We currently have SQL Server 6.5 installed on 2 servers and did not
specify to automatically start the mail client. When I display the Server
Configuration/Options screen in Enterprise Manager, the Auto Start Mail
Client check box option is grayed out. How can I change these servers to
automatically start the mail client at startup?
I am using nt4.0 sp5 with sql7.0 sp3 and exchange client. Does anyone know how to keep xp_sendamil form putting a copy of the mail message in the sent mail folder or an automated process for deleting all mail in the sent folder? As it stands now I must manually delete all messages from the sent mail folder on a daily basis.

Hello, I'm working on some maintenance task. I need some O/S system to start my SQL Service when it found stopped due to error or els any reason. I mean, when due to error if they fail, they have to start automatically by O/S.
I have a SQL Server 2000 that failed to start after a Windows reboot.Agent properties are checked to auto start if stopped. Under the AgentError Log, I have the following data:Information:SQL Agent stopping because of Windows shutdown.SQL Agent terminated normally.Error:SQL Server Error: 1115, cannot generate SSPI context SQLState HY000.Logon to server(local) failed.Help apprecaited. Hello everyone! We had an issue this week where SQL Server Agent did not restart automatically. Weekly maintenance runs on the server each Sunday in which a reboot of the server occurs. Both SQL Server and SQL Server Agent are set to auto-start when OS starts. SQL started fine, but SQL Server Agent didn't.
Anyone know of a reason why SQL Server Agent wouldn't have restarted? Also, does anyone know of a way to set something up that would alert me (through email) if this service hasn't restarted?
I am not successful in getting SQL Server Agent to startup when SQL server starts up.
I believe the problem has to do with a lack of permissions or rights. I will list the steps below which seem to me to be all that are needed to install SQL Server Agent. I used Enterprise Manager to get this information.
If anyone can shoot any holes in the process, please do, that may be where my problem lies.
a. Created NT accounts called MSSQLSERVER for the server and MSSQLSERVERAGENT for SQL Agent.
b. Each of these accounts has the "right" to logon as a service.
c. Each of these accounts has "admin" rights.
d. Each of these accounts has been added to SQL SERVER under Security and Logins.
e. The properties assigned to each of the accounts are: (1) on the general tab -- Windows NT authentication is in effect, database is master and language is English (2) on the server roles tab -- System Administrators is checked (3) on the database access tab -- the master database is checked
f. Under SQL Server Agent, properties, selecting the General Tab, in the frame titled "service startup account": (1) the circle labelled "this account" is clicked (2) the account is filled in using domain namemssqlserveragent (3) the correct password is filled in taking case into consideration
g. Under SQL Server Agent, properties, selecting the Connection Tab, in the frame titled "sql server connection": (1) the circle labelled "use windows NT authentication" is clicked
h. Right clicking the server and selecting properties show a multi-tab window (1) the general tab shows that all three autostart boxes are checked (2) the security tabs shows SQL Server and Windows authentication are in effect (3) the startup service account shows "this account" selected and the account is filled in with domain namemssqlserver and the password is filled in (taking case into consideration)
In all cases above, the domain name is not the domain in which the server resides, but is in a "trusted" domain.

Hi Gnite everyone, i once again need help with a T-SQL syntax for Auto Correction for insert and update when client enters the wrong format, i;e, creating a SSN Data type and a User Defined Procedure that auto corrects input format i;e, user inserts into table authors of the pubs DB 525-477845 column au_id that executes auto correction so user doesn't have to put in dashes for SSN format. Please help me with this syntax .
Hi, My SQL Mail fails to Start. I am using Outlook Express as my mail client. I am not sure why it does not work in one of the servers when it works fine in another SQL Server. Any ideas. Help Appreciated.
Is it possible to manually force/call/start the system AUTOSHRINK process? I have an issue that appears only when the engine shrinking process is running and I need this to reproduce my bug.
I know how to start a "regular" database shrink process with:DBCC SHRINKDATABASE(xxxx);, but this is not the same as one started from the database engine.
Please point me to a link on this forum if I’ve missed something but I could not find an answer to this question yet.
I am new to sql and am looking at running random backups of an sql database. Regular backups are running nightly using maintenance jobs in enterprise manager. These random backups would be started at a point in time just before a specific procedure was run. There will be a user assigned the task of running these backups who has no privilege to log onto the sql server machine (nor will he ever get this privilege). I would be interested to know if there is a way to script this so that this user could simply start a backup from his workstation. The backup could be a repeat of the scheduled nightly backup storing to the same place or a new backup. The db in question is only 150 +/- MB so time involved in completing this job is minimal (the scheduled backup of this db completes in under a minute).
System is SQL 2000 sp4 on a Win 2003 server with XPpro sp2 clients.
Thanks for any tips, hints or detailed descriptions.
Hello! I created SQLServer account which suppose to launch MSSQLServer and SQL mail serveces. Hi, I had a question. Is is good to configure Outlook Express as my default mail client for SQL Mail. I had to do this as Outlook 98 was not responding and there was couple of other problems.
I cannot understand why I cannot get my sql mail to work properly. It was working fine a couple of days ago. My mail profile is setup using Outlook. The only problem is that when I go to services and check the Mssqlserver & sqlserveragent, they are now logging in as the system account, but when I attempt to change them to the administrator account it says error 1057 occured: the account name is invalid or does not exist, yet it does. Anyone have any idea how to rectify this? this is what is on the error log:Error: 17919, Severity: 18, State: 1 2001-06-05 14:09:16.33 ods Invalid session.. 2001-06-05 14:09:16.34 ods Error: 17951, Severity: 18, State: 1 2001-06-05 14:09:16.34 ods Failed to start SQL Mail session..
Kind of a newby sql question, but here goes:I have a sql 2005 database that I have a job that runs Sunday morning at 12:30 am. I set it up using SQL Svr Mgt Studio 2005. Under the Management directory I set up Database Mail to work with my local SMTP server. I can send a test email just fine.I then set myself up as an operator with my email address. (Under operators directory) I then went back to the properties of the job I set up, and under 'notification', chose e-mail operator (me) when Job Succeeds. The job runs, itt suceeds, but NO email! It flat out won't work. there are NO entries in teh( email) log for errors either. Anyone? TIA Dan OR is it better to script these jobs using xml? I don't have time to learn a new thing right now, just need it to work!
I have installed SQL server 2005 enterprise edition on Windows 2003 virtual PC (full installation). The installation went through successfully. However, after install completed, I cannot find any of the client tools under the start menu -> all programs -> Microsoft SQL server 2005 menu. The only item listed under the SQL server 2005 is Configuration Tools, which is used to configure the database server.
I have tried to install the client component again (in case I didn't install them at the first place) but the installation process cannot be started since it detected that the client components have been installed already. I can also see the sql server native client running in the services.
The server engine is working fine since I can connect to that sql server using another machine where I have the client tool (SQL server management studio).
One of my friends has exactly the same problem. He installed the sql server 2005 Standard edition on windows 2003 server (full installation), but the client tools are not showing up in the start menu either.
I also checked the location for the SQL server management studio (Microsoft SQL server/90/Tools/Binn/VSShell/Common7/IDE), there is only one folder called publicAssemblies listed under. Is this correct or something is missing?
Since upgrading from SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2, I've noticed that it no longer autosaves queries that have not been manually saved first. If a file has been manually saved the autorecover files end up in the following directory:
%appdata%MicrosoftSQL Server Management Studio11.0AutoRecoverDatSolution1
However, I have ended up in the situation where I have unsaved queries when my computer has crashed and have not been able to recover them.
I have also found references to .sql files stored in temp files in the following directory, but the files here seem to be very haphazardly caught:
I have an MS SQL Server table with a Job Number field I need this field to start at a certain number then auto increment from there. Is there a way to do this programatically or within MSDE?
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Error 29515. SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Encryption not supported on the client. Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. On Windows XP systems I get the following issue when trying to browse the MSDB folder in SSIS
Client unable to establish connection Encryption not supported on SQL Server. (Microsoft SQL Native Client)
I have noticed another post where several others have noticed the same issue. It appears to only occur on Windows XP installations. Is there a workaround or fix for this?
I've set up DB mail and sent a test e-mail and that comes through fine.
I set up an Operator with email Name: DWhelpton@k-and-s.com;MWeaver@k-and-s.com
I created a job and set up the notifications to e-mail the operator on failure.
When the job runs and fails, I do not get an e-mail and I get the following exception in the db mail log:

I have SQL2000 installed as the default instance, and now I'm trying to install SQL 2005 standard edition as a named instance.
I receive this error : SQL Server could not connect to database service for server configuration.. [SQL Native client] Encryption not supported on the client. However I'm able to install client tools
The setup works fine on other box with the same config : SQL 2000/Windows XP, is there any work around for this issue ?
In my SQL 2000 client network utilty "Force proctocol encryption " is desabled and did not find the setting for SQL 2005 !
Lokendra writes "I have configured the Database mail profile and account in Sql Server 2005 but the mail is not sending and showing the following error message:

but while in the same mail set up in previous instance of sql server 2005 the message was sending very well. After installing new instance of sql server 2005 the problem is arising.
Anybody can tell me that what I can do so that i can send mail using the SMTP databasemail account."
Dear all, I have switched off the firewall settings on my system and as suggested im entering the minimal information and data to send the mail. but still the Mail Task is failing.. plz suggest.
Hopefully someone out there will have an idea as this is driving me nuts.
I've setup a task to email on success/failure and keep receiving the following message when executed:
Progress: The SendMail task is initiated. - 0 percent complete [Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Failure sending mail.". Progress: The SendMail task is completed. - 100 percent complete Task Send Mail Task failed
When I configure Outlook Express on the same machine with the same settings it works.
On the SMTP Connection Manager I have left the default name, tested with both an IP address and Server Name, and no authentication or SSL.
On the Send Mail Task, it uses the above connection. The To: , From: , Subject fields are populated. Message SourceType is DirectInput, MessageSource is Test, Priority is Normal and no attachments or expressions etc.
Nothing useful is logged in the Event Viewer even with full logging turned on.
Hello,Is it necessary to upgrade the Client Connectivity Tools on all clientmachines after the SQL Server database server is upgraded from Version7.0 to 2000?Thank you in advance!Eddy
