I am using SQL SERVER 2000. Until now my application used the default user "sa", but now the illigal access to my database make me move to a more secure login.
i am new to this concept.
i need to create a login, which i am successful in creating, but my problem is
I need to allow only this user to access my database and no other user should login my database.
please can any one explain how to do this.
its very urgent.
I am using SQLServer 2005, I have setup a login user "User1" and next I setup database user using the same username and login name. After that I create a new schema "mySchema" and make "User1" as the owner of the schema. To "User1" I assigned the default schema to "mySchema", so far its working fine. But when I open the user's property window (dialogbox) the default schema always gets reset to "dbo".
What could be the problem here? Please help me if there is any solution to get the right schema which I assigned to the user.
Hi, I want to give 'Execute' permission for all the sp to a particular user. Any straight way of doing this then to go to each sp and give him permission for every sp. TIA.
hi in my package, some sql operations need the special user name and admin privilage. so how do i create my ssis package so that when it executes it takes the given username and password from the table in some database.

Hi, I'm new to SQL Express 2005. I found information regarding : "Cannot open user default database. Login failed."on this forum but I think that in my case it's a bit different issue. I have a website (ASP.NET 2.0) accessing DB, in the mean time Windows Service tries to update some data in the same DB (Service runs as NT AUTHORITYLOCAL SYSTEM). The second connection is rejected: "Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user ....". Problem occurs only when both: service and website are running at the same time. So service and website are running without problems when they are connecting DB exclusively. My connection string is: "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="|DataDirectory|spider-lab.mdf";Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"
I'm sorry if this is simple, I'm no DBA but have been tasked with solving this problem...
We have a website that connects via ODBC to SQL Server (2k sp1) and at the moment I am getting back about every other time:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
So this is NOT happening every single time. Now I have seen Microsoft KB - 307864 and I can see that none of the databases are marked as suspect, the database I am trying to connect to does exist and is attached and, I have run the command to switch the database to multi-user mode.
The probable cause of this problem is that a while ago we had a hard-drive failure and I was forced to reattach some old datafiles (mdf,ldf) as the database. This seemed ok and I can view data etc in enterprise manager no problem.
I have checked for orphaned users and the user I am logging in with from the webpage is not listed.
So does anyone have a clue as to why this is happening, and more frustratingly for me, why is it only happening some of the time.
I am using SharePoint Services 3.0 (SP1) with default configuration options, which installs the Microsoft##SSEE instance of SQL to my local C: drive.
While attempting to relocate the files to another drive, I set one of the databases (as recommended) to Single User by using the SQL Server Management Express tool.
I cannot now reset that database to Multi User, even by executing the query
We have a new production server with SQLserver 2005. Our department responsible ofr the installation made it as secure as possible, however. I have to put a new backup on to the server from the old production server. We ran into a problem when we removed the old database. I could not longer logon to the server with an authenticated user.
"A connection was successfully established with the server, but an error occured during the login process" "Shared memory provider : error 0 : No process is on the other end of the pipe"
Strange thing is when i create a new database with the same name. The user can logon to the server again.
i'm using the Enterpirse library logger to write logs into a database. When choosing connection string i choose the database i want in the "connection properties" dialog box and push 'Test connection' button. everything goes well.
then i open the SQL Server Management studio express and connect to the databse to check some things, from that point on , when i push the 'Test Connection' button in the Enterprise library i get the error:
"cannot open user default database. Login failed. login failed for user My'server/MyuserName'"
even when i close the sql server manager , it is still stuck - the connection test doesn't work anymore.... it only work when i restart the computer.
I try to add a db_role or a user to all my databases with one script. Although parsing doesn't report any problem I get a Syntax error during execution. I first select the database names into a #temp table which has two columns, ID and dbname. After that I use the following code:
I inherited a screwed up Database and I have to straighten out the pemissions and owners. There were several tables listed with an owner of DSSADMIN. However when I logged into Query Analyzer as DSSADMIN, I could not query the DSSADMIN owned tables unless I prefaced the table with DSSADMIN as the owner (ex: DSSADMIN.table).
At the recommendation of our Developer we restored the database from tape thinking that this would reset the proper permissions and table owners. After the restore a user called BCUSER had ownership of the previously mentioned tables (that DSSADMIN owned before the restore); however when I open the Users list, BCUSER is not listed as a user.
If I try to add BCUSER to the database I get an error stating that the USER or ROLE BCUSER already exist in this database. There is a role called DSS listed for this Database that BCUSER was listed a member of. I removed BCUSER from the DSS role and yet I still am not able to add BCUSER as a user for this database. (Yet, as I stated earlier BCUSER is now the owner of the tables the DSSADMIN was the owner of before the restore)
BCUSER is a user in the other databases on this SQL Server.
Does anyone out there understand this problem and/ or can suggestion some possible solutions?
This is my first time to deploy an asp.net2 web site. Everything is working fine on my local computer but when i published the web site on a remote computer i get the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed" (only in pages that try to access the database) Help pleaseee
I'm taking a database(read-only) backup from one server and restoring it on other server. As soon as restore is done it is bringing database into single-user read-only mode.
why it is bringing the database into single user mode ?
While attempting to set up sql replication in MSSQL 2005 one of my user databases is now in the systems database folder. I need to move it back to the user databases folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've been assigned the task of setting up access to our SQL Server 2005 box. A consultant developing for us has accessing to 2 databases and I've set this up fine. It appears however that one of these databases is re-copied over to the server every night to keep data reasonably current.
I'm not interesting in changing this method as I'm not the maintainer (as yet).
Basically I would like to know if I've setup access to this database (it works fine), when the database is updated (with an SSIS package) the account seems to get deleted. Do the original permissions from the source database overwrite those of its destination?
I want a database user to be able to alter login, database user and database role from my application. so, i assigned that user to sccurityadmin server role, db_accessadmin and db_securityadmin database roles....By now, the user can add or remove login and database user. However, the user cannot add or remove any database role membership. What am I missing here?? What should I do so that the user can create, and alter database roles in the database??
) ================================================= In my VB 2005 Express, I created a project "KimmelCallNWspWithAdoNet" that had the following code: --Form_Kimmel.vb-- Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Data.SqlTypes
Public Class Form_Kimmel
Public Sub InsertCustomer()
Dim connectionString As String = "Integrated Security-SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;" + _
End Class ==============================================
I executed the Form_Kimmel.vb and I got no errors. But I did not get the new values insterted in the table "Custermers" of Northwind database. Please help and tell me what I did wrong and how to correct this problem.
'check to see that student num is in the db Dim connect as SqlConnection Dim strSelect as String Dim cmdSelect as SqlCommand Dim strDbResult as SqlDataReader
connect = New SqlConnection(connStr) strSelect = "SELECT stu_num, stu_fname, stu_lname FROM " + stuTable + " WHERE stu_num=@stuNum" cmdSelect = New SqlCommand(strSelect,connect) cmdSelect.Parameters.Add("@stuNum", txtStdNum.text)
Dim stuFName as String Dim stuLName as String Dim stuEmail as String Dim strRandom as String Dim strPassword as String Dim i as Integer Dim charIndex as String Dim stuMailMessage as MailMessage Dim strHTMLBody as String
In my DB I have a table with the columns stu_num, stu_fname and stu_lname. Each of these columns contains rows with data. However, the proceeding code gives me this error: Invalid attempt to read when no data is present (line 58 --> stuFName = strDbResult("stu_fname") ).
What am I doing wrong here? How do I assign the stu_fname in the DB to the page level variable stuFName?
As a little aside how do I say "If no record was found matching stuNum Then" ... ??
I have a typical scenario here where I am trying to assign a variable a value using another variable, for that I am using two execute SQL task , the fisrt one assigns the first variable a value and then the second one uses the first variable to evaluate and then assigns a value to another variable. The first execute sql task works fine , however the second one fails with the following error
"failed with the following error: "An error occurred while extracting the result into a variable of type (DBTYPE_I4)". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. "
Here is the query I am using to assign the value in my second execute sql task
select (CASE
WHEN Sum(col1) <> 0 AND ? = 'M' THEN 'M'
WHEN Sum(col2) <> 0 AND ? >= 'T' THEN 'T'
WHEN Sum(col3) <> 0 AND ? >= 'R' THEN 'R'
ELSE 'S'
END) as Current
FROM dbo.TABLE1
I am passing the variable by mapping the parameters and then assigning the value using a single row result set. Can someone please tell me where am I going wrong?
How to maintain Database User Permissions when copying the Database from One SQL Server to another(Either through backups or sp_detach). The reason is the login sid is different in the target server and as a result the database user is not able to map to the login existing in the target server. The only way I can correct this is through dropping and recreating the user's again and assign the permissions, or change the system catalog - sysusers to remap the login to the user in the database. I do not wish to use the sp_addalias as it is available only for backward compatibility. Is there a better way of doing this ?

I’ve reconfigured Microsoft’s IBS Store shopping cart to function within a small e-commerce website. What I am trying to do is to modify the code slightly in order to use a third party credit card processing center. The situation is this: once the customer clicks the final "check out" button, a stored procedure writes all of the product ordering information into the database. I, then, capture what they're wanting to purchase with the following SQL statement:
