Assign Records To Analysts

Jul 20, 2005

Here is my issue. I have a list of merchants (generated daily) and I
need to assign them eually to a set of analysts. Both the merchant
list and analyst list can change daily. I want to assign each merchant
with an analyst daily and need help to write out a stored procedure
for this (do not want to use VB).
Here is relevant code for the tables:
CREATE TABLE MerchList (
MerchListID int IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL ,
FileDate datetime NOT NULL ,
MerchID int NOT NULL ,
AnalystID int NOT NULL ,
)

CREATE TABLE tblAnalyst (
AnalystID int IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL ,
AnalystName varchar(100) NOT NULL
)

there will be about 10000 records in table MerchList and around 25
records in table tblAnalyst.

This will be used to assign work to analysts on a daily basis.

Thanks for all your help!

Impersonation Mode Issue: Multiple Analysts Requiring Separate AS DBs For Security Model

Nov 15, 2006

Hello--

We have a current situation where analysts will be modeling a variety of problems, all stemming from the same source data (stored in a SQL-Server 2005 relational database).

Analysts that work on the same problem will only have access to:

- A sandbox relational database (which contains views into the same source database). The analyst is db_owner of the sandbox database, so she/he can create data transformations required, etc. The sandbox database contains views to the source database, but the analyst only has read-access to the specific data elements needed from the source DB. So, they are very restricted w.r.t. the source database, but are db_owners of their sandbox relational databases. Note that the analyst will connect to the database via Windows Authentication.

- An Analysis Services sandbox database to use for their modeling, etc. In this AS sandbox db, we've created a role called "Administrator" and checked the permissions: Full control (Administrator), Process database, and Read definition. The analyst's windows account is the "user" associated with this role.

Also, in this situation, the SQL Server 2005 Relational Engine and Analysis Services are running on a single machine. The goal of this security model is to provide analysts with the ability to work in their "workspaces" (both SQL and AS), but not to see other analysts work, etc.

I'm running into a problem when trying to build models using this security model by doing the following:
- Running Visual Studio
- Selecting File -> Open -> Analysis Services Database and choosing the AS DB that I have access to (this is the only one that appears in the drop-down, after specifying the AS server).
- I've created a data source pointing to the relational sandbox DB.
- I've created a data source view choosing the table/view needed for the case table.
- I created a mining structure with a decision tree model

When I process the mining structure, I'm getting the following errors:

- If the data source Impersonation is "Default" -- the error is "The datasource, '<DS name>', contains an ImpersonationMode that is not supported for processing operations."

- If the data source Impersonation is "Use the credentials of the current user" -- the error is the same as "Default" above -- "The datasource, '<DS name>', contains an ImpersonationMode that is not supported for processing operations."

- If I change the data source Impersonation to "Use the service account" and select "OK" in the "Data Source Designer" window, and error comes up with message: "The ImpersonationInfo for '<DS name>' contains an ImpersonationMode that can only be used by a server administrator.

Any suggestions or pointers to help implement this security model to provide analysts with AS and SQL Relational resources for their modeling?

Thanks,

- Paul

It returns "<row UserId="1225" LastName="Evans" FirstName="Stephanie" MiddleInitial=...."), which is what I want. But when I try to assign it, I get an error "Incorrect syntax near 'XML'."

declare @strXml nvarchar(1000)

Assign A Foreign Key As A Parameter

Oct 15, 2007

hi everybody
I have the following asp.net2.0 codeSelectCommand = "Select IDEmp, FirstName,MiddleName,LastName, Date,HoursNumber, Description

where IDEmp =IDEmplWork AND FirstName = @FirstName AND Category = @AnyCategory AND ">

<SelectParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter ControlID="txtEmployeeName" DefaultValue="" Name="FirstName" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" /> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="DropDownList1" DefaultValue="" Name="AnyCategory" PropertyName = "SelectedValue" Type="String" />
</SelectParameters>

</asp:SqlDataSource>

The problem is that the AnyCategory in my DropDownList1 refers to a key but unfortunalely my code understand it as string so it assigns
 Category = @AnyCategory  as if Category ='AnyCategory ' not as Category = AnyCategory
 So what should I do

Assign Function To Table Var??

Sep 19, 2007

I keep getting a declare error on this:
DECLARE @SplitTable TABLE(Idx BIGINT IDENTITY(1,1), SplitData VARCHAR(20), Size INT)
SET @SplitTable = dbo.SplitToTable('|', '1|One|0:26:20|541|abc|xxx|6:26:33|21705')

All I want to do is assign the table that my function returns to a variable. Should be easy, but I tried the above and assigning with 'as':

select * from dbo.SplitToTable('|','1|One|0:26:20|541|abc|xxx|6:26:33|21705') as Split

that didn't work either.

Also tried:
DECLARE @SplitTable TABLE(Idx BIGINT IDENTITY(1,1), SplitData VARCHAR(20), Size INT)
select @SplitTable= from dbo.SplitToTable('|','1|One|0:26:20|541|abc|xxx|6:26:33|21705')

what am I missing?

Assign Text To Variables

I have a simple Execute DTS task which uses ADO.NET connection to update variable........and get the following error.

Variable:

@msg string

Query:

Select @msg = 'Invalid Process Dates'

[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "Select @msg = 'Invalid Process Dates'" failed with the following error: "The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. Parameter 3 ("@msg"): Data type 0xE7 has an invalid data length or metadata length.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

Once the configuration file is created then is it necessary to go to each package and then package configuration to point the package to the configuration file?
It seems the packages do not automatically refer to the config file. Instead each time the config file is changed then all the packages have to be pointed to the config file one by one. i.e. going from Dev to live.
Am I right?
