I am trying to insert into a SQL Server table from an Oracle database. This table has an auto-incremented field, and when I try to insert into this table I get the following error:
Code Snippet
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot insert the value NULL
into column '<column_name>', table '<my_table>'; column does not allow nulls.
UPDATE fails.[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The statement has
been terminated. (SQL State: 23000; SQL Code: 515)
When I turn off all the triggers in the database, I don't get this error. But that is just a test environment, the production environment will need to have those triggers activated.
Hello, I have a column that is not auto-incremented. I would like to make it auto-incremented. For the moment, the only solution I found is to delete my column and to add a new auto-incremented column. The problem is I cannot delete it without deleting dependencies on it... So is there a solution to make an existing column auto-incremented or is it necessary to a create a new column ?
Good day gentleman, Is it possible to pad columns of Int data type with zeros?
I currently have a primary key column of data type Int which is auto-incremented by 1. My problem is I need to pad the auto-incremented ID's with ten zeros so, 0000000009 instead of 9.
I can pad the ID's in the c# dataaccess layer, but i need to generate/store them padded in the database to allow direct reporting.
I am using Enterprise Manager and i can see a Formula field when the table is in design view, can i use this? i am just guessing here.
Hi. After inserting data (new row) by using DetailsView control, how to read auto incremented primary key (identity) of this new row from sql database to use it as parameter passed to stored procedure?
I have recently been looking at a database and wondered if anyone can tell me what the advantages are supporting a unique collumn, which can essentially be seen as the primary key, with an identity seed integer primary key.
For example:
id [unique integer auto incremented primary key - not null], ClientCode [unique index varchar - not null], name [varchar null], surname [varchar null]
isn't it just better to use ClientCode as the primary key straight of because when one references the above table, it can be done easier with the ClientCode since you dont have to do a lookup on the ClientCode everytime.
Hi, So I'm having an issue with a SqlTransaction and retrieving the auto-increment ID after an insert. Presumably this is because I have to commit the transaction before the ID's are generated, but I need the ID's before I commit the transaction (because their is another part of the transaction that requires them). Is there any way to get these id's other than maybe getting the Max(ID) and auto-incrementing them myself in code to what they will be when the transaction is committed. If this is the best way how do I ensure no other connections can insert stuff while this transaction is going on? Or is there a better way to do this whole thing? (i don't know really know how to do stored procedures, and presumably this would be the best way, but is there a good way to do it not Stored Procedures) Thanks!
Just when I though I knew what I was doing. I ran into a roadblock.I have two tables, organizations & usersI am building a form online for orgs to input their own information.How do I insert into both tables when the org table needs to know what theuser_id is, but the user_id hasn't been created until the form is submitted?Any help or request for additional info would be more than great.Thanks!
I'm trying to get the text of all my SPs saved into text (*.sql) files. My first thought was to use sp_helptext and bcp the table to a text file but this isn't working (see my other post) so thought I'd try another method.
I can get the code from syscomment.text and concatenate the varchar(8000) field together in a text field. Unfortunately this isn't as easy as just text = text + newtext, how is this done?
Or am I doing it all comletely the wrong way? BTW, I have over 150 SPs so I can't save them individually.
When I create a report, the wizard auto-renames fields.
E.g. if Table_COLUMN_Name=CustomerName, the list column header in the report will change to Customer Name. The wizard figures out Friendly names based on capitalization, and underscores and so on.
Similar behavior occurs even in SSAS projects Dimensions Wizard.
I have a (1) date field and (2) an auto-incrementing ID field that always throw me errors when I'm doing a programmatic insert.
(1) After doing many searches on the subject, I don't think I'm using the correct syntax for the date and can't find any suggestion that works. Would appreciate your knowledge on correct SQL syntax for inserting a "today's date" field.
(2) I'm using the following code to create a new auto-incrementing ID for each record but it seems that there should be a smoother method to force the field's value to auto-increment. Any ideas?
Private objCmd As SqlCommand Private strConn As New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("conn"))...objCmd = New SqlCommand("select max(ClientID) from tblClients", strConn)Dim intClientID As Int16 = objCmd.ExecuteNonQuery + 1
Hello all,I'm a total newbie with SQL Server 2000 and I have a little problem whenmoving a database form Access 2000 to SQL Server 2000.In the Access database, each table has an auto-increment field.After importing the tables in SQL Server, all the auto-increment fieldsare turned into "int" type fields.Does anybody have an explanation for that mystery?Thanks in advance,Yan
I have imported a whole bunch of tables. Most of them have an ID (int) column. Is there a way to set the ID columns across all tables to auto increment Primary Keys in bulk?
Perhaps I was seeing things earlier, and it's really a minor thing, but when I display query results in Management Studio, isn't there a setting that turns the background of cells containing NULL to a pale yellow color? I could've sworn it used to do this, and I've searched high and low for a preference setting, but no joy.
ID – Auto IncrementingNumber_of_Records – IntAccount_Number – Varchar (Format 1234)Account_Number_Instance – Varchar (Format e.g. 1234-01)Other_Field1Other_Field2…etc.
When the Account_Number was initially inserted into the table, a Stored procedure (not written be me) was used to concatenate the Account_Number and Number_of_Records. As a result the Account_Number_Instance became, e.g. 1234-01, etc.
From the ASPX form we retrieve each of the fields above, and based on the Number_of_Records an appropriate number of records were inserted for the Account_Number.
For Example:
Account_Number = 12345Number_of_Records = 4
The result inserted into the table were as follows:
ID # of Records Acct_Number New_Num Acct_Number_Instance …
1 4 12345 12345-01
2 4 12345 12345-02
3 4 12345 12345-03
4 4 12345 12345-04
Now, I would like to UPDATE this table, and based on the original Number_of_ Records (4) I want to ADD, for Account_Number (1234) add an appropriate Number_of_Instances, beginning with the next incremental number and adding what the New Number of Records input is…
ID # of Records Acct_Number New_Num Acct_Number_Instance …
1 4 12345 12345-01
2 4 12345 12345-02
3 4 12345 12345-03
4 4 12345 12345-04
5 12345 3 12345-05
6 12345 3 12345-06
7 12345 3 12345-07
I do realize that the next time I have to update this Account_Number I am also going to have to somehow ADD only one of the #_of_Records and New_Num for the Acct_Number instances to obtain the next starting number, which in the example above would be (8)…
Any and all suggestions on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated!
I have a sql sever 2005 express table with an automatically incremented primary key field. I use a Detailsview to insert new records and on the Detailsview itemInserted event, i send out automated notification emails. I then received two automated emails(indicating two records have been inserted) but looking at the database, the records are not there. Whats confusing me is that even the tables primary key field had been incremented by two, an indication that indeed the two records should actually be in table. Recovering these records is not abig deal because i can re-enter them but iam wondering what the possible cause is. How come the id field was even incremented and the records are not there yet iam 100% sure no one deleted them. Its only me who can delete a record. And then how come i insert new records now and they are all there in the database but now with two id numbers for those missing records skipped. Its not crucial data but for my learning, i feel i deserve understanding why it happened because next time, it might be costly.
Since upgrading from SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2, I've noticed that it no longer autosaves queries that have not been manually saved first. If a file has been manually saved the autorecover files end up in the following directory:
%appdata%MicrosoftSQL Server Management Studio11.0AutoRecoverDatSolution1
However, I have ended up in the situation where I have unsaved queries when my computer has crashed and have not been able to recover them.
I have also found references to .sql files stored in temp files in the following directory, but the files here seem to be very haphazardly caught:
i am using sql2005, the data inserted into the database by using createuserwizrd. after that anyone give me this error anyone ? any thought? thanks please An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. SQLExpress database file auto-creation error: The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the applications App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:
If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist. If the applications App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the applications App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the applications App_Data directory. Revoking read access on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to create a duplicate of an already existing database. Write access is required because the web server accounts credentials are used when creating the new database. Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine. The process identity for the web server account must have a local user profile. See the readme document for details on how to create a local user profile for both machine and domain accounts.
I have an MS SQL Server table with a Job Number field I need this field to start at a certain number then auto increment from there. Is there a way to do this programatically or within MSDE?
I've just created my first projects using Visual Studio 2005 and SQL 2005 Express. This is the basic;
One windows service is created that updates a database. The windows service running under "Local system" account One windows application where a user can see data (and change) from the database A common business and dataaccess layer/project is used by both applications Connection string to the database: "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|DataDatabase.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=60;User Instance=True"
Both application is located in the same directory. When the computer starts the windows service starts and works perfectly. But when a user starts the windows applications the following error is reported "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file..A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share".
It look likes that only one of my application can connect to the database at a time!
Is it possible to use separate applications to connect to the same database file?
I have seen some solutions of which I tried on this form for the error I am receiving, but I still cannot get the issue resolved.
Here is my case:
I developed an app using SQL Express as the local data source. I published it to my server using the Once Click install feature. When I look in my project viewer, under settings, My db connection strings are listed as follows: Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|TAP_Master.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True
From another computer, I navigate to the publish site, install and run the application with no problems. I have on another computer, the same app with an updated version number that I wish to publish, however the difference is is that this published version does not include the database as I do not want the end user to overwrite any existing data that they may have from the previous version.
I publish the updated version, install it but when the app runs, I receive the message, "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file".
I'm learning to use BIDS, and have been going through the exercise in Chapter 19 of the book Professional SQL Server 2005 Integration Services. I'm probably in over my head with this since I've never used any SQL services/software before, but the company I'm interning at wants to build a workflow using SSIS, and for some reason unbeknownst to me, I volunteered to train myself for the task. I'm at a part in the book exercise where I'm editing one of the components of a Data Flow task - an OLE DB Destination. When I try to select the table/view in the editor for this, it gives me the following error:
€œAn attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsgroseMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsCase Study ExerciseCase Study ExerciseCase Study.database failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.€?
When I googled this, most people seemed to be getting it through other SQL software, so I'm not sure if the error has the same cause or not. I know that the file in the above error message already exists, but I don't understand why the task editor won't just let me select a database that already exists so I can complete the component. Can anyone explain this to me?
I am getting a #error in my subtotal and total fields, I have data in a field (on a table) as follows which displays 0.00 if there is a zero in the divide by field, otherwise it performs the divide and gives me a percentage difference from the two fields. This works fine
Yet when i try to get this in a total field by doing an AVG it fails, and gives #error, please help, no matter how many iifs a wrap aroun dit it doesnt help.
I have a select statement which has to convert some date fields stored as varchar based on critera of adding numbers to the date. What I have below will return data show below but gives me an error message when it encounters any data with null in the field. Is there something wrong in my conversion? Thanks
I have designed a CV database with complete CV stored in a TEXT field. There is a keyword search which queries the TEXT field also. The query conditions are defined in T-SQL submitted through an ASP page. There is about 20,000 records now. Now while querying the database for keyword search I am receiving time out errors. Is there any solution other than Index server to rectify this situation. How can I speed up the query execution time. Please advise.
I have just started using SQL Server reporting services and am stuck with creating subreports.
I have a added a sub report to the main report. When I right click on the sub report, go to properties -> Parameters, and click on the dropdown for Parameter Value, I see all Sum and Count fields but not the data fields.
For example, In the dropdownlist for the Parameter value, I see Sum(Fields!TASK_ID.Value, "AppTest"), Count(Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, "CammpTest") but not Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, Fields!TASK_ID.Value which are the fields retrieved from the dataset assigned to the subreport.
When I manually change the parameter value to Fields!TASK_ID.Value, and try to preview the report, I get Error: Subreport could not be shown. I have no idea what the underlying issue is but am guessing that it's because the field - Fields!TASK_ID.Value is not in the dropdown but am trying to link the main report and sub report with this field.
Am I missing something here? Any help is appreciated.
How can I create a Table whose one field will be 'tableid INT IDENTITY(1,1)' and other fields will be the fields from the table "ashu". can this be possible in SQL Server without explicitly writing the"ashu" table's fields name.
I have read all the posts regarding this error, but non-solve my problem as I had already addressed them.
I am setting up Merge Replication via the Web and I get this error when i try to sync. Let me give you some background.
I wrote a small windows test app to test merge replication, in which i am using RMO to accomplish the replication. This works. It syncs every time. I then copied the "sync" code from the winform application and created a Windows Service in which i placed "sync" code. The sync code did not change other than adding the additional following four lines:
_mergeAgent.InternetUrl = _internetURL;
_mergeAgent.InternetLogin = _internetLogin;
_mergeAgent.InternetPassword = _internetPassword;
_mergeAgent.InternetTimeout = _internetTimout;
where the internet url is https://ipaddress/virtualdirectory/replisapi.dll
I have been working with this for a while now trying to figure out why this works (on the same machine) in a winforms app but not through the web (via a windows service).

I am using MS SQL 2012. I have a table that contains all the data that I need, but I need to summarize the data and also add up decimal fields while at it. Then I need a total of those added decimal fields. My data is like this:
I have Providers, a unique ID that Providers will have multiples of, and then decimal fields. Here are my fields:
