Availability Of SSIS Run-time Support (Redistributable Package)?

May 23, 2007

Can somebody please help answering this question?

I'm planning to consider writing a SSIS package for a new project that requires downloading large chunk of data and transform into the diverse databases such as MS SQL or Oracle depending on the Client's Datbase.

For the clients having SQL Server installed at their end, i had no issues in deploying this package on their server and run it in their licensed instance.

What should be the case for others having Oracle database? Wouldn't installing the SQL 2005 client tools install the necessary run-time services for running SSIS packages? What i understood from the MSDN library (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms403355.aspx) is that there's no run-time support available for running the SSIS packages (unlike DTS run-time support) in production environment!

Would that mean that it requires a SQL Standard edition, at minimum, (as Integration Services is OOTB from Standard Edition onwards) to be installed at the production site to run this package?

If so, the client wouldn't be ready (which is fair too) to buy the new license just to run this package. Is there any work-around/suggestions for this case?

If not, can somebody please point me to the right location where i can download the run-time support for running SSIS packages?

Any thoughts on this is highly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

SQL Server 2014 :: Modification Of SSIS Package With AlwaysOn Availability Replica?

Dec 1, 2014

We are currently using 2008 environment. We do have an SSIS Package running. The package used to run everyday and take the production server full backups and restore into the another server. Then do some delete commands and do some updates in that database on that server (We have some sensitive data other than Production we have to run that scripts in any environment). After run all those delete statements another team will read the data from that database.

We are planning to migrate to 2014 and set up always on and use the replica as the source. In this case how the package will work?

How to change that SSIS package. With the 2014 always on we are directly reading the data there is no backups to restore then how to run the delete statements?

Redistributable Package?

Feb 17, 2008

Does the Redistributable Package need to be installed when when calling reports in remote mode? If so, does it need to be installed on the SQL server where reporting services is installed or just on the web server that calls the reports or both? Also, since the SQL server has the reporting services version of Visual Studio, does that version of Visual Studio need to be updated to SP1?

SSIS And Program Redistributable

Oct 9, 2007

I wrote program which connect to some remote MS SQL Server 2005, create SSIS package and store it to drive. Also it have ability to load SSIS package from drive, connect to server, load the SSIS package to specified server and execute it. Obviously, I used references to SSIS dlls in program. Question is - is SQL2005 necessary to be installed on computer where I execute the program? Since the program works with remote SQL Servers, I think what only some dlls is necessary for the program. Is it so?

SSIS Package Run Time

Mar 6, 2007

Hello all, I have a SSIS package that is importing data from a DB2 database. I am using SSRS (BIDS/VS2005). I want to be able to access the last time a particular package ran in my report, like in the footer of the page. I have found the globals.executiontime for grabbing the time the report was ran.

I want to do the same thing, except I want to call the date/time the last import was made to the database. Is there some easy way to grab that from SSIS, or will I need to maybe reference the DB creation time? (The database is dropped and recreated (for now anyway) in the SSIS package.)

Thanks for your help.

SSIS Package Taking Much Time Than DTS

Apr 14, 2008

Hi,

I have a DTS in SQL Server 2000, Where I am importing some data from a remote server (SQL 2000) to local server (SQL 2000).And this is working fine. it is taking max of 1 min to execute the package.

Now I have created the same DTS in sql server 2005 (SSIS) where the source server is sql server 2000 and the destination server is 2005.and I have created the ssis in that server. The same logic which i have created in sql 2000. But here it is taking almost 10 min to execute the package.

Where as the same in sql server 2000 taking max of 1 min. Why this happening.. Is there any configuration to execute the SSIS package.?

Long Time SSIS Package Loading

Sep 7, 2006

I load SSIS package using following code:

Application app = new Application();
Package pac = app.LoadFromSqlServer(packageName, serverName, null, null, null);

For simple package containing 2 tasks this code executes about 20 seconds.
If I load old version (SQL2K) package from SQL2000 then it takes 5 seconds.

Is any way to increase loading speed for SSIS packages?

SSIS Package Validation Taking A Long Time

Apr 19, 2006

I have SSIS Projects taking a long time to open with packages with a large number of data flows. Is there a way to turn off validation of metadata when a package opens? Turn off validation during execution on SSIS Service (after previously validated in dev)? Or be able to control when validation takes place in general?

In my one package (1 of 5) I have 43 data flows (with a single source to target mapping) in 4 sequence containers, and it takes approximately 2-3 seconds per source to target mapping and sequence container to validate which will translate to 1 ˝ to 2 ˝ minutes to open. When the project with all 100+ tables for the data warehouse goes through validation, I can make coffee in the time it takes to open the project. I have to delete *.suo file (or verify all packages are closed in the designer and save the project file), and when I open the project, I have to jump immediately to SSISĂ Work Offline to set it to not validate the metadata to be able to work in a timely fashion. DelayValidation=TRUE does not help much.

Running in debug mode, has an effect of causing packages that were not open and validated to go through validation though I am not running those packages. Validate once during design and run forever.

Even if I re-open a package that I just closed from designer and had gone through validation, it will go through the validation process again.

It would be great if there could be an on-demand option off the menu bar to allow one to control when validation can take place for a project, or a more granular validation option for a specific data flow or container.

SSIS Package (Data Flow) Validation Time Going Exponential

Jul 25, 2007

I am using SSIS to populate a star schema.

The issue is in the data flow for loading and setting the Fact table dimension keys (the dimensions are all loaded fine). After 16 rather pedestrian Lookup Transformations, I have an escalating problem adding additional Lookup transforms to the Data Flow. The problem is not in execution; the problem is adding more transforms in design mode.

Lookup # Fields in Data Flow Time to validate that lookup
<17 47 Sub-second
17 48 2 sec
18 49 4 sec
19 50 8 sec
20 51 16 sec
21 52 32 sec
22 53 64 sec

While I€™m intrigued by the mathematical progression that is forming here, the issue is that I have at least 6 more Lookups to perform. I hope you can see my dilemma.

I have gone to where it takes a little over 4 minutes each to validate the lookup transform and its associated Derived Column transform and Union transform (Total 12 Minutes). Not only does this add up to many idle minutes to each design step, BUT it breaks the debugger as it pre-validates the ENTIRE data flow before it ever switches into debugging mode.

Some notes:
1. It doesn€™t matter what order the Lookup transforms occur in, the timings are exactly the same.
2. I tried many Data Flow execution optimizations, but they don€™t improve the validation times (or even get a chance to improve the execution times!)

I realize this may be somewhat of a unique problem.

Thanks for any help you are able to lend.

Design Time Support For Oracle Db

Dec 22, 2006

Dear all,

i have a question concerning the design time support when accessing different oracle database schemas with SSIS.

I'm using an OLEDB-Connection, and in general everything is working fine. I would like to access two different schemas. One for production and one testing. So i have stored my connection properties in a configuration file, which looks different for prod and test.

I'm not allowed to connect to the oracle db with the user in who's schema the tables are located.
(e.g. schema=prod, my user=readonly)

Normally i must type SQL like: "select * from prod.MyTable" for my production datasource and "select * from test.MyTable" for my test datasource.

In order to clean up my sql i use the oracle "alter session" command. (alter session set current_schema=prod) The command is stored with the connection properties within my configuration file.

All of my packages start with this sql statement for the oracle datasource. (The connection property RetainSameConnection is true and the package property DelayValidation is set.)

So the solution is working fine.

But during the development i have a problem. When crating a datasource i can't retrieve the metadata infromation or build sql with the provided tools, because of "Table of View not found" (ok, the alter session statement is missing)

So does anyone know how to define a alter session for the design time conneciton?
Maybe something with the "Extended Properties" of the connection?

Thanks for your help!
Sven

Transactions, Package.transactionOption=support

Apr 12, 2006

I want to use transactions to protect my tasks. I have ten tasks that need to be completed in a single package. If any of the tasks fail - I need the entire process to rollback.

I have 5 execute sql tasks to truncate groups of tables in my destination database.

After each of the single truncate tasks - I use data flow tasks to copy the data from the source to the destination db.

Both dbs are on the same server.

I am basically copying the entire db - with the exception of a few tables.

package.transactionOption = required ,
and all tasks transactionOptions are set to supported.

Several questions. It seems to hang on the first data flow task - the output window stops, etc.

If I set package.transactionOption = supported - The package will execute.
If I create an error on the thrid truncate task - all previous tasks will complete - the package will fail on step 3 and the truncation for this step is not commited.

I am partially there. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? I need the entire process to commit if all tasks are successful or rollback if any fail.

thank-you in advance

Kim

Support For Execute DTS 2000 Package Task On Win 64 AMD?

Apr 26, 2006

I have imported a series of SQL 2000 DTS packages to our 64bit AMD SQL 2005 server. I then created SSIS pkgs to run each SQL 2000 package using the Execute DTS 2000 package task. Then I deployed these packages to the Yukon server as well.

I can run these packages when launching them via Integration Services from Management Studio on my workstation, but when I try to run them via a SQL Job or the DTExec command on the server, I get this error. Anyone know of a workaround?

Is the DTS 2000 Package Task not supported on Win64?

No Support For SQL Server Authentication And SSIS !!!!

Dec 21, 2005

Hi

I want to manage my servers from a central location and have the ability to manage my packges too.  Unfortunatley my servers are across domains which means I have to use SQL Server Login, which isn't a bad thing.  However for some bizzare reason I can't connect to Integration Services using this method, only windows authentication which is a complete pain in the butt from a management stand point as I have to copy packages to various servers rather than add them from a central point.

Does anyone know if this bug/feature or what ever Microsoft is calling it will be fixed or know of any workarounds.

Thanks

SSIS Project Support In VS 2008

Nov 28, 2007

This is really a question for MS. Will the VS2005 project types for SSIS projects be installable in VS2008.

A lot of work has gone into VS2008 to allow developers to develop .net2.0 - .Net 3.0 applications in the same environment. It would be a same if us data folk have to keep VS2005 around to support SSIS 2005 projects.

Here's hoping

No Excel 2007 Table Support In SSIS?

Aug 6, 2007

When I connect to an Excel 2007 workbook using the new Microsoft.ACE.Oledb.12.0 provider in SSIS 2005, I notice that any tables that I've created in the worksheet are not recognized in SSIS.

In the OLE DB data source component (using the "Table or View" data access mode) the any table(s) I've created are nowhere to be found in the drop down list. Similarly, when I constuct a simple SQL query on the workbook, such as "SELECT * From MyTable" it returns the error:

Microsoft Office Access Database Engine
Hresult: 0x80004005
Description: "The Microsoft Access database engine could not find the object 'MyTable'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly."

I know I have the name right -- I can use structured references to my named table in the worksheet without any problems.

Does the new ACE provider not support Excel 2007 tables? Am I stuck with using "overlapping" cell references to capture data from tables in my worksheet?

SQLCE 3.5 For X86 CE 4.2 Redistributable

Jan 31, 2008

Hi,

We have over 1000 terminals running CE 4.2 on an x86 cpu currently using SQLCE 3.1.

We have just upgraded to VS 2008 and found the projects have been upgraded to reference SQL CE 3.5 - this is great, as we wish to use things like TOP etc.

However, all the distributable packages only include CAB files for CE 4.2 for the ARM Processor, or CE 5.0 for the x86. Is there a CAB package available for CE 4.2 for the x86 CPU? (please...)

Even just the relevant .DLL files would be fine as we repackage them ourselves anyway.

Thanks.

I've been tasked with creating an installer that will either install SQL Express or connect to an existing SQL server.
Then I'm to run an .sql script to initialize a new database.

I'm using SSEUtil.exe as there will be no SQLCMD if the existing SQL server is on a remote machine.

Can I package SSEUtil.exe into my installer? Is this legal?

If not, is there a standard SQL Server client I can use to achieve this?

Support For SQL Express2005 My Host Provider Does Not Provide Support?

Dec 5, 2005

Reader Community
I've just started hosting my newly created Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition web site.  Unfortunately the Login group membership functions will not function correctly.  Having contacted the web service hosting provider, They replied: "We do not support SQL express2005.  The only way to use the extra functions of ASP.NET2 such as group membership is if it is using an SQL 2000 database to connect to. "
Is it possible to design web sites with Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition that store membership details on an SQL 2000 database?
I've just paid ÂŁ88 approx. $140 for a years subscription, have I chosen the wrong web service hosting provider?
Should I have designed the web site with a better web site design software tool that also makes designing membership login functionality easy, just as Microsoft Visual Web developer 2005 express edition?
Look forward to all comments?

Philip
