I want to perform a Analysis Services Processing Task using a connection manager created from a Analysis Services data source. I create the data source using the Oledb provider for Analysis Services 9.0, and it works fine. Then I create a connection manager using the "New connection from data source" option, and it seems to create it ok.
The problem is that I can't then asign this connection to the Analysis Services processing task. I get the error:
"Connection Manager MyConectionManagerFromDataSource is not a Analysis Services Connection Manager"
However, if I create directly a connection manager using "New Analysis Services Connection" it works fine.
Is it at all possible to create a Analysis services connection from a Data Source to perform a Analysis Services Processing Task?
Trying to go through the Analysis Services tuturial. Logged in as Administrator on a 64 bit W2K server. SQL Server 2000 AS and SP4.As I come to the Design Storage step I get a message sayingData source provider error: ; Time:2006-04-10 19:51:47There are no further details given and the Event Logger has nothing.Grateful for any help.Screenshot: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b366/biund/sql/DesignStorageproblem.pngAnd the version Screenshot:http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b366/biund/sql/DesignStorageproblem2.png
Our company is doing some basic research into using analysis services as a solution for our customers. I've taken our database and built an analysis services project in BI Studio and deployed it to Analysis Services on my local machine I connect to Reporting Services in Management Studio, create a folder for the cube, give my Windows user acct. Content Manager permission, create the Data Source (conn string = "Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Data Source=(local)SQLServer2k5;Integrated Security=SSPI;Initial Catalog=STI-PDB" -- copied from the Analysis Services project in BI Studio), and go to "Generate Model". What I get is an rsModelGenerationError, sub [Create Perspective From Cubes] with a connection issue at the base:
Either the user, <computername>Thomas, does not have access to the STI-PDB Database, or the database does not exist. () (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services)
Now, in the Database Engine, my Windows account has the db_owner database role for STI-PDB and it's default schema is dbo, which all the objects are created under. What am I missing here?
We have been a Crystal shop for ages; we are currently doing a proof-of-concept for a conversion to MS Reporting Services. As such, we are developing some Analysis Services 2005 cubes to drive some new SSRS reports, which our users will access through Report Manager. Unfortunately, we are all MDX noobs here, so we are making heavy use of the Wizards until we can come up to speed.
The problem we are running into is when we develop a report with Date Parameters. When we deploy this report, the date parameter box is a dropdown box instead of a date picker. I've seen a couple of other posts on this topic, but when I try to apply the fixes mentioned in them, I throw errors.
I have two quick questions:
Why does this happen? Is it a limitation in the MDX language, in SSAS, or SSRS? Are there any planned fixes? Can someone please show me how to fix this on my actual query string for one of our basic reports? I've highlighted the date parameters.
Code Snippet
SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[Lead] } ON COLUMNS, NON EMPTY { ([Store].[Store ID].[Store ID].ALLMEMBERS ) } DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION, MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME ON ROWS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOSET(@LeadSourceTypeLeadSourceType, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOSET(@StoreStoreID, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOMEMBER(@FromLeadCreationDateCalendarDate, CONSTRAINED) : STRTOMEMBER(@ToLeadCreationDateCalendarDate, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS FROM [Referral Leads]))) WHERE ( IIF( STRTOSET(@LeadSourceTypeLeadSourceType, CONSTRAINED).Count = 1, STRTOSET(@LeadSourceTypeLeadSourceType, CONSTRAINED), [Lead Source Type].[Lead Source Type].currentmember ) ) CELL PROPERTIES VALUE, BACK_COLOR, FORE_COLOR, FORMATTED_VALUE, FORMAT_STRING, FONT_NAME, FONT_SIZE, FONT_FLAGS
I'm afraid, given my user community, that if I can't get the date picker to work properly, it could be a deal breaker.
I am using sql server 2005 standard edition and i have installed MSXML core services 6 and also ADOMD.net for analysis services. i am using visual studio 2005 version of 8.0.5072742 and the problem that i am facing is when i use to develop reports using Analysis services as a data source , the error message pops up and VS 2005 gets crashed.
i could define the dataset , layout part and when i prees the preview , it gets crashed. could any one help me on this problem to sort out.
I have set up a report on reporting services and deployed it on a server. (server A) The data comes from 2 databases - one on Server A and one on server B
I can view the reports when logged into Server A, but if I try to view them from a networked PC I get the following message:
An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot create a connection to data source 'byvshs01'.
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
Byvshs01 is Server B.
However, if I remove the data from server B from the report, I can view it ok. So it seems you can view data from a DB located on the server that hosts the reports, but not if the DB is located elsewhere.
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)...The execution failed for the shared data set 'DataSet1'. (rsDataSet ExecutionError )...Cannot create a connection to data source ' Data source for shared dataset'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)...the above error message I get on the published report, but everything works fine when I do a preview in Visual Studio. How can I see exactely what is wrong?
As the title states I have a 64bit DSN but when I try to create ODBC datasource in Reporting Services it does not appear in the dropdown box. I have created as a system DSN.
We are running Reporting Services 2008 R2 on a Windows Server 2008 Standard 64-Bit server. I have a user that has full access to Reporting Services at all folder levels but IS NOT a local administrator on the 2008 server.
This user can create data source connections but when he tries to test the connection by clicking on the 'Test Connection' button, he gets the following error "The permissions granted to user <username> are insufficient for performing this operation.A user that has administrator priveleges on the server can test the connection fine.
I don't want to make this user an administrator on the server.
This is an extract from the log file:
ibrary!ReportServer_0-24!3478!08/16/2011-13:45:37:: Call to TestConnectForDataSourceDefinitionAction(). library!ReportServer_0-24!3478!08/16/2011-13:45:37:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user <username> are insufficient for performing this operation.;
I have set up a new connection as a connection from data source, but I cannot see how to use this connection to create my Data Flow Source. I have tried using an OLE DB connection, but this is painfully slow! The process of loading 10,000 rows takes 14 - 15 minutes. The same process in Access using SQL on a linked table via DSN takes 45 seconds.
Have I missed something in my set up of the OLE DB source / connection? Will a DSN source be faster?
I created a shared datasoure to point to a remote AS server, when I clicked "Test Connection" it succeeds.
I used the query builder to create an MDX query by dragging items from the cube, the results appear in the right hand paine when I do this which tells me that I am connecting to the cube successfully. I then finish the wizard which creates my report.
The problem comes when I click "Preview", I get the following error message:
An error occurred during local report processing. An error occurred during report processing. Cannot create a connection to data source 'SalesMartCube' A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
Why would I be able to see the query results in query builder but not when I preview the report?
I am trying to test a connection in Reporting Services to an Analysis Services 2000 database. I get a Test Connection Succeeded from one machine and I can't even select the databases in the connection properties on another machine. What can I look at that might be preventing one machine from seeing the Analysis Services Server?
I have a package where I need a dynamic connection string for an Analysis Services connection manager.
I have implemented this successfully for a Text data source, and a SQL data source, but the same approach does not seem to be working for an AS connection.
I set some expressions for the AS connection manager (ServerName, InitialCatalog, even the entire ConnectionString itself), but they don't take. I don't get any errors, but the task processes the cubes for the AS connection as it was established at run time. The design time connection string changes don't appear to get evaluated. This seems to be an issue only for AS connections.
I use Sql server 2005 standard edition in a 64 bit machine.I tried to create a SSIS project with an Analysis Services Processing Task. In connection Manager, the test connection succeeds but when I try to add the analysis services connection manager it gives following error.-The new connection manager could not be created,Exception from HRESULT: 0xC0010014 (Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSRuntimeWrap). This is a production server and we cannot reproduce this in other servers , so troubleshooting is difficult. This error appears when connecting to other sources like MS excel in Export task of Enteerprise Manager as well. Cubes can be processed manually without any problem.Pls give me a solution.
Today I was making a few reports. When I tested the reports in Visual Studio, they worked great: I got the expected result. But when I deployed the reports to our reportserver the problem started. When I click on the directory in which my reports are deployed, I got my 4 reports. Till now everything worked correct. But when I click on a report to view the results it went wrong. I got an error: "Cannot create a connection to data source 'Live'" (Live is the name of our data source).
We are using the Windows Logons and I am sure that I have all the rights on the server, I gave myself 'sysadmin' rights, so it should work. I also have tried it with all the roles assigned on my account, but then it still won't work.
When I modify the data source, and set it to another server en database it works. The datasource 'Live' exists on a x64 MsSQL server, en the other datasource is on a x86 MsSQL server. Maybe that is the problem?
1. As per my current development SQL Sever Analysis Database consists of two Cube (Cube A and Cube B). Cube A and Cube B share the same data source view (DSV1). The source for both these cubes has the same data source (DS1).
2. As per the requirement I need to create third Cube i.e. Cube C. Is it possible to create a second Data Source View (DSV2). The Source of second Data Source View (DSV2) will be the same data source(DS1).
I am thinking to create second Data Source View (DSV2) for Cube C because existing layout of the DSV1 has become complex. I wanted to know the pros and cons of creating a multiple data source view with same data source
I have deployed my SSAS project to an Analysis services database on a SQL 2014 server instance using the "Development" build configration in Visual Studio. In order to avoid users accessing the development instance of the cube, I've created an additional "Release" build configuration and deployed my project to a different database on the same server. I've also created a production copy of the data source and changed the data source configuration of the production cube to point to this one.
I've provided the same domain service account on the "Impersonation information" tab of the data source for both the development as well as the production instance of the cube. This account has also been granted identical permissions for both data sources. While everything works fine with the development database, processing the production database fails with an error message saying that it cannot connect to its respective data source.
I've created a SSIS Solution and have created Data Sources. I have two packages. One was created before the Data Sources, and one was created after. The package that was created after is using connections from the Data Sources. I want to change the package before the Data Soruces were created to use them, but when I right click in the Connection Managers pane "New Connection From Data Source.." is not an option.
We find that if we deploy the OLAP database with a different name on the test server, then regardless of how we change the connection string provided to the SSIS package that processes the cube, then the package fails to connect to the database. To clarify:
In development the OLAP database is called MyOlapDB and the source database is called MySqlDB. Both are on the same machine. When the the application is built and released for test, the test team install the databases on a replica of the production environment (i.e. web app on one machine, OLAP DB on another and SQL database on yet another). They also, quite rightly, implement the new test databases so they incorporate the build version number. So, MyOlapDB123 and MySqlDB123 are both from build 123.
This is when the problems start. Regardless of how the connection string is specified in the job that processes the cube, the SSIS integration package fails with the error:
[Analysis Services Execute DDL Task] Error: Errors in the metadata manager. Either the database with the ID of 'MyOlapDB' does not exist in the server with the ID of 'OurTestServer', or the user does not have permissions to access the object.
We have tried config files and job properties, but neither work. Also, simply attempting to run the package using the DTEXECUI does not work either.
Looking inside the XML of the package, we clearly see the ConnectionManager object which has the original connection string, which is
Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=MyOlapDB;Provider=MSOLAP.3;Integrated Security=SSPI;Impersonation Level=Impersonate;
However, editing the initial catalog here still does not solve the problem. Searching the XML for the string MyOlapDB reveals the OLAP database name in two other places - both within the object data of the two Analysis Services Execute DDL tasks.
Anyone know how to solve this problem without having to hack the XML of the package?
My requirement for the parameter is multivalue parameter with a text box. for example when user enters aa15 it need to include product aa15. when the user enters aa15, aa16, zz15 than it needs to include all the three products. the last case is when the user enters AA** than i need to inclued all the products start with AA. when i use default multivalue parameter with data source analytical services than i am getting a drop down box. I dont want that. I need a text box where user can enter the value. 1. In sql we have a like key word to query . for example select * from product where product like "AA%". what is equavalent mdx query to get such results ? 2.How to impliment the multivalue parameters without using dropdown box?
I am in between of creating a dynamic SSSIS package which will run for multiple zones having different source connection. My source is in Oracle.I am having 3 DFT with the 3 different source tables.I want to create a package with above DFT dynamically so that my single package can run for the entire zone with dynamically source connection change.I have created a Master table which stores the zone source connection string and zone name. I have 2 different connection.so if in future any new zones come so only newly zone details need to be add in master table without opening the package.
RE: XML Data source .. Expression? Variable? Connection? Error: unable to read the XML data.
I want my XML Data source to be an expression as i will be looping through a directory of xml files.
I don't see the expression property or the connection property??
I tried setting the XMLData property to @[User::filename], but that results in:

Was wondering if there was a best practice minimum permissions for creating a SQL login to use when setting up a new shared Data source for SSRS report manager?
Something along the lines of them being a data read for the DB and permissions to update tempdb?
Would have thought it not advisable to have the login be able to update the main db...
I have implemented a package to load multiple files to a destination. Since the source was a txt file, i have created as flat file source. However now we are getting files in excel format as well.
Is there anyway the source gets changed dynamically based on the file extension, output of the foreach file enumerator? I can think one solution to have 2 dataflow tasks based on precedence constraining and expression one is for .txt and other one is for .xls.
I have some questions about SQL Servers 2000 and 2005 compatibility. In my configuration I have to use both servers. The cubes are stocked in 2005 server. May I transfer from 2005 to 2000 Analysis Services the cubes?
If yes, what is the procedure? The result of migration is the same in the two different versions?
I need to use cubes in VS 2005 web project. I have no clue how to create cubes or use them in my web page. I am familiar with Reporting Services but not cubes. thanks in advance!
I am trying to create a Data Connection Library linking an SQL Database to SP2013. I have been unable to locate instruction or where in SP Central Administration to create the library. The option to Create Data Connection is not available.I am creating an InfoPath form to create-read-write-update data in the SQL database.
I am trying to view report that i deployed to reporting service but when i try to view it, it gives error:
An error has occurred during report processing. Cannot create a connection to data source 'INVC'. For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
For seting up the connection should we use Connection Manager or New Connection From Data Source?
The advantage of using Data Source is that we have the connection avalilable at project level but I've studied it somewhere that Data Source is used for SSAS not SSIS.
But I don't have enough explanation to give it to my team, that why I am not using Data Source.
We are working on VSS, do we have to reset the connection managers if want to test our packages on some other machine(else than the one on which it was developed)?
