I have just installed SP1 and now the IS service will not start at all. I have tried using the LocalSystem account and an account with domain admin rights that I use to run all the other SQL Server services.
Before the SP was applied the service was running fine.
I have tried starting it from the command prompt, services and configuration manager but none of them work, I get the following error message:
"The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"
This message is also in in the System Event Viewer, but there are no messages in the Application Event Viewer for the IS Service so I am now officially stumped (not to mention frustrated)
Please help!

I am hoping someone can help me. I am having issues changing the service account MSSQLSERVER. I changed it to Local System only due to issues installing Service Packs up SP2 Critical. I used the Configuration tool to do so. I have installed all patches up to and including Critical update ( KB 934458 ). I had a heck of a time getting them to install under custom service accounts. Now when I change the service accounts back to a custom account using the configuration tool the service wont start at all.
To be clear. The service runs fine under Local System Account, but I want to run it under a limited account. I used the config tool and made sure the permissions groups were added, but it still fails to start. I am not sure what SSL log entries below is referring to.
I am running:

Hi all,
I have installed integration service on a SQL Server 2005 development server and could not start the service.
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edtion (SP2) + SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (SP2) are installed on the server.
When trying to start the service from SQL Server configuration tool or directly from service, got message saying that the service did not start in a timely fashion.
Nothing is logged to event log.
Found this this kb.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918644
The problem description is similar but not sure whether it is the same problem.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm getting a login prompt. I am admin on my laptop. My admin login

Am I missing a special security setting for IE7 that I have to change to
allow access to SSRS? I can open the SSRS configuration tool,
but not SSRS itself.
Thanks!!

Is it possible to have a custom start date parameter on a report? I would like to have a cumulative daily report for the week, Friday to Thursday. The final daily to run on the Friday, then the next week begins. I have a enddate, which is today()-1 (for previous day); I need a start date to be variable.
In other words,
On a Monday, report pulls data from last Friday to Sunday;
On a Tuseday, report pulls data from last Friday to Monday,
On a Wednesday, report pulls data from Friday to Tuesday, etc,
until on Friday, the report pulls data from last Friday to Thursday.

Hi,
I am installing SSRS 2005 with the following scenario:
- Report Server and Report Manager will be installed on web server
- The repository databases (ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB) will be hosted in SQL2005 cluster server.
Both servers are running Win2003 SP1, SQL/SSRS 2005 SP1
When I try to browse the ReportServer virtual directory from IIS on the web server, the system keep asking username and password. After 3 times trials and it failed eventhough the username and password is correct.
The error message is:
HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
Internet Information Services (IIS)
I've been searching on the web and found couple of articles talking about this issue. I've tried some of them like: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887993 or even this one: http://groups.google.ca/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.reportingsvcs/browse_frm/thread/991c9178ceab8f58/8f1a447aa60ad837?lnk=st&q=reporting+services+the+server+is+not+responding&rnum=3&hl=en#8f1a447aa60ad837
But this doesn't work.
I've checked both event viewer both web server and SQL server, but I can't see any information that tell me what had happened.
I also look at BOL, but doesn't help much.
Is there anyone can help me or point me to the right direction? Is there any guide document that explains step-by-step how to install SSRS in my scenario or similiar?
Many Thanks,
Usman Tjiudri

Since installing Reporting Services on my machine, I have been getting an error whenever I try to execute a reader.read line.
When I ran the same exact code on another machine using someone else's credentials who did not have Reporting Services it ran fine. When I tried to run it on someone else's machine who did not have Reporting Services using my own credentials, I got the same error. Also, when the person who's pc and credentials worked fine on his machine ran the same code back on my machine using his own credentials, he got the same error. When another person who also had Reporting Services tried to run it on his own pc, he got the error as well.
When the reader is first executed (MyDataReader = sSql.ExecuteReader) these were the property values:
depth = 0
fieldcount = 5
hasrows = true
isclosed = false
Item = In order to evaluate an indexed property, the property must be qualified and the arguments must be explicitly supplied by the user.
recordsaffected = -1 (even though there are records)
VisibleFieldCount = 5
When the reader is loaded into a table (MyTable.Load(MyDataReader)) then the property values changed to:
Depth = {"Invalid attempt to Depth when reader is closed."}
FieldCount = {"Invalid attempt to Depth when reader is closed."}
HasRows = {"Invalid attempt to Depth when reader is closed."}
IsClosed= True
Item = In order to evaluate an indexed property, the property must be qualified and the arguments must be explicitly supplied by the user.
RecordsAffect = -1
VisibleFieldCount = {"Invalid attempt to Depth when reader is closed."}
And when I execute the the following code:
dtReader = MyTable.CreateDataReader()
While (dtReader.Read())
I get this error:
"DataTableReader is Invalid for Current DataTable"
Since the code works with someone else's credentials on a machine that does not have SSRS, and the same problem happens for me regardless of what machine I am on as long as I am using my own credentials what could be causing my problem?

I made one report in SSRS 2008 in which getting data from one SharePoint List.
three parameters in report :
Country
StartDate
EndDate
I am using query which I created with CAML.
query is running well and data is coming correctly if I run this on Query designer.and date format must be YYYY-MM-DD.but when I try to run through on run time then the date control is showing format dd/mm/yyyy.
I change the regional settings of windows and SharePoint site to English(United States). and when I select date control it is also putting date in format like "YYYY-MM-DD'. and in that format report is working well in Query designer view.But on run time still it is not working.

Is it possible to install and configure the MSDTC resource in a SQL Server 2000 cluster after SQL is installed and running?
When I recently went through a rebuild of my cluster, I forgot to install the resource before installing SQL Server. Now, if I install and bring online the MSDTC resource the SQL disk groups will not fail over correctly. The SQL Server resource will not come online.
Thanks in advance for any help. I would really like to avoid rebuilding again.

Is it possible to write SSRS 2008 reports to run on an existing SSRS 2005 server?
If yes, what do I need to do to be able to write SSRS 2008 reports on my developer PC that will run on the SQL 2005 Server (which also has SSRS 2005 installed on it)?
I installed Visual Studio 2008 beta on the development PC and it appears that it needs SSRS installed on it too. So I installed SQL 2008 SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) and SQL 2008 Workstation Components onto the developer PC. Next I run the SQL 2008 "Reporting Services Configuration" tool. When I click on the "Web Service URL" section it hangs indefinitely and I have to force it closed.
The developer PC is Windows Vista Business.
Any suggestions on making this work, or any other information that you can think of that would allow me to use Visual Studio 2008 and the SQL 2008 "Report Designer Preview" tool to develop SSRS reports that will run on the SQL 2005 SSRS server?
Thanks!

...So glad there are still folks out there running 6.5! We've been running 6.5 and 7.0 for the last year or so (one of our apps required 6.5). SQL 6.5 is running on an Alpha box, and SQL 7.0 is running on an Intel box. I want to install 6.5 on yet another Intel box, then install 7.0 on that SAME box so that I can perform the DTS. (Doing DTS across different CPU types failed to transfer application objects.) After that is successful, I will uninstall the 6.5 on the Intel box and no longer use the Alpha box for SQL. Both the Alpha and Intel boxes are on the same Windows NT domain.
Here is the issue. After performing the CD install of 6.5 on the Intel box, I get a message that the install could not be performed successfully because the MSSQL service could not be started. When I attempt to start it manually from Control Panel, I get an NT Error 3 - that the path cannot be found. (And the errorlog says that the server is unnamed.) So the MSSQL folder exists, the MSSQL Server and SQL Exec services are visible in Control Panel (unstarted), the registry contains SQL Server info, but the only way I've been able to start SQL Server at all is by using the Net Start MSSQLserv command.
I have repeated this step a few times - by deleting the MSSQL folder and re-running SETUP. At no point does NT remove the MSSQL services or the registry entries. In the end, NT or MSSQL still cannot find the "path" needed to start up SQL Server.
What do I need to do to "reset the clock" so that NT knows where to find these services?

Now an hour passed and the window is still there. The SSQL service manager on the toolbars still has a red icon but not green. My questions are how do I know the process is done? What is the next step after SQL global counter collection task? Where can I find more information?
Thanks a lot.

I have recently invested in a new server that is running SBS premium, this come with SQL server and as a result of which I feel its time for me to start getting to grips with it.
I have reasonable knowledge of database design and SQL, extensive experience with access and some with Oracle. I have however never dealt with SQL server.
I generally don't have too much trouble picking up new technologies, and was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for learning SQL server from scratch? Is it realistic to be able to achieve this without doing a formal course? I intend to start using it to develop data-driven websites and applications.
Any help, advice and/or pointers are greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Dan

Hi,
I am not able to start any SQL Server job. Trying to start a job from Enterprise Manger, I get no error but the job doesnt execute.
Looks like in the Application Log there was an error 'Unable to read local eventlog'. Is this related to the problem or what should I do to fix this.
Thanks for the help.

Hi,
Getdate() will get me the date, but how I can calculate two other datetime values corresponding to the very first second and the very last second of the current day?
Eg.
Today is 2008-04-09 <whatever time>
Startdate should be 2008-04-09 00:00:01
Enddate should be 2008-04-09 23:59:59
Cheers,
Matt

Here's what I want to do:
I have a lot of instructions on how to do certain things for our department. I want to put these into a searchable database.
Right now, the way it's setup, there's a list of catagories, and under each catagory, a list of articles. Easy enough.
But, now I want to have an option to search for keywords that bring up different articles.
I realize that I will probably have to recode certain things which is fine.
How do I get started?? I have IIS 6.0 on Server 2003 with SQL Server 2005 Express installed.
I have no experience with databases, SQL, Access, etc.
