't kown what's the meaning of transcation database. who can give me one example ? thanks .I know we can store the data in relation database, but in basket Analysis ,how a transaction stroed in relation database?
In my package i have column called "optinout" coming from source file which has the value "start" and "stop", now in my destination table i have a column called "contact permission code" to which i need to apply a business rule based on the value in column "optinout" the rule is as stated "Contact Permission Code" is OptOut if "OptInOut" value is "STOP" else OptIn.
Hi there, it has been a long i'm trying to execute Microsoft Association Rules on my database.
I solved memory leak problem now, but i still can't understand output rules.
Database contain all the italian student who took a degree last year. Here in Italy, they have to compile a summary where they speak about universitary experience. ie: they talk about experience with teachers (pointage from 1 to 5); they says if they want to continue in the universitary field or not, and so on.
Most of the rules, says: Int_Stud=1-2, RapDoc>4
Int_Stud is the column where i store student intention to continue university. 1 means they want to go on, 2 means they do not want to continue to study. So, this rules has no sense, because it relates all the student (in my mind): the one who wants to continue university and the one who do not want to.
I think problem is that visual studio 2005 and analysis service has no understanding of Int_Stud world, they've no idea that Int_Stud can have just 2 values and that they're opposite each other. Is there a solution to this problem? Can i discretize this column?
Even if I know not to have perfect english, I hope to be understandable
I used the MS clustering method to run on my sample data, and I would like to apply the rules built to score/predict on another data set. But I am not able to find out where the rules are. I am wondering whether there are sql codes available that can be directly applied on the new data set. cheers
