i have a case : i'm using a select statement with SqlCommand and save the results in the SQLDataAdapterand using the data table I post the result to the gridview and show it there....my question is what should I do to append string to the SQL Command??
I have a list of ClassID that is stored based on users multi select on a listview
For example ClassID might contain
301 302 303 304
Now I need to find InstructorID where classID matches all the value in the above list.
I am using this query
Code: Dim assSQL = "Select InstructorID from ClassInstructors where ClassID = @P0" For i = 1 To classIDs.Count - 1 assSQL &= " UNION Select InstructorID from ClassInstructors where ClassID = @P" & i.ToString Next
....
But the problem is the query is returning InstructorID where ClassID matches any of the ClassIDs. I want it to return Instructor ID where ClassID matches all of the ClassIDs in the string.
Hello, I am facing a problem in a SELECT clause which i cannot solve. In my SQL table ("myTable") i have a few columns ("Column1", "Column2", "TypeColumn"). When I select different columns of the table, instead of getting the value of TypeColumn, i would like to get a boolean indicating whether its value is a certain string or not. For example, the TypeColumn accepts only a number of selected strings: "AAA", "BBB", "CCC". when i do a select query on the table, instead of asking for TypeColumn i would like to ask a boolean value of 1 if TypeColumn is "AAA" and 0 if TypeColumn is "BBB" or "CCC". Also, i would like to make this query while I am also fetching the other columns. And i would like to use one query to get all that. I thought something like thsi would work:
SELECT Column1 AS Col1, Column2 AS Col2, IF(TypeColumn = "AAA", 1, 0) AS Col3 FROM myTable
but this doesn't work in SQL 2005! Is it possible to do something similar in SQL 2005 using one query only? i am trying to avoid multiple queries for this.
How do I append data on an update? I have a table with a field that is nVarchar(1000) and the initial insert is a few sentences. If I wanted to add to that row using an update statement and without starting at the end of the sentences, how would I write that?
Update table set fieldname = 'more data' where value = @variable
instead of
Update table set fieldname = 'initial data more data' where value = @variable
and the 'more data' appends to the initial data... hmmm
I need to append text to the end of my sql query results. For instance, my query returns a list of user names infirstname.lastname. I need to add @yahoo.com to each record. So theend result should be Join Bytes!. What should byselect statement look like?Any help?
I deliberately intend to add some duplicates to one of my tables. For eg
Job User IsAdmin
JobID 235User ID 1 JobID 235User ID 5 JobID 235User ID 9 JobID 235User ID 5 JobID 235User ID 2 JobID 235User ID 9 JobID 235User ID 10 JobID 235User ID 1
I know its bad practice to do such a thing but there is a genuine reason. What I need to do is to be able to have a SQL statement that appends true to the IsAdmin field whenever it encounters the next UserID thats happens to be a duplicate. Hence the above would look like:
Job User IsAdmin
JobID 235User ID 1 JobID 235User ID 5 JobID 235User ID 9 JobID 235User ID 5 True JobID 235User ID 2 JobID 235User ID 9 True JobID 235User ID 10 JobID 235User ID 1 True
I have a table with fields name Days1, Days2, Days3 - I am trying to use a loop in conjunction with a counter to identify each of these fields - I can't quite get the correct syntax and it is driving me crazy!!!
Here's the proc:
WHILE @Counter < 4 BEGIN
SELECT @AppointmentsCount = COUNT(tbl_SurgerySlot.SurgerySlotKey) FROM tbl_SurgerySlot INNER JOIN tbl_SurgerySlotDescription ON tbl_SurgerySlot.PracticeCode = tbl_SurgerySlotDescription.PracticeCode AND tbl_SurgerySlot.Label = tbl_SurgerySlotDescription.Label LEFT OUTER JOIN tbl_Appointment ON tbl_SurgerySlot.SurgerySlotKey = tbl_Appointment.SurgerySlotKey AND tbl_SurgerySlot.ExtractDate = tbl_Appointment.ExtractDate WHERE (tbl_SurgerySlot.ExtractDate = @ExtractDate) AND (tbl_Appointment.AppointmentKey IS NULL) AND (tbl_SurgerySlot.StartTime > @DateFrom) AND (tbl_SurgerySlot.StartTime < @DateTo) AND (tbl_SurgerySlotDescription.IsBookable = 1)
SET @FieldName = 'Days' + CONVERT(VARCHAR(20),@Counter)
INSERT INTO tmp_Availability (@FieldName) VALUES (@AppointmentsCount)
SET @DateTo = DATEADD(Day,1,@DateTo)
--Increment the loop counter SET @Counter = @Counter + 1
When I run the above the follwoing message is displayed:
Server: Msg 208, Level 16, State 3, Line 36 Invalid object name 'tmp_Availability'.
In SQL 2000 DTS, I was able to append data from an ODBC source to a SQL 2000 destination table. The destination table was created by copying an attached source table in Access to a new table, then upsizing it to SQL. The character fields come over as varchar, and that seemed to be fine with the DTS job.
Now using the same source table and the same SQL destination, only in SQL 2005 with Integration Services instead of DTS, I get an error because the connection manager interprets the source text fields as Unicode and the destination fields are varchar.
I could script the table and change the text fields in the destination table to nvarchar, but this could have adverse affect on the application that uses the destination table. Is there a way to make the connection manager see the source text fields as varchar, or have the integration package allow the append even though the destination is varchar and the source is nvarchar?
When calling my SELECT statement, I would like to have Column name and Data type as the first record. Is this possible to do? I would like to make a SP that would select all data from any table(with a header row) with just:
_sp_getData ' table_name'
I looked at sysobjects, and syscolumns tables, but was unable to put it all together. I have over 200+ tables, so creating variables for every column is very cumbersome.
Something like this:
select 0 AS SortCol , cast(min(case ordinal_position when 1 then column_name end) as varchar) as col1, cast(min(case ordinal_position when 2 then column_name end) as varchar) as col2, cast(min(case ordinal_position when 3 then column_name end) as varchar) as col3, cast(min(case ordinal_position when 4 then column_name end) as varchar) as col4, cast(min(case ordinal_position when 5 then column_name end) as varchar) as col5, cast(min(case ordinal_position when 6 then column_name end) as varchar) as col6, cast(min(case ordinal_position when 7 then column_name end) as varchar) as col7, cast(min(case ordinal_position when 8 then column_name end) as varchar) as col8, cast(min(case ordinal_position when 9 then column_name end) as varchar) as col9 from information_schema.columns where table_name = 'authors' union all select 1 , au_id, au_lname, au_fname, phone, address, city, state, zip, cast(contract as varchar) from authors
I have a select list of fields that I need to select to get the results I need, however, I would like to insert only a chosen few of these fields into a table. I am getting the error, "The select list for the INSERT statement contains more items than the insert list. The number of SELECT values must match the number of INSERT columns." How can I do this?

I need to pass in null/blank value in the date field or declare the field as string and convert date back to string.
I tried the 2nd option but I am having trouble converting the two digits of the recordset (rs_get_msp_info(2), 1, 2))) into a four digit yr. But it will only the yr in two digits. The mfg_start_date is delcared as a string variable
option 1 I will have to declare the mfg_start_date as date but I need to send in a blank value for this variable in the stored procedure. It won't accept a null or blank value.
We have some URLs within a bulk block of text some of which are very long. I need to identify rows where such urls exceed say 100 characters in length in amongst other text.So the rule would be return a record if within the string there is a string (without spaces) longer than 100 characters.
A table I'm working with has a varchar column containing a comma-delimited string of numbers, which match up to smallint codes in another table. I gather this is someone's implementation of a many-to-many relationship. :)
Using SQL Server 2008 and wondering if there's a special trick to using a string list of numbers with IN() URL...converting the string into a temp table but I'd just like to make sure there isn't a quicker, easier approach, or if that's it.
I'm trying to modify an existing report. But if I make any change at all to the query (anything at all, like add a space), when I switch to the layout tab, the list of fields in the field list disappears. Un-doing the change does not restore the field list. The query runs fine from the data tab and returns a valid resultset.
Any suggestions?
This is with RS 2000 and Visual Studio 2003. Specifically, I'm trying to modify the Sales Pipeline Detail report from CRM.
Link ( GroupID int , MemberID int ) Member ( MemberID int , MemberName varchar(50), GroupID varchar(255) )
The Link table contains the records showing which Member is in which Group. One particular Member can be in multiple Groups and also a particular Group may have multiple Members.
The Member table contains the Member's ID, Member's Name, and a Group ID field (that will contains comma-separated Groups ID, showing in which Groups the particular Member is in).
We have the Link table ready, and the Member table' with first two fields is also ready. What we have to do now is to fill the GroupID field of the Member table, from the Link Table.
For instance,
Read all the GroupID field from the Link table against a MemberID, make a comma-separated string of the GroupID, then update the GroupID field of the corresponding Member in the Member table.
Please help me with a sql query or procedures that will do this job. I am using SQL SERVER 2000.
Can anyone point me to a comprehensive list of the options available in connection strings? I know that a lot of the options are able to be set elsewhere, but I'd like to have a complete listing for interests sake.
I am in need of help to develop a query I have two tables Exams and Exams_lab, that are joined by a field id_exame. I want to return The Exams that has all the dependent rows in Exames_lab with the same value in the status_int field of Exames_lab. Can anyone Help Me? Lets see an example tb_exame

hey, what the best way of stripping out a list of characters from a specified field in a table. e.g If first name consists of ABCD'E-FSA, we wnat to strip the ' and the -. There is about 15-20 characters like that. what's the best way of doing it other encapsulating in the replace function that many times. thanks zoey
Hi! I have a strored proc which adds up fields separated by semicolon into a new one and I'd like to use it as a combo box's control source field as a Value list. But it's just insert the whole field into one line like value1;value2;value3 . Is there any way to get these values selectable in the combo box?
I am writing a utility that creates Java code to access a database. I am looking for a way to get a list of fields and types that are returned by an sproc. Is there any easy way to get this from the master? Do you need to parse the SQL? This list would be like what Visual Studio.NET shows, or interdev if I remember correctly.
fields: assassinid int, identity, primary key assassinname nvarchar assassincallsign nvarchar knifekills int sniperkills int stealthkills int fibergarotekills int
supposed i want to retreive only those records whose type of kills is on a given list, how do i do that? the list is actually dynamic since the kill types is actually coming from a checkbox on my page: [] Knife Kills [] Sniper Kills [] Stealth Kills [] Fibergarrote Kills
supposed i will only check Knife Kills, it will only retreive those records whose knifekills > 0
or if i check Snipers Kills and Stealth Kills, then those records whose sniperkills and stealthkills is > 0.
I am fairly new to SQL programming and would like to see if you can provide me with some direction on a small project I would like to accomplish. I have experience working with databases (mainly in with different versions of FoxPro) and reporting with Crystal reports, etc. but not much with SQL.
The project that I would like to work on has 2 SQL DBs and entails looking in a database for empty CLASSCODE fields, populate these fields from a “storage database that contains un-used CLASSCODE codes and delete the assigned codes from the storage DB or mark them as used possibly the book code.
The main DB called books has the following relevant fields, bookid, bookname, CLASSCODE (besides a number of other fields which are irrelevant to what I need to do). The “storage DB called classcode has 3 fields, CLASSCODE, Used (single character intended to contain either a Y or NULL) and date assigned. The original idea was to put a Y in the used field and insert the date the code was assigned to a book, but this is not entirely necessary, we have 90k unused codes and it really does not matter if they are simply deleted from the DB.
My idea is to create a script to accomplish this that I can run periodically when new books have been added to the DB. I can setup the update routine (something like the list below) but what I am stuck with is trying to do the following:
Pick the first record (classcode) from the classcode DB Go to the books DB and update it with this classcode Go back to the classcode DB and mark the used record with a Y in the Used field Loop though the books DB and perform the same operation until no more records exist with an empty classcode field.
I will greatly appreciate your feedback you can provide.
Mike.

How do I list all available values for a field? Using Distinct can only list all entries in the db, but does not list all values available for the field.
I want to do something like this in a stored proc:------Create Procedure dbo.GetPatients@PatientIdList varchar(200) -- comma separated list of PatientIDsAsSelect *From PatientsWhere PatientId In (@PatientIdList)------I know the above won't work, but of course what I want is if@PatientIdList = '1,2,3' then I want Patient records with PatientIds1, 2, and 3 returned. It looks like the only way to do this is to build the SQL statement asa string within the stored procedure ... which pretty much defeats theusefulness of using precompiled sprocs as I understand it (better offbuilding a dynamic query against a View in that case).Thoughts?Joel Thornton ~ <groups@joelpt.eml.cc>

I am having issues where the PowerPivot Field List does not refresh once I add a new table/field then select Refresh All under Data. I have to refresh every single PowerPivot Field List so they are all refreshed. ("PowerPivot data was modified" message). This doesn't happen at first but once the model is built on it tends to happen.I'm on Excel 2010 PowerPivot 2012 SP2 32bit. I have Windows 7 64bit and I'm wondering if the bitness inconsistency is an issue.
