Analysis :: MDX LastPeriods Not Working When Creating New Member?
Jul 20, 2015I have an issue which I cannot seem to resolve, what I need to do is to create a new member in an existing dimension which lets me filter the results of the last two weeks (this should start from last week, so ignoring the current week). I've tried a few approaches which seemed to have worked when browsing via excel, but when I tried using this in PowerView things were not right. I need a graph which shows the day on the Axis and then a single measure, with the filter being set to the last two weeks.
In management studio I got the following to work and show me the week, date and the measure:

Analysis :: MDX - Custom SET Excluding Unknown Member
Nov 21, 2008Uknown Member is set to "Uknown" in the cube . This cannot be changed because it needs to be visible in other applications. However, in my particular MDX I want to create a custom set that excludes this member.

With the above MDX, I still get a return for member "Unknown". I've confirmed that there isn't an explicit member name of "Unknown".Excluding [Dim].[Hierarchy].[Unknown] does not work either.
Analysis :: Building A Calculated Member Using Except Function
Aug 23, 2015I’m trying to build a calculated member (see below script) using “Except” function but I get an error result:
#Error The function expects a string or numeric expression for the argument. A tuple set expression was used.
My idea is to take a measure and exclude 2 members from the dimension.
I tried using “Aggregate” but got the error:
#Error Query (3, 1) Aggregate functions cannot be used on calculated members in the Measures dimension.
Please note that my measure is ACD that is already calculated average in olap and I can’t use AVG function instead of Aggregate. What can I do?

Hi,
I need to calculate the average of an existing measure of my cube.
The measure is PA_Salaire from a column of my fact table.
I would like to calculate an average i could use with all the dimensions of my cube but i think i can only create one linked to a single dimension. Is that true ?
I dont really understand the way i should write my request. Here is what i did:
(Manager is one of my dimensions, it has a parent child relation... is that a problem? does it change the way i should do?)
Avg(Descendants([Manager].CurrentMember, [Manager].[Name]), [Measures].[PA Salaire]
But that doesnt work at all i get the following result: " #VALUE! " for every manager

May 27, 2015I have a requirement to show the parent value which is passed and also all the leaf member details in MDX. For example in Adventure works, if I pass Bikes as the value in MDX, the results should display Bikes along with All the child member names as a measure value in SSAS MDX. I only have one hierarchy with Product Category-> Subcategory-> Product.
I am trying to use the following MDX but I am getting all the members. I need to get only Bikes in my report.

May 12, 2015I am setting up some security requirements - the requirement is that team leaders get to view all teams within their division. What I would like it to do when they log onto their dashboard/ssrs report is that it defaults to the team leaders default team (they can still select from other teams if they require).If I can avoid I don't really want another parameter in the report for this.
In my cube I have an attribute under the people dimension (where teams and division also reside) called Fee_Earner_Effective_Flag and where this is set to Y this is their current team.
Under the Role properties security under the Fee_Earner_Effective_Flag attribute I have set the Default member to
[People Primary FeeEarner].[Fee_Earner_Effective_Flag].[Fee Earner Effective Flag].&[Y]
When I then logon as the user and try to access the cube I get the following
Errors in the metadata manager. The '[People Primary Feeearner].[Fee_Earner_Effective_Flag].[Y]' security default member from the '{' attribute returns a result from a different hierarchy.
I have also tried setting the default member in the cube solution and then processing but then the cube failed.

I have a calculated member that composed of dividing two other calculated members. The calculation is incorrect and is ignoring the decimal places in both of the source measures of the equation.
Example:
Calculated Member 1 = 300.01
Calculated Member 2 = 10.25
Calculated Member 3 = (CM1 / CM2 ) = 30 INCORRECT!!!
Answer should be = 29.269
The MDX that I am using is as follows:
Calculated Member 1 (Booked Amount YTD):
Sum(PeriodsToDate([Fiscal].[Date].[Fiscal Year]),[OH Booked Amount])
Calculated Member 2 (Units YTD)
Sum(PeriodsToDate([Fiscal].[Date].[Fiscal Year]),[OH Units])
Calculated Member 3 (Booked Amount / Unit)
Measures.[Booked Amount YTD] / Measures.[Units YTD]
This seems like a fairly common and straight forward type of calculation, taking the YTD amount / YTD units to come up with YTD amount per unit. When I create a calculated member with the hardcoded values of 30.01 / 10.25 I get the correct answer of 29.269. Am I missing something with formatting? Is this a bug in Analysis Services?
Any help would be appreciated.

I created a Time table using BIS. I found that the default naming of time members is too long and redundant.
For example, the wizard generated "Fiscal Calendar 2015", "Fiscal Quarter 1, 2015", etc. However, shorter expression like "FY2015", "FQ1 2015", etc would be enough for me.
Is it possible to change the default naming rule, or does SSAS works correctly if I update the Time table values using SQL?

This_Year_Billable_Objective_Count, with its formula = BillableLastYear*(100+ BillableObjective)/100.
The first factor, BillableLastYear is a number, aggregated (sum) from child units.
The second factor, BillableObjective is a percent number (for example 28 means 28%), it's not aggregate. It's an dependent value for each unit.
How can I calculate This_Year_Billable_Objective_Count for each unit?

Analysis Services Archiving Is Working On One Server

I am able to archive the Analysis Services db's using the msmdarch on one server but not the other server. (It is working in the Test environment but not the Production environment.) Here are the details:
Both servers are SQL Server 2000 sp1.
I compared sp_configure and both servers have the same settings.
The Production server is clustered and the Test Server is not clustered.
I can archive in TEST using the following:
- From Analysis Manager
- Using the msmdarch command from a command prompt
- From a scheduled job using the "Operating System Command" Type from a job step entering the msmdarch command in the Command box.
- Using the msmdarch command with xp_cmdshell within Query Analyzer and from a Stored Procedure.
I can archive in PRODUCTION only using:
- From Analysis Manager
- Using the msmdarch command from a command prompt
** It does not work from a job or from Query Analyzer
I have checked the permissions of the SQL Server Agent account on both servers and they are identical with sa rights and a member of the OLAP Administrators group.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be causing this?

[MTMROR] measure has the aggregate function Sum. What i can get from this behavior is MDX is first aggregating the result and default aggregation function is Sum. When i try to see the value with more granular data by having the date dimensions on the row (un-commenting the date dimension) i get the correct log and exp log values. Its showing the correct value as date dimension is most granular level in the fact table. While trying to get the data at less granular level(Fund level), getting the sum function applied automatically.
If i set AggregateFunction to none in the cube structure, i get null as the output.
How could i apply the log function before the sum function in the [MTMROR] measure?

Apr 21, 2012I have 5 cubes, and hierachy defined for all cubes. for example:geography database with 5 continents as cubes and contries as dimensions.Now when i am doing security restrictions on my dimension ex: In USA dimension if i want only to give access to texas region then i should be able to see only texas cities. But i cansee all the states under USA even after selecting only Texas region under Dimension data tab inside ROles section in SSMS.I have tried security at database ,cube level as well as dimension level.But still not working.is that because of some wrong design of cubes or something related to database design.? I am not able to undersand that except roles everything in my cubes or datawarehouse is working fine without and defect in data.

Jul 28, 2015I am trying to compute average of Sales amount for 10 days and I am having an issue when using LAG function. Since weekends fall in between working days my LAG (10) function is also including weekends and hence I am not able to get the correct average.
For ex: D1 - 10 , D2 - 20, D3 - 30, D4 - 50, D5 - 10, D6 - W, D7 - W, D8-10, D9 - 20, D10 -30, D11 - 10, D12 - 40, D13 - W, D14 - W
I am using a sample script
SUM([Time].[Hierarchy].CurrentMEMBER : Time.[Hierarchy].Currentmember.Lag(9), [Measures].[Sales Amount])/10
When I use this and When my current member is D12 Then I am getting the value as 200/10 = 20 (from D12 to D3).
However ideally it should be 230/10 =23 (from D12 to D1) and lag should exclude D6 and D7 as it is a weekend.
I also have a working day flag in my time dimensions which says 0 for non working days and 1 for working days.

Jul 11, 2014I have created one Multidimensional CUBE, while browsing(Analyze in Excel) it in Excel, I am unable to create TimeLine Slicer.It is giving me following error as: "We can't create Timeline for this report because it doesn't have field formatted as Date".
I have Dim_Date having Date as a column of Day level granularity. In PowerPivot, we do mark Dim_Date Table as a 'Date Table'.In the same way, do we have to set anything here so that Excel will come to the Date format for TimeLine Slicer?
Perspectives Defined In Analysis Cube Not Working In Report Builder
Feb 20, 2007 I have created a simple cube in BI Studio against an Oracle Relational Data Warehouse. In this cube I have created a perspective in which I have selected (included) only a small subset of measures and dimension. When I view this perspective on the Browse Tab of BI Studio, only the entities that were included in the perspective were available for report construction as was expected.
Next, I generated a model for this cube in Report Manager. Now here is the problem, I then opended the model in Report Builder and selected the same perspective from above, but all of the Entities in the cube were displayed including the fields I explicitely did not include in the perspective. I then looked at the .smdl file describing the Model and it looked like in the Perspective description section all of the cube's entities were included, even the ones that should not have been included. It seems as if the problem is ocurring durring the model generation. I also tried generating the model in Management Studio and it seems to be doing the same thing.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Could I be doing something wrong(probably)? I have to give a presentation soon and this is a big deal for the Project Stakeholders.
By the way, I am using the 180 Day Evaluation of Sql Server 2005 with SP2 CTP installed.
