Hi,
I would like to know as to how can I put a Current Date & Time stamp on a FILE NAME automatically which is created by a DTS package.
E.g. I create a file named ABC.TXT daily. How do I get this file to have the current Date stamp so that the file name is ABC121201.TXT without any user intervention.

Hello,
I have managed to create a backup of my SQL Express database by using the Transact-SQL from article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241397.
I am not sure if it backed up the correct database, as in the script from the article, there is no where for me to specify my SQL Express database. The back up file that was created after I ran the script is, msdb.dat_bak.
Now if this is the correct database, how can I restore the data into my vb.net project that holds the SQL Express Database?
Thanks in advance.
I am very new to SQL 2005. I need to automate backup for the SQL server which can take backup of all databases from the server at fixed time without using third party backup system. Thank you for help.

to have a similar scheduled backup job. From the reading of the
OLBs it appears I have to manually create a script but I don't know how

1. How do you schedule the running of a back up script in SQL Express? and,

I run the following:
EXECUTE dbo.DatabaseBackup
@Databases = 'F1SB',
@Directory = 'F:SqlBackup2014',
@BackupType = 'FULL',
@Compress = 'Y',
@Encrypt = 'Y',
[code]...
I cannot see the file created in the directory. The account under which sql server the agen job run have full privileges on it and is sysadmin.Then i run the Command in ssms
BACKUP DATABASE [F1SB] TO DISK = N'F:SqlBackup2014<server>F1SBFULLIGS-DB01_F1SB_FULL_20150510_214455.bak' WITH NO_CHECKSUM, COMPRESSION, ENCRYPTION (ALGORITHM = AES_256, SERVER CERTIFICATE = [serverCertificate])
and I get this error message:
Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 13
BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
NOONE ASKED FOR THIS!!! why the heck is BACKUP CERTIFICATE altering the file's ACLs - it's just a PUBLIC CERT I'm exporting!!
in additions MS doesn't seem able to add the ability to re-inherit file-rights from parent objects via the command-shell.
I export the public-key for a reason! I want to import it on another machine (automatically) to establish a trust. But this freaking "feature" is costing me HOURS of research on how to get rid of these ACLs on a public certificate!!!
argh!!!
sorry, I really had to get this out!
why not at least give us a switch we can set in BACKUP CERTIFICATE command to stop this from happening?
is there a work-around? now I need to activate
EXEC sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1
and
EXEC sp_configure 'xp_cmdshell', 1
just to be able to issue a (not working) DOS command cacls... to try to fix the "feature".
there's got to be a better way!!!
also - why can't there be a switch to force overwriting the target file, if it already exists? It's a BIG PAIN having to do lots of other stuff, just to be able to "backup" the certificate!
You gave us "xp_FileExist", but no xp_FileDelete with similar parameters!! again, I need to issue DOS COMMANDS just to do stuff I would not have to if someone at the levers was actually activating the back-brain!
PLEASE give me some hints on how MS recommends to solve these features!
I need to archive files in a database by checking an archive date for the file contained in a field in a table of a database, if the archive date is greater than todays date then archive the file by moving it to an archive folder. I am thinking the best way might be to use a manged stored procedure, but I also need to run this procedure once every 24 hours at about midnight so how would I do thi? Another way might be by using DTS or something. Has someone else done this and how did they go about it?

We are using SQL Server 2014 and SSDT-BI 2013. We have a reporting environment where business users create objects which need to be persisted for fiscal year reporting. Let's say for instance SQLSERVER1SRVR1 they create table objects like below in the reporting environment.
Accounting2014, Accounting2015 in AccountingDB;
Sales2014, Sales2015 in SalesDB;
Products2014, Products2015 in ProductsDB;
Inventory2014, Inventory2015 in InventoryDB etc....
These tables are persisted for auditing in a different environment SQLSERVER2SRVR2 for finance & audit folks.We would want to automate this process using SSIS to create tables in corresponding database and load data. I tried using For Each Loop container but the catch is I could loop the source or destination but how do we loop on Source & Destination at the same time (i.e when source is in AccountingDB destination to be AccountingDB, source SalesDB then destination SalesDB so on etc....
Hi there
I'm getting this message on my third automated backup of the transaction logs of the day. Both databases are in full recovery mode, both successfully backed up at 01.00. The transaction logs backed up perfectly happily at 01:30 and 05:30, but failed at 09:30.
The only difference between 05:30 and 09:30's backups is that the log files were shrunk at 08:15 (the databases in question are the ones that sit under ILM2007, and keeping the log files small keeps the system running better).
Is it possible that shrinking the log files causes the database to think that there hasn't been a full database backup?
Thanks
Jane
I am setting up SQL audit on sql servers in my environment based on requirement. I want to create database specifications ASAP database created. I tried DDL trigger but Audit doesn't support triggers. So I created audit specifications on model database. the only problem with this is every specification created on new database with same name.database specification name includes newly created database name or other methods to create database specifications on newly created databases.

3) Select SQL Databse and type a name.(Ex: Database1.mdf) A database is added to the project
4) Then add table and input values.
5) Set the primary key....

Hi there.
I tried finding any info regarding this approach and I can't find any, so here I am (again!).
I'm trying to create a database using SMO on a freshly installed SQL Server Express (not going through the advanced install, not going through the surface area configuration, so a lot of things are "wrong").
I get an error
- use SMO to try and create a database; this is the pseudo-code combo used:
1. create new Smo.Database object;
2. create new primary file group and data file for that database (using Smo.FileGroup and Smo.DataFile); add them to the database.
3. invoke Create(). catch exception with the following details:
Exception details:
Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.FailedOperationException was caught

CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related

Seems like user rights error.
Long story short, the only way the creation step works is if I change the Log on for the SQL Express service from the default Network Service to Local System (either through code or not).
Now, I know LocalSystem is not a wise idea, but it seems to be the only way.
I know it's probably something stupid, but what am I missing?
Thanks you in advance
Hi All,
I have a web site where the user can select from a list of databases (they're actually all the same structure, but have data unique to each client). Each database is a SQL 2005 database held in the App_Data folder. This all works a treat. Each database is simply named after the client it is holding data for, and the connection string for each is stored in a database that is accessed
However, what I need is a form where a database name can be entered, and I can then create a new database with the same structure as the others - including tables, indexes and stored-procedures. I know I can use the copy database wizard in the Management Studio, but that isn't an option to the users of this system (it's to be used on an intranet, and the page I'm trying to create will only be used by project managers - but these people won't have a clue when it comes to configuring databases themselves). I have scripted a database, but have no idea on how I can actually use this script from within Visual Studio and more importantly, don't know how to configue it to have the database name as a parameter.
I've also seen some examples that suggest using SQL-DMO, but haven't been able to work out how to use it and according to Microsoft it shouldn't be used for new developments (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms132924.aspx).
Anyway, I really hope someone is able to offer some assistance on this one as I've spent a whole day trawling forums and various web-sites trying to find a solution to this.
Thanks & regards,
Paul
I would like to know the sql command to generate all the scripts of a database so that I can replicate the same database for testing purpose. For instance, I need those scripts to help me re-create the database itself and indexes, triggers, and stored procedures of it if possible.
I remember there was a command to display all these scripts in Sql but I forgot it. If someone knows it, please help. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I have a SQL database dump with me. I would like to create a database using the dump. Could somebody help me with the steps?
Thanks :)
I've never scripted a creation of a database and it's schema,I have started to put the script together and wondered if the following two scenarios were possible and if so could the following be possible and if so could you show me.
Scenario 1: Before the script runs it checks to see if a database of the same name exists. In this example the database name is "database1". If it does the script will stop and display a message along the lines of "You are trying to create a database, which name already exists. Please either drop or rename the current database and rerun this script."
Scenario 2:The more difficult one I think. Is that it checks to see if "database1" exists. If it does it displays a message along the lines of "The database you are trying to create already exists. Please confirm that you either want to Drop the Database" You then press a key on the keyboard to continue the script and the database is dropped. It will then tell you to rerun the script in order to create the "database1" database. Or you could even give them the option to either drop the database or rename it with "_todatdate" at the end of it, but if you can get the script to do different things with different keyboard strikes?
