Auto Primary Key With Fill In

Jan 26, 2007

I want a table to have an int auto primary key, that will fill in deleted rows.
EG
1
2
4
5
8

The next primary key should be 3 (NOT 9)

This table changes often, so just adding 1 to the last number used, will fast run out of numbers.
The table is accessed by many users, so it can not be manually generated.

Help With Foreign Key Relationship

Jul 3, 2007

When I try to insert a record on my DB (SQL 2005 Express) I get a constraint error. This is my table setup which has been simplified to expose the problem I have:
Categories TABLEint CatId PKvarchar CatName    :
Items TABLEint ItemId PKvarchar ItemName      :
X_Items_Categoriesint CatIdint ItemId
So  basically I have a one-to-many relationship between Items and Categories, in other words each item is associated to one or more categories and this association is done via the X_Items_Categories cross table. On this cross table I set two constraints:

The CatId of each entry in the cross table (X_Items_Categories) must exist in the Category table, and

Foreign Key - Relationship

Dec 7, 2004

I have two tables and I'm trying to create a one to many relationship (master table can have many records in the details table)

I created a column in my details table with with ID of the primary key in the master table.

The primary key ID isn't inserted as a foreign key when I insert a record. I specifed the relationship in EM.

Not sure why the primary key ID isn't inserted as a foreign key into my details table?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Help Needed To Establish Foreign Key Relationship

Sep 28, 2007

Hi i have two tables

X and Y

X is the Parent table and Y is the child

X has gpikey char(14) and Record type char(1) as Primary key

y has Name as primary key and column xgpi char(14) which should be the foreignkey to table X

what approach should i take to establish relationship between these two tables.

gpikey of recordtype 5 is equal to value in xgpi in table y

ex: data
Table X

Define A Relationship In Express With A Concatenated Foreign Key?

Jul 4, 2015

I'm having trouble defining a relationship in SQL Express with a concatenated foreign key.

I have 3 tables. Date, Company and Detail

Date has a PK1

Company has a PK2

Detail has a concatenated foreign Key of PK1, PK2

When I go to set the foreign key relationship in Management Studio 'Tables and Columns', it seems I can only select 1 primary key table on the left for my 2 foreign keys. How can I add 2 primary key tables to point to each FK in my detail table?

Import Csv Data To Dbo.Tables Via CREATE TABLE && BUKL INSERT:How To Designate The Primary-Foreign Keys && Set Up Relationship?

Jan 28, 2008

Hi all,

I use the following 3 sets of sql code in SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) to import the csv data/files to 3 dbo.Tables via CREATE TABLE & BUKL INSERT operations:

-- ImportCSVprojects.sql --

USE ChemDatabase

GO

CREATE TABLE Projects

(

ProjectID int,

ProjectName nvarchar(25),

LabName nvarchar(25)

);

BULK INSERT dbo.Projects

FROM 'c:myfileProjects.csv'

WITH

(

FIELDTERMINATOR = ',',

ROWTERMINATOR = ''

)

GO
=======================================
-- ImportCSVsamples.sql --

USE ChemDatabase

GO

CREATE TABLE Samples

(

SampleID int,

SampleName nvarchar(25),

Matrix nvarchar(25),

SampleType nvarchar(25),

ChemGroup nvarchar(25),

ProjectID int

);

BULK INSERT dbo.Samples

FROM 'c:myfileSamples.csv'

WITH

(

FIELDTERMINATOR = ',',

ROWTERMINATOR = ''

)

GO
=========================================
-- ImportCSVtestResult.sql --

USE ChemDatabase

GO

CREATE TABLE TestResults

(

AnalyteID int,

AnalyteName nvarchar(25),

Result decimal(9,3),

UnitForConc nvarchar(25),

SampleID int

);

BULK INSERT dbo.TestResults

FROM 'c:myfileLabTests.csv'

WITH

(

FIELDTERMINATOR = ',',

ROWTERMINATOR = ''

)

GO

========================================
The 3 csv files were successfully imported into the ChemDatabase of my SSMSE.

2 questions to ask:
(1) How can I designate the Primary and Foreign Keys to these 3 dbo Tables?
Should I do this "designate" thing after the 3 dbo Tables are done or during the "Importing" period?
(2) How can I set up the relationships among these 3 dbo Tables?

Please help and advise.

Thanks in advance,

How Can I Create A One-to-one Relationship In A SQL Server Management Studio Express Relationship Diagram?

Mar 25, 2006

How can I create a one-to-one relationship in a SQL Server Management Studio Express Relationship diagram?

For example:
I have 2 tables, tbl1 and tbl2.

tbl1 has the following columns:
id {uniqueidentifier} as PK
name {nvarchar(50)}

tbl2 has the following columns:
id {uniqueidentifier} as PK
name {nvarchar(50)}
tbl1_id {uniqueidentifier} as FK linked to tbl1.id

If I drag and drop the tbl1.id column to tbl2 I end up with a one-to-many relationship. How do I create a one-to-one relationship instead?

Power Pivot :: Use Relationship Not Overriding Conflicting Active Relationship?

Oct 14, 2015

I have four tables with relationships as shown. They have a circular relationship and so one of the relationships is forced to be inactive.

   Operation (Commodity, OperationKey)   ==========>
Commodity (Commodity)
                      /
/
                       |
|
   Advice (OperationKey)       ====== (inactive)=======>
Operation Commmodity (Commodity, OperationKey)

I have the following measure:

Advice No. Commodity:=CALCULATE (
COUNTROWS ( 'Advice' ),
USERELATIONSHIP(Advice[OperationKey],'Operation Commodity'[OperationKey]),
operation
)

However, the userelationship function does not override the active relationship between Operation & Advice and so the measure is limited to Advices directly filtered by the Operation table.

If I delete the relationship between Operation and Advice, then the measure works as expected i.e. Operation indirectly filters Operation Commodity which filters Advice.

Distributed Transaction Trough ODBC From MSSQL To Oracle

Apr 14, 2007

I lost few days to solve a problem regarding the connection to an Oracle database server (10) with goal to execute a distributed transaction.

The environment was:

Windows Server 2003 Standard
MSSQL Server 2000 Standard
Oracle 10g Production Edition

The connection was quite easy to make with the Microsoft driver, but the error was:
Server: Msg 7391, Level 16, State 1, Line 3
The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'MSDAORA' was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDAORA' ITransactionJoin::JoinTransaction returned 0x8004d01b].

I tried to use the oracle odbc driver, but all kinds of errors were raised, regarding the TNS name and stuff like this. The real cause was that when you create the linked server you must to check the €œAllow inbound process€? in the provider options.

The Oracle ODBC driver allow distributed transactions.

TSQL + VBA - Retrieve SQL SERVER 2000 Data Trough Excel 2003 - Time Out Error 80040e31

Sep 17, 2007

Hi guys,
When I thought everything is okay with this script, I got a new problem...
I have a VBA's script from Excel 2003 that builds sql script and retrieves data from SQL SERVER 2000.
in order to make the sql running, I need to use a multi - batch processing, to pass and execute every command line once a time.

Up to here, I am using a test case with Account number = '123456' and getting the desire results.
The code below is running okay with the test case, but when changing the account number (mark as yellow in the code) to include all the accounts (or just one other account), I am getting the following ERROR:

Now, if I take the same code, with the condition that generates the ERROR, and try it into SQL Server, I get the results without errors.
Thanks in advance,

Pivoting Row Values Into Colums

Oct 11, 2004

I’d like to get some data which includes month values bound to a data grid. The data is stored in a table like so:

Measure Month Value
A June 10.00
A July 9.00
A Aug 11.00
B Jun 100.00
B Jul 98.00
B Aug 99.00
C Jun 0.75
C Jul 0.8
C Aug 0.91

I need to report the data like this:
Measure Jun Jul August
A 10 9 11
B 100 98 99
C 75% 80% 91%

This was simple in classic ASP. Just use two recordsets, create a new table cell for each month using the first recordset then use the second recordset for each row.

But is there a way to “Pivot or rotate the data so I can use the DataGrid? It only seems possible if each month has its own column field in table. Each month add a new column.

I can restructure the database, if needed.

I thought about creating a Cube, but that seems to have its own limitations. For example what if I want to add a Column for Quarter and year totals? I don’t think it’s possible to show multiple planes like that in an query of a cube.

It seems that this might be resolved in the presentation layer or the data layer. Any Suggestions?

Repated Colums Returned

Jul 23, 2007

Hello All, first time post here and really stuck on this issue.

I have 4 Tables that i am Joining Across. Each one of the tables has around 800,000 Rows in it. I am Joining them all on a field Called MDRReport Key.

my query looks like this

SELECT Mdrfoit.MDRReportKey, Mdrfoit.DtReport, Mdrfoit.DateReceived, Mdrfoit.EventType, Mdrfoit.AdverseEvent, Mdrfoit.ProductProb, Mdrfoit.ReportOccup,DevTable.BrandName, DevTable.ManName, DevTable.ModelNumber, DevTable.ProductCode, DevTable.DeviceFamily, TextTable.Text

FROM Mdrfoit
INNER JOIN DevTable ON Mdrfoit.MDRReportKey = DevTable.MDRReportKey
INNER JOIN TextTable ON Mdrfoit.MDRReportKey = TextTable.MDRReportKey LEFT OUTER JOIN probLink ON Mdrfoit.MDRReportKey probLink.MDRReportKey

WHERE Mdrfoit.DateReceived BETWEEN '1/1/1995' AND '1/1/2007') AND
AND (DevTable.BrandName LIKE '&PLV%')

My problom is that when i do this i get back 3 rows in my result set for every 1 result that i want So ill get like

2615681/24/200000:00.0MNY114PLV-100RESPIRONICS, INC.35001CBK
2615681/24/200000:00.0MNY114PLV-100RESPIRONICS, INC.35001CBK
2615681/24/200000:00.0MNY114PLV-100RESPIRONICS, INC.35001CBK

So my result set is on average 3 time larger then its suppose to be, This is also causing my query time to be very very slow.

There are no Duplicate entries in the database where all of the fields are the same. I am confused on if this is a problom in my query. Any advice would be great
