I need to create a calculated member for variance.
Variance = SUM([Measures].[Amt]) starting from financial year beginning(2015-04-01 to current date) -
SUM([Measures].[Amt]) for the same period last year(2014-04-01 to current date last year)
How can I create this calculated member?
I haven't a clue how to accomplish this.All the data is in one table. The data is stored by registration dateand includes county and number of students brokne out by grade.Any help appreciated!Rob

I have a requirement where I need to show the maximum value in grand totals but for the dimension members the same measure has to sum.
For ex: lets say I have a measure called Test and this is a base measure. The aggregation type set to this is SUM.
For this same measure the grand totals should not show the sum instead it should show the maximum value of the dimension members which is being analyzed across.
I have developed a cube in my work place for analyzing current year sales with previous year sales in Time Hierarchy (Year- Quarter- Month) using Parallel period. If we want to see data for particular Quarters i.e. Q1 and Q2 then total at the year level should also get change. Currently if we only choose 2 quarters in the filter then current year data gets change, however data using parallel period is not getting change accordingly and its shows Total of full year.

It seems that Total is calculated without checking value in "AverageScore" for that month.
I have a request for being able to show ordertotals for those orders that contains a specific productgroup.
Case
Order 1 ProductGroup Value
A 20
B 40
C 40
Total 100
Order 2 ProductGroup Value
A 20
D 40
Total 60
So if i slice OrderTotal by ProductGroup the result will be
A 160
B 100
C 100
D 60
ALL 160
how to solve this.
Let's have a table to show what I mean ...
As you can see I have added only one contract (for the sake of simplicity). At any given date I want to calculate the running total for a contract (all contracts), but the aggregation must take the contract state into consideration.
You can see my expected result for queries 1 - 3. That means, with the actual state ('B') I want to aggregate all values regardless of their state in the past.
For query 2 the state is 'A' ... I hope you can follow.
Now my aim is to aggregate all contract states for any given date with the right value. The past states of each contract are not relevant. And of course future ones (with respect to the query date) shall also be irrelevant.
Maybe the solution is a combination of 'LastNonEmpty' and SUM/PERIODSTODATE ...
I have a cube with a partition configures in write back.
Users in Excel need to see the totals of the line. Unfornately they have the bad idea to write in this cell sometimes and not in the leaf cells.
As there is some MDX code behind in the weight expression field, we got some weird values : one is negative and others ARe 10 times the initial value in the total. So it's very dangerous.
How can we block the writing in this totals cells ?
If user want to see the grand total for a measure with include all members, even though the user has limited access for that member, so how we can do using DAX?For example, let’s say the total revenue for all the divisions in a cube is $15,000. You create a role called “Division A”, and set it up so members of that role can only see the revenue for Division A, which totals $3,000. If you use a front-end tool like Excel to access the cube and use the division hierarchy to see the total revenue, you will see the revenue of $3000 for Division A, but also want to see the Grand Total for the revenue as $15,000How we can achieve above scenerio in tabular model (DAX).

Hi I am quite struggling to work out how to calculate profit in stored procedure.
The problem is
I have the table:
share name / transaction date/ is it buy or sell / no of shares bought or sold /total cost
I need to calculate how much profit was made on sold shares
The problem is that I need to always assume that you sell shares which were bought first first.
So if I have in chronological order:
tesco buy 50 £200
tesco buy 40 £100
tesco sell 55 £600
profit is
costtobuy of 55 shares: 50 shares at £200 + 5 shares at (£100/40*5 =)£12.50 = £212.50
profit = £600 - £212.5 = £387.50 (too good to be true)
my plan was (if it is too confusing please ignore it and just read the part above)
1 to work out no of shares sold and total cost of sold shares
so
select sum(no of shares) as nosold ,sharename where transaction = sell and sharename= @sharename return noofshares

now i need to loop through buys to work out cost to buy of number of shares sold:

I have a population of debitors, and I have been using profit charts in SQL server 2005 to decide which and how many debitors to contact in order to maximize revenue on my debitor portefolio. My question is: Is it possible to set the Revenue Per Individual to a dynamic variable(e.g. a percentage of the debitors debt) instead of a fixed revenue?

How can I get the value (pr_profit / pr_sales ) * 100, (cur_profit / cur_sales) * 100 for %profit. When I am giving zero devide error is coming . How can I give if pr_profit = 0 then % profit should be zero.

At first glance you would think that the following query would return the Grand Total for all communities in the management company:

But here's the problem. If there are multiple customer quotes created for different communites, then the customer(vcCustID) is only counted once in the Grand Total Query because I have to use DISTINCT, which of course only picks up one instance of the customer.

how to query to get result like this (date,sales,sum(sales last 7 day))
I'm thinking about using self join, but it means I must have to self join 7 times to get the total sales for the last 7 day. Is there any better way to do this? or maybe special function within MS SQL server.
note: i'm not looking for total sales per week group by each week, but total last 7 day sales for each day

Hi. I'm trying to calculate the total number of cases that more than 4 events. This is my query:

having count(defendanteventpros.vbkey)>4
The defendanteventpros table has a vbkey (primarykey) eventid (type of event) and an evetndate (when the event takes place).
What I'm trying to find is how many cases had 4 or more events and were received (eventid=2 from above) between 1/1/2007 and 12/31/2007.
I keep getting a big number that I know is not correct. I would appreciate any help anyone can offer! Thanks!

I need to get the number in stock, i.e. when instock=1 and the total i.e. when instock=1 or 0
But the problem is i'm only showing records where instock=1 so my SUM(case when inStock=1 then 1 else 0 end) AS stock statement is useless.
Whats the best way to do this

The (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM cte_Product) AS TotalRowCount is in there because I need the total row count that is queried by the CTE. But I feel like this is an inefficient way of doing this. I would just split out the query for the total row count, but then I have to do another sub query to get the rank again since rank is calculated using the Rank method. Does anyone have any ideas of how best to do this?
I have a table that writes daily sales each night but it adds the day's sales to the cumulative total for the month. I need to pull the difference of todays cumulative total less yesterdays. So when my total for today is 30,000 and yesterday's is 28,800, my sales for today would be 1,200. I want to write this to a new field but I just can't seen to get the net sales for the day. Here is some sample data. For daily sales for 6-24 I want to see 2,000, for 6-25 3,000, 6-26 3,500, and 6-27 3,500. I'm thinking a case when but can't seem to get it right.

I have created a Report using Visual studio-the report displays a subreport within it.
On the Subjective Report I have 12 values for each month of the year.
For the first month the value is =sum(Fields! Month_1.Value), and I
have named this text box SubRepM1
The name of the subreport is subreport1'.
On my Main Report, again I have 12 values for each month of the year.
For the first month the value is =sum(Fields! Month_1.Value)*-1, and I
have named this text box 'MainRepM1'
The name of the main report is 'GMSHA Budget Adjustment Differentials'
The report displays both of the subreport and main report values
but I now need to total these values together for each month in order to
produce a grand total.
I have tried using the following to add the totals for Month 1 together,
=subreport1.Report.SubRepM1 + MainRepM1
but this does not work and I get the following error message The value expression for the text box 'textbox18'contains an error [BC30451] Name subreport1 is not declared'.
I feel that it should be a simple matter of adding the two sets of values together but Im having major problems trying to get these totals to work.
