Is it correct to say that for each cube you can have only one Fact Table? I am having a funny dispute just now.Â
According my experience I never built cubes with more than one fact table, if I want take data from more than one table I write a view and I use it as Fact table...but a cube with two or three fact tables? Never tried..
I am working on a model where I have a sales fact table. Each fact record has four different customer fields (ship- to, sold-to, payer, and bill-to customer). I have one customer dimension table that joins to the sales fact table four times (once for each of the customer fields above). When viewing the data in Excel, I would like to have four hierarchies (ship -to, sold-to, payer, and bill-to customer) within Customer.Â
Is there a way to build hierarchies within my Customer dimension based on the same Customer table? What I want is to view the data in Excel and see the Customer dimension. Within Customer, I want four hierarchies.Â
I have a big table with several types of transsactions: PO (Puchase Orders, SO,( Sales orders), INV (Invoices) .... I want to create cubes with only one type of transactions (1 cube for PO,...)
Where and how can I filter the rows I want to use in my cube ?
I have  a large fact table about 500 million rows, and I am using 2008 r2, thus I am having the file system error, I have browsed online and tried all the fix , but I am still having the error . I tried taking only about year data (which was still around 200 million records) and  I was still having the error.
We have a sales fact table that has sales by customers, products, date etc. and dimension tables such as customers, products etc.
We built a multi-dimensional cube on top of these tables. how do we support queries like "show me top 10 products by sales amount and then show customers that didn't buy these products"?
I am modelling two fact tables of Actuals and Budget which are at different granularity, Actuals are at day, customer and product sub category level. Budgets are at month, Region and Product category level.
Month, Region and Product Category is present in Date, Region and Product Category dimension respectively. I have only three dimensions as Customer, Product and Date. Linking those dimensions to Actual Fact table is not an issue, what is the best way and options are there to link budget fact table to those three dimensions.
I am developing a BI solution on SQL Server 2008 R2 and how to handle multiple referances to the same dimension from a fact table!
Here is the scenario;
Fact_Contracts (# M) ServiceProvider_CompanyID, Client_CompanyID, Amount_USD Dim_Company( hundreds) ID, CityID, ProfessionID, CompanyName Dim_City ID, CityName Dim_Profession  ID, ProfessionName
As u can see there is two company references in my fact table, and the schema is in snowflake. My customer requirements state that the Contracts' amounts can be aggregated/filtered for/by, ServiceProviderCompany, its city/profession or ClientCompay, its city/profession.
First thing came in to my mind is to dublicate whole dimension structure (one for serviceproviders, one for clients), which i thought that there should be another way around?
I'm currently setting up a Tabular Model to do some research between several fact tables. Â In this example i have two fact tables (table 1 and table 2)Â which I've created a 1 to 1 relationship on phone number. Â Typically I create a relationship between these tables to find common data between the two. Â However, in this case I am trying to figure out the best way to model the data so that I can easily surface data from one table that does not exist in the other. Â I would liken this to a LEFT JOIN or a WHERE NOT EXISTS in SQL.
Table 1 has all of the data and Table 2 Only has a subset of the data from Table 1. Â What I'm trying to do here is display what attributes in Table 1 may play a part in records not existing in Table 2. What is the best way to model this?
I have a Fact table that contains several degenerate string values that I have pulled into a Fact Dimension.
When I browse the cube and cut one of the measures by an attribute from the Fact Dimension, I am getting incorrect data.
In other words, when I query the fact table directly via SQL and apply the same filters, I see the data I am expecting to see. But cube browse with same filters yields different results.
How can this happen since the fact dimension has a 1:1 relationship with the fact table.
I do have the Dimension Usage configured properly.
Is this an aggregation thing? Attribute key thing? What am I missing?
Say you have a fact table with a few columns that all reference the same key column in a dimension table, you want to write a view to return the information for those keys?
USE MyTestDB; GO SET NOCOUNT ON; IF OBJECT_ID ('dbo.FactTemp' ,'U') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE dbo.FactTemp;
[Code] ....
I'm using very small data at the moment, and the query plan and statistics don't really say which way.
I have a transaction table having about 40 crore rows in source. It don't have timestamp and unique key columns. It have only Bill_month and Bill_Year columns. Actually for loading this table into staging I have added a new datetime column by adding default bill_date as 01. Then
* First we delete last 3 month data from staging tables. * Get last 3 months data from source table. * Load that 3 months data from source to staging table.Â
We do this because we only get update for last three months data. Now I have to include this transaction table as Fact table in DW. What will be the best practice for loading the fact table by picking data form staging table. Also we have to look up with dimensions for Foreign Keys.Â
* Should I implement the same method of deleting last 3 months records and loading them again.Â
I want to move the SQL Server 7.0 root directory from C:MSSQL7 to D:MSSQL7 (same host). I see the startup parameters under server properties could be changed to point to the new location, but Master has the paths to all the databases recorded in sysdatabases table, so at least that would have to change, and sysdevices table points to files on C:. And maybe the NT registry points to some files there too. Anyway, is there some established method to move it? If that isn't practical, at least I would want to move TEMPDB ( perhaps by using the SP_DETACH and SP_ATTACH method ). My main database is already on D: so I do not have to move it. Any informed advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
I have heard from my client that they are facing duplicate data issue on one of the fact table.
Basically there is a view built on fact table and client access the data through the views.
There warehouse is loaded daily through SSIS packages. The duplicate records issue is only when the views are queried during the data loading process. The duplicates are gone when the data load is completed.
I had used lookup on DIM table to get my SUK and if I use union transformation to get the out put from each lookup and then loading the data with some condition the data in my fact is not loading in a proper format.
The union transformation is splitting the out put in to different records
Please do inform me about which transformation should be used to get the data from lookup tables.
Or please do inform me the approach to load the fact table in SSIS.
I€™m basically INFORMATICA resource and I€™m implementing in terms of INFORMATICA
I have a Fact Table with a ID column as Primary key and clustered index is created. And also I have 4 dimensions FK's of data type INTEGER. And finally, I have one aggregation measure in the Fact Table.
Now, my situation is How can I improve the speed of querying the fact table by creating any of the below indexes?
If I run an UPDATE query on a table which is partitioned by the column I am updating - will the records be moved to another partition?
ie. I have a table where Historical bit column marks whether a particular record should go to Partition1 (=0) or Partition2 (=1). Now, I update a record in that table and change the Historical column value from 0 to 1. What happens with that record?
I've got a dimension built from a fact (whatever that's called?) ... it's a date interval field, i.e. 0-5 weeks, 6-10 weeks 11+ weeks. How do I sort these members in the respective order? Looks like this currently:
The problem lies in the fact that I don't have any secondary attributes to order it by, i.e. it's not a physical dimension where I can use a key for the 3 members. I was hoping I wouldn't need to create a separate dimension to get round this.
I am facing issue with partition processing. I am having a SSAS cube which is having 5 partitions. These partitions are processed through a sql server job using SSIS packages. In packages I used SSAS process task to do this. Now problem is, job is running successfully and showing that the step which is having partition process also fine. But data is not updating in the partition. While checking the partition properties, it is not updated with recent date and time.
When I try to manually process the partition, it is getting succeeded and recent data is getting reflected with recent date and time.Package configuration is done in job itself.
I have developed some packages to load data into "Fact" tables in the data warehouse. Some packages are OK, other ones not. What is the problem?: some packages load fact tables with lots of "Lookup - Data Flow Transformation" into the "data flow task" (lookup against dimension tables) but they are very very slow, too much slow to be choosen as a solution.
Do you have any other solutions to avoid using "Lookup - Data Flow Transformation"? Any other solution (SSIS, TSQL and so on....) is welcome to speed up the Fact table loading process.
Hi Column with TEXT datatype is not stored in the same data row any way. I am wondering if there is any performance gain to put it in a seperate table. Thanks
I am modelling cube in SSAS. Cube has around 20 dimensions and 6 fact tables. Some of the dimensions are common among the fact tables. e.g. Time dimension. Fact_PNL has 3 date columns for those we have 3 role playing dimensions in the dimension usages.
Another fact table has 5 date columns for them as well we have separate role playing dimensions in dimension usage tab. We have a common dimension Company which is foreign key in all fact tables. We might need to combine the data from multiple facts to get final output.
Should i create 6 role playing dimension for each of the fact table or use the same dimension for all fact tables?
Role playing dimensions should be created when we have multiple columns pointing to the same dimension ?
I built my first tabular model and see that my fact tables are also appearing as dimensions. In Multi dimensional mode i could choose which are the dimensions. How do i do that in tabular model.
When you load the data into a new partition table, can it to done online without any downtime? because I have few tables that are around 250 gigs and more.
Hi, I use lookups to map surrogate of level 1 dimensions to my fact tables in SSIS. But how to handle a level 2 dimension with a ValidFrom and a ValidUntil date field? I do not use an IsCurrent column, because this could problem with late arriving facts.
- In dts I used an SQL statement like this:
update SA SET SA.DimProdRef = Dim.RecordID FROM SAWarenEingang SA, DimProd Dim where SA.ProduktNumber = Dim.ProduktNumber and SA.ArtikelkontoBewegungsdatum between Dim.ValidFrom and Dim.ValidUntil
Now in SSIS I want to handle the whole thing in the data flow without using a staging table: - Using Lookups: I would have to pass the date column for each inside the fact table into the lookup. That does not work. - Using Execute SQL in the data flow: would be very slow, because the statement will be executed for any line in the dataflow
I'm currently stuck with a table that has 350 mil records. Querying this table is insanely slow so I had a better look at existing yearly partitioning. I already managed to partition on a month level which increased the performance/querrying a lot. I did this on the staging table where I used an alter statement to split the 2015 partition by 12 months.
However, in our project we used Data Vault. This means that we have 4 tables (hub, sathub, link, satlink), all carrying 350 mil records. The problem is that altering the partition function does not work. The server cannot handle this action. What the best way is to do this, without having to drop/reload all tables.
hi all, is there any query to move certain data from a sql data to access table through query. i am having a requirement where i have to fetch the records from a sql table that falls within a specified range to a ms access table. is this possible through a query.
Okay, after I got everything imported, I found that a few thousand columns had "Shifted" on me. So now I am trying to "Shift them over" to where they need to be.
I did this: INSERT INTO dbo.TABLENAME (COLUMN_NAME_TO_BE POPULATED) SELECT COLUM_NAME_OF_INFO_TO_BE_MOVED FROM dbo.TABLENAME WHERE MFG = 'MANUFACTURER_NAME' AND PN LIKE '8888888888' GO
I populated the PN column with 8888888888 to use as a reference point, and the MFG column already was populated with the correct name, so I was using those as my unique reference points.
Other columns that have the same MFG name are correct, so I have to use two unique identifiers to specify the actual data that needs to be moved.
It inserted 'NULL' in the whole table after I ran it in the Query Analyzer. It appeared to disregard the WHERE statement all together Any ideas on what I am doing wrong here?
Is there a way to move the data from one column to the next one over by specifying other WHERE criterias?
