Adjusting The Priority Of The Replication Process (SQL 2000)
Oct 5, 2006
Hi,
I need information on adjusting the priority of the replication thread(s) within SQL Server 2000. All I've been able to find is how-to's on adjusting the priority of the SQL Server process itself, as well as information on how to adjust the relative priority of changes made to the database by subscribers.
Here's the situation, from time to time our replication system goes down, it starts itself up after waiting 5 minutes but this causes a problem. When its starting up it seems to be taking up far too many CPU cycles. As such the server is unable to process SQL queries, which forces its subscribers to time out. This is a bad thing as the subscribers are control systems on an assembly line. What I want to do is lower the priority of replication so that the server can still process queries while the replication agent is restarting itself. Is this possible? If so how can it be done?
A similar question has been asked in a different thread, but didn't get a conclusive answer. Is there a way to set process priority on a specific process (alternatively - processes started by a specific user), similar to what the Task Manager allows in Windows?
I need to archive some data from an OLTP database. Unfortunately, some of the tables are growing rather large, and copying the data, and especially removing it based on record age, is a resource-intensive operation. My database must be available 24/7, and I can't have queries timing out, or I start losing business real fast. I was thinking of firing off the archive script and setting the process priority on it to something lower than normal, so it won't interfere with my OLTP processes.
Hi, I am trying to replicate a production database server,on sql server 2000 at a particular geographic location to a new failover database server on sql server 2000 in a different geographic location via internet. The intention here is to use the failover database during times when the production server is down or busy and the synchronization needs to be sceduled for every 10 min. It will be of huge help if any expert could give the detailed process involved and any precautions that need to be taken. I also need to keep inmind to use the ever/odd sequence number generator during the replication implementation. Also, Whether to use row-level or column-level tracking?
Can you point me in the correct direction in SQL2005 Server to adjust the SQL Server database collation case-insensitive, accent-sensitive, Kana-sensitive, and width-sensitive. We are trying to configure it to run with SharePoint Services.
Thanks in advance for any assistance that you might be able to provide.
hi, I have not done any replication process before . but I am trying to learn it . so I have the sql server reside in a window NT4.0 (first NT server )and I am using window workstation which has a client utility to manage the database. What I am thinking to do is to have a nother pc that has a window NT4.0 (second NT server) and sql server 6.5 installed. so what is my question.
Can I control the replication process from the workstation by using the utility tools to replicate the database from the first NT server ( source database ) into the second NT server
Hi there, May be a kind of dumb question, but I have a multi-value parameter that I would like to give users the ability to select from in a SSRS 2005 Report and I was wondering if there was a way to adjust the width of the drop down so the user wouldn't have to scroll horizontally to see a full parameter item. It looks like it cuts off after about 30 characters.
We are having a table report which has set of columns where the visibility is made false based on report parameters. It works fine and the table automatically shrinks. But, the page width remains as early and has lot of blank space in it. It also causes printer to print many blank pages.
Is there a way to control pagewidth dynamically? Thought of adding a custom assembly to control page width - but how to access the page that is getting displayed. "this" will refer to the the assembly class instead of report as such.

i had configured a merge replication betwen 2 server and i was running fine. but due to network problems my network admin has changed the ip address and name of the publisher, distributor and subscriber.
i just want to delete all the publication and subscription.. but i cannt' do this.. i m getting some sql server error.. is there any command that i can execute to reset the replication process that will delete all the publication and subcription. and then i create a new publication and subscription
Hi, I have this simple SQL query which SELECTs the fields according to the criteria in WHERE clause. SELECT callingPartyNumber, originalCalledPartyNumber, finalCalledPartyNumber, dateadd(ss, (dateTimeConnect + (60 * 60 * -5))+3600 , '01-01-1970 00:00:00') AS dateTimeConnect, dateadd(ss, (dateTimeDisconnect + (60 * 60 * -5))+3600, '01-01-1970 00:00:00') AS dateTimeDisconnect, CONVERT(char(8), DATEADD(second, duration, '0:00:00'), 108) AS duration FROM Calls WHERE (callingPartyNumber = ISNULL(@callingPartyNumber, callingPartyNumber)) AND (originalCalledPartyNumber = ISNULL(@originalCalledPartyNumber, originalCalledPartyNumber)) AND (finalCalledPartyNumber = ISNULL(@finalCalledPartyNumber, finalCalledPartyNumber)) AND (duration >= @theDuration) AND ((datetimeConnect - 14400) >= ISNULL(convert(bigint, datediff(ss, '01-01-1970 00:00:00', @dateTimeConnect)), datetimeConnect)) AND ((dateTimeDisconnect - 14400) <= ISNULL(convert(bigint, datediff(ss, '01-01-1970 00:00:00', @dateTimeDisconnect)), dateTimeDisconnect)) If you notice, in the SELECT, I add 3600 (1 hour) to adjust the time according to the current DayLight saving setting. Similarly, while comparing in WHERE clause, I subtract 14400 seconds (4 hours) to adjust the comparison according to EST (-5 GMT, but doing -4 GMT since daylight saving) and daylight saving. Also, dateTimeConnect and dataTimeDisconnect fields save time in UTC seconds. Now this application may be used by clients in different timezones. The application may be hosted on their server which would mean a different time zone. What would be the best way to make this time zone and daylight adjustment more dynamic instead of hardcoding the values.
We have a database that doesn't seem to be growing on its own correctly (or seems like it isn't). This database has been running really slow for the last week and we think this may be whu
Current size is listed at 963mb while allocated size is 959mb. Trans log size is set to auto-grow and is allocated 4mb
Can we change that number on the fly, and also change the the growth settings without affecting the system?
Being a live system we obviously do not want any downtime, but believe this will help with our slowdown.
I am trying to eliminate the extra space in columns that have been returned from a DB query...the tables have character lengths of 40, I would like to return just the necessary characters.
I am getting this error on replication and don't know why. Any ideas?
The process could not read file '\NJRARSVR00E9d$sqldatasystemMSSQL$P001ReplD atauncNJRARSVR00E9$P001_PTR_PTR20040707104224s napshot.pre' due to OS error 5.
One of our users tried to set replication solution in a sqlserver (the idea was given up). SQL Server added in each table a column related to replication. We want to remove theses columns and I used the following script :
select 'ALTER TABLE dbo.'+object_name(id)+' DROP CONSTRAINT '+object_name(constid)+' GO' +'ALTER TABLE dbo.'+object_name(id)+' DROP COLUMN '+'msrepl_tran_version GO' from sysconstraints where object_name(constid) like '%msrep%'
Question: 1. I want to know how to introduce a carraige return in order to have some thing like this :
... ALTER TABLE dbo.T_CommandCopyFile DROP CONSTRAINT DF__T_Command__msrep__44AB0736 GO ALTER TABLE dbo.T_CommandCopyFile DROP COLUMN msrepl_tran_version ... 2. Is there any other solution to do this more simply ?
Hi.everyone.I use two computer in workgroup.I use A to be a publisher and distributor ,B to a Subscrible. When i create a snop in A computer and Create snopshot in "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQL epldataunc",when I use "view Synchronization Status" in B computer, the show "job already success start",but in A computer sqlserver error log show "Message Replication-: agent LIUQINASERVER2005-TestTran-Tran-LIUQIANHOMEHOME-6 failed. The publisher snapshot agent is servernameadministrator.
I find a lot of message in internet ,but no one can help me .I try use same account and password in two computer.but no help.
I am getting this error during Merge Replication "Unable to synchronize the row because the row was updated by a different process outside of replication."
I could not reproduce this error in my development enviornment, can anyone tell me what is cause of the above error and how do I reproduce this error in my development machine? I am able to get which is outside process?
The Conflict Type is 10 for above error which is logged into Conflict Table.
Everyday between 18:00 and 20:00 nearly 1000 PDA Subsriber anonymously synchronise via Merge Replication and at least two time he have the error :
IIS Worker Process Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.1830, faulting module sscerp20.dll, version 2.0.7331.0, fault address 0x000110f4.
And subscriber which synchronising meanwhile becomes suspect.
Can someone offer a suggestion as to the cause of and correction for this error?
Thanks,
Hakan G

I'm trying to setup transaction replication between 2 servers. This is a one-way replication: Server A to Server B, not Server B to Server A.
I am able to replicate all the tables except one. I added commands to the agent so that it would create an output file, possibly with more or better information.
Here is a portion of the error causing the failure

Can somebody help me in finding a solution for this error? I don't see any Error Text and there are no resources available for the error code throwing up in the log file.
We're going to use replication on our database. There are tables without any primary key.
Is a primary key necessary for replication?
I have also antoher question: We want to replicate the whole OLTP database (size 30 GB).
Is snapshot replication a suitable mechanisme for this? I thougt snapshot replication overwrites all of the data, not only changed data. Or should we use another replication method?
I have Two databases, that same schemas and same tables. that both servers are different location. but data must be update and input from both sites.that data must be same both.
so i've planed to replication data both servers, then i must chose merge replication right?
so i'm set
server1 (assumed server1 as main) are Distributor/Publisher
and
server2 just Subscriber only
that i can configuration successfully.
then i'm chose push replication from server1 but it's not work.
this is error message that show
The process could not deliver the snapshot to the Subscriber.
please advise me what's wrong and how to fix problem?
I'm running a resource-intensive stored procedure, which reads a filewith about 50,000 lines with a BULK INSERT into a temp table, thengoes through it and inserts a record for each line into another table. While this procedure is running, SQL server stops accepting any otherrequests coming from the website.Question:Is there a way to make SQL server "listen", or emulate an "interrupt"to other requests while in the middle of a long intensive process?I really appreciate your replies.Thank you,Oleg.
Can a SSIS server, i.e. staging server be used to create packages that update SQL Server 2000 Analysis services objects on another server running SQL server 2000 OLAP?
It appears that the OLAP connection manager ion SSIS supports only connections (and thus updates) to 2005 OLAP objects. I work for a company that has a huge investment in a 3rd party DW that uses Analysis Services 2000. the DW tool vendor will not support an upgrade to SSAS 2005. We wish to extend the DW from other data sources. My thought was to use a staging server with SSIS, used solely as the ETL tool for all new development (thus no more DTS development), and to update the sql server 2000 operational data store on another box.
I can find no documentation on how to process sql server 2000 analysis services objects from within an SSIS package. Any ideas?
Hi, consider my table, s.no priority status 1 2 pending 2 3 pending 3 0 completed 4 1 pending 5 0 completed Now, if I insert a record as, 6 1 pending the priority must be reset as follows, s.no priority status 1 3 pending 2 4 pending 3 0 completed 4 2 pending 5 0 completed 6 1 pending Im using c# and sql server. How can i do it? Thanks, Jasmeeta.
Is it possible to change/set the priority of databases? (Win2K, SQL 2K)
We have an evnironment which is somewhat lacking in resource, and would like to place the priority of one of the databases lower than the other so that the processing on the main database is carried out before the secondary one.
If there isn't any way to do this for the database level - is it possible for a specific user?
Hopefully I havnt been too vague here - but if there is any more info I should be passing on let me know.
In my Sequence container task, I have 3 data flow task ( one data flow task is based on the constraint option Expression). 3 are running simultaneously, is there a way to assign a priorty which one should finish first before the other starts.
If I make all of them in one sequence then the conditional task come in between which may stop the execution of the 3rd task depending upon condition.
We are in the process of moving some data from one structure to another. The complete script takes very long time to complete in out production environment.
The script can maybe filtered even more, so it can run in small steps. The only problem here is that we would like it to be transactional.
But i came to wonder - are there any way to tell before starting a t-sql statement that it should run with low priority? This way it could run for 2 days, without having any severe impact on the production environment?
I was trying to extract data from the source server using OLEDB Source and SQL Server Destination when i encountered this error:
"Transaction (Process ID 135) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.".
What must be done so that even if the table being queried is locked, i wouldn't experience any deadlock?
Hello all, I am running into an interesting scenario on my desktop. I'm running developer edition on Windows XP Professional (9.00.3042.00 SP2 Developer Edition). OS is autopatched via corporate policy and I saw some patches go in last week. This machine is also a hand-me-down so I don't have a clean install of the databases on the machine but I am local admin.
So, starting last week after a forced remote reboot (also a policy) I noticed a few of the databases didn't start back up. I chalked it up to the hard shutdown and went along my merry way. Friday however I know I shut my machine down nicely and this morning when I booted up, I was in the same state I was last Wenesday. 7 of the 18 databases on my machine came up with
FCB:pen: Operating system error 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.) occurred while creating or opening file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTest.mdf'. Diagnose and correct the operating system error, and retry the operation. and it also logs FCB:pen failed: Could not open file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTest.mdf for file number 1. OS error: 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.).
I've caught references to the auto close feature being a possible culprit, no dice as the databases in question are set to False. Recovery mode varies on the databases from Simple to Full. If I cycle the SQL Server service, whatever transient issue it was having with those files is gone. As much as I'd love to disable the virus scanner, network security would not be amused. The data and log files appear to have the same permissions as unaffected database files. Nothing's set to read only or archive as I've caught on other forums as possible gremlins. I have sufficient disk space and the databases are set for unrestricted growth.
Any thoughts on what I could look at? If it was everything coming up in RECOVERY_PENDING it's make more sense to me than a hit or miss type of thing I'm experiencing now.
Dear list Im designing a package that uses Microsofts preplog.exe to prepare web log files to be imported into SQL Server
What Im trying to do is convert this cmd that works into an execute process task D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoad>preplog ex.log > out.log the above dos cmd works 100%
However when I use the Execute Process Task I get this error [Execute Process Task] Error: In Executing "D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoadpreplog.exe" "" at "D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoad", The process exit code was "-1" while the expected was "0".
There are two package varaibles User::gsPreplogInput = ex.log User::gsPreplogOutput = out.log
