Alter Table Syntax Error - Anyone Sees The Error?

Nov 24, 2004

Hello,

the following alter table statement:

ALTER TABLE [dbo].[CalCalendar]

ALTER COLUMN [OID] uniqueidentifier NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED

is answered with:

Server: Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 2

Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'PRIMARY'.

which I consider to be interesting. Anyone has an idea why? I checked documentation but I do not see an error.

Note that:

ALTER TABLE [dbo].[CalCalendar]

ALTER COLUMN [OID] uniqueidentifier NOT NULL

DOES get executed, and

ALTER TABLE [dbo].[CalCalendar]

ALTER COLUMN [OID] uniqueidentifier NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY

produces the same error.

Now, in my understanding this has nothing to do with an index may already exist etc. - the eror indicates a SYNTAX error, before any checking. Makes no sense to me, though, reading the documentation.

So - anyone an idea?

Problem With ALTER TABLE Syntax

Jul 1, 2005

I finally found a way to "deploy" my local SqlServerExpress (SSE) database to the remote Sql2K server... In VisualWebDeveloper (VWD) I can create the table definition and then save the creation sql script and use that in SSE Express Manager while connected to my remote DB. I am describing this because I'm so surprised no one has had problems with this as thousands of developers, some very unexperienced (as me maybe!), are trying the same situation now that some are offering 2.0 hosting... Well I thought this was a great idea until the Sql2K server is returning error messages on the script VWD created. So please could you help since I'm not that good at complex sql scripting. It seems the error comes from the ALTER TABLE syntax:BEGIN TRANSACTIONSET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ONSET ARITHABORT ONSET NUMERIC_ROUNDABORT OFFSET CONCAT_NULL_YIELDS_NULL ONSET ANSI_NULLS ONSET ANSI_PADDING ONSET ANSI_WARNINGS ONCOMMITBEGIN TRANSACTIONCREATE TABLE dbo.Table2 ( prID int NOT NULL IDENTITY (1, 1), DateInserted datetime NOT NULL, Title nvarchar(100) NOT NULL, Description nvarchar(MAX) NULL, CategoryID smallint NOT NULL, DateLastUpdated datetime NULL, Price int NOT NULL, SpecialPrice int NULL, ImgSuffix nvarchar(5) NULL, ImgCustomWidth smallint NULL )  ON [PRIMARY]  TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]GOALTER TABLE dbo.Table2 ADD CONSTRAINT PK_Table2 PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( prID ) WITH( STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY]

Syntax To Add 2 Constraints Using Alter Table?

Jul 20, 2005

Just started learning SQL recently.But one thing i'm still not clear on is about altering relationships betweentables after they've been created.Instead of creating a foreign key when the table is first created - i createthe table and then run a query to set the foreign key and relationship(one-to-one, one-to-many etc)Anyways, long story short is i want to create a one-to-one relationship witha table but am having problems with adding more than one constraint at atime when altering a table.Understand yet? Easiest thing to do is show you:I have 2 tables: Branch_Table and Employee_TableI want to create a one-to-one relationship between emp_id on theBranch_Table and manager_id on the Employee_Table.The SQL i've written which doesn't seem to work is:ALTER TABLE Branch_TableAdd Constraint Branch_Table_FK1 FOREIGN KEY (manager_id)Add Constraint Branch_Table_UQ1 Unique (manager_id)References Employee_Table (emp_id));Am having trouble with that second Add constraint (UQ1 unique). I know it'ssomething to do with the Add syntax above.So basically, my question is can i create a one-to-one relationship withjust the one SQL Query? And how would i do it?Many thanks in advance.

Getting Server Error Syntax Error Converting The Nvarchar Value 'Sonoma' To A Column Of Data Type Int.

Apr 20, 2007

Hi, all
I'm getting this error at runtime when my page tries to populate a datagrid. Here's the relevant code.
First, the user selects his choice from a dropdownlist, populated with a sqldatasource control on the aspx side:<asp:SqlDataSource ID="sqlDataSourceCompany" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT [PayrollCompanyID], [DisplayName] FROM [rsrc_PayrollCompany] ORDER BY [DisplayName]">
</asp:SqlDataSource>
 And the dropdown list's code:<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlPayrollCompany" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True" DataSourceID="sqlDataSourcePayrollCompany"
DataTextField="DisplayName" DataValueField="PayrollCompanyID">
</asp:DropDownList>
Then, I use the selectedindexchanged event to bind the data to the datagrid. Here's that code:
 1 Sub BindData()
2
3 Dim ds As New DataSet
4 Dim sda As SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter
5 Dim strSQL As String
6 Dim strCon As String
7
8 strSQL = "SELECT [SocialSecurityNumber], [Prefix], [FirstName], [LastName], [HireDate], [PayrollCostPercent], " & _
9 "[Phone], [BadgeNumber], [IsSupervisor], [SupervisorID], [IsUser], [IsScout] FROM [rsrc_Personnel] " & _
10 "WHERE ([PayrollCompanyID] = @PayrollCompanyID)"
11
12 strCon = "Data Source=DATASOURCE;Initial Catalog=DATABASE;User ID=USERID;Password=PASSWORD"
13
14 sda = New SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter(strSQL, strCon)
15
16 sda.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlClient.SqlParameter("@PayrollCompanyID", Me.ddlPayrollCompany.SelectedItem.ToString()))
17
18 sda.Fill(ds, "rsrc_Personnel")
19
20 dgPersonnel.DataSource = ds.Tables("rsrc_Personnel")
21 dgPersonnel.DataBind()
22
23 End Sub
24

I'm assuming my problem lies in line 16 of the above code. I've tried SelectedItemIndex, SelectedItemValue too and get errors for those, as well.
What am I missing?
Thanks for anyone's help!

Execute SQL Task: Executing The Query Exec (?) Failed With The Following Error: Syntax Error Or Access Violation. Possible F

Jan 23, 2008

Hi,
I'm having an SSIS package which gives the following error when executed :

Error: 0xC002F210 at Create Linked Server, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "exec (?)" failed with the following error: "Syntax error or access violation". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.Task failed: Create Linked Server

The package has a single Execute SQL task with the properties listed below :

General Properties
Result Set : None

ConnectionType : OLEDB
Connection : Connected to a Local Database (DB1)
SQLSourceType : Direct Input
SQL Statement : exec(?)
IsQueryStorePro : False
BypassPrepare : False

Parameter Mapping Properties

variableName Direction DataType ParameterName

User::AddLinkSql Input Varchar 0

'AddLinkSql' is a global variable of package scope of type string with the value
Exec sp_AddLinkedServer 'Srv1','','SQLOLEDB.1',@DataSrc='localhost',@catalog ='DB1'

When I try to execute the Query task, it fails with the above error. Also, the above the sql statement cannot be parsed and gives error "The query failed to parse. Syntax or access violation"

I would like to add that the above package was migrated from DTS, where it runs without any error, eventhough
it gives the same parse error message.

I would appreciate if anybody can help me out of this issue by suggeting where the problem is.

Thanks in Advance.

The Push Method Returned One Or More Error Rows. See The Specified Error Table. [ Error Table Name = ]

Jan 10, 2008

Hi,
I have application in which i am performing synchronization between SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 CE.
I have one table "ItemMaster" in my database.There is no relationship with this table,it is standalone.I am updating its values from Windows Mobile Device.

I am performing below operations for that.
Step : 1 Pull To Mobile

Code BlockmoSqlCeRemoteDataAccess.Pull("ItemMaster", "SELECT * FROM ItemMaster", lsConnectString,RdaTrackOption.TrackingOn);

Step : 2 Using one device form i am updating table "ItemMaster" table's values.

Step : 3 Push From Mobile

Code BlockmoSqlCeRemoteDataAccess.Push("ItemMaster", msConnectString);

So i am getting an error on 3rd step.
While i am trying to push it says,
"The Push method returned one or more error rows. See the specified error table. [ Error table name = ]".
I have tried it in different ways but still i am getting this error.

Note : Synchronization is working fine.There is not issue with my IIS,SQL CE & SQL Server 2k.

Can any one help me?I am trying for that since last 3 days.

ALTER ASSEMBLY Error Msg 6509 An Error Occurred While Gathering Metadata From Assembly ‘&&<Assembly Name&&>’ With HRESULT 0x1.

Feb 22, 2008

I work with February CTP of SqlServer 2008.
I have an Assembly with several UDTs inside. Version of assembly is 1.0.*
I use CREATE ASSEMBLY statement to register this assembly, and it runs without any errors. Then I rebuild CLR solution without doing any changes in source code. In that case the only difference between new and old assemblies is version (difference in fourth part of version).
Then I try to update assembly in SqlServer. I use
ALTER ASSEMBLY <name>
FROM <path>
WITH PERMISSION_SET = UNSAFE, UNCHECKED DATA
statement for this. Statement runs with error:
Msg 6509An error occurred while gathering metadata from assembly €˜<Assembly name>€™ with HRESULT 0x1.
I found the list of condition for ALTER ASSEMBLY in MSDN:
ALTER ASSEMBLY statement cannot be used to change the following:
· The signatures of CLR functions, aggregate functions, stored procedures, and triggers in an instance of SQL Server that reference the assembly. ALTER ASSEMBLY fails when SQL Server cannot rebind .NET Framework database objects in SQL Server with the new version of the assembly.
· The signatures of methods in the assembly that are called from other assemblies.
· The list of assemblies that depend on the assembly, as referenced in the DependentList property of the assembly.
· The indexability of a method, unless there are no indexes or persisted computed columns depending on that method, either directly or indirectly.
· The FillRow method name attribute for CLR table-valued functions.
· The Accumulate and Terminate method signature for user-defined aggregates.
· System assemblies.
· Assembly ownership. Use ALTER AUTHORIZATION (Transact-SQL) instead.
Additionally, for assemblies that implement user-defined types, ALTER ASSEMBLY can be used for making only the following changes:
· Modifying public methods of the user-defined type class, as long as signatures or attributes are not changed.
· Adding new public methods.
· Modifying private methods in any way.

But I haven€™t done any changes in source code, so new version of assembly satisfies all this conditions.
What could be the reason for such behavior?
P.S. I€™ve got the same error, if I add or change any method in assembly before rebuilding.

Alter Database/collate Error

Dec 6, 2007

We're upgrading to SQL Server 2005, and we've restored databases from SQL Server 2000 to the development server (SQL Server 2005). Part of what we need to do is alter the database collation to SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS; our SQL Server 2000 server is case-sensitive.

My initial attempts to alter the database;

alter database RGDWDEV collate SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS

failed because of the presence of computed columns and user functions. So, I wrote scripts to save the definitions of the computed columns and functions, and wrote scripts to drop them. Now that they are gone, I expected to be able to successfully execute the above 'alter database' statement, but I am now getting this error;

Msg 1505, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
CREATE UNIQUE INDEX terminated because a duplicate key was found for object name 'sys.sysschobjs' and index name 'nc1'. The duplicate key value is (0, 1, DISB_ADJ).
Msg 5072, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
ALTER DATABASE failed. The default collation of database 'RGDWDEV' cannot be set to SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS.

I do not know how to fix this.

Can anyone help me?

thank you, beth

Parsing Error In ALTER DATABASE

Hi.

I'm very new to DB stuff. I've created a SQL Server CE database and I'm trying to implement a query notification using a SqlDependency object, as per the instructions at:

http://www.codeproject.com/cs/database/chatter.asp

I've connected to my DB using SQL Server Management Studio Express, and I'm getting the following error when trying to execute an ALTER DATABASE command:

I have no clue what I could be doing wrong. Is this operation supported using CE? Is there really something wrong with my syntax?

Major Error 0x80040E14, Minor Error 25501

> alter database GESim.Diagnostics set ENABLE_BROKER

There was an error parsing the query. [ Token line number = 1,Token line offset = 7,Token in error = database ]

Help appreciated...

SQL Syntax Error

Apr 7, 2007

Hi Guys, I'm hoping somebody can help me with this really frustrating problem that I'm having.......
 I'm developing a peer to peer file sharing application (final year degree project) in which I use a web service & sql database as the management server. For some strange reason, I'm getting an SQL syntax error on some machines but not on others when I call the method to submit a file list to the server (see below for code for the method). Another strange thing is that on different machines, I'm getting a different error. I've seen "incorrect syntax near 'd' ". and also "incorrect syntax near 've' ", while on two other machines it works just fine - It appears that the connection to the webservice and to the database is working just fine on all machines as before this method I have a login which works perfectly and the data is represented in the database.
Does anybody have any pointers or even the slighest idea what can cause an error like this or have seen anything like this before. Hoping to get this sorted pretty soon as the deadline is nearing. All and any help is very much appreciated!!!!
