In its Employee Attendance module i need to keep records of attendance of all workers for one month in a single table. The problem I encounter is to auto generate an exact copy of the Attendance table after a particular month is finished. How can i accomplish this? I use SQL server 2008.

Report Generation Using A Single Dataset, Which Combines Two Tables.

Jan 18, 2008

Hi,

I have an issue in generating the report in sql reporting services. I need to display a report in a table format. The datas of the table should be from two different sql tables. I have tried to write a stored procedure that returns two result sets from two different tables. As reporting services takes datas only from the first result set, i tried to write two different stored procedures each displays one result set. Then i have created two datasets with that two different stored procedure. Even then i cannot proceed as i was not able to use two different dataset in a single table because i was setting the datasetname to one dataset, when i try to retrieve the fields from another dataset i was able to retrieve only first and count values. Then i tried using sub reports. As sub reports for a dataregion(table) repeats for every row of the main report i was not able to fetch the correct datas. Atlast i have tried combining the query using join and wrote a single stored procedure. This stored procedure returns a single result set retrieves data from two tables satisfying the conditions. The issue i am facing with this is, the first table has only one row satisfying the condition and the second table has three rows satisfying the same condition, as i am using join query for the three rows returned by the second table the first table datas are getting duplicated for the rest of the rows in the second table. As I found using join query is the only resolution for the output which I need, and also I have to avoid the duplication of the records. Hence let me know for any solutions.

I have shown the sample datas that is duplicating which is indicated as bold. Phonenumber, Attemptdate and calloutcome are from first table and start time and endtime is from second table. As there are three different datas for the second table, first table datas are duplicated

Phone Number

Attempt Date

Call OutCome

Start Time

End Time

Problem When Applying A Snapshot When Tables Have Been Updated During Snapshot Generation

Jun 20, 2007

Hi

I seem to have a strange problem when applying a snapshot when the tables in the publication have been updated while the snapshot was being generated.

Say for example there is a table called RMAReplacedItem in the publication. When the snapshot starts being applied to the subscriber, a stored procedure called sp_MSins_RMAReplacedItem_msrepl_css gets created that handles an insert if the row already exists (ie it updates the row rather than inserting it). However, after all the data has been loaded into the tables, instead of calling this procedure, it tries to call one called sp_MSins_RMAReplacedIte_msrepl_cssm - it takes the last letter of the table name and adds it to the end of the procedure name.

The worst part is that this causes the application of the snapshot to fail, but it doesnt report what the error is, and instead it just tries applying the snapshot again. The only way i have managed to find which call is failing is to run profiler against the subscriber while the snapshot is being applied and see what errors.

I have run sp_broswereplcmds and the data in there is what is applied to the subscriber - ie the wrong procedure name.

All the servers involved are running sql 2005 service pack 2. The publisher and subscriber were both upgraded from sql 2000, but the distribution server is a fresh install of sql 2005.

Auto Update To Sql Server Tables

Oct 22, 2004

I'm changing data storage for an asp.net project from MS Access to Sql Server. I've got the web site working, but I need to update the sql server tables with data from our Oracle db daily. What is the "best" way to do that?

I've read about DTS, but have never done anything like that. Would it be worth the time and effort to study? (So far I've created a package, with the import wizard, that doesn't work & I don't have the authority to delete :-)

I know I could create a dataset with my Oracle data and use that to update sql server. But is there a way to schedule an aspx to run authomatically? Would this affect performance? The sql server db isn't very big (30-40,000 records), but the Oracle db is & I need to do quite a bit of manipulation to the data.

This is new to me & I'm don't know what I should be searching for to find help. And if there is a more appropriate place to post this question, please let me know.

Thanks.

How To Auto Update Multiple Tables Daily

Apr 22, 2015

I have got 4 MS Access Database Files, which have got 3 Tables each, means Total 12 Tables which gets updated with new data every evening, by an external application. Means new data gets appended to all these 12 Tables.

I want to have exact same 4 Databases, which have got 3 Tables each, means Total 12 Tables, but WITHIN MS SQL SERVER. And then update all of these 12 Tables every evening, with the corresponding updates from the respective tables from the MS Access Databases.

What are the various options to get this kind of work done in SQL Server. I do not want to Manually Update all these 12 tables every evening into SQL Server. Hopefully there would be some easier method to do this in automatic manner.

Auto Create History Tables And Triggers

May 30, 2007

For my company, we have made it a standard to create history tables and triggers for the majority of our production tables. I recently grew tired of consistently spending the time needed to create these tables and triggers so I invested some time in creating a script that would auto generate these.

We recently launched a project which required nearly 100 history tables & triggers to be created. This would have normally taken a good day or two to complete. However, with this script it took a near 10 seconds. Here are some details about the script.

The code below creates a stored procedure that receives two input parameters (@TableName & @CreateTrigger) and performs the following actions:

1) Queries system tables to retrieve table schema for @TableName parameter

2) Creates a History table ("History_" + @TableName) to mimic the original table, plus includes additional history columns.

3) If @CreateTrigger = 'Y' then it creates an Update/Delete trigger on the @TableName table, which is used to populate the History table.

Auto Incrementing-&>Updating Values In Two Related Tables :Help!!!

Nov 11, 2005

hi there,
i am new to sql server database.i am doing small projects right
now using asp.net and sql to create webpages (very basic webpages)
My problem is:

Problem :

i have two tables .....table 1 and table 2.

Table 1 has following fields: studentid, student name, student address.

Table 2 has following fields:studentid and course .
table1 student id is the primary key refrencing table 2 student id.
Now i delete a record in table 1 which will in turn also get deleted in
table 2 . so for eg  if i have three records 1 ,2 and 3 ....then i
delete 2 in table 1 ...i will have 1 and 3 in both table 1 and table
2....now i want 3 to become 2 in both table 1 and table 2...so that i
dont have empty space between two student id's 1 and 3. so this is my
problem....if any one can help me out with suggestions please
do.

thank you all........

DDL Generation

Oct 3, 2000

I have a quick question regarding SQL Server Enterprise Manager. I'm looking at setting up a job to automatically create DDL for a user database. This will be done along with our normal nightly backup routine.
I'm very familiar with using EM to create SQL scripts, but is there anyway to schedule this task? I've considered DTS and some type of scheduled package, but can't seem to find anything similar. I'm thinking I may need a custom task.
Could someone please shed some light on the subject? If not from within EM, how about any third party tools? FYI - I already own the Embarcadero suite and am trying it out wwith that.

Thank You.

SMK Generation

Nov 3, 2007

Server:
SQL 2005 SP2 on Win 2003 Ent. SP1

A 3rd part app is requiring that I create a credential, whick in turn requires an SMK be set. When I try to create the credential, I get an error message indicating a decryption error. When I run the alter command to regenerate the key (without force) it throws an error indicating the key cannot be decrypted. According to a KB article I found, this may indicate that a key has never been generated.

My question is, I have a number of production databases in this instance, including SQL Reporting Services. Except for the SRS DB's, all other user db's are simple db's that don't use encryption. If I run the Force command to generate the key, am I going to break anything? I'm really concerned about report servioces.

Thanks.

RDL Generation Problem

Feb 14, 2007

Hi,

I am working with SQL Server 2005 Reporting Service from few days, though I am
not expert, for some reason I have to run on field without having sound
knowledge of RDL, but need your help, gys. I am using SQL Server Business
Intelligence Development Studio to design report.

Here is the procedure of my work to populate a RDL report

I used a stored procedure for the DataSet of my RDL
Then I drag and drop necessary field to my report layout.
Put required parameters to preview tab and then run report.

This is quite simple, I didn't face any problem with this process, even though
the process may not correct, but working perfect. My problem is
when the stored procedure returns multiple result set. The data tab only
shows the first result set though the SP returns multiple result set, I have
run the SP in the Query Analyzer. I don't want change my stored procedure.

And please give me some suggestions about the best procedure
to develop RDL report in real life.

Please reply me ASAP, it€™s very urgent.

Sequence Number Generation

Feb 3, 2005

Does anyone know an efficient method for generating a sequence number in the following form?

Starting with 2 columns
1 2
----
A X
A Y
B X
B Y
B Z
C X

I want to then generate a third column as follows:
1 2 3
-------
A X 1
A Y 2
B X 1
B Y 2
B Z 3
C X 1

The purpose being so that I can easily identify the previous row within a Column1 group. So given column1=A and column2=Y I know that the previous row is Column3 - 1 where column1 = A. Therefore I will be able to join to the previous result of any row within any group quickly for future calculations.

Any ideas? Thanks.
