Authentication Failed On The Computer Running IIS?
Jan 29, 2008
Hi Friends,
I am currently trying to develop a small Windows Mobile Application with SQL server Mobile edition.
To develop this , I followed this link http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa454892.aspx
As I dint find Vendors.sdf database I created My own Database with student table. My database name is MyDB. I created both Mobile database (.sdf) and the same database in sql server 2005
when I run the application I can update the database upto the mobile with no problem. But when I try to Sync I am facing the following exception at the following code.
private void SyncVendors()
{
if (File.Exists(this.DataFileName))
{
this.SaveData();
_repl.Synchronize(); //exception is raised at this line
this.GetData();
}
else
MessageBox.Show("The subscription database has not yet been created. You must first select the Init Sync menu item.");
}
For the replication I used
private void InitReplication()
{
_repl.InternetUrl = @"http://XXXXXXXX/MyDB/sqlcesa30.dll";\ for security reasons I am not using my system name
_repl.LoginTimeout = 120;
//_repl.InternetLogin = "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX€?; //Timely I used these 2
//_repl.InternetPassword = "XXXXXX€?;
}
"An unhandled exception of type 'System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException' occurred in System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll
Additional information: Failure to connect to SQL Server with provided connection information. SQL Server does not exist, access is denied because the IIS user is not a valid user on the SQL Server, or the password is incorrect."
Or (Some times when I change the Directory Security in IIS)
An unhandled exception of type 'System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException' occurred in System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll
Additional information: Authentication failed on the computer running IIS
I tried in many ways like
Ø Resetting the firewalls ( to web server(http))
Ø In sql server I set " using both TCT/IP and named pipes
Ø In IIS virtual directory--> directory security à settings I used anonymous, base authentication, integrated Authentication. The same exception with any authentication.
Ø SQL Server Management studio à view à Registered Server Types à SQL Server Mobile. Here I added my data base MyDB.sdf.
Ø SQL Server CE Connectivity Management à selected my database à and select authentications
this is my log in virtual directory

Im getting this error when I try to synchronize my mobile client with SQL Server Compact 3.5 with my SQL Server 2005 database: "Authentication failed at the computer running iis"
Im debugging through a WM5-device in Device Manager 3.0. I have verified that Internet Explorer on the device manager can reach the synchronization agent. But the same credentials that I use there won´t work in my application.
Im using this code for the synchronization.
Dim repl As SqlCeReplication = New SqlCeReplication()
I am trying to complete the BOL sample "Creating a Mobile Application with SQL Server Mobile". Using SQL 2k5 and VS Team Suite. I have the emulator about to get on to the internet and can even get to the http://sqlce.domain.com/sqlmobile/sqlcesa30.dll url but when runing the vb.net code I get the error 28037 "A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information, see HRESULT.". Any help would be greatly appreciated. No software firewalls are running. I have a dns entry that points to my laptop for testing. The sync function code is below.
We have developed a Winmobile 5.0 application using VS2005 and Sql 2005 CE. We have successfuly installed the Server Agent on the web server and using the url 'http://websitename/rdatest/sqlcesa30.dll' have received an acknowledgement from the server agent. When we set up the Web Syncronization Wizard we kept things simple and opted for anonymous access. However, our Sql 2005 is based on a separate dedicated server which can be accessed by the web server. Our website, also written in VS2005, uses the following connection string to access the Sql 2005 database for our website.
When using the following code in our PDA application we have tried the above string as well as another interpretation with the same resulting error 'A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed, for more information please see HResult'. The code we are using is..
Using rda As New SqlCeRemoteDataAccess() Dim sCon As String = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=172.18.22.222; Initial Catalog=Audit ; UserID=steve; Password=letmein" Dim sCon As String = "server=172.18.22.222; database=Audit; uid=steve; pwd=letmein" rda.InternetUrl = "http://websitename/rdatest/sqlcesa30.dll" rda.LocalConnectionString = "Data Source=Program FilesTestSysTestdata.sdf"
Try rda.Pull("Detail", "SELECT Details, Actions FROM Detail", sCon, RdaTrackOption.TrackingOff, "DtlErrors") Catch sqlCeEx As SqlCeException RecError( sqlCeEx.ToString) End Try End Using
Having tried both connection strings we feel the error is caused by something else possibly on our dedicated Sql server. Would really appreciate any help.
I Have an application for Pocket PC 2003 developed in Visual Studio 2003(VB.Net , Smart Device App). I Use Sql Server CE as the database which Synchronizes with Sql Server 2000, SP4. The IIS and the Sql Server 2000 are in different Machines. I Have Installed the proper Sqlserver Ce in the IIS machine and created virtual directory with Basic authentication.I connect my device through Active Sync 3.7. I could browse the sscesa20.dll from Pocket IE and get the ' SQL Server CE Server Agent ' message. The PC to which my pocket PC is connected is under a Proxy.
When I tried the RDA.Pull() , the function fails and returns the error " Error Code: 80072EE7 A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information see HRESULT. [,,,,,] Minor Error : 28037 Source: Sql Server 2000 Windows CE Edition. "
The same application works in other network which is not under a proxy.
My application is working under InternetUrl "http://servername/test/sqlcesa30.dll", but I am getting following error for "https://servername/test/sqlcesa30.dll"
"A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information, see HRESULT."
We have proxy server top of the web server and certificate is installed on proxy server. There is no ceritificate installed on web server which is behind the firewall. Proxy server divert the request on different protocol based on "http" and "https" request and send to web server which is behind the firewall. I am not getting any error when i use RDA using http for above environment, but when i use RDA using https I am getting an above error for the same environment.
I have smilar kind of an issue with replication. I had sucessfully done replication with Sqlce2.0 on sql server 2000. In development machine I had VS 2003, sqlce development tools.
Now I use the same code done in VS 2003 into VS2005, it sucessfully converted the code.
In server machine (win 2003) I installed sql server 2000, sql server 2000 service pack 4, SP4 merge replication components, sql server 2005 mobile server tools and .Net framework 2.0. Created pubication sucessfuly. In this machine I configured IIS as per the web synchronization wizard. Gave anyonymous permissions. Virual direcory is created sucessfully. I tested the server agent in IE http://myservername/aliasname/sqlcesa30.dll.
SQL Server Mobile Server Agent 3.0 is shown
My application opened successfuly in windows mobile 5.0 Pocket PC emulator. When try to sync its dislays error "A request to send data to the computer running IIS is failed, see Hrresult"
No firewall in both development and server machines.
The same code works if its sqlce20 perfectly with vs2003 code. Not in this
I am using the sql server 2005 windows authentication for connecting my application to the sql server 2005. But somehow i want to create such a login for the database so that any request coming from a particular machine for the database gets fulfilled. Is this possible? If yes please tell me how can i implement this scenario.
I'm developing pocket PC application.. when I want to replicate my data from pocket pc to development pc.. I've got this error on my pocket pc.. "An error has occurred on the computer running IIS"
Any ideas? Any help?
I'm using SQl Server 2000, SQL Server CE 2.0, VS.Net 2003
Hi, i was following the tutorial in SQL Mobile Books online "Creating a Mobile Application with SQL Server Mobile ", but when i try to run the application using the pocket PC 2003 emulator, the got the following error, "An error has occurred on the computer running IIS, Try restarting the IIS server.", any idea why?
I am about designing an access project file that connect to a SQL Server database : it could be either on the local computer or a remote workstation, this depending on where the front end is running.
Bypassing the default log on dialog box i have set my own form that users should use to connect on adp. Then using baseconnection string i connect the adp to sql server database.
My concern is how can i check from vba if the instance of SQL Server where my back end database is located is running in order to make users knowing that due sql server service status off their connection tentative will fail.
inform u i can check same from console management however i would to automate same controle from my adp and avoid that users have to operate such task...
How can I identify the computer of the person running an SRS report? If I query HOST_NAME() it gives me the host of the reporting server, not the person browsing.So, for example, Melissa opens a browser from computer named AAA to the SRS and pulls up her report. How do I get that report to show that the user is browsing from AAA?
In an attempt to improve security for our web server/db server setup, we have a SQL Server 2005 server set for Windows authentication only and a web server (both behind a firewall together on a single local domain).
The web server is using IIS7, and the default NetworkService account to run the ASP.NET processes.
I've given the NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE account access to the database in question.
The SQL authentication fails, but the account failing is NOT the NetworkService account, but the <DOMAIN><COMPUTER>$ account.
Note that if I use identity impersonation with a specific domain account, I can get the app to work. However, I do NOT want to use impersonation, I want the default NetworkService account to work.
Does anyone know why IIS, which is supposed to be using NetworkService, is instead using the <DOMAIN><COMPUTER>$ account to connect to SQL, which is then failing?
Hi. I wrote a view command on server1 like .. select dbo.ordr.docnum from Server2.SAP.dbo.ordr where dbo.ordr.docstatus ='o' and system dispaly a error message is authentication failed. but I use administrator to logon Server1. how to setup authentication between 2 SQL server? Thanks
I've developed an ASP2 application. Locally, everything was fine. However, when I deployed it on a remote server. I got this error: Login failed for user 'domainuserx'. My connection string is: connectionString="Data Source=ServerName;Initial Catalog=Aspect;User Id =domainuserx;Password = abc" I'm quite sure that connection string is fine. I need to mention that whenever I try to connect to the remote server from my client by the Sql authentication, I get the message that login failed for this user. But when I try to connect by windows authentication, it works and there is no error. I asked the administrator, and he told me that Sql Server authentication is in mixed mode. So, I really can't figure out what is the problem
Logins failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. (microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18452)
Hi Guys.
How are you, its something very complicated to understand my issue. i am receiving the above error message when i tried to login with using windows accout to connect to SQL server Instance using client tool.
ok Let me start step by step. 1) Initially we have one box using windows 2000 (OS) and having SQL Server 2000. 2) Here on SQL Server instance i have created windows account login and gave permissions to one of the database on that instance. 3) this windows account is in the right domain and also in the same domain 4) when i right click on Management Studio on the different machine --> Run As--> enter the windows account --> select the above Sql server instance.then connect 5) Here i am not able to connect to the sql server. the below error generates when i press the connect button Logins failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. (microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18452)
if we gave the full permission to connect to box with this windows account then i am able to connect the sql server instance, otherwise its not allowing me to connect to the Sql server instance.
we have another box using windows 2000 (OS) and having SQL Server 2005. i have followed the same as above with same windows account login. Here i am able to connect to the SQL Server Instance and also this windows account donot have permission to connet the box.
Anybody have idea about this issue??? if the SQL server 2000 doesnot have the option to connect remotely. unless that windows account have the full permissions to box. if you have any white paper please let know. i really appreciate for your effort, if you dont understand please let me know. thanks so much.
When I am trying to connect my database using SQL Server Authentication option, then its showing error: "An attempt to login suing sql authentication failed. Server is configured only for Windows authentication only."
I am trying to change the computer name of a machine running MSDE but I get an error when SQL Server starts. With regular SQL when I change the name of a computer I re-run setup and setup fixes this problem. MSDE can only be installed from unattended mode so I can’t rerun setup and fix the problem.
My question is "How do I change the name of a computer running MSDE with out reinstalling MSDE"
I am sync. for the first time (Merge Replication using SQL 2005 and Mobile) and this error keeps poping up on the emulator. I am tring out the tutorial. :) boss on my butt.
Does anyone have any ideas or a solution to this...your help is WELL APPRECIATED ...
I'm working on an ASP.NET project, and we're attempting to switch from SQL Server authentication to Windows authentication to connect to the database. It works fine locally when I debug in Visual Studio, but when it hits the web server, I get the error: "Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection." IIS has anonymous access disabled, and Integrated Windows Authentication is checked. The web.config file has: <authentication mode="Windows"/><identity impersonate="true"/> The database I'm attempting to access is on a different machine than IIS, and the connection string doesn't contain a username or password, and has "Trusted_Connection=Yes", and "Integrated Security=SSPI". From what I've been able to find online, I'm guessing the problem is due to IIS and SQL Server residing on different machines, but I'm not sure how to fix it. Any ideas?
I created a HelloWorld like example using InforPath 2007 and endpoint with SQL Server 2005. Very simple example.
I created a stored procedure that took in one parameter, a datetime field. This parameter is then inserted into a db table that has two columns, an id column and a datetime column.
I took the store procedure just discribed to create an endpoint. Cool. The WSDL is showing, I'm feeling good.
I go to InfoPath and make it so that submit a datetime to the webmethod associated with the endpoint. The data table shows one more row has been added and it is the datetime I sent from InfoPath. YEA!! I go to the Event View and see that I have an error message. The message is HTTP authenticaiton failed. [CLIENT: 10.8.2.26]. Bummer!!
This does not make sense to me. I am able to update the targeted database table but I get an exception. I do not like exceptions nor warnings without an explanation. Does anyone have an idea why this is happening?
I had to give up for the project I am currently working because of time constraints. But in the future, for out-of-the-box functionality for proof-of-concept/prototyping, I would like to use endpoints.
Hi-- I am building an intRAnet website using windows authentication for website access and SQL Server access ( Trusted_Connection = true ). In IIS I have these settings:
Allow Anonymous = unchecked (false) Windows Authentication = Checked (true) Digest windows = checked (true) In my Web.Config file:
authentication="windows" impersonate="true" allowusers="*" When I pull up the page these are my credentials: Security.Principal.Windows: mydomainmyuserid (this is correct what it shows on my page) Me.User.Identity: mydomainmyuserid (this is correct what it shows on my page) Threading.currentThread.currentUser mydomainmyuserid (this is correct what it shows on my page)
So the ASP.NET page recognizes it is me and my domain. However, when i click a button to pull some data from a database I get the error message: Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. My data access on SQL Server works fine. The weird thing is when I debug on my machine it pulls data fine. but when I copy the files to the windows 2003 server it doesn't work. Do i have to do something with delegation?
Would be interested in any advice or comment on the issue we are experiencing with SQL 2005.
In order to test some DTS package migrations, we simply created a DTS package on SQL 2000 (using Export) to copy all database objects from one database to another.
Then we restored the source database on SQL 2005 server, migrated the DTS package, and tried to execute it.
The package migrated 'fine', ran part way, and then failed. Since then we have been unable to connect to the server (Database Engine, or Integration Services) using Windows Authentication. (Error 18456, Sev 16, State 11).
We can connect to the Database Engine using SQL Authentication (but not to Integration Services which only allows Windows Authentication).
We have been able to replicate this consistently - every annoying time we've tried it!
(Reinstalling SQL Server does 'fix' the issue ... until you try a similar package again).
I am having MSSQLServer2000 on Win2k and Win2k3 server. i have to connect these servers from a application using JDBC driver and AD Authentication.
I have programmed all the things needed for AD authentication in my application(changed url , using integratedSecurity=true), and it is working fine when my application connects to MSSQLServer2k5 on WinXP(which is added to same domain of my application).
But when i try to connect MSSQL2000 server on Win2000 server it failes and gives error as follows. I am running two jobs background using SQL agent. There was a power shut down and the two job i was running in back groung were cancelled leaving the below message
The job was stopped prior to completion by Shutdown Sequence 0.
Can any one tell me why this happened although I am running them in back ground.
I am not sure where the servers are located and if they are located in the same bulding .. do u think it is bcoz of tis power shut down only?

Does Anyone of the SQLServer Guru has a smart script to alert DBA by email for failed jobs or jobs running more then their normal time(long running jobs), so that I dont have to go and look at the jobs everyday manually...on different servers...
I have an asp.net web application and a web service (both of them are created in VS 2005 - asp.net 2.0). They are located on the same web server. In both web.config files, I have set <authentication mode="Windows"/> and <identity impersonate="true"/>. Also, configured the IIS settings to use Integrated Windows Authentication and unchecked the Anonymous access (for both). The web service is called from the web app, so I have to pass credentials for authentication to the web service. The web service loads and executes a SSIS package. The package and all the other sql objects are located in the sql server 2005 (windows server 2003 - the same server as the web server).
When run the web service from develop environment (vs. 2005), I get whatever I expected. When call it from web application, however, the package failed (no error message).
In the SSIS package, there are three connection managers €“ · A: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9.0 à connectionType=OleDbConnection · B: .Net Providers SqlClient Data Provider à connection type=SqlConnection · C: Native OLE DB Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server à connectionType=OLEDB
After ran the web application and check the sql database, I can tell that the package was reached and when through the first two steps (clear some records in table_1 and extract some records from table_2 ) which relate to the connection manager B €“ ADO.Net connection. The remaining steps failed which are related to the connection managers A & C.
From SSIS package log file, found that the user credentials (domain and username) were correctly passed from web service to sql server 2005 at the first two events, but the credentials (or operator) changed from domainABCuser123 to NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE after packageStart. Then, it complains €¦ either the user, domainABCserverName$, does not have access to the database, or the database does not exist.
I think the credentials are passed ok but some setting related to the Analysis services are not correct - complaining start from there. Any clues?
i had scheduled to run a package it failed but a part of the package still shows up on the integration system running packages. i tried to stop it or delete it nothing works. when i try toi run the package even in visual studio that part of the package fails.
hi, I'm working on "MERGE REPLICATION"...i followed the procedure same as the book "SQL SERVER CE DATABASE DEVELOPMENT WITH the .NET COMPACT FRAMEWORK"Author Rob Tiffany, ch9,10
i got one error msg that..."a request to send data to the computer funning IIS failed,for more information seeHRESULT " ..When my program hits rep.Syncronize()...
