Analysis :: DAX Row Level Multiply First Then Sum Up In Total
Jul 30, 2015
I've got measure a in one table and measure b in another table and calculation a*b.
a b calc
2 4 8
5 2 10
SUM 7 6 18
How to get 18 as total instead of 7*6=42. I'd like to get row level calculation to sum up for the total level...

Problem setting is a geography dimension with multiple user defined hierarchies in SSAS 2008.
Ex.:
Hierarchy 1 (political territory): level 6 --> level 5 --> level 4 --> level 3 (state) --> level 2 --> level 1
Hierarchy 2 (sales territory): level 4 --> level 3 --> level 2 (sales region) --> level 1
...
Hierarchy 9
The relationship between state and sales region is n:1, i.e. one state belongs to exactly one sales region, and one sales region can consists of one or multiple states. Unfortunatly I can't define this attribute relationsship in the dimension because it would lead to a diamond-shaped relationsship without a user-defined-hierarchy to back it up. So far that isn't much of a problem, user don't drill down from sales region to state. But now I want to define a calculated member that multiplies a measure from the main measure group with another measure from a weighting factor measure group at the state level and above. The granularity attribute of the geography dimension in the dimension usage tab of the weighting factor measuregroup is the state.
So far what I've got is:
CREATE MEMBER Currentcube.Measures.[weighted measure state and above] AS NULL;
SCOPE (Measures.[weighted measure state and above],
Descendants(geography.[political territory].[all member],3,SELF_AND_BEFORE),
Descendants(geography.[salesterritory].[all member],2,SELF_AND_BEFORE),
... Descendants(geography.[hierarchy 9].[all member],1,SELF_AND_BEFORE)); this = sum(existing(geography.[political territory].state.members), measures.[main measure group measure] * measures.[weighting measure group measure]);END SCOPE;
This works from a functional point of view, but is rather slow when querying any other hierarchy than the political territory hierarchy, because SSAS first goes down from the state level to the key attribute of the geography dimension, and then aggregates from there to the sales region.In other words, I want SSAS to resolve the relationsship (which state belongs to which sales region) through the dimension, and not through the fact, and apply the calculation afterwards. Like some kind of currency conversion, but only from a certain level upwards.

I have a dataset with weekly salary of multiple employees of same grade from different dpt. We are not going to show the report based on employ. The report will be showing data based on Employee grade and their department.
Grade Dpt wk1 wk2 wk3 wk4
manager hr 3000 2500 1000 2000
senior hr 1300 1500 1300 1600
manager hr 2500 2300 2100 3000
We need to show the result by grouping grade and dpt. So the Wk1 rate will be the sum of (3000+2500).
Grade Dpt wk1 wk2 wk3 wk4 Total
manager hr 5500 4800 3100 5000 18400 (how to find???)
senior hr 1300 1500 1300 1600 5700(??)
Total 6800 6300 4400 6600 24100(??)
How to find the total for each row on the right most end ?

I have a requirement where I need to show the maximum value in grand totals but for the dimension members the same measure has to sum.
For ex: lets say I have a measure called Test and this is a base measure. The aggregation type set to this is SUM.
For this same measure the grand totals should not show the sum instead it should show the maximum value of the dimension members which is being analyzed across.

I have created cube. 1 fact table and few dimensions including dimDate
I need to create a calculated member for variance.
Variance = SUM([Measures].[Amt]) starting from financial year beginning(2015-04-01 to current date) -
SUM([Measures].[Amt]) for the same period last year(2014-04-01 to current date last year)
How can I create this calculated member?

I have a set of data and calculated already the average of a specific measure, incl. the Standarddeviation of this measure. Now I want to create a average measure of the values on row level which arehigher than [Avg]-[StdDev] AND lower of [Avg]+[StDev].As far as I understand I have to check on Rowlevel, which means on Date and Brand Level, if the value of the measure is above or lower than the Mean +/- StdDev.
SUM( FILTER( {[Dim 1].[Attribue].&[selected]},[Measures].[Fact Survey Count] > [Measures].[Mean + 0,5 StDev] AND [Measures].[Fact Survey Count] < [Measures].[Mean - 0,5 StDev] ),[Measures].[Fact Survey Count])
which leads to a wrong result. This one counts all rows if true.With Descendants I got a #Value-Error, probably because I did not understand how the calculations work. I planned to include this in a IIF calculation.
SUM( Descendants(
{[Dim 1].[Attribute].&[selected],
[Dim Date].[Date].[Date].CURRENTMEMBER}, Leaves), [Measures].[Fact Survey Count])

I have developed a cube in my work place for analyzing current year sales with previous year sales in Time Hierarchy (Year- Quarter- Month) using Parallel period. If we want to see data for particular Quarters i.e. Q1 and Q2 then total at the year level should also get change. Currently if we only choose 2 quarters in the filter then current year data gets change, however data using parallel period is not getting change accordingly and its shows Total of full year.

I cannot understand why Total of calculated member is displayed incorrect. How should I change calculated member for it to work correctly?
Calculated Member:
CREATE MEMBER CURRENTCUBE.[Measures].AverageScore
AS IIF([Measures].[Distance]<2001,0,[Measures].[avgscore]/[Measures].[Date Count]),
VISIBLE = 1;
It seems that Total is calculated without checking value in "AverageScore" for that month.

Case
Order 1 ProductGroup Value

C 40
Total 100
Order 2 ProductGroup Value
A 20

Let's have a table to show what I mean ...
As you can see I have added only one contract (for the sake of simplicity). At any given date I want to calculate the running total for a contract (all contracts), but the aggregation must take the contract state into consideration.
You can see my expected result for queries 1 - 3. That means, with the actual state ('B') I want to aggregate all values regardless of their state in the past.
For query 2 the state is 'A' ... I hope you can follow.
Now my aim is to aggregate all contract states for any given date with the right value. The past states of each contract are not relevant. And of course future ones (with respect to the query date) shall also be irrelevant.
Maybe the solution is a combination of 'LastNonEmpty' and SUM/PERIODSTODATE ...

Users in Excel need to see the totals of the line. Unfornately they have the bad idea to write in this cell sometimes and not in the leaf cells.
As there is some MDX code behind in the weight expression field, we got some weird values : one is negative and others ARe 10 times the initial value in the total. So it's very dangerous.
How can we block the writing in this totals cells ?

If user want to see the grand total for a measure with include all members, even though the user has limited access for that member, so how we can do using DAX?For example, let’s say the total revenue for all the divisions in a cube is $15,000. You create a role called “Division A”, and set it up so members of that role can only see the revenue for Division A, which totals $3,000. If you use a front-end tool like Excel to access the cube and use the division hierarchy to see the total revenue, you will see the revenue of $3000 for Division A, but also want to see the Grand Total for the revenue as $15,000How we can achieve above scenerio in tabular model (DAX).

At the 2nd level, the calculated measure will only be correct if it is Averaged. And at the 1st level, the calculated measure will only be correct to take these Average value from 2nd level and Sum then up together.
Level 1 Level 2
A
X1
X2
=================
(Avg of X1 + X2)
B
Y1
Y2
Y3
=================
(Avg of Y1 + Y2 + Y3)
===================================================
(Sum of (Avg of X1 + X2) + (Avg of Y1 + Y2 + Y3) )
Currently, Instead of summing all the 3 averaged value, it is averaging against all the items like,
(Avg of X1 + X2 + Y1 + Y2 + Y3)
My MDX currently looks something like that
[Measure].[Value] / [Dimension].[Attribute.count] -> so i can get the avarage at the 2nd level but it doesn't require on the 1st level but retaining this value.
How can i do an average on the leaf level and using these average values to sum at parent level?

Hello, I have a quick question. I'm currently using MS SQL 2005.
I have a main table which has many fields. I created a view#1 which imports all the rows
from the main table but I only select the "City" field, "PurchaseDescription" field and a
"Cost" field. Only the city name is unique. There are a total of 50 different city names,
and each name can have more than one "PurchaseDescription" each with an associated "Cost". I
would like to create a second view#2 with an added field called "Cost2". I want "Cost2" to
contain the same value as the "Cost" value. However if the "PurchaseDescription" equals to
"USB" then "Cost2" should be assigned the value of "Cost" multiplied by -1. If the
"PurchaseDescription" content isn't equal to "USB" then "Cost2" will have the save value as
"Cost".
For example,
The view#1 will have the following rows & fields (I had to pad the field with dots just to
make the output look viewable on this thread)
City..............PurchaseDescription.........Cost
--------------------------------------------
LA.................desk........................... ..4.5
LA.................USB............................ ..5.0
LA.................USB............................ ..6.0
SD................chair........................... ...4.0
SD................door............................ ..10.0
The view#2 should have the following rows and fields
City..............PurchaseDescription.........Cost .......Cost2
---------------------------------------------------------
LA.................desk........................... ..4.5....... 4.5
LA.................USB............................ ..5.0....... -5.0
LA.................USB............................ ..6.0....... -6.0
SD................chair........................... ...4.0....... 4.0
SD................door............................ ..10.0....... 10.0
I don't mind if I have to use functions or more than 2 views to solve my problem. I jus need
a final view that would look like view#2.
Could you please help if you can?
Thank you very much for your time and have a safe Halloween!

the fields above have the following datatype:
Fields | Datatype
===================================
GL_ID | Integer
GL_Name_VC | Variable Character
Amount | Integer
Period_TI | TinyInteger
Year_SI | SmallInteger
The above database is running on Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and i would like to query
for a report that looks something as below:
GL_ID|GL_Name_VC |Period_01|Period_02 |Total_YTD
================================================
1000 | Inventory | 8,000 | 2,000 |10,000
Percentage| 10% | 20% | 0
================================================
Total | 800 | 400 | 1,200
The Total row is calculated by multiplying the percentage row by the Inventory amount in
each Period.
Guys, hope someone out there can help me with the sql command for the above report?

Hi
I'm trying to find a decent way of multiplying a set of numbers in a column without using a cursor in T-SQL.
There is no 'Product' aggregate function that I'm aware of in SQL 7 or 2000. The workaround I'm currently using is this :
SELECT EXP(SUM(LOG(ColumnName))) FROM tblName
This works fine, except when negative numbers are introduced. The LOG function does not allow negative numbers and therefore returns a domain error and the negative number is eliminated from the aggregate.
I could use a cursor to do the multiplication, however, this is proving too slow for the bulk calculations involved.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, then that would be much appreciated.
thanks....Tom
