Anytime I Connect To An Excel File From SSIS05, I Start Getting Endemic System.outofmemoryexception Errors And Cannot Save
May 26, 2006
This is my error text... how do I get this nonsense to stop?!

Hi, My server configuration is Intel Xeon(R) X5355 @ 2.66GHz, 3.75 GB RAM Win 2k3
I have been receiving the above mentioned error when I try to use the out of the box feature of "Export To Excel" provided in the Reporting Services, the reports are hosted on MOSS 2007 using the Reporting Services Add-In. The number of pages generated by the report is 500+, so I don't think exporting a report of around 500 - 1000 should give out a memory exception since we have sufficient RAM on the server.
I am trying to load a XML file into a string variable using a XML Task. The file is 67,936 KB. When I excecute the package in the dev environment I get the following error:
[XML Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.".
Has anybody run into this before? In the next step I pass the XMLData string to a stored procedure which loads it into a table with a XML data type column.
I use the DTS 2000 Migration Wizard to migrate one of the DTS 2000 packages to SSIS. The migration failed with the following error message:

Looking at the call stack, it looks like COM wrapper fails on SaveToXML. Can someone tell me how I should workaround this problem?
Hi I have an issue while attempting to clean/build my Integration Services solution which prevents me creating my deployment SSIS deployment package. The solution comprises of around 73 packages totally a physical file size of 103 MB. Most packages are ~1/2 MB with a ~1/2 packages around the 4/5/6 MB I cannot seem to clean or build/rebuild the solution as I keep getting the following exception message Error 1 Error loading €˜PACKAGE_NAME.dtsx' : Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.. C:FOLDER1PACKAGE_NAME.dtsx 1 1 This randomly occurs with different packages but the commonality is it occurs with the package above 4MB. My workstation has Windows XP Professional with SP2 and 2GB RAM and Visual Studio 2005 with SP1 and SQL Server 2005 with SP2. A look at task manager in Windows shows the devenv.exe process to be ~675MB when the above exception occurs. There are no other applications running in the background. Can anybody kindly suggest any possible resolutions or any known fixes for this problem? Maybe the possible to build SSIS packages from a command prompt? Many Thanks in advance
when I´m trying to save a SSIS Package in Visual Studio I´m having the following problem:
=================================== Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown. The dtsx is around 8MB size, I have installed the service pack, what else could be?
I would like to create a SQL job that runs a basic query monthly and saves the results as a .xls file and emails the results to a user. I've been unsuccessful with sp_send_dbmail in that the output file is always a single column. Any suggestions?
Recently upgraded SQL Server 2005 x64 to SP2 and upto Build 3159. Since then the Maintenance Plan for Index Reorgs has failed with a System.OutOfMemoryException error. No other errors are logged anywhere. The plan report file has no information either.
I have a large package (I know the recommendation is to have one package per data flow.) It has 20+ data flows in it. Personally I have found it much too complex to manage dozens of packages just because I want to have more than one data flow in my package.
I have been working on this package in an iterative manner over the past several months. Recently, I noticed I started getting the error message: "Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown" when I went to save my package. This is _extremely_ frustrating, because when this happens, all the changes I have made are generally lost. Occasionally, I have noticed if I close some other BIDS windows, or just wait a bit, I will be able to click save again, and it will actually save. Usually, I am forced to just "end-task" Visual Studio.
Other than splitting the package up into 20 separate packages, is there a way around this problem? I would rather put up with the lost changes than switch to dealing with 20 separate packages. It just makes things to difficult to manage when everything is split up into so many packages - particularly when I am passing variables around from parent to child packages.
Hi everyone, sorry if this message is not supposed to be posted here. I'm learning asp.net , and would like to know how I can insert data from a excel file into a database on my web account. Pretty much insert/update information in the database using excel file or a access file. Thanks a lot in advance
When running the package in VisualStudio it runs properly, but if I let this package run as part of an SQL-Server Agent job, I got the message "The script threw an exception: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown." on my log and the package ends up with an error.
Both times it is exactly the same package on the same server, so I don't know how the debug or even if there is anything I need to debug?
I used file system watcher to read excel on my pc it worked fine, but when I tried to read the excel from SharePoint it did't work. The FileWatcher box showing the yellow color for long time that I had to stop the ssis.
So my question what is the cause of this. Do i need to set something or am i missing something? Please help.
In Management Studio i highlight my query and then click on 'Analyse query in Database Engine Advisor' but i get the following error message: "Failed to connect to an IPC Port: The system cannot find the file specified". Seems like if I reboot my computer it works one time then get the same error on the second time.I'm running developer edition with service pack 2.
I have a 400MB Excel file that I consume from another automated process (don't ask). I copy this file down locally to my server, and I am attempting to create an SSIS package that points to this file via a connection manager. My computer starts gobbling up massive amounts of memory (devenv.exe gets up to about 800MB or so, then drops back down to 100MB) even when I attempt to rename the connection in the connection managers tab.
I have set all BypassPrepare to TRUE and ValidateExternalMetadata properties to FALSE, and still it can take up to 3 to 6 minutes for BI Dev Studio to respond. My specs:
Intel Centrino Duo 2.00 GHz 2GB RAM XP Pro SP2
There MUST be a way for me to work effectively on a file of this size. Please help! Thanks much for any assistance.
When I create/alter a store procedure in SQL Server 2005, SQL server always checks for syntax errors first and won't let me save the change if it detects any error. Is there a way we can force the SQL server to save the store procedure that fails the syntax check?
I know SQL server will allow such invalid store procedures if you detach & re-attach the entire database from one SQL server to another server. However, if I try to manually create the same store procedure from one server on a different server with a script, then it won€™t let you save the store procedure if the linked server (or the table) can€™t be accessed from the new sql server.
Lately, I have been experimenting with SSIS and I created a generic custom error logging component that saves all offending data on data flow component failure. However...
Instead of re-directing rows at the data flow level and handling/logging the data at that level, is it possible to catch all of this information at the package level and handle/process it there?
I am using bcp to get the query output in excel file. But I am not able to see the column headings. Is there a way to get the column heading also in the output file.
the command I am using is this.
declare @x varchar(300)
set @x = 'bcp "select * from Northwind..orders" queryout c: est.csv -S local -U sa -P passwd -c -C RAW -t "," -r '
I have the Excel Connection Manager and Source to read the contents from an Excel file. For some reason couple of numeric fields from the Excel worksheet are brought over as nulls even though they have a value of 300 and 150. I am not sure why this is happening. I looked into the format of the fields and they are set to General in Excel, I tried setting them to numeric and that did not help.
All the other content from the excel file is coming thru except for the 2 numeric fields.
I tried to bring the contents from the excel source to a text file in csv format and for some reason the 2 numeric fields came out as blank.
Any inputs on getting this addressed will be much appreciated.
Hello, I made an Oracle query like SELECT ID,PARENTID,NIVEL FROM EQUIPO START WITH NIVEL=0 CONNECT BY PRIOR ID=PARENTID is there a way to made the same query without using the Oracle START WITH and CONNECT BY PRIOR statements? thanks and regards Marko
I want to tell to user about SQL Server Configuration Manager and wants to allow him "START / PAUSE / STOP" for SQL Server Express in system Tray. It is easy for the end user who don't know SQL Server.
We are going insane trying to start Report Manager on a SQL Reporting Services 2000 installation. The programmer/admin who originally set this up for us is gone.
We recently upgraded a database/application server to a new server, causing the data source being used by reports in reporting services to no longer be valid. Unfortunately, we do not have access to the original report project to 're-deploy' with the corrected data source.
We desperately need to get the reports that are installed to retrieve their data from the new database location/machine. We understand this can be done by specifying a new data source in Report Manager. (To clarify, we have NOT moved the report servier installation or database, these remain in place - it's just the deployed reports that no longer point to the correct data source.)
For some reason, our Report Manager will no longer run - when we try to launch it, we get a windows login dialog - nothing will work here. We've tried both local and domain admins and constantly get ACCESS IS DENIED 401.3 error messages that we do not have permission/problems with ACL's.
We've gone so far as to allow EVERYONE read/write access to the ReportManager and ReportServer folders and the RS virtual directories, but nothing seems to help.
Can anyone help with this? Ideas on how to change our data source, or how to get back into Report Manager?
Since we are somewhat technical, but not experts, and don't have much more time to waste, we are willing to pay $500 for this project to someone willing to access the server and fix the problem so that the reports point to the correct database and restore access to Report Manager.
I've seen a similar post here, however my situation is different.
While I am connecting to SQL server 2000 EE from a different client machine using Query Analyzer it gives me the following error message .
Unable to connect to server > Server : MSG 18452 Level 16 state 1
[Microsoft ODBC ][SQL Server Driver][SQL server] Login failed for user '(null)' Reason , not associated with a trusted SQL server connection.
I can connect to two other SQL servers in the same domain just fine with QueryAnalyzer. The machine that I cannot connect to is also my PDC. It is running Win2KSP4, the client is WinXPSP1. I've added and removed the machine from the domain (at my wits end) just to make sure the accounts are not cached. This is the only computer I'm having these client problems with, no matter who logs in.
Is there anyway to  send excel file from ssis using send mail task without saving the excel file locally. I need to automate the process which involves loading the excel file from the database and send it to some people.Â
I am working on constructing a software layer around some features of the RDL language that would allow me to programatically generate reports.
I am reading the RDL specification language, and I do not understand three things:
1) How the DataSet element is populated by the query or more precisely how do the <Field> elements capture all the rows inside the table that is being queries?
To my understanding I wilkl have to define several fields that correspond to all columns of interest in the query.
But that is only for one row (?!) How do the rest of the rows get populated? Does the server recursively create new rows based on my definitions until it matches row for row all the data in the table?
2) Once the elements are inside a DataSet how do make use of that data to render it in a table.
I understand how the DataSource, DataSet, and Table work individually, yet I do not understand how to establish a flow of data between DataSet and Table.
3) Do I even need to use a <Table> as an RDL element in order to organize the data in an excel table?
Is it possible to manually force/call/start the system AUTOSHRINK process? I have an issue that appears only when the engine shrinking process is running and I need this to reproduce my bug.
I know how to start a "regular" database shrink process with:DBCC SHRINKDATABASE(xxxx);, but this is not the same as one started from the database engine.
According to the help for SSIS, one method of deploying an SSIS package to a SQL Server, http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms137565.aspx, is to use the File...Save a Copy of <package file> as... menu option.
I don't have that menu option at all. And yes, the package is in focus. My save menu options are simply; Save Selected, Save <package file> As... and Save All.
I am using Version 9.00.1399.00 of the SSIS Designer.
At one time I did have the Management Studio's CTP installed. However it was uninstalled before installing the tools from the Standard Edition. (it would seem like not completely however)
Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx much.
p.s. Almost forgot to mention... I am already aware of using the DTSInstall utility as a workaround. It should be noted, however, that despite enabling the "CreateDeploymentUtility" property, the DTSInstall.exe is not copied to the binDeployment directory.
Is it possible to capture the errors which raising in System,Databases, networking using SQLServer UDB(assume DBA Database). or Is it possible to store all Errors(system,Databases,networking...Services failure...)in SQL Server UDB.
Hi all, ive got a problem creating a sql connection. Lets start from the beginning. I open Visual Studio, create a new empty website and then go to add a new SQL Database (new item > SQL Database). It asks me if i want to put this into the App_Data folder (which i choose 'yes' to), and then this error comes up...
I then decided to try a website template i found that i know works (because i got it running on Visual Studio at work), and this error comes up when i try to build the site...#
Heres a snippet of my machine.config...
Sorry about all the screenshots but im new to sql connections etc. Its all works fine at work and i can add a new database connection etc, but on my Home machine (Vista Ultimate, Visual Studio 2005 Pro, SQL Express). Im sure its something to do with the machine.config, but i dont know how to rebuild it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
I set up Reporting Services about 9 months ago when I installed Microsoft CRM 3 (Dynamics?), but these problems have only just started occurring. Lost count of how many hours have been wasted looking for answers!
Apologies if this rambles on like a cheap book but i don't want to miss out any of the detail..
CRM stops working within an hour of IIS starting up, but if somebody logs in to CRM before it goes down then it's fine for the rest of the day. However the next day it's back to square one. Looking through Event logs it seems to be caused by SQL Reporting Server, because;
Report Server errors show it starting up after IIS, but within an hour throws up "Exception: System.Runtime.Serialization.SerializationException - Message: Unable to find assembly 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics". It's at this point that IIS stops responding altogether, hence CRM stops working.
Running iisreset from the command line makes IIS work again, but this becomes a pain in the backside running it every morning before my colleagues get in. I have set up a schedule to run it for me, which works, but as i said if nobody logs in within the hour (which does happen at least once a week), then CRM won't work until i manually run iisreset again.
Also Reporting Services Configuration Manager does not start properly, so i can't even go through that to see if it's a config problem - when launching it i get an alert box with "An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 800706B3". That's with the default server name already in the box, but no matter what server name or IP I try to get it to connect to, it just will not have it. Also that error code seems to be unique to me, since not one webpage exists with the same code.
Other things i've gone through;
- SQL Server Configuration Manager shows everything Running, including Report Server - SQL Management Studio shows all CRM & Reporting Services databases exist and are online.
- The Report Server error log shows this: "w3wp!library!1!29/03/2008-12:34:00:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ReportServerServiceUnavailableException: The Report Server Windows service 'ReportServer' is not running. The service must be running to use Report Server."
- http://localhost/ works fine. - http://localhost/Reports/ shows up a .Net error page with Security Exception error: "The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy". - http://localhost/ReportServer/ shows up a page with "localhost/ReportServer - / ---- Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 8.00.1038.00" which i assume is lacking correct content.
- When CRM was configured the setup wizard moaned that it could not use the existing Reporting Services database or IIS directories, so for that purpose there are two more virtual directories in IIS.. - https://localhost/ReportsSQL/ shows up an error: "Unable to connect to the remote server" - https://localhost/ReportServerSQL/ shows up an error: "Reporting Services Error - The Report Server Windows service 'ReportServer' is not running. The service must be running to use Report Server. (rsReportServerServiceUnavailable)"
- While trying everything i am logged in as server admin - Software specs: Windows 2003 Small Business Server (SP2), SQL Server Standard 2005 (9.0.3054 / SP2), all patches from Microsoft Update (not just Windows Update) have been applied.
If you managed to read this far then thank you.. I'm nearly bald with frustration so if someone could please suggest things worth looking into or trying, that would be very much appreciated.
