Append Headers / Footer Rows To Existing Text File
Nov 21, 2006
Help,
I have a client that requres me to add a header line and trailer line to a flat file. The trick is the header and footer row is required to have a length of 120 with 5 colunmns while the data included in the query has a length of 1125 and about 70 columns. How can I append a header row to a file through SSIS.
Hello, I'm beginner in SQL and I would like to do a simple thing : Extract data from different table to a text file. I would like an automatic schedule job to extract these data and also I need that the result are "append" in this text file. Could you help me and give me the process to follow. Thanks in Advance
I have created a DTS package which transfers data from a SQL 2000server table to a text file. Each time the package is executed thedata in the text file is replace with the new data from the currentexecution of the package. Can DTS append new text to a text file andnot replace it each time the package executes. Is there an option orseeting for this? I havent seen one. Can anyone help me out on this.Thank you,Brett
I am trying my first bulk update to an existing SWL table from a CSV text file,The text file naming is exacrtly the same as the SQL table, with the same attributes
The statements: BULK INSERT [Jedox_prod].[dbo].[B_BP_Customer] FROM 'c:Baanjedox_dailyjdcom4401.txt' WITH
[code]....
The error message is: [size=1Msg 4864, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Bulk load data conversion error (type mismatch or invalid character for the specified codepage) for row 2, column 3 (BP_Country). Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error. Msg 7330, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot fetch a row from OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)".size=1]..The have checked and re-checked the BP_Country field ( the 1st field after the key) and I am not seeing any mismatches.
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[GetProspectBySearch] @StartRowIndex AS INT, @MaximumRows AS INT, @ModuleType AS VARCHAR(50) = NULL, @ProspectCategory AS VARCHAR(50) = NULL, @ProspectsWithoutContact AS BIT = NULL AS BEGIN IF @Status = 'All' BEGIN SET @Status = NULL END
[code]....
1) How do I can write count and paging statements in to single statement ? 2) There is parameter @ProspectsWithoutContact is using for differentiation  for count and paging statements. If @ProspectsWithoutContact is "1" then this clause ( AND ContactPerson = NULL AND TelNo = NULL AND FaxNo = NULL)  will be added in to both count and paging statements. How do I can write this in to single statement with out IF ELSE ?
I have an existing table I need to add data to. The data is in a text file, and the existing table already has data in it (I don't want to delete this I want to add to it).
I used Microsoft's import utility but this created a seperate table with generic fieldnames (column01, column02, ect). Is there a step in this wizard I missed?
Is there a way to split at this point and put the 12 rows in a different location? The task is twofold - I don't need these control rows in my data and I need value of "records" to verify loaded number of rows.
UPDATED: After some testing I found out that the Flat File source does not see that footer at all. This is good and bad - I do want to load this metedat into some other tables.
I have been given an MS Access Database that has a table with columns
I have to create a spreadsheet that will have the data stored in the column header as a row (essentially we are creating a spreadsheet that records all of the different columns in all of the different tables in the MS Access DB).
Im creatting an SSIS project that uses an Data Flow OLE DB Source to read data from an SQL Table and import it into a Destination table using Data Flow OLE DB Destination. but now everytime I run the project it appends all the rows not the new data rows only. How can I make the application so that it appends only the new data from a source table to a destination table. Is there maybe another Data Flow Control that can copy source table to destination and the next time it runs it only copy new rows. or any other way to do this using SSIS.
I know the basic defiinition of these two options, but i am not very clear why would someone choose one over another, currently I am using Append to Media option, and every day backup, I see my backup files growing in size.
can someone give me nice example about these two options,
I have excel files where the column headers I care about are on line 5, and the actual data doesn't begin until line 6. Other than deleting the first 4 lines, which is impractical, how can I get the Excel Connection Manager to import the data correctly? I was able to do this under DTS, so I have to imagine it's possible.
I'm trying to append rows horizontally - I'm using the "xml path" approach
SELECT E.[USER_NAME] As 'User Name', ( SELECT ',' + C.[PERMISSION_NAME] FOR XML PATH('') ) As [Associated Groups] FROM TABLEA As A JOIN TABLEB AS B ON A.PK_OBJ_ID = B.FK_APP_OBJECT_REF JOIN TABLEC AS C ON C.PK_PERMISSION_ID = B.FK_PERMISSION_REF JOIN TABLED AS D ON D.FK_PERMISSION_REF = C.PK_PERMISSION_ID JOIN TABLEE AS E ON E.PK_PERSONNEL_ID = D.FK_PERSONNEL_REF WHERE A.[OBJECT_NAME] = 'MyObjectName'
It's not working. I'm getting:
User nameAssociated Groups A. SmithG1 A. SmithG2 A. SmithG3 etc...
What I'm looking for is:
User NameAssociated Groups A. SmithG1, G2, G3 etc...
I am having a problem trying to do some conditional formatting on the text color.
This textbox is in the Group Footer so i essentially want change the color to red if the SUM of one field in the group is less than the SUM of another field in the same group.
I am doing this: =Iif(Sum(Fields!YTDChargeHours)< Sum(Fields!YTDForecast), "Red", "Black")
but i am getting this error:
[rsRuntimeErrorInExpression] The Color expression for the textbox €˜YTDChargeHours€™ contains an error: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.
we can easily load a file into db tables. However, my main concern here is the number of columns in the file. A text file TEXT_1400.txt has 1400 columns. I am unable to load data to my db table using BCP or BULK INSERT commands, as maximum of 1024 columns are allowed per table in SQL Server 2008.Â
We can still go ahead and create ‘Wide Table’ (a special table that holds up to 30,000 columns. The maximum size of a wide table row is 8,019 bytes.). But when operating on wide table, BCP/BULK INSERT commands still fail. After few hours of scratching my head over BCP and BULK INSERT, I observed that while inserting BCP/BULK INSERT commands are unable to identify SPARSE columns and skip these columns, which disturbs column mapping and results in data conversion and trancation errors.  Is there any proper way to load this kind of files into the db table?Â
I have a single table that consist of 4 columns. Entity, ParamName, ParamsValue and ParamiValue. This table stores normalized Late Fee related parameters for apartments. The Entity field contains a code that identifies the apartment complex. The ParamName in a textual field that contains the name of the parameter that the other 2 fields define the value for; ParamsValue and ParamiValue. If the Late Fee parameter (as named in ParamName is something numerical then the value for that parameter can be found in ParamiValue else its in ParamsValue.
I don't know if 'Pivot' is the correct term to use for describing what I am trying to do because I've looked at the Pivot examples and I don't see how that will work for this. Using the Table and data as provided below, how would I construct a query so that I get 1 row per Entity in which the columns are the ParamsValue or ParamiValue for the ParamName listed in the column header (for the query)?
Below is the DDL to create the table and populate it.
USE [DBA_UTIL] CREATE TABLE [dbo].[PARAMEXAMPLE]( [Entity] [varchar](16) NULL,
I want to loop through rows and append values to a declared variable. The example below returns nothing from Print @output, it's as if my @output variable is being reset on every iteration.
declare @i int,@output varchar(max) set @i = 1 while @i < 10 begin set @output = @output + convert(varchar(max),@i) + ',' print @output set @i = @i +1 end
I am exporting SSRS report to Excel I am aware that excel doesn't show footer , It shows in print preview but my footer has text box which have text disclaimer more than 255 characters, the data getting truncated.
Hi All. I am building an SSIS job that will export some data to a csv then ftp it to a remote site. I have been able to create the csv alright, but I need to add header and footer lines to the csv.
The header must be:
Filename+ crlf (will not change) File type+ crlf (will not change)
Create date+ crlf (obviously changes) -- format is mmddyyyy as text
And the footer is:
Filename+ crlf (will not change) File type+ crlf (will not change)
Create date+ crlf (obviously changes) -- format is mmddyyyy as text
Total rows+ crlf (obviously changes)
So I need to first open the file, count the number of rows, then add the header and footer lines.
I would like to do this as a step in ssis, as a function (not by calling a compiled assembly or anything like that). I have no experience with vb.net, and haven't been able to find any snippets on the web that seem to work. Can anybody lend a hand? thx. David
