Agent And Permissions To Write To Folder?

Apr 27, 2015

I see that a recent related message was posted about built-in accounts.

Anyway, a vendor set up system using SQL 2014. The SQL Server Agent service was running under the 'Local System Account'.

Agent jobs were failing because they couldn't write to a shared folder on the same server. I decided to change the account to a regular privileged domain user. Here is the error message:

Executed as user MYDOMAINSQL2014Agent Cannot open backup device 'EackupMyBackup' Operating system error 5(Access is denied). [SQLSTATE 42000] [Error 3201] BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally [SQLSTATE 42000] [Error 3013]. The step failed

I granted Full Control to that domain user and it still failed. I added 'Everyone' and gave it Full Control and it succeeded.

I understand that the account under which the Agent is running should have Write permissions on the share. However, I must have missed something. The only way I can get this to work is to grant Write or Full Control to Everyone. I absolutely do not want to do that.

SSIS Or SQl Agent Job Moving From A Network Folder To A Sharepoint Folder - Errors...

Oct 31, 2007

Ok,

I have a network folder called A

I have a SharePoint (2007) Document Library site called B. Web Client is enabled on the server and B is mapped as a Drive (let's call it Y for this discussion)

I want to move documents in A to B. Easy enough, right? Not so....

I first started by creating a batch file that issues a COPY \A \Y /Y at the command prompt. Viola! Worked Great!

I then moved that command to a SQL Agent job as a CMDExec statement (exact same statement) and attempted to run it.....CRASH! It found the files in A but then said "The system cannot find the path specified"

Ok, so I tried it in SSIS. CRASH! Checked the error log. Same thing...

So I then checked the account under which the SQl Agent was running (special domain account for all our SQL Servers). Thinking it might mater I changed it to run under my name (I'm in Domain admin). I also ensured I had permissions to the SPS 2007 library as well. (I did).

Ran again! CRASH! Same error....

So, I created a batch file , placed thec ommand in the batch file and ran that from the command prompt! Viola! Worked Great.

So, I was thinking of how ingenious I was as I pasted my C:RootCopy.bat into my SQL Agent job. With a big grin on my face I right clicked and picked "Start Job at step".......CRASH! Same error.

Does anyone have any ideas on this ???????????????

Thanks,
Stephen

Backup Master Key, Cannot Write Into File 'c: Empmaster'. Verify That You Have Write Permissions, That The File Path Is Valid.

Jul 12, 2006

Hi,

I tried to backup the master key by the following syntax :

OPEN MASTER KEY DECRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mypassword'

BACKUP MASTER KEY TO FILE = 'c: empmaster' ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mypassword'

but it failed and i got the following message:

Cannot write into file 'c: empmaster'. Verify that you have write permissions, that the file path is valid, and that the file does not already exist.

NB: I am using the "sa" user to execute this command.

I know that we have a security permission issue , but where and how ?

Hotfix Resets Folder Permissions

Hi-

Whenever I apply a hotfix to my SQL 2005 install, the folder permissions on :Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQL are always reset. Any reason why this happens? I have explicit permission set on that directory to allow our DBAs access as they are not admins on the server.

Thanks.

Reporting Services :: Cannot Modify Folder Permissions

May 21, 2014

We have a SQL 2012 SSRS instance. We need to modify the permissions on one of the reporting folders. I went to the Security setting of the folder, clicked "New role assignment", then entered a group name into the box and selected desired permission ("Browser" in this case).

However this always fails with the same error: "The user or group name 'BUILTINBUILTIN' is not recognized. (rsUnknownUserName)"

I always get the same error no matter if I enter user or group, domain or local. And it always says BUILTINBUILTIN. I've tried changing the SSRS service account to a domain account (it was a local one), but that didn't work.

Setting Correct SQL Express Folder Permissions

Feb 13, 2008

Hi

I have a vm machine running SQL Express. So as to centralise my data, on the host machine I have a folder with all my data. This folder is shared. In the vm machine I have set up mapped to this folder, so it is visible within in. I can add/remove from the folder in explorer so the permissions look okay up to there.

However, when I go into SQL Express and attempt to restore from a backup into a DB, I cannot see the folder in the folder list presented. When I try and force the connection through the mapped drive letter or unc name, the server fails with a you do not have permissions.

From my reading it looks like I have got a network service account set up but, when I look at the logins in SQL Express there doesn't appear to be such an account.

Could someone either
a) point me in the right direction if the netowrk service account is not the way to go
b) tell me how to set up a netowrk service account with the correct privileges to enable me to read /write this mapped folder.

Thanks

Simon

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Trigger To Call A Program To Write Text File Onto A Folder In Server

Apr 29, 2014

I have created a trigger to call a program that is written by our program. The program is basically read the record in the table and write to a text file, then delete the record from the table.

The trigger is a after insert trigger. After we added the trigger, we insert a record to the table. The result is that the record still and did not get deleted. Also, the text file didn't get created either. It seems that it take a long time for the record to be written to the table.

But if we just run the program (a exe file), it can write a text file in the folder and delete the record. the trigger is basically:

USE [Zinter]
GO
/****** Object: Trigger [dbo].[ZinterProcess] Script Date: 04/29/2014 18:34:56 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO

Does anyone know a way (a query perhaps?) to determine which logins have write permissions to a specific database on SQL Server 2005? Ive thought about joining sys.syslogins & sys.sysusers but looking at the columns, not sure which one would render me that info.

Any help is appreciated. Many thanks!

SQL Agent Jobs And Permissions

But I do not want them to be members

Does anyone have an idea on how to
accomplish this? or point me in some

Jobs, Proxies And SQL Agent Permissions.....

Apr 22, 2008

I have a job with a single ActiveX step that I have setup and am having problems running.

If i set the SQL Server Agent to run as an Administrator then my job processes fine however under the default setup which has the SQL Server Agent running as Local System I get an error.

I assume this is permissions problem so I created a basic windows user called ABC. I then created a credential called ABC linked to the windows user ABC. I then created a proxy that uses the credential ABC and then ticked the box that allows the proxy to run ActiveX scripts. I then set the ABC as a principle of the proxy.

I then set my single job step to be run under the ABC credential.

Still no luck. This is the first time i've worked with this sort of thing so I'm not sure if I'm going about it in the right way.

Please explain how i can have a job that runs as an active X script. I understand running sql server agent as administrator is bad for security so what are the alternatives?

SQL Backup Agent Service Account Permissions

Dec 11, 2007

Hi,

If we were to assign permissions to a backup agent such as Backup Exec to backup the databases on the SQL server, what role would give the least amount but sufficient permissions to perform the backup? I know domain admin would make the agent a local admin and therefore allow it to back up the database but is there a role available to allow backup only?

Please note that I'm referring to a domain account used by Backup Exec to directly backup the databases rather than sql server agent.

Thanks.

No Permissions To Run SSIS Package From SQL Server Agent?

Sep 6, 2007

I've been looking everywhere for a hint on how to tackle this, but can't get it to work.

I have an SSIS package that I am trying to run from SQL Server Agent.

I have been able to run it fine from the IDE, and from within the Integration Services system on my database server. However when I try to run the package via SQL Server Agent I get the following error:
"Executed as user: MyDomainSQLServer. The package execution failed. The step failed."

The login name is the SQL Server service account, which is a domain account on our domain. The package is set with EncryptSensitiveWithPassword and the password is supplied on the command line via the /DECRYPT flag.

I am thinking that maybe there is a permissions problem with the service account, but I can't find any detailed information about what actual permissions this account requires. I have tried expanding its permissions, but continue to get this error.

How should the MyDomainSQLServer account be configured?

SSIS Package Runs OK Manually But Not From SQL Server Agent...Permissions?

Dec 19, 2007

I have a problem where I have an SSIS package (SQL Server 2005) that won't run properly from SQL Server Agent, but it runs fine when kicked off manually from Integration Services -> Run Package or when run in debug from Visual Studio.

The first step in the package checks for the existance of a file via a script task. The script looks like this...

Code Block
Public Sub Main()

Dim TaskResult As Integer
Dim ImportFile As String = CStr(Dts.Variables("BaseDirectory").Value) + CStr(Dts.Variables("ImportDirectory").Value) + CStr(Dts.Variables("ImportFile").Value)

If Dir(ImportFile) = "" Then
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Failure
Else
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success
End If

Return

End Sub

This script runs fine and the file is seen as expected when I run the package manually. But as a step in a SQL Server Agent job, it doesn't see the file.

The SQL Server Agent service is set to start up / log on as a Local System Account. I've also tried setting up a credential / proxy (using an account that I know can see and even move / rename the file) to run the job as but that didn't seem to help.

The package is being run from SQL Server (stored in MSDB) and is set to rely on SQL Server for sensitive information, so I don't think that's an issue; other packages are set up like this in terms of sensitive data and run fine.

Any ideas why my script can't "see" the file I'm looking at when it's kicked off by SQL Server agent? I've looked and looked...I can't seem to figure this out. I would really appreciate any help you might be able to offer up.

Unable To Copy App_data Folder Databases On Production Server To A Different Folder Or Location

I dont alot about sql server 2005(Express edition). For debugging purposes i want to copy  the whole app_data folder(.mdf & .log files) on the production server to another folder on the same machine(or sometimes to a network folder).  So when i copy and try to paste this App_data folder to a new location, i get this error message
"cannot copy ASPNETDB: it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using the file and try again."
After reading the above message, i close visual web developer, stop the website in IIS and stop the SQLExpress service on the server and try again but still get the same message.
So how can i make sure that all the programs accessing these database files are closed such that i'm able able to copy them to a different location.

Can I Use The Foreach Loop To Obtain The Sub Folder Names Within A Folder?

MainFolder

1999

SpreadsheetA.xls

SpreadsheetC.xls

SpreadsheetA.xls

SpreadsheetB.xls

SpreadsheetC.xls

etc.

Is there a way that I can use the foreach loop container to loop the sub folders? My plan was to get the folder name and path into a variable, use this to build the connection string for each file in this folder, carry out the upload for that folder, then move onto the next folder and do the same thing, but I cannot see a way to do this.

I denied access in the table itself, however the views still allow for the user to select that password. Hi All,

I would appreciate any help here at all. I am pulling my hair out!

I am unable to start the snapshot agent or log reader agent from within SQL management studio. it fails on executing step 2 with unknown username or bad password.

I have checked all account details and they are correctly using my domain admin account. I can connect to SQL using teh same account and it also has sysadmin permissions.

If i copy the step 2 paramters and start from the cmd prompt (again logged in using the same domain account) they both start fine.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.
