Hi,
Apologies if this question is similar to one posted under "Click once deployment" but I got no replies and I REALLY need to know the answer to my problem!
I am using VB on VS 2005 Express and SQL Server 2005 Express.
My application is nearing the stage where I can start to use real data (from the end user) for testing purposes. Once I am as happy as I can be, I will install the application on the user's machine and he will use the application for a few weeks, with real data, before giving me a list of problems/suggested improvements etc.
I will then need to make the changes and re-install the application on his machine without losing all the changes he has made to the DB in those weeks.
Presumably, there must be a way of updating the executables without making changes to the DB on the client machine.
This is a very serious issue for me as the data will be around 2,000 records each of over 60 fields and the raw data will come from a variety of sources including paper so the data inputting will be a massive task that I do not want to repeat!
Also, if the application were ever to be sold, then other users would want to apply updates to the software whilst keeping their own data secure.
I have tried re-publishing and installing the application after setting the Publish Status of the DB files to "Exclude" but the newly installed application fails to connect to the old version of the DB.
I would very much appreciate any help in this matter as I hope I haven't just wasted several months of coding!

Got following error in windows app event log when tried to start SSIS after applying sql2k5 sp1, event id is 260:
Microsoft SSIS Service failed to start.
Error: Method 'GetVersionInfo' in type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Server.DtsServer' from assembly 'MsDtsSrvr, Version=9.0.242.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' does not have an implementation.
Anyone got same issue and how to solve it?
I am new to SSIS and I need a jump start on how I can use filters to filter out some data based on criteria in the form of EXCEL Work Book.
I have a Owners table for which the filters of Brand, Number etc are applied and the records which pass the filters are to be updated in to the new table.
Any ideas on how we can do this??? Thanks in Advance..

Hi,

For this I have created SSIS package and loaded data into DataReader destination, but now how to use this data in my application.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Is it possible to use an SSIS package in a .NET application without install sql server?
Thank you in advance
Hello, is it posssible to execute SSIS packages from ASP.NET ? Which code should I Use?
View 4 Replies View RelatedHi everybody,
I have the following method and it works well on my development workstation ;
Code Snippet
private DataTable ilaclariGetir(string dataReaderDestination) {
string dtexecArgs;
DtsConnection dtsConnection;
DtsCommand dtsCommand;
IDataReader dataReader;
DtsDataParameter dtsParameter;
DataTable dataTable = new DataTable();
dtexecArgs = @"/FILE ""C:TempEczaTakipProjessisPaketleriPackage.dtsx""";
dtsConnection = new DtsConnection();
{
dtsConnection.ConnectionString = dtexecArgs;
dtsConnection.Open();
}
dtsCommand = new DtsCommand(dtsConnection);
dtsCommand.CommandText = dataReaderDestination;
dataReader = dtsCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.Default);
// IDataReader 'ın buradaki gerçekleştirimi diğer dataReader 'lardan farklı. Kayıtlar okunurken son kayıt okunmasına rağmen
// read() metodu bir kez daha true dönüyor ve kayıt sayısı + 1 tane okuma yapılıyor. Yapılan son okuma da istisna fırlatıyor.
try
{
dataTable.Load(dataReader);
}
catch (ApplicationException ae)
{
}
dtsCommand.Dispose();
dataReader.Close();
try
{
dtsConnection.Close();
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
}
return dataTable;
}
However it always fails after I publish the asp.net 2.0 application to our Win 2003 Server. I also copied the configuration and dtsx file to proper location on the server.
I can use dtexec to execute the package without any problem on the same location.
But when called from the application, the package fails to validate.
Is it about a user- permission problem ?
Hi..
I have Created an SSIS Package to Backup a database..
I want to execute that SSIS package from a .net application
How can i do this??
Hello
I have a SSIS-Package stored in the SQL Server. This package works fine when i execute it from the SQL Server. But if I try to execute the package from a COM+-Application, nothing happens.
Here is my code snipped:
Public Function ExecutePackage €¦
Dim myPackage As New Package
Dim app As New Application
Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult
'----- Execute the package from SQL Server
myPackage = app.LoadFromSqlServer("\PackageName", "ServerInstance", Nothing, Nothing, Nothing)
pkgResults = myPackage.Execute()
€¦
End Function
In a Windows Forms Application I can execute the package with this code snipped succesfully. Therefor I think that the problem is my COM+-Application.
Can anybody help me?
Thank's

Can you put is a call withing a Data Flow that will call an External Application and pass a parameter to that application IE say a command line app and then take the output and assign it to back to the flow as a "column" or whatever for that row... IE I want to take a value push it to an external app and then the output from that app I want to insert it into another field for that row in the new table I am moving the data to.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe need to launch SSIS packages from within an application. As a DBA I am trying to come up with a solution that is easy to implement and will fit security best practices. Here are the possibilities that I see:
Launch dtexec via xp_cmdshell. This is the one all developers come up with first. It is not possiblebecause use of xp_cmdshell is restricted to DBAs only.
create a table into which application can insert the dtexec command. Create a job to check the table every minute and run the command via xp_cmdshell. Developers don't like this one because it is not instant.
Same as above but launch the job with sp_start_job. Not allowed because sp_start_job requires sysadmin rights.
Create a table as above but launch the packages via a service that runs on an application server. The service
checks the table and launches the packages. Fairly complex to put together and requires dtexec on the application server.
Install dtexec together with the front end and launch the packages from the client. Too expensive because dtexec requires a SQL Server license.
Create a CLR procedure that launches the package (don't know how difficult this would be and what the pros/cons are)
Does anyone have any other suggestions or comments on my assumptions?
hi, does anyone know if an ssis pkg can be executed from a java or .net application?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a SSIS package that I want users to be able to execute by clicking a button on an a web page. The package does not require any parameters to be passed to it. Previously I've executed DTS packages without any problems but after a fair bit of investigation and trawling the net I've not found a way to do this successfully with SSIS. Some code I've tried - Dim app As New Application()
'
' Load package from file system
'
Dim package As Package = app.LoadPackage("c:ssisPackage.dtsx", Nothing)
'package.ImportConfigurationFile("c:ExamplePackage.dtsConfig")
'Dim vars As Variables = package.Variables
'vars("MyVariable").Value = "value from c#"
Dim result As DTSExecResult = package.Execute()
lblResult.Text = "Package Execution results: {0} " & result.ToString()
All I get is a message 'Failure'.
Does anyone have an example of how to do this?
Hi all,
I wish to pass parameter from a dropdownlist in my web application to the SSIS package so as to export the user specified table.
Is using package configuration the right way to do this?
Any advice is appreciated!
I have an asp.net web application and a web service (both of them are created in VS 2005 - asp.net 2.0). They are located on the same web server. In both web.config files, I have set <authentication mode="Windows"/> and <identity impersonate="true"/>. Also, configured the IIS settings to use Integrated Windows Authentication and unchecked the Anonymous access (for both). The web service is called from the web app, so I have to pass credentials for authentication to the web service. The web service loads and executes a SSIS package. The package and all the other sql objects are located in the sql server 2005 (windows server 2003 - the same server as the web server).
When run the web service from develop environment (vs. 2005), I get whatever I expected. When call it from web application, however, the package failed (no error message).
In the SSIS package, there are three connection managers €“
· A: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9.0 Ã connectionType=OleDbConnection
· B: .Net Providers SqlClient Data Provider à connection type=SqlConnection
· C: Native OLE DB Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server à connectionType=OLEDB
After ran the web application and check the sql database, I can tell that the package was reached and when through the first two steps (clear some records in table_1 and extract some records from table_2 ) which relate to the connection manager B €“ ADO.Net connection. The remaining steps failed which are related to the connection managers A & C.
From SSIS package log file, found that the user credentials (domain and username) were correctly passed from web service to sql server 2005 at the first two events, but the credentials (or operator) changed from domainABCuser123 to NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE after packageStart. Then, it complains €¦ either the user, domainABCserverName$, does not have access to the database, or the database does not exist.
I think the credentials are passed ok but some setting related to the Analysis services are not correct - complaining start from there. Any clues?
Please help and thank you all!
Hello,
Hopefully someone can help. I am not new to SQL Server, but am new to SSIS packages. As one step of my package I need to open and run a windows application. No problem there right? But, my problem is that I cannot get the "focus" returned back to the SSIS package. It doesnt move on to the next step until I close the windows application. It is like the package is the parent object waiting for a "finished" message from the child object, and it doesn't receive that message until the child object is closed. I've tried using a batch file to run the app and calling the batch file from an Execute Process Task, but that doesn't move onto the next step until the dos command prompt window closes and I can find a way to automatically close it from XP. I also can't find a way to kick off this windows app from a script task using command line. Not sure if I would run into the same problem going that route or not. If anyone can help, i would appreciate it.
Thanks

Hi, all here,
I am having a question about the language in which external managed code written can interact with SSIS? Is it only applications wrriten in .NET-compliant language can interact with SQL Server Intergration Services packages?
Thanks a lot in advance for any guidance and advices for that.
With best regards,
Yours sincerely,
Hello All,
I have a SSIS package which run well when stand-alone. However
it was failed when executed from .NET web application. It just simply return Failure. Code snip below:
Dim packagekgResults As DTSExecResult

packagekgResults = package.Execute()
Environment: Windows 2003 Shared Server, IIS 6.0
Any idea?
Thanks in advance!

Hello all,
I have an issue where the DBAs have informed my group that they need to get to a model where an SSIS package which presently needs Admin perms on a box in order to write to the Windows Application Log, no longer needs those perms to write to the log.
I am new to SSIS packages, though familiar with DTS packages (and ETL), so I'm wondering if their concerns (1) can be verified; and (2) if so, is there a better way to allow the package to write to the log without Admin perms (on the box). At the moment, the preference would be to do so without using .Net, in an effort to keep the implementation simple.
Scenario: A single package is scheduled to run at a predetermined time. Once complete it writes to the Windows Application Log.
Thanks in advance,
Henry
Hi,
I have a VB.NET program which creates a Job (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Agent.Job) and schedules it, to load and run a existing SSIS package, which is on a different server.
I'm using the following assemblies for this purpose.
Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlEnum.dll
To make this application run in my application server, do i have to install any SQL server components or SSIS rumtime components? Or Is it enough if i copy only the above mentioned dlls to my applications bin directory, in my application?
Note: I have the enterprise edition of SQL Server 2005 installed on my database server.
Thanks in advance.

SSIS package working fine directly.I got following error while execute SSIS package from C# console application.

Cannot find the connection manager with ID "{79D920D4-9229-46CA-9018-235B711F04D9}" in the connection manager collection due to error code 0xC0010009. That connection manager is needed by "OLE DB Destination.Connections[OleDbConnection]" in the connection manager collection of "OLE DB Destination".
Verify that a connection manager in the connection manager collection, Connections, has been created with that ID.
OLE DB Destination failed validation and returned error code 0xC004800B. One or more component failed validation. There were errors during task validation.
Code :Â

Hi all
I just want to make sure I have the proper understanding of how to apply MS security patches in a replicated SQL2k environment.
1) Upgrade Distributor
2) Upgrade Publisher
3) Upgrade Subcriber(s)
Any comment or suggestion would be highly appreciated :-)
Hi,
I am trying to install the eval version of Reporting Services. One of the requirements for installing this is to have SQL Server 2000 with service pack 3a. I've downloaded the service pack and followed the instructions documented by Microsoft (applying SQL2KSP3.exe, then SQL2KASP3.exe).
It appears that the application of the service packs did nothing. No errors where returned after the executable was run. But, after having applied these service packs, the version has not changed. I have restarted the service, and the server with no success. The version that is returned is
'Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.194'.
I am running MSSQL server Developer Edition, running on Windows 2000 Professional (service pack 4).
Any suggestions. I have even uninstalled the SQL server and re-applied the service packs, so I really am having trouble trying to figure out what to do next.
Thanks,
Jim

Are there any guidelines or best practices for deploying or testing Service Packs? What types of tests should be performed prior to upgrading or do I just trust Microsoft?
View 4 Replies View RelatedHi,
I need to modify an already existing stored procedure, which takes three parameters. Currently it uses exclusively "or" logic to apply the parameters to a select statement. e.g.
and (adid = @adID or (editorID = @editorID and aa.editorTypeID = 1))
What I need it to do is to apply a different "and/or" logic depending on what is supplied. If two or three parameters are supplied then it needs to use "and" logic to join them. Howver, if just one parameter is supplied then it should search on that parameter alone - which it won't do if I just join them all together using "and" by default.
The work has to be done inside the T-SQL, not in the calling code. I only know two ways of doing this. Firstly to create different stored procedures and use the calling code to pick one or the other depending on supplied parameters. The other is to do if/or login inside the SP itself on the values of the parameters. Either way presents something of a maintenance nightmare. Is there any other way to do this?
Cheers,
Matt
