Table Columns Expand Horizontally When Viewing Report Through Report Server

Jan 10, 2008

I have an interesting problem to report that I'm hoping someone will be able to assist in solving.

I have a report that contains a table inside of a list. When I view this report on my local machine via Visual Studio, everything appears normal, the columns are all the correct size. However, as soon as I publish this report to the report server and attempt to view it via Report Manager, one of the columns expands horizontally!

From all of the documentation I have read, I understand that Reporting Services does not provide the ability for columns to expand horizontally, only vertically. Can anyone help explain why this is happening or a possible solution to turn this automatic expanding off?

Many thanks,

Error Viewing Report Created In Report Builder

Using the report builder, I created a simple report based on a report model. This report runs ok in the report builder.

I proceeded to save the report to the report server, but when I want to view this report in Report Manager, I get the following error:

Report Manager Page Breaks

Feb 12, 2008

When viewing reports in Report Manager, I can't keep a consistent view. Some reports are on several pages, requiring the move to the next page, and some just appear as one long report to scroll down through. I cannot find any difference in the reports to indicate what causes that. I had posted this question before, and thought I had found the answer (moving info out of the table header and putting it in a group header) that only worked on one occasion and I still have inconsistent reports. Does anyone have an idea why this is happening?

I don't have page breaks set on any groups in these reports, at least none that I am aware of. I have checked one against the other to see if I can find any difference, but nothing as yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Report Add Line Breaks When Printing Or Exporting To .pdf/.tif

Jan 2, 2008

I have e-mails saved in a SQL database with all HTML formatting information.
To remove all HTML formatting I craeted a function on the RS report:

Public Shared Function removeHtmlChar(ss)
try
Dim l as integer
Dim i as integer
Dim ch as string
Dim x as integer
Dim t as string
t = ""
l=len(ss)
for i=1 to l
ch=mid(ss,i,1)
x=i
if(ch="<") then
x=i
do while(mid(ss,x,1)<>">")
x=x+1
loop
else
t=t & ch
end if
i=x
next
t = t.Replace("nbsp;"," ")
removeHtmlChar = t
catch
removeHtmlChar = ""
end try
End Function

When I look at the report on the screen the report is showed correct.
If I print or export the report it add a lot of line breaks in the e-mail text.
Why does it not print it as it looks at the screen?

Forms Authentication Breaks Report Designer?

Oct 17, 2007

I have implemented forms authentication via a custom security extension in RS2005 as described in a relevant sample. I am asked for credentials when accessing the Report Manager and the Report Builder, however I can no longer connect to the report server in SQL Server Management Studio (I get HTML code as the error message) and the Preview tab in the Report Designer now fails with User Not Authorized.

I can live with the first problem, but the Report Designer needs to work. When I debug the extension, I can see that LogonUser method is being passed empty strings. This makes sense, since the Report Designer has not asked me for the credentials. Do I need to modify any the of the Designer configs to have it pop up the username/password window (similar to Report Builder) or is the only solution to use Windows Authentication on development machines and Forms Authentication in production?

Multiple Tables In A Report And Page Breaks

Sep 25, 2007

I have a report with 5-6 tables showing different summary information. These are set up to all go one after another and there are no page breaks. The only instance I would like a page break is if a table content is getting split cross pages. Is there a way for me to specify that a table will be on a new page if it is broken accross multiple pages?

(This is due to Row growth, not column growth)
(KeepTogether is set to true)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Viewing Report From Report Manager

Jan 22, 2008

Hi,
I made a SSRS report in .Net IDE and then deployed it on to the SSRS report server. The deployment went through and I could see the report on the Report Manager page. But now the issue is that when I click on the report name in the Report Manager the report tries to render itself but can't do it and throws up the following error:

An error has occurred during report processing.

Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'.

The feature: "The edition of Reporting Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database." is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services.

I had built this datasource in the .Net IDE and is not visible on the Report Manager data source page.

Any ideas how to resolve this??
My versions: OS: Windows XP SP2;; SQL Server 2005 Exp Adv (with reporting services support). This is all being worked out on the same machine.

Thanks.

Calculated Measure Causes RsMissingFieldInDataSet And Breaks Report Expressions

Sep 17, 2006

Robert Bruckner [MSFT] in his response to "This field is missing from the returned result set" says that rsMissingFieldInDataSet is "only a warning"

I have a report with 7 simple calculated measures to show counts for 7 ratings: ([Measures].[Score Card Count],[Attainment].[Attainment - ATTAINMENT].<rating>).

6 measures work fine; one, for which there is no rating in the fact table returns rsMissingFieldInDataSet warning. Even worse, if I use this field in an expression in the report with other measures, the return is always nothing.

In other words, although this is "only" a warning, it actually causes errors by not returning values from expressions.

I tried to check for null/nothing but could not prevent "breaking" the expressions. Any ideas?

Report Viewing Error

Apr 9, 2008

Hi,

I have deployed the Reports created in the dev server to another server say ABCD. I am able to view the Report manager of ABCD from the dev server and also the projects under it. Also I can see the list of reports in it. But when I am trying to view any report it gives me an error saying "Your Browser does not support scripts or has been configured not to allow scripts". Has any one of you come across similar kind of problem? Has this anything to do with the browser settings or with the report server settings?

Thanks in advance

Report Viewing And Vista

Jul 11, 2007

Hi

I am facing a strange problem while viewing a Windows Report in Windows Vista.

I have a machine which has Vista installed as the Operating system. I have two user id created to log into the system.

(Assumed user A and User B). Both the users have the same login credentials. However, the default user of the system is

User B.

I have a windows application, which uses Winreports for viewing the reports. I am creating the entire rdlc on - the - fly based on

the parameters specified from the User Interface. If I log into the system using user A and try to view the reports, the report is

perfectly generated and is being viewed properly without any error. However, if I log into the system using User B (the

default user of the system) and then try to view the same report (with all the parameters same) I am getting an Unauthorised

Access Violation error.

Please help with some of our valuable suggestions.

FYI: This happens only on PC having Windows Vista as the Operating System

Thanking you in advance,

Kind Regards,

SSRS Removes Spaces And Line Breaks From Single Field Report

Jan 2, 2008

I am storing formatted data (including spaces and line breaks) in a single field in a table.
When I run a report on that field, the preview of the report is automatically removing all the extra spaces and line breaks, making the report unreadable.
When exporting the report to PDF or printing it, it shows the line breaks and spaces as expected.

Does anyone know how to make the report preview show the spaces and line breaks?

Problem Viewing Reports In Report Builder

Feb 8, 2006

Hi.

I get a problem when I want to preview a report in Report Builder. I just launch Report Builder by the url [1] (RS is on a server, and I work on a laptop). Then I choose a model and create a simple report. When I press "Run Report", I get an error message saying: "The permissions granted to user 'mydomainmyusername' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)". But my user are assigned to content manager...

If I then save the report to the Report Server, I can access the report through e.g. the Report Manager without any problems.

Why doesn't the preview functionality work for me? Are there some settings I need to set, or is it a bug in Report Builder?

Regards, Tomsi

Viewing Reports Via Report Manager Fails (while Other Methods Succeed)

May 14, 2008

I'm having a strange problem with SSRS 2005 that I'm hoping someone might be able to help with. I've reinstalled SSRS (multiple times) and even reinstalled IIS hoping to resolve the problem, but it still exists.

The problem is that trying to view a report via Report Manager is failing. All other operations within Report Manager work fine (browsing folders and report lists, viewing folder and report properties, changing properties, setting permissions, etc.) Only trying to view reports fails. Whenever I try to view a report, I get the following error:

The request failed with HTTP status 401: Access Denied.

I can view reports via other methods just fine. For example, if I browse to the http://localhost/reportserver URL directly, I can view any report just fine. And if I connect to SSRS via SSMS, I can view reports there as well. I believe that both of those methods use a direct reportserver URL versus using the http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx page within the Report Manager virtual directory.

Here's a bit of configuration information that may or may not be helpful to someone:

1. This is on a laptop running Windows XP SP2 (32-bit). SSRS (and all SQL Server components) are installed as default instances and SQL Server SP2 has been applied to everything.

2. All of the latest updates and fixes for Windows, SQL Server, Office, etc. have been installed via Windows Update.

3. This laptop is a member of a domain, but I am typically not connected to the domain (not in the office very often). I am, however, logging into the laptop using a domain account (with cached credentials). Local user accounts are frowned on by the domain and IT administrators involved (except for running local services). My domain account has full admin permissions within Windows and within SQL everywhere.

4. As far as I can tell, everything with regards to IIS, asp.net, and SSRS are configured correctly (ASPNET account seems to be set up correctly, all SQL services including the SSRS service are running under a local account with admin permissions, the Reports and ReportServer virtual directories in IIS are set to use Integrated Security, etc.)

I'm not an expert on SSRS, so this one has me stumped. I've reviewed all of the config files that I can think of looking at for SSRS and I've looked at the SSRS logs. Nothing really jumps out at me in terms of changes that might be required (and the SSRS logs don't really say much other than repeating the error). For example, I see the following lines in the ReportServerWebApp__xxx.log file:

aspnet_wp!ui!8!5/14/2008-13:00:17:: e ERROR: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Access Denied.
aspnet_wp!ui!8!5/14/2008-13:00:17:: e ERROR: HTTP status code --> 500
-------Details--------
System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Access Denied.

Anyone have any ideas? I've searched Google for quite a while trying to find something that would help me figure this out, but thus far I've not been able to come up with anything. Any help (or pointers to something on teh web somewhere that I might have missed) would be appreciated!!

Giant White Space Shows Up When Viewing In Report Manager Only

May 16, 2006

Hello

I have created a report that works how I want it in the visual studio 2003 designer. I have deployed it to our test box (sql server 2k, reporting services with sp2) and when we preview the report, there is a giant white space between the graph in the report and the matrix object below it. This white space was not in the designer. It only shows when previewing the report. If you print from the report manager, it does not print the white space.

Is there a way to remove it from the report manager when the report is previewed? I am sure users will complain when they see this.

Thanks.

SSRS - Assert Errors When Viewing Report (RenderReport/RenderSnapshot)

Oct 26, 2007

I've been trying to find a fix to this but none of the ones I've found seem to fit.

I have a report uploaded to an SSRS server, it is part of a five report drill-through project. The top-level report renders without error. When I drill through to the second-level report I get an error. This also happens if I navigate to that report directly.

This is only happening on the machine listed below, it works fine in my staging and dev envs. And "User!UserId" is nowhere to be found in the RDL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can provide more info as needed.

LS Status Report Showing False Alert State

Nov 28, 2007

I have log shipping every 15 minutes working between 2 servers, and while the secondary server reports everything ok (time since last copy, restore are all under 15 minutes), the primary server reports that the time since last backup is 7400+ minutes. I have verified that the LS backup job has no failures. How can I correct this false error state and get the primary server to start reporting actual statuses?

The LS monitor is on the secondary server.

Page Breaks In PDF Don't Match Page Breaks In HTML

Mar 7, 2007

I have several nested sub-total groups that are all coded to "page break at end". I don't know how to tell RS to suppress the page break if one sub-total immediately follows another. The initial HTML output seems to be smart enough to do this suppression on its own, but when I export to PDF, all the page breaks appear. This causes several pages at the end of the report with one line per page. Perhaps, if I could explicitly suppress these page breaks, the PDF would render properly. How can I do this?

Page Breaks

Oct 24, 2007

Is there any way to force a matrix or table to display on only one page regardless of how much data there is?

I've tried checking fit this matrix on one page if possible, but apparently it isn't possible for some reason.

Page Breaks

Mar 11, 2008

Hi,

I want to get this straight, and so far it's not really working the way I want. So, here it is.

I got a table with multiple groups (3 grouping, Manager, Sale Type and Product Type). I want the Manager name being shown on every new page (which I enabled using the "Repeat on new page" property). This works fine so far. Then, I want that every time I have a new "Sale Type", it's on a new page.

This is where it gets hard. I can't get it to work the way I want.

If I set the group 2 with a "Page Break At Start", the first page of my report is blank (which is kind of logical looking at the property name). Same thing goes with "Page Break At End", but the last page is blank.

Is there any way to just have a table grouped without any blank page? Can I dynamicaly disable page breaks if it is the last page / first page of the report?

Here's what I want:

Manager: Some guy
Sale Type - Normal
Product - Mitsubishi Lancer
[some report detail goes here ...]

Page 1/2
** PAGE BREAK **

Manager: Some guy
Sale Type - Rent
Product - Honda Civic
[some report detail goes here ...]

Page 2/2

Page Breaks Being Ignored

Jun 1, 2007

I have a report with multiple data regions. Each region has its own dataset potentially. I want each region to appear on its own page. Sometime I get a page break where I want it and in other instances within the same report, the breaks are ignored and 2 regions will appear on the same page. I tried imbedding the data regions in rectangles and setting the page break on the rectangle but this doesn't seem to help. There doesn't seem to be any predictable pattern. Any ideas?

Why Arent The Breaks Showing Up?

Apr 4, 2008

Hi,
 We have an internal mail system, but when the user writes something into the textbox (textarea), he often uses enter to get the message over several lines, our problem is that when the message is saved to the database and retrieved, all the breaks are gone and its all on a single line. In the database its stored inside a field called "message nvarchar(MAX)". How can i preserve the linebreaks?
example, user writes:
Hello,Nice day,to go fishing.
output, after it has been saved and retrieved:
Hello, Nice day, to go fishing.

Patrick
