Any Easy Class Method To Update About 100 Fields Of A Database Using Stored Procedure?

Hi all,

 I am using  C# for ASP.NEt 2003.

I would like to know if there is any easy method to update a database with about 100 fields in it.

At present, I pass all the values of the controls on the web form to the stored procedure as parameters like :-

myCommand.Parameters.Add("@CustomerID", SqlDbType.Int).Value = txtCustomerID.text

Like this,  I add all 100 parameters.

Is there any easy method to do it using a class or any other methods?

Quick And Easy Question, Sql Update Method . . .

I am new to Sql, so I think this is a really easy question.
But I am working on a 2005 MSSQL database. 
When I add columns to an existing application with data and tables already being used, and the new column will be set to Database Null.
What is an easy way to quickly add the data to all the rows in the table.
For example if I am adding a checkbox, I've been doing it manually, add the column, change all the rows to False, one by one.
And then I can change it to Disallow DBNull.
As I get more and more users this could be a very time consuming process.
 
So the name of the Table is classifeds_Ads and let's say the column I want to add is Bonus and it needs to be filled with False.
How do I do this???

All values are ok, except for the DateTime value. What am i doing wrong here ? Am wondering if its the date size of 50 I put there or what ?

I ran into something interesting this afternoon as i was trying to create a stored procedure.

I get an error: incorrect syntax near the keyword 'Order'
It seems that by adding those two ( ) i get the error... does anyone know why this happens or a way to make it so that i can keep those beloved parentheses?  Furthermore.. why does the error only pop up when i have those in?  THanks

Hi,Plz, I need some info (SQL2000) :)A stored procedure is like this:"Select table1.id, table1.txt, (select table2.nr from table2 wheretable2.fk_table1=table1.id) as nr where table1.id<>10"The essence here is that "select table2.nr from table2 wheretable2.fk_table1=table1.id" returns either the integer in table2.nr, or NULLif there isnt a match. The whole sentence runs EXTREMELY slow...3-4 sec.What is wrong?"select table2.nr from table2 where table2.fk_table1=table1.id" runs quicklyoutside the stored procedure. The original sentence without the "nr" (Selecttable1.id, table1.txt where table1.id<>10) runs quickly too...But together it slows down dramatically..why? This is the example to create a dataset for Dropdownlist,

This way doesn't work for triggering the stored procedure for updating database
How to trigger the stored Procedure for updating the database in the code?

Hi,
 I just have a Dataset with my tables and thats it
 I have a grid view with several datas on it
no problem to get the data or insert but as soon as I try to delete or update some records the local machine through the same error
Unable to find nongeneric method...
I've try to create an Update query into my table adapters but still not working with this one
Also, try to remove the original_{0} and got the same error...
 Please help if anyone has a solution

I have two different datasets

Dataset 1: i have field named CountLastWeek. Its having count based on some condition

Dataset 2: field with CountLastDay.Its too having count based on some condition

For e.g :Report shud look like this:

Count LAst DAy CountLastWeek Total

2000 1000 3000 (Total of CountLastDAy and CountLastWeek)

Now, I have problem is that my both the fields r in different datasets so i m unable to calculate Total.

Plz suggest me how to do?

Class Method Is Smoking Fast When Executed Outside Of SQLServer, Dog Slow As A CLR Function Is SQLServer - Anyone?

We have a static class that makes an HTTPWebRequest to get XML data from one of our vendors. We use this as input to a stored proc in SQLServer2005. When I compile this class and call it from a console application in visual studio it executes in milliseconds, everytime. When I compile it, create the assembly and clr function and execute it in SQLServer, it takes around 14 seconds to execute the first time, then on subsequent requests it is again really fast, until I wait for 10 seconds and re-execute, once again it is slow the first time and then fast on subsequent requests. We do not see this behavior when executing outside SQLServer. Makes me think that some sort of authentication is perhaps taking place the first time the function is run in SQLServer? I have no idea how to debug this further. Anyone seen this before or have any ideas?

Passing Fields As Parameter Of Stored Procedure

Does anyone know how to pass a list of fields into a stored procedure and then use those fields in a select statement. Here's what I'm trying to do.

I have a front end application that allows the user to pick the fields they want return as a record set. Currently, all this is being done in the application. But, I'd like SQL to do it, if it's possible.


I'd pass the following into a stored procedure.

Set @Fields = "First, Last, ID" -- This is done in the application

Exec usp_return @Fields

Obviously, the following fails stored procedure doesn't work ...

Altering Column Fields With A Stored Procedure

I have some columns of data in SQL server that are of NVARCHAR(420)format but they are dates. The dates are in DD/MM/YY format. I want tobe able to convert them to our accounting system format which isYYYYMMDD. I know the format is strange but it will make things easierin the long run if all of the dates are the same when working betweenthe 2 different databases. Basically, I need to take a look at theyear portion (with a SUBSTRING function maybe) to see if it is greaterthan 50 (there will not be any dates that are less than 1950) and ifit is concatenate 19 with it (ex. 65 = 1965). Then, concatenate themonth and day from the rest to form the date we need in NUMERIC(8).So, a date of January 17, 2003 (currently in the format of 17/01/03)would become 20030117. I am using Stored procedure :

While using the above stored procedure, when i bind it with Dataset. The fields corresponding to table1 are displayed in the Fields Tab of the Dataset whereas the Fields corresponding to table2 are not displayed.
Please help me out .

C# Stored Procedure Processing Binary Data To Sql Fields

In the code sample below, case eLABEL, eENGUNITS works ok. The target SQL field is defined as varchar(50).

The second section is not so happy. It is attempting to write to an SQL field defined as binary(2)



Executing an SQL script to excercise this line results in error:


System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'foreign'

where 'foreign' is the name (FieldDef.sFldName) of the SQL field being written.



The c# code composes the following command:

Stored Procedure - Update Statement Does Not Seem To Update Straight Away

Hello,

I'm writing a fairly involved stored procedure. In this Stored Procedure, I have an update statement, followed by a select statement. The results of the select statement should be effected by the previous update statement, but its not. When the stored procedure is finish, the update statement seemed to have worked though, so it is working.

I suspect I need something, like a GO statement, but that doesnt seem to work for a stored procedure. Can anyone offer some assistance?

Is it possible to execute a stored procedure in one database, which thenitself executes a stored procedure from another database? We have decide tosplit our data into a tree structure (DB1) and data blobs (DB2) (we areusing MSDE and we have a 2gb limit with each DB so we've done it this wayfor that reason). I would like to, say, execute a stored procedure in DB1,passing in the data blob and other details, DB1 will create a tree node inDB1 and then add the blob record to DB2. DB1 will wrap in a transaction ofcourse, as will DB2 when it adds the blob. Is this possible?

Help Needed : Not Able To See Fields Value When Creating A Report By Calling A Stored Procedure

Details :
Reporting Services 2000, SQL 2000 database, Visual Studio . Net 2003

In Report Design view

In "Data" tab, I can see records for column 'sRCName' returned from the stored procedure(usp_GetRouteCodeData) after clicking '!' icon. When I moved to "Preview" tab, I am getting below error message.
"The value expression for the textbox €˜sRCName€™ refers to the field €˜sRCName€™. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current data set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope."

Observation : there is no value returned from the dataset on 'Fields' panel. The SP is accessing a table called tblRCM.
If I go to the Data--> Dataset --> Query, change the "Command Type" from 'Stored Procedure' to 'Text' and entered
select * from tblRCM at Query string area, the report is running fine.

Issue: This issue only happens at my laptop, my team member can create the same report using the same stored procedure without any error. The database is sitting on a server.

In the troubleshooting process, I tried to create a simple report by calling a stored procedure(CustOrderHist) from NorthWind DB in my local SQL server, I am able to see the data/value in 'Fields' panel and sucessfully view the data in 'Preview' tab.
Looks like the issue only happen on my machine, for a report that using stored procedure to access a DB sitting on a server.

I hope to hear from anyone who have encountered the similiar issue before, or, have any clue to resolve the issue.

System Stored Procedure Call From Within My Database Stored Procedure

I have a stored procedure that calls a msdb stored procedure internally. I granted the login execute rights on the outer sproc but it still vomits when it tries to execute the inner. Says I don't have the privileges, which makes sense.

How can I grant permissions to a login to execute msdb.dbo.sp_update_schedule()? Or is there a way I can impersonate the sysadmin user for the call by using Execute As sysadmin some how?

Looking For Easy Way To Update W/o SQL Statements

My manager is interested in knowing if there is a way to update our website's SQL database using a method with excel, similar to importing.

The person who was previously in my position had imported a few hundred new products into the database with an excel spreadsheet.

Now, we would like to make updates such as a price changes or similar adjustments to a number of the products in the database. We could use a web interface, but ours requires us to find each product individually and it takes too much time. I told him that it would probably be necessary to write an SQL statement to update the tables, but we're also interested in maintaining the integrity of the database and are worried about loosing data due to a typo. Is it possible to export the db contents to an excel file, make changes, and then merge those changes into the existing database? I have tried and failed, so I am wondering if any experienced users could help me out.

Also, is there some kind of phpmyadmin for MS SQL? A free, open source alternative would be best.

Can someone walk me through the code for my update_command event?Every article I read and every tutorial I walk through has a slightly different way of doing this task.It's confusing trying to understand which code-behind variables I need in my update_command event and how to pass them to a stored procedure.

Update To Stored Procedure

hi
i have 2 columns linked ( 1 to a textbox and the other to drop down list)
when i try to update i get 1 of the to the update SP but not the other and get this error
Procedure or Function 'Update_ActiveCity' expects parameter '@Cities', which was not supplied.
