Adding The Parameters Dynamicaly To SP

Oct 27, 2007

In our website we have created the reportengine which passes the parameters dynamicaly means whatever parameters are provided in Stored procedure is automaticaly binded to grid from where values are passed to sp as follows
.Actualy this code is written by some other developer
If Not ParameterTable Is Nothing Then
   RecordCount = ParameterTable.Rows.Count
         If RecordCount >= 1 Then
        For Index = 0 to (RecordCount - 1)
       ParameterRow = ParameterTable.Rows(Index)
    Select Case ParameterRow(1)
             Case "231"
              RecordType = "SQlDbType.NVarChar"
       Case "60"
        RecordType = "SQlDbType.Money"
             Case "61"
              RecordType = "SQlDbType.DateTime"
       Case "62"
        RecordType = "SQlDbType.Int"
             Case "59"
              RecordType = "SQlDbType.Float"
       Case "104"
        RecordType = "SQlDbType.Bit"
     Case Else
                 RecordType = "SQlDbType.Int"

          End Select
       myCommand.Parameters.Add(ParameterRow(0), RecordType).Value = (ParameterRow(2))

[red]When Sp is executed with link[/red]<A href="Main.aspx?ReportID=1075443551&amp;ReportName=RptAPandARComparative&amp;ReportDescription=RptAPandARComparative"
            target="main">

I get the error that nvarchar can not be converted int

Why is is So?

Mar 5, 2008

Hi All,
I have an sql command which has subqueries in it. I need to pass in variables like startdate and enddate to the sub query query and then execute the query. What is the best way to do this?
I am trying to use ole db source but this has a limitation of not allowing parameters at the sub query level. What else can I use? I am working with sql server 2005.
Thanks a lot.

Adding Two Parameters With One Depending On The Value Of The Other

Feb 25, 2008

hello

sorry to distub you again

in fact i'm a beginner and i don't really see how i can do some tasks

when i display a report i want the reader to choose a client, and when he chooses a client, he can choose in the second parameter list, the missions that correspond to THIS client

so i have 3 datasets

one in which i get all my data needed
and i have a filter in where part of query

Code Snippet
where client=@client
and mission=@mission

and i filter on these 2 values

in the second dataset , i gather all the clients i have by doing this query

Code Snippet
select distinct name from client

and i have this third dataset where i gather all the missions corresponding to one client

and here i write

Code Snippet
select mission_label from client
where name=@client

the two fields are in the same time and in this third dataset i apply a filter on Parameters!client.value

but when i execute the report, the second parameter doesn't work, it gives me no choice of mission for a client, it doesn't return anything while when i execute the query in the dataset i have these values

how can i do this please?

thanks a lot in advance

and sorry or bothering with such questions

Dynamically Adding New Parameters To SQLDataSource

Dec 28, 2007

CancelSelectOnNullParameterHi,Suppose I have a SQLDataSource with a
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM STOCKS WHERE USER=@USER ORDER BY STOCK_NAME"
and @USER is set as a session parameter. No problem till this part, but in some postbacks, I wish to add a new WHERE criteria to my SQL, so I do:DSSQL.SelectParameters.Add("@STOCK_NAME", "ABC123");
DSSQL.SelectCommand = DSgvStoklar.SelectCommand.Replace(" ORDER BY ", " AND STOCK_NAME LIKE @STOCK_NAME+'%' ORDER BY ");
gridViewDS.DataBind();
and wish that my SelectCommand is modified and a new parameter is added.
The SQL is modified, however -I guess- new parameter is not added, so I get "Must declare the scalar variable "@STOCK_NAME" error.
How can I solve, any ideas?

Adding Parameters During .updating Event Handler

May 29, 2007

Not receiving any errors.  The update runs perfectly on all fields, except for the added parameter during the sub.  I need to change the hidden field's value after parsing out several fields in the form and generating a logfile entry of sorts.  This needs to happen after all the form fields are updated, but before the update is executed.
aspx:   (relevant parts only...)<asp:SqlDataSource ID="TicketDetails" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:myConnectionString %>"UpdateCommand="UPDATE Tickets SET TicketSuspense = @TicketSuspense, TicketPriority = @TicketPriority, TicketLastUpdated = CURRENT_TIMESTAMP, TicketStatus = 'Assigned', TicketTechnicianNotes = @TicketTechnicianNotes WHERE (TicketID = @TicketID)"><UpdateParameters><asp:Parameter Name="TicketPriority" Type="String" /><asp:Parameter Name="TicketSuspense" Type="DateTime" /><asp:Parameter Name="TicketID" Type="Int32" /></UpdateParameters></asp:SqlDataSource>
codebehind:   (once again, the relevant parts only)Protected Sub TicketDetails_Updating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSourceCommandEventArgs) Handles TicketDetails.UpdatingTicketTechnicianNotesHiddenField.Value = "some text..." & TicketTechnicianNotesHiddenField.ValueTicketDetails.UpdateParameters.Add(New Parameter("TicketTechnicianNotes", TypeCode.String, TicketTechnicianNotesHiddenField.Value))End Sub

Reporting Services :: Adding Drill Through Parameters Increasing Rendering Time On Report Server

Nov 2, 2015

I have a report which takes around 5 seconds when run in BIDS but takes around 20 seconds when deployed on report server.Execution log says TimeDataRetrieval is around 3-4 seconds and  rendering time is around 15-17 secs.From this report I am passing 8 parameters to a  drill through report and there are 36 text boxes where I have defined these parameters for drill through action.All these parameters are populated in main dataset.When I deployed the same report without any drill through action and parameter, it takes 5 seconds.So I am suspecting that because of drill through parameters report is taking more rendering time on server.I am using 2008R2 and IE11.

Is it expected behavior that due to so many parameters for drill through action, report will take more rendering time?If yes, then why is it not taking same time in BIDS?

ADO.NET 2-VB 2005 Express Form1:Printing Output Of Returned Data/Parameters From The Parameters Collection Of A Stored Procedure

Mar 12, 2008

Hi all,
From the "How to Call a Parameterized Stored Procedure by Using ADO.NET and Visual Basic.NET" in http://support.microsft.com/kb/308049, I copied the following code to a project "pubsTestProc1.vb" of my VB 2005 Express Windows Application:

Imports System.Data

Imports System.Data.SqlClient

Imports System.Data.SqlDbType

Public Class Form1

Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

Dim PubsConn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;integrated security=sspi;" & "initial Catalog=pubs;")

Dim testCMD As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("TestProcedure", PubsConn)

testCMD.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

Dim RetValue As SqlParameter = testCMD.Parameters.Add("RetValue", SqlDbType.Int)

RetValue.Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue

Dim auIDIN As SqlParameter = testCMD.Parameters.Add("@au_idIN", SqlDbType.VarChar, 11)

auIDIN.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input

Dim NumTitles As SqlParameter = testCMD.Parameters.Add("@numtitlesout", SqlDbType.Int)

NumTitles.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output

auIDIN.Value = "213-46-8915"

PubsConn.Open()

Dim myReader As SqlDataReader = testCMD.ExecuteReader()

Console.WriteLine("Book Titles for this Author:")

Do While myReader.Read

Console.WriteLine("{0}", myReader.GetString(2))

Loop

myReader.Close()

Console.WriteLine("Return Value: " & (RetValue.Value))

Console.WriteLine("Number of Records: " & (NumTitles.Value))

End Sub

End Class

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
The original article uses the code statements in pink for the Console Applcation of VB.NET. I do not know how to print out the output of ("Book Titles for this Author:"), ("{0}", myReader.GetString(2)), ("Return Value: " & (RetValue.Value)) and ("Number of Records: " & (NumTitles.Value)) in the Windows Application Form1 of my VB 2005 Express. Please help and advise.

Thanks in advance,

Query Duration Using Parameters Vrs No Parameters

Apr 27, 2006

Hi,
I have an app in C# that executes a query using SQLCommand and parameters and is taking too much time to execute.

I open a SQLProfiler and this is what I have :

exec sp_executesql N' SELECT TranDateTime ... WHERE CustomerId = @CustomerId',
N'@CustomerId nvarchar(4000)', @CustomerId = N'11111

I ran the same query directly from Query Analyzer and take the same amount of time to execute (about 8 seconds)

I decided to take the parameters out and concatenate the value and it takes less than 2 second to execute.

Here it comes the first question...
Why does using parameters takes way too much time more than not using parameters?

Then, I decided to move the query to a Stored Procedure and it executes in a snap too.
The only problem I have using a SP is that the query can receive more than 1 parameter and up to 5 parameters, which is easy to build in the application but not in the SP

I usually do it something like
(@CustomerId is null or CustomerId = @CustomerId) but it generate a table scan and with a table with a few mills of records is not a good idea to have such scan.

Is there a way to handle "dynamic parameters" in a efficient way???

Parameters Dependencies When Using Parameters!Name.Label

Mar 7, 2007

Hello:

I just recently bumped into this problem and I think I know what's causing it. This is the setup:

Report Parameters: FromDate, ToDate, DivisionalOffice, Manager, SalesRep

dsCalendarEvents Parameters: FromDate.Value, ToDate.Value, DivisionalOffice.Value,

dsDivisions Parameters: N/A

dsManager Parameters: DivisionalOffice.Value

dsSalesRep: DivisionalOffice.Label

When I query the ReportServices WS and scan the parameter dependencies for SalesRep it says there are four dependencies: FromDate, ToDate, DivisionalOffice and Manager!!!

If I change "dsSalesRep" to use "DivisionalOffice.Value" the ReportingServices WS parameter dependency scan returns only one dependency for "SalesRep" parameter!!!( This is the correct behavior )

Has anybody seen this behavior and more importantly, is there a work around?

Regards,

Parameters.AddWithValue Vs. Parameters.Add

Jan 2, 2008

Hello all,
Given:
string commandText = "Categories_Delete";SqlCommand myCommand = new SqlCommand(commandText, connection);myCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
   Is there a reason NOT to use myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@CategoryID",CategoryID); I'd prefer to use that over  myCommand.Parameters.Add("@CategoryID", SqlDbType.Int, 4).Value = CategoryID; as I have these functions being created dynamically and hope to get away from a big lookup to try to convert System.Types into SqlDbTypes. [shudder]
It seems that ADO.NET makes an implicit conversion to the valid type.  If this is correct then I can move on fat dumb and happy.  Anyone have any good insight?
Thanks,

Adding Sql Parameter In VB

Oct 16, 2006

I have a details view with several parameters set up in my asp.net 2.0 code, I want to add a parameter before the sql parameter is executed. I need to use the find control of the details view because I am using items/edit item templates in my details view control. I tried this(see below) as well as the detailsview item command event args to no avail. It doesn't see the other parameters that have already been declared in my asp.net code. I don't want to have to declare all my varibles that are already in my asp.net code. I just want to add another parameter.  Sub InsertNew(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As DetailsViewInsertEventArgs) _    Handles dvEvents.ItemInserting        Dim dvr As DetailsViewRow        For Each dvr In dvEvents.Rows  Dim CatIDup As Integer = CType(dvr.FindControl("ddlCat"), DropDownList).SelectedValue            sdsevents.InsertParameters.Add("evCatID", CatIDup)sdsevents.Insert()

Adding To 2 Different Tables

Apr 19, 2007

Hi Everyone,
I have a page with a textbox and a dropdown list. The user will enter a company name in the text box and select a number from 1 - 20 (number of delegates for that company) in the dropdown list.
I've got the text box and dropdown writing to tblCompany but I would also like it to write to tblUsers at the same time. The reason for this is that i need it to set up the number of users that have been selected in the dropdown list.
Here is the codebehind file:Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Web.Configuration

Inherits System.Web.UI.Page

Dim companyActive As Boolean
Dim companyArchived As Boolean

cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@CompanyActive", companyActive)
cmd.Parameters.Item("@CompanyActive").Value = True

cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@CompanyArchived", companyArchived)
cmd.Parameters.Item("@CompanyArchived").Value = False

Using con
con.Open()
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
con.Close()
End Using

Dim con2 As New SqlConnection(conString)
Dim cmd2 As New SqlCommand("INSERT INTO tblUsers (UserForeName, UserSurname, UserEmail, UserUsername, UserPassword, UserActive, UserTypeID, CompanyID) VALUES (@UserForeName, @UserSurname, @UserEmail, @UserUsername, @UserPassword, @UserActive, @UserTypeID, @CompanyID)", con2)

cmd2.Parameters.Item("@UserForeName").Value = "First Name - Delegate 1"

cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@UserSurname", userSurname)

cmd2.Parameters.Item("@UserTypeID").Value = 1

Using con2
con2.Open()
For i = 1 To NoLoops
cmd2.ExecuteNonQuery()
Next i
con2.Close()
End Using

Response.Redirect("~/cms/Management/Company/Company.aspx")
End Sub

End ClassThe other thing I am not sure of is getting the ID of the new company and assiging it to the delegates in tblUsers (to associate them with the new company)I hope this makes sense.Thank you very much guys.Scott.

whenever I run this, I receive the following error and am not sure how to correct it:

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Must declare the scalar variable "@Item".

If someone could please explain to me the process here of what is going ion it would be greatly appreciated.  My understanding is the @item is just a variable if you will so i'm not sure why its stating i need to declare it.

Thank you all!

Adding An Int To A SQL Database Using C#

Feb 17, 2008

Hi Guys,
I know this is a little off the subject of ASP.net but I am using some code behind in C#.  I am a real novice at this and so it may appear to be a simple question but Im trying to add a number to the database from a textbox but it is having issues as the Storenum is an int and it wants a string.  Can anyone help?  I know I need to write .tostring somewhere but can't work out where.  My code is below.
Thanks in advance. =)
public partial class _addstore : System.Web.UI.Page
{protected string Location;
protected string Telephone;protected string Prefix;
protected int StoreNum;protected string myConnectionString;protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Location = "default";Telephone = "default";
Prefix = "default";StoreNum = "0";myConnectionString = "Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:\inetpub\wwwroot\HOF\App_Data\HOF.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True;";

}protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{int sa;
SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection(myConnectionString);
try
{
Location = TextBox2.Text;
Telephone = TextBox3.Text;
Prefix = TextBox4.Text;
StoreNum = TextBox5.Text;SqlCommand myCommand = new SqlCommand("INSERT INTO StoreInfo (StoreID, Location, Telephone, Prefix) Values (" + StoreNum + ", '" + Location + "', '" + Telephone + "', '" + Prefix + "')", myConnection);SqlDataAdapter myDataAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(myCommand);
myConnection.Open();
sa = myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();
myConnection.Close();
}catch (Exception ex)
{
TextBox2.Text = ex.Message;
myConnection.Close();
}
}
}

Adding New Column

May 5, 2008

Hi,I have an application up and running. I need to add a new column to one of the tables which is currently being used - would adding a new column change or cause errors in the current application? e.g. if the table is being accessed by selecting * from table, will adding a new column cause an error? If there is any circumstance where an error would be caused by adding a new column, I will have to create an entirely new table. If I have to do this - how do I get a column in the new table to have the same values as a column in the old table? Can I create a computed column where column=oldcolumn? Thanks,Jon

Adding Or Subtracting

Jul 28, 2004

I'm in trouble. I have a table with some fields, one of them is an amount of money.
One field indicates whether the amount is negetive or positive. This fields has only two possible values, 'N' and 'R'. 'N' means the amount is negative and 'R' means the amount is positive.

The problem I have is that I have to sum these amounts to give a total for each customer and report them as

customer1 total amount1
customer2 total amount2

I don't know how to make a query to bring these results. I know that sum would bring me the total amount for each customer but I don't know how to specify which fields are supposed to be negative so that it subtracts them instead of adding them.

By the way I'm not allowed to change the structure of the table.

Could you help me try to create this query?
