Applying SP2 For SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition (on 64 Bit Windows)
Jun 26, 2007
Hello,
I'm experiencing some issues with applying SP2. I'm getting a failure for the database engine (on two instances that have been installed on a server). I've noticed in the forum that a few others have had some issues in this area as well. The slightly strange thing is that if I check the version of SQL Server on each instance it is telling me that SP2 has been installed:
9.00.3042.00 SP2 Enterprise Edition (64-bit)
So, the logs tell me I have a failed upgrade, but SQL is telling me it has been upgraded.
Any help would be appreciated.

I recently bought a Dell server with Windows 2003 enterprise edition. I wanted the X32 version and metnioned of the same to the sales people, but somehow they put the x64 edition on the server. The database I am planning to use does not work on X64 edition as of now. How do I downgrade the OS to X32 version? Do I need to send the system back to Dell? Machine not opened yet. Or is there a way I can get software CD and downgrade to X32 version?
Thanks,

We are currently running SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on a
Windows 2003 R2 server standard edition 32-bit OS.
We are planning to upgrade the OS to Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition 32-bit
and up the RAM to 8 GBs.
Can SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition take advantage of the extra memory ?
Can SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition use 5-6 GB of ram ?

Hi
-I have istalled sql server 2005 standard edition , I want to install sql server 2005 enterprise edition on the same machine.
Is it possible? I have Microsoft windows server 2003 SP2 and 1GB RAM.
I want to use partition function with the enterprise edition, will the trial version of sql server work for me?
-If I have already created a database and tables using the standard edition, will I be able to access and use the database using the installed trial version or will I have to start a fresh creating a new database?
- Is it possible to access the same database with any of the installed versions?
BTW, I am prety new to sql server and databases , I am trying to learn by myself
Thanks

Dear All,We have a database which contains many tables which have millions ofrecords. When We attach the database with MS SQL Server 2005 StandardEdition Server and run some queries (having joins, filters etc.) thenthey take very long time to execute while when We execute same querieson Enterprise Edition then they run 10 times faster than on standardedition. Our database does not use any features which are present in EnterpriseEdition and not present in Standard Edition. We want to know what arethe differences between Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition forperformance. Why should we go for Enterprise Edition when StandardEdition has all the features required. We are presently using evaluation versions of SQL Server 2005 Standardand Enterprise Editions. Thanks and regards,Nishant Sainihttp://www.simplyjava.com

I am attempting to upgrade a 2005 Standard Edtion to Enterprise Edition. This is a default instance. All components are upgraded successfully except the Database Engine. I receive the following error:
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following problem: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]The certificate cannot be dropped because one or more entities are either signed or encrypted using it.. To continue, correct the problem, and then run SQL Server Setup again.
This installation does not have encryption enabled, so I do not undersand the error or how to correct it.
After rebooting the SQL instance appears to be upgraded to Enterprise, but it cannot be upgraded to SP2.
Thanks,

Hi all--I'm researching the cleanest downgrade path from a trial edition of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise to a licensed Standard Edition copy. It looks like downgrading will entail uninstalling the old version and installing the new version, but I'd like to save the original setup as much as possible. Detaching the old databases will preserve the non-system databases; what method would work best for restoring the system databases?
Thanks!

We have an existing installation of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (64bit) that we are ready to go live with and would like to change the edition to Enterprise Edition (64bit). We have purchased all the appropriate licenses. We would like to avoid UN-installing the Developer Edition and RE-installing the Enterprise Edition. There must be some way to change a registry key, provide your serial number via a command line utility or re-run the setup with the license key provided and direct it to just change the edition from Developer to Enterprise and not change any of the other settings like service account, sa account, collation, etc. Any help is most appreciated.
Thank you,

Hi
I am interested in taking MCTS exam 70-431 for sql server 2005 implementation and maintainance.
I have been reading the hardware requirements for the instalation of sql server versions and realise that enterprise and developer editions have same minimum requirements for the operation system.
I understand that the Developer Edition includes all the functionality of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, but it is licensed for use as a development and test system, not as a production server.
Also I undestand that the developer edition supports the Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 or later but the enterprise edition does not support this operating system. The evaluation/trial version is for the enterprise edition. Can I use the developer version of sql server 2005 for my practice exercises instead of using the trial version?
I have all hardware requirements for the trial enterprise version except that I am using Microsoft windows Xp home edition version 2002 with SP2. I am trying to see if I can use the developer version of sql server 2005 as it is cheaper for me to buy this software than buying the new operating system for my computer.
According to the microsoft book for the MCTS exam 70-431 there is a section which states that before you begin you should have Microsoft Windows Server 2003 running on your computer on an NTFS file system
(NTFS) partition. Will I still be ok to use the book and be able to do all the tests in the book if i am using the developer version of sql server 2005 with my Microsoft windows Xp home edition than using the trial version which comes with the book?
Thanks

I have:
A server computer running SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition.
A industrial computer running SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
And now also a Psion WorkAboutPro with CE 5 that should run SQL Server Compact Edition.
The industrial computer syncs its data with the server, basically saying "this has happened".
Now I want the Psion to sync with the industrial computer, but this sync must two-way.
I have tried to find a guide or something that can tell me "do this to sync" but the information i have found is sketchy at best.
If someone could point me in the right direction of a guide or something else it would be much appreciated.

Working on some performance issues at the database end, our team observed, that the query execution done by SQL Server 2005 was done by using only one processor in our application. The stored procedures are written in T-SQL and have a dedicated Database Server, running SQL Server 2005.
Our tests lead to the following observations;
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition was executing stored procedures using only 1 processor, when it is a multiple processor Server.
Apart from this the stored procedure execution is very linear.
We would like to have your suggestions on the same.

Girish

How many SQL Instances can be created in SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition?
I was told that there are 50 only. Is this true?
We are considering to use SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition on Windows Data Center 2003 which can support up to 32 CPUs. If 50 SQL instances is the limitation, why should I use Data Center for SQL 2005? That means I can only host about 50 system or less on one SQL Data Center.
Thanks a lot.

I installed SQL 2005 Standard edition on a failover cluster (Windows 2003). It is in production. Vendor wanted Enterprise Edition. What are my options to migrate to Enterprise? Is there an in-place way to do this, or is it a big deal?
Vendor probably doesn't need Enterprise. It's a low volume OLTP application with small databases. No fancy stuff (other than the failover clustering). Vendor simply did not test his application on Standard so he says we need Enterprise. Nevertheless, Management will probably want me to make the change.

Hi,
We have a Sql 2005 server. It was setup by out network administrators who do not know much about sql server. It's running on Mixed Mode (Sql Server & Windows Authentication Mode). I have been able to connect to it use Integrated Security. However, I have not been able to connect to it using an username and a password. I have tried with sql accounts and windows accounts. Out of frustration, I used sql administrator account and windows domain administrator accounts. I also tried using the account the sql server is running on. But each and every time, I failed and received the following error message:
Login failed for user '<<User Name>>'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
I have also changed my connection string many times, but it doesn't matter. And I have been able to connect to our Sql 2000 servers successfully.
Please help!!

We currently want to move towards partitioning tables on a master server which is running SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition. However, we have transactional replication as well as log-shipping set-up against that server. The log-ship destination is also running Enterprise Edition, but the subscription server(s) are all Standard Edition only. Will there be any problems or special steps required in creating data partitions on some of these replicated tables if we don't upgrade our license?

Hi All !!
I have a Server on Development with SQL 2000 + Report Server 2000 and SQL 2005 Standard with Report Server 2005. All is working properly.
Now, my boss realized that it is important to use SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition instead of SQL 2005 Standard Edition. This is the first time I do this and I don't know where to start or which are the items that I should consider when installing SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition.
Should I uninstall SQL 2005 Standard?
After installing Enterprise, Report Server will work as usual?
Are there any items to have in mind?
Many Thanks!!

Hello,
I started out with SQLExpress and that installed just fine. After going through some books about SQL, I found out the limitations to SQLExpress and realized that I would need the full version if I was to further my education on this. (analysis services, integration services, etc etc.)
I uninstalled SQLExpress and downloaded and installed SQL Server 2005 (Enterprise Edition I believe).
I have installed SQL Server 2005 and I went to go connect. It says it requires a Server Name. So I put the local name of the computer in there and came back with an Error 40. During the troubleshooting of what is causing this error I discovered there are no Services installed from SQL Server 2005. They were removed when I removed SQLExpress and not reinstalled when I installed SQL Server 2005.
I checked in both the Services Icon in Administrative Tools and in the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
This would account for my not being able to connect to a local server.
How do I bring them back. I have uninstalled and reinstalled SQL Server 2005 3 times now. It doesn't bring them back.
Now, apparently Enterprise edition does not run on Windows XP Pro SP2. Is there anyway around this? I heard something about a manual installation from the CD but I didn't understand what he was attempting to say.

I already downloaded from it, burned the downloaded image, but the problem is that sql.cab and some other cab files got corrupted and some components became unable to install. I tried and installed it without some components. So anybody can help me in getting a proper link.
And one more thing, i downloaded from the microsoft site itself with file size around 890MB. So give me link which works 100% or those who have tried and got 100% result.
