After Restore The Database Success Stll The Status Loading.
Dec 17, 2001
I Restored the database from Backup with a Different database Name. I got a message the Restore Database was successful. Still the database has Loading Status. Can you let me know what I have to take that status.
I performed a database restore this morning from a backup that I had created yesterday - the database was backed up to a file, not a backup device.
After the restore completed, the database was left in a LOADING status. I checked the log and it stated 'Bypassing recovery for database X because it is marked in load. I used the enterprise tools (all tasks/restore database) to do the restore.
I asked one of our senior dba's for help, and he followed the same process I did and it worked fine for him.
Any idea why my database was left in a loading status? The database was fine prior to the restore.
Is there some example of how i can add a return status into my stored procedure to have an extra field where I can verify if it runs successfully 1 if success -1 if error (server, etc) 0 if empty record return
I have a SSIS pkg that gets data from SQL and do data conversion and Insert into OLE db AS400 destination, There is a flag column in SQL table , that has to be updated to true, once the records are inserted in AS400 how do i do that in SSIS
SQL oledb ---------> dataConversion ---------------> AS400 OLE db Destination | update SQL table Flag column<---------------------------------|
we have a reporting database that needs to be refreshed every week. I normally get a big backup file (50GB) from our business partner very Sunday morning; I have setup a job to restore the database once I got the backup file. The restore job normally will take about 4 or 5 hours to finish, but sometime it may take much longer (more than 10 hours). We knew there is some kind of disk storage contention going on the SAN. When this problem happens the system guy always try to pick my db restore process to be the victim. I hate to kill a job when it has 90% done, but I have no way to tell the restore progress status. Does someone know if I can query database restore progress information from any DMVs?
I recently installed MSDE on a laptop. I then restored several databases from backup files without problem. However, one database is constantly stuck at the grey colour displaying the (Loading) message.
Why won't this database restore ? It is of course the most important database and I only have the one backup file.
This only appears to fail on his server. Do I need to uninstall MSDE and start over ?
I had to restore a database late this afternoon. I have the database set to FULL recovery. Database backups are performed nightly and transaction log backups are performed every other hour. I decided to perform a point-in-time restore. When I restored this way everything seems to go ok and it finishes. Then the database is grayed and says "Loading". Although I tried 4 separate times, one time allowing over an hour, the grayed out database and "Loading" never goes away.
Freaking out I deleted the "Loading" database (didn't delete logs and backup files) and tried a manual restore from the previous night's backup file. It attached and restored properly and was ready to go in 2 minutes.
Of course I wanted to get the transaction log files restored too, since it had work from earlier today. So I tried another restore via point-in-time and got the same old messages. Currently, the database is running with the previous night's backup restored but the users aren't too keen on having to do 5 hours worth of work to catch up to the previous transaction log backup come Monday morning.
I can run this example from SQL Book Online from sql query analyzer. I can build the TestDB database.
BACKUP DATABASE Northwind TO DISK = 'c:Northwind.bak' RESTORE FILELISTONLY FROM DISK = 'c:Northwind.bak' RESTORE DATABASE TestDB FROM DISK = 'c:Northwind.bak' WITH MOVE 'Northwind' TO 'c: est estdb.mdf', MOVE 'Northwind_log' TO 'c: est estdb.ldf' GO
But... When I build stored procedure and call it through VB6. I've got the gray database symbol along with message TestDB (Loading/Suspecting) Why I cannot run these commands through VB6
I asked this question before but never received a decent answer. When a restore fails, what are the steps to re-start the restore? This should be a very common issue and for the life of me I have been unable to find it in BOL or the MS site! Please let me in on the secret!!
HiI am trying to copy a 20 GB database from server 1 to 2. I took a fullbackup, copied to server2 and restored ( ready for use) using EM.After the message restore completed, I see the database's status as LOADING.We are on Sql Server 2000 (8.00.818) on Windows 2000 Adv Servers.I ran dbcc on the source DB and it returned no errors. I tried the command'restore db with recovery ' which didnot help. I get an message saying thatthe data file is only partially restored.. It seems the last resort is tochange the status in system tables.Any ideas?ThanksRagu
I have a SSIS package that copies data from one database, into another, makes a backup, and then FTP's up the backup to a web server. In Sql Server I've made a job to run the package and a Stored procedure to activate the job from an Access database front-end.
Can anyone tell me how I might return a success/failure message to my access user?
I have seen this before. A 2000 restore fails, leaving the database thinking it is being restored but the restore job failed and errors when it is restarted. EM is clueless. I believe there is a proc to reset some flag. Can you share it with me???
Hi is it possible to have a page of a website display the status of a database or MS SQL with .Net code ?, if so what code would i use. Any help would be appreciated.Thank You
I used the sp_msforeachtable stored proc to disable all triggers in a database. Once the command is complete, I want to see the statuses of all these triggers . I am used to an Oracle database so I miss the data dictionary views that easily show this info. Also, I need to view the statuses of all FKs once they are all disabled as well.
A hard drive crashed on one of our MS SQL Server 2005 and brought the server down with it. We had replaced the hard drive and rebuilt the RAID 5 container and got the server rebooted. However, one of the databases got corrupted after that. THis is the error logs snippet: =============== ,An error occurred during recovery<c/> preventing the database 'survey_p0765392' (database ID 439) from restarting. Diagnose the recovery errors and fix them<c/> or restore from a known good backup. If errors are not corrected or expected<c/> contact Technical Support., ===============
We have backup which is 2 days old, and restoring from the backup would result in us losing a lot of records that we have created since then. Is there any way to recover the data from this database? How canI repair it? Please advice. Thanks
1. Is it possible and what would be the gotchas for taking a backup of a database in a 32 bit instance of sql server 2000 and loading it into a 64 bit instance of 2000? How about 2005 to 2005?
2. Is it possible to reverse that and go from a 64 bit to a 32 bit?
3. How about going from a 32 bit sql server 2000 into a 64 bit sql server 2005?
We're on the verge of upgrading a rather large database from sqlserver 2000 (32 bit) into 2005 (32 bit) but they anticipate eventually upgrading the hardware to 64 bit at least for production. The test node would remain at 32 bit. Thanks for any help.
Hello, I have a database design question. I want to store a status in a table. In the ASP.NET interface for the user this status will be adapted to the language of the user. This is how it would look like: StatusID 1 = "yes" for English, "oui" for French, "ja" for DutchStatusID 2 = "no" for English, "non" for French, "neen" for DutchStatusID 3 = "error" for English, "erreur" for French, "fout" for Dutch I don't want to do the translation in ASP.NET and it should be done in one query. How would it look like in the database design.
Our database is running in full recovery mode and we backup the logfile every hour and the database file every night. I notice thetimestamp of database file *.mdf remains unchanged a few days. Forexample one database has its timestamp at Apr 15 while it is Apr 20already.I am wondering if this is acceptable. How do I force the system toflush the data and dirty blocks to the disk more frequently? What isthe downside to this? Thanks for any idea.
I gave the command to restore database and in the middle of recovery i canceled it. now the database is showing 'loading'. I am not able to do any thing to it.please suggest how to make it operational.I also want the data upto the time, I gave the command 'recover database'. thanks.
I have just restored one of my databases. Now, that database is no longer available to me. It has been marked as 'Database(Loading)'
I have reviewed and tried the suggestions given from previous posts of this same question, and they have not been successful (i.e. 'RESTORE DATABASE DPeople WITH RECOVERY' as well as re-restoring the database).
I have to load a 4 level XML file into Relational Database.
1. The input xml file contains a DTD definition reference. (Its an external file)
2. When tried using an XML source it prompts to set the prohibitdtd setting to false on xmlreader - How to do this.
3. I have primary keys (identity columns) - which are foreign keys in the next level and these primary keys can be generated only once I insert the record into the table. - What would be the best approach for this kind of Data transformations.
From SQL Management Studion I go to Management > Database Mail and I am trying to send a test email but I never receive anything. I checked my SMTP Mail Server Logs and I saw no entry of my test email. I also I checked my SQL Database Mail Logs and everything seems fine, no errors are reported. The msdb.dbo.sysmail_allitems shows my email status as "sent". So what am I missing? What steps would you recommend for troubleshooting my problem? Thank you, Ric
On my page I am using a wizard control with textboxes to collect data from the visitor. When they click the finish button - this inserts their data into a Sql database.
On the form is a checkbox. I dont know what type to use in the database column to accept this and also how to configure the checkbox on the page so I know if its checked.
Also what would be inserted into the database column "yes" "no" or a numerical value??
One of the database in our SQL Server 2000 environment is in the suspect status. We need to bring it back to the normal status.
The problem occurred because the disk on which the data file and log file for this database were placed ran out of space.
Pls note other databases in the same server are working fine. Later on more space was made available on this disk. We tried the following options but with no success.
1. Reset the status of database and restarted the SQL Server. After restarting the SQL Server, the database once again was showing the suspect status. 2. Used the same data and log file in another SQL Server and attached with the database in this another SQL Server. 3. Tried dbcc chkdb with repair_allow_data_loss.
Since the database is in suspect status, we are neither able to export the data nor able to back up the database.
Please suggest some options to recover the database from the suspect status. Also it would be great if we can get the commands, scripts to find if the data/log file is corrupt and a way to correct it (even with data loss is fine).
Helo i want to uplaod and doenload some image from database. For uploading the image i am doing the folowing things. and it is working fine i am using Input file of HTML shiiped with .NET and Image control of Asp.NEt

I canceled a restore job, and now the database is marked (Loading). When I go to propertied it tells me "database can't be opened, it's in a middle of a restore" Yet from a Query window I can connect and run queries against that database. Should I just wait until it finishes "Loading" or should I re-start the server? Thanks
while loading the transaction log dump on a 'STANDBY' database the connection got terminated. as a result the database was marked 'LOADING' and inaccesible. i would like to know if there is a way to get the db out of this mode without having to reapply a full database dump.
P.S. please ignore the previous two messages posted with the same subject line. i inadvertently pressed post twice. sorry for the spam.
I have a problem in restoring a Database. I have restored a database of size 25MB only onto a different database. This I have done through Query Analyzer not through Enterprise Manager. After restoration the database changed to Loading mode.
I thought it would take some time and change back to the normal mode. But in my case even after 24 hours database didnot change back to the normal mode. I am able to use database.
The following is the command executed through Query Analyzer,
RESTORE DATABASE Test FROM disk ='c:mssql7ackuphrmdump.dat' WITH REPLACE, MOVE 'Test' TO 'c:mssql7datahrm.mdf', MOVE 'Test_log' TO 'c:mssql7datahrm_log.ldf'
I am new at SQL and I have been asked to load some data into a database. I was given a file that has an extention .sql. shown below are the first few lines
This looks to me like it was built to be scripted in or use some function of SQL to create and populate the table... does that make sense? Anyway, is there an easy way to insert this data into a table?
