Antivirus Scanning Of Files Uploaded Via Report Manager

Feb 12, 2008

For those who want to know the root of my question without any of the detail:

I want to know if there is any recommended way to detect and remove potential malware from files uploaded to SQL 2005 Reporting Services via the Report Manager.

Here's a general description of our setup and challenge:

We have a Windows 2003/SQL 2005 Enterprise Server as the reporting database server and another server running Windows 2003/IIS 6.0/ColdFusion MX7/SQL 2005 Reporting Services as the web server. The Report Server is only used internally, but has a potential user community of approximately 150,000. The actual community of users who would have access to the Report Manager would be much smaller.

In our environment, we have no way of ensuring that virus scans are being performed at all of the clients, so we need a way to make sure that files uploaded through Report Manager are all being checked as they are coming in to the Report Server.

Here's what we've tried so far:

We downloaded the Eicar A/V test file and verified that Report Manager has no problem accepting it as an uploaded files by default. The servers are running Norton AntiVirus Corporate 10.2 with the latest definitions and it did not detect the virus as it was being loaded in to the database.

Next, I setup Microsoft ISA 2006 in reverse proxy mode with Kaspersky's Antivirus for ISA. Kaspersky does not prevent a client from uploading the test file to Report Manager, but it does prevent the user from downloading it, so it seems that it only works with HTTP get operations and ignores HTTP put operations.

I have had Watchguard come in with a Firebox (an appliance that they claimed could A/V scan files), but it provided similar results. Files uploaded to Report Manager were ignored, but infected files downloaded were blocked.

I have BlueCoat, TrendMicro, and CheckPoint all on tap to come in and see if they can fare any better, but I am not holding much hope for this.

I know that SharePoint has an API that virus scanners can use (VSAPI) for scanning binaries stored within its SQL database. Is there anything similar for SQL Reporting Services? Is there any other way of preventing these files from entering the application?

Thanks for reading and any responses. I am happy to provide more details if it would be helpful.

SQL 2012 :: How To Show All Files Uploaded To Server By A User

Oct 16, 2015

In our new app, a user is given the option of uploading one or files to the server and saving the filename and path to the database.

We would like to display all files associated with a particular user.

Obviously, the code below is only displaying one file.

How to display all files associated with a particular employee?

select ROW_NUMBER()OVER (ORDER BY empID) as empnum , fName, filePath from Employee where EmpID='KF14170';

I might add the format of the file is empID plus the filename:

Example: KF14170Evidence1, KF14170Evidence2.

I have the next problem:
i have MS sql server 2005 installed in a server.
We have some olap cubes in the server deployed with analysis services 2005.
When we try to connect to the analysis server from a client pc using pivot tables we obtain this error:

The client pc has panda antivirus (corporate) with true prevent
When i unisnstall it, we can connect to the analysis server and to the cube normally and when we install the antivirus again (without true prevent and with the minimun options) the problem starts again and we can't conect to the analysis server.

Reporting Services :: SSRS Report Runs In Visual Studio But Not Report Manager

Jul 5, 2012

I have written a report visual studio.  The report has 10 multi-value parameters that pull data from their individual data sets within the reports.  When running the report from within Visual Studio it renders fine.  There are no errors reported, only a warning related to a pathname I have use to retrieve image data and display on the report.Deployment of the report is error free. When I view the report I briefly get the "Loading" splash window, but then nothing.  None of the headers or static text is displayed.  The results window is blank.

The report defaults all the parameter values.  In trying to debug the issue I have found by reducing the number of parameter values the report will render.  Once I have all the values added, the report does nothing.Below is the query being used for the report.  The where clause in the query shows the parameters being used and the syntax. We are running on Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2.

Ralph
SELECT RTRIM(a.ITEMNMBR) AS Style, RTRIM(a.ITEMDESC) AS Description, a.ITMSHNAM AS UPC, c.LOCNCODE AS Store, d.LISTPRCE AS ListPrice, a.CURRCOST AS Cost,

Scanning A Date Range

Aug 11, 2006

Hi all. Have a query and i'm really not sure how to approah it.

OK, I have two tables. In the first table (ABSENCE) i have three fields FROMDATE, UNTILDATE and TOTAL HOURS.
These field state the start and end date of an absence.

I have a second table (WORKPATTERN) in this table are stored etails of an individual workpattern.
It contains two fields DATE and HOURS. It stores each individual date in a workpattern and how many hours are worked on that day.
Obviously there are days missed in the work pattern (I.E. saturday, sunday and bank holidays etc).

What i need to do is work out the TOTALHOURS for a particlar absence. This means i need scan the range of FROMDATE to UNTILDATE.
If there is a matching date in the WORKPATTNT table i need to add the HOURS for that record to running total.

Not sure if ive explained it all that well. But any advice would be smashing. Thanks people.

Custom Security Extension - Report Manager And Report Server On Different Machines

Sep 19, 2007

Hi,

I'm trying to deploy Reporting Services on an Internet-facing web server using a custom security extension (forms authentication). We will be putting Report Manager on the Web Server outside of the firewall, and Report Server on another machine inside the firewall. When testing the solution in a development environment with Report Manager and Report Server on the same box, the solution works fine.

When testing it using the Internet-facing environment described above, it almost works but there seems to be an issue with the authentication cookie that is generated. Here's what happens:

1. User enters credentials on UILogon.aspx and submits form.
2. In the code-behind, LogonUser() is called through a web service proxy and the authentication cookie is returned successfully. The code used here to set the cookie is the same code used in the Forms Authentication sample that ships with RS2005.
3. The user is redirected to Folder.aspx, and the request hangs for a while, and eventually kicks you back out to UILogon.aspx, as if it lost the authentication cookie. When doing a trace on the HTTP header, the cookie is still there.

Is there anything special I need to do to make the Report Server "see" the cookie when I have Report Manager and Report Server on different machines?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Mike

Custom Assembly Behaves Differently In The Report Designer And Report Manager

Mar 18, 2008

Hello everyone,

I created a custom assembly using C# to transform some binary data into text, and in this assembly I used one win32 dll developed by our customer to help me to do the tranformation.
The code I used to call the win32 dll is like below:
[DllImport("tdasuie.dll", EntryPoint = "AlrtLogConditionToText",
ExactSpelling = false, CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)]
private static extern UInt32 AlrtLogConditionToText(Byte[] pbCondition, StringBuilder pszText, UInt32 dwSize);

I defined a C# method to call the above win32 method and return a string. Then in the report, I called this C# method to get the correct string.

In the report designer, the C# method in the custom assembly can return the correct string in the preview window. But after I deployed the report into the report server, the textbox will only display "#error" in the report manager web page.

Can anybody help me on it? Thanks a lot.

Danny

Report Builder Icon Is Not Showing Up On The Report Manager Home Page

Feb 1, 2007

HI, there,

I added a new windows user "ReportUser" which is a local user (not in administrator group). When I connect to the report manage's web page, I use reportuser to log in (when the anonymous access is disabled it will ask a log in). Report builder icon is not showing up on the report manager home page.

If I log in as a user in administrator group, the reportr builder icon shows up so I can download it and build report.

I have assigned reportuser "Content manager" and "repoter builder" access to the home folder. Is there anything else I have to do to make the report build icon show up on the home page?

Thanks

SSRS Report Generator Hangs On Execution In BIDS And Report Manager

Apr 29, 2008

Hi,

I'm encounter lately some weird behaviour of SSRS in BIDS as well as after deploying on Reporting Server.
I'm running basic classical SQL SSRS Reports with Oracle DB connection. My reports have header and footer pagination and well defined report layer configuration. All the reports are simple based on one table and some basic parameters passed to query.

In query builder from BIDS from data tab, the query is running fine without any other execution delays. Also the query is runnign fine in PL/Dev environment.
When I switch in "Preview" mode the report hangs in execution and just showing "Report is being generated" without any resuts. After a while is generating an execution error (after 20 min).

The behaviour is the same after deployment on Report Server .
I now...here it comes...the problem is intermitent...some times the report is working...but most of the times it hangs on execution.
I checked the report from top to bottom and nothing's wrong from design perspective.

On other reports I don't have this problem and I don't understand where to start to investigate.

Any suggestions...I'm stuck here.

Thanks

Deny Builtin/administrators Full Access To Report Services Report Manager 2005

Apr 14, 2008

I need to prevent domain and local administrators from having full control over our report manager. (I want them to be assigned permissions just like everyone else, some reports they can see other reports they can not.)

How can I accomplish this? I tried going into Report Manager -> Site Settings -> Configure Site Wide Security and re-assigning BUILTINAdministrators to the System User role instead of the System Administrator role. (A different set of report manager admins was given the system administrator role).

However, it appears that members of the BUILTINAdministrators group still have full control in Report Manager.

Creating Report Folders And Report Manager After Fresh Install

Oct 31, 2007

New ssrs istall. I think they loaded sp2. It's a cluster, but ssrs was not clustered (I think)

When I attempt to open report manager, i just get

SQL Server Reporting Services
Home

with no option for creating a folder etc, like i have on development

When I attempt to deploy to ther server I get :

Deploying to http://amsqlclusterxx/reportserver/
Error rsItemAlreadyExists : The item '/Retailer' already exists.

How do I create an ssrs reports folder?

Also, and this is strange, but in vs.net I had to create a new shared datasource after removing the old one on the report with the same name. The report renders fine when I do an f5 pointing to a new datasource, but I no longer have the RUN "!" icon available while in the data tag to run my query. Why is this?

Thanks for any help or information.

Scanning Many SSIS Packages For A Particular Property?

Jan 14, 2015

I have a pile of around 50 packages (*.dtsx files) or so, and we have found that not all of these packages are set to have the critical bits fail the package on failure of the critical bits. This gets to be slightly annoying when there is a job of some 20 or 30 packages running, and one of these fails and the rest of the job runs along as if nothing (bad) happened. This leads to having to hunt down what failed, diagnosing why it failed, and then re-running the parts that failed in different and inventive ways after the unhandled exception.

So far, I have broken open a couple of the offending SSIS packages in notepad, and the string "FailPackageOnFailure" appears in a number of places. Unfortunately, due to the fact that some of the packages have Sequence Containers that hold some of the SQLTasks (all of the "critical bits" are SQL Tasks, I believe), and this changes the XML path to the parts that I want to scan. This leaves me with the prospect of opening each package, wait for the package to be validated, going to the SQL Task in the package, right clicking for the properties of said SQL Task, and finding the Fail Package on Failure bit (OK, more likely I will delegate that task to some poor schmuck, but I promise I will feel some regret over it).

Is there any such way/script/tool anyone knows here . Please share your experience.

Deploy A Report Model Using Report Manager

Feb 13, 2008

I have a report model that I am trying to deploy using report manager web service. A folder is created by the administrator to place all my SSRS reports. I deployed .rdl files using the "Upload file" function in "Report Manager". All the SSRS reports work fine but when I tried to upload .smdl file (report model file) using the Report Manager's "Upload file" function it gave me the following error message.

The permissions granted to user 'xxxxxxman' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)

Does this mean I only have permission to upload .rdl file but NOT .smdl file to my designated folder?

Can I Alter A Report That Has Already Been Deployed To My Report Manager

Jan 23, 2007

I have some OLAP reports in which I have to alter the MDX statements each month, in the VS2005 report designer. They are deployed to the web and they contain Descriptions and Subscriptions which I create once they get to the web. The way I am currently updating them each month is by editing the reports in VS2005 and re-deploying them to the Reports Server. I then have to add the descriptions again and create new Subscriptions because the orig reports are deleted when the new ones, with the same name are deployed. There has to be a way that I can just alter the existing reports in the web environment and not have to recreate the Subscriptions each month. Any help would be appreciated.

Report Title In Report Manager Subscription

May 9, 2007

Hi,

Is there a way of passing a default parameter value into the subject title on a report subscription?

Currently there are std global variables i.e. @ReportName was executed at @ExecutionTime, but what other variables can be passed here to make it more relevant to the recipient?

Thx
