BCP IN (Duplicate Key Error)

Apr 17, 2002

I'm running a BCP IN to a table that has a unique index with ignore duplicate key. I'm getting the error 'Duplicate Key was ignored', but my bcp is immediately failing. I'm importing about 6.8 million recs and I've set my maxerror switch to 7 million. Can anyone tell me how I can make the bcp ignore the dup. key error and continue running?

CREATE TABLE DUPLICATE OBJECT/DUPLICATE FIELD NAME ERROR Msg 2714

Oct 2, 2007

Hello Everyone:

I am using the Import/Export wizard to import data from an ODBC data source. This can only be done from a query to specify the data to transfer.

When I try to create the tables, for the query, I am getting the following error:

Msg 2714, Level 16, State 4, Line 12

There is already an object named 'UserID' in the database.

Msg 1750, Level 16, State 0, Line 12

Could not create constraint. See previous errors.

I have duplicated this error with the following script:

USE [testing]

IF OBJECT_ID ('[testing].[dbo].[users1]', 'U') IS NOT NULL

DROP TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users1]

CREATE TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users1] (

[UserID] bigint NOT NULL,

[Name] nvarchar(25) NULL,

CONSTRAINT [UserID] PRIMARY KEY (UserID)

)

IF OBJECT_ID ('[testing].[dbo].[users2]', 'U') IS NOT NULL

DROP TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users2]

CREATE TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users2] (

[UserID] bigint NOT NULL,

[Name] nvarchar(25) NULL,

CONSTRAINT [UserID] PRIMARY KEY (UserID)

)

IF OBJECT_ID ('[testing].[dbo].[users3]', 'U') IS NOT NULL

DROP TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users3]

CREATE TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users3] (

[UserID] bigint NOT NULL,

[Name] nvarchar(25) NULL,

CONSTRAINT [UserID] PRIMARY KEY (UserID)

)

I have searched the "2714 duplicate error msg," but have found references to duplicate table names, rather than multiple field names or column name duplicate errors, within a database.

I think that the schema is only allowing a single UserID primary key.

How do I fix this?

TIA

Duplicate Primary Key Error

Mar 14, 2008

Hi,

I get the following error when I try to insert a stored procedure in an SQL-server.

Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_Login'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'Login'.

My question if this is the real problem or the symtom of something else? I find it hard to believe that try to insert double key values. The table Login doesn´t contain any values.

Thanks in advance!

Error Message On Attempted Duplicate Insert

Jan 15, 2008

Hi All,  I have a web form that inserts information into two tables in sql 2005 database on a submit button click.  I have a unique key on the tables preventing duplicate information which works fine.  The problem I have is that at the minute if a users tries to insert a duplicate row they just get the built in sql error message.  Is there a way I can validate the information before if goes into the database and display perhaps a label telling the user of their error or is there a way I can customize the build in sql error message?  I've had a search on various forums and sites and can't find any info that would help me. Thanks in advance

Inserting Of Duplicate Records Error Message

I would like to know what options I have with regards to trapping a duplicate record
before it tries to post to a SQL database. I have set the column to unique in SQL. But
when I try to use ASP and post a duplicate record I get a system error. I would like to
just create a referential error to notify the user that they cannot post a duplicate record
please try again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

'Cannot Insert Duplicate Key' Error With Identity Column As PK

Feb 18, 2008

I guess there is first for everything...I had never seen error like this before

Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_table1'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'table1'. The statement has been terminated.

In this case Primary Key is Identity column. I do not include Idenity column in Insert statement.

Incidently SQL server machines had cluster failure couple of days before. I am not sure whether it has anything to do with it.

I see this error randomly.

How should I debug it

SSIS Error With Duplicate IDs Of Copied Packages

Nov 30, 2006

Hi,

I recently encountered an error when I created several copies of one package.

It's always nearly the same package with small modifications. I call this packages from a parent package which is part of our datawarehouseing-framework.

The problem is, when copying a packages or using a packages as template the packages' IDs and Task's-IDs are the same. And this isn't only an issue concerning logging!! :

When the parent package calls one of the copied packages the first task is executed in every package parallely. Furthermore ... when I for example set a breakpoint on a data transformation task in one of the packages, the breakpoint is set in all packages on the same task! This is resulting in strange errors because the tasks-states and variable values seem to get mixed up.

Unfortunately there is only a possibility to change the package's ID, but the IDs of tasks are readonly!

One solution is, to create a new package and copy all the tasks to the new package which creates new IDs, but doing so, I have to manually recreate a long list of variables, all the configurations, all the connection-managers once again. Furthermore I loose the layout of tasks.

I found some posts about it here

http://groups.google.de/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.dts/browse_thread/thread/6f85a31ea190608a/0eae312aa8440cf8?lnk=gst&q=pitfall&rnum=1&hl=de#0eae312aa8440cf8 or

http://groups.google.de/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.dts/browse_thread/thread/760093d58bf6ccb5/32ced2f2020ef3f7?lnk=st&q=data+flow+task+id+copy&rnum=2&hl=de#32ced2f2020ef3f7

saying the issue will be fixed by SP2, but now I don't see any comment on it in the CTP of Service Pack 2.

Is there any solution to this problem or official roadmap about a fix from Microsoft??

Greetings Monte

SQL Server 2014 :: Getting Error When Trying To Duplicate Some Code Off Of A Website?

Jan 19, 2015

I found an article on the CodeProject website named T-SQL MapReduce. I'm trying to duplicate the SQL code there into a SQL Server 2914 Developer Edition database I've got, and also the C# code using Visual Studio. I've defined the user data types fine (e.g.: word_t, words_t and so on), but I got an error when I tried to create the UDF dbo.mapper from the page. The error I got was:

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Procedure mapper, Line 5

Incorrect syntax near 'CALLER'.

The SQL code I used is straight off of the page; it looks like this:

[code=sql]
create function dbo.mapper(@documents DocumentsWithAutoIncrementIndexTable READONLY, @sep nvarchar)
returns @t TABLE ( wordindex int, word word_t )
WITH EXECUTE AS CALLER
[/code]

What have I done wrong? I'm guessing that the author has done something like left off a variable declaration or something like that. what am I missing?

Bulk Insert, Skip Rows With Duplicate Key Error?

May 21, 2007

Does sql server have a way to handle errors in a sproc which would allowone to insert rows, ignoring rows which would create a duplicate keyviolation? I know if one loops one can handle the error on a row by rowbasis. But is there a way to skip the loop and do it as a bulk insert?It's easy to do in Access, but I'm curious to know if SQL Server propercan handle like this. I am guessing that a looping operation would beslower to execute?

My Error Handler Writes Duplicate Messages To Email!

Aug 22, 2007

I am using an error handler that was provided to me from another source. However, I notice that there's something in the code that writes the error message twice. I tried to discover what it was, but could not seem to pinpoint it. Here's an example of what my email messages look like:

Is activity file current?
The Script returned a failure result.
The extracts in D:myFolder are not current! Data NOT loaded.
Is activity file current?
The Script returned a failure result.
The extracts in D:myFolder are not current! Data NOT loaded.

Obviously, I just want my email to read:

Is activity file current?
The Script returned a failure result.
The extracts in D:myFolder are not current! Data NOT loaded.

Somewhere, errorMessages is being written to more than once. Need help finding the error.

Thanks!

Here is the code from my Event Handlers:

OnError event:

Public Sub Main()

Dim messages As Collections.ArrayList

Try

messages = CType(Dts.Variables("errorMessages").Value, Collections.ArrayList)

Catch ex As Exception

messages = New Collections.ArrayList()

End Try

messages.Add(Dts.Variables("SourceName").Value.ToString())

messages.Add(Dts.Variables("ErrorDescription").Value.ToString())

messages.Add(Dts.Variables("scriptError").Value.ToString())

Dts.Variables("errorMessages").Value = messages

Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success

End Sub

On PostExecute:

Public Sub Main()

Dim errorDesc As String

Dim messages As Collections.ArrayList

Try

messages = CType(Dts.Variables("errorMessages").Value, Collections.ArrayList)

Catch ex As Exception

Return

End Try

For Each errorDesc In messages

Dts.Variables("emailText").Value = Dts.Variables("emailText").Value.ToString + errorDesc + vbCrLf

Next

Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success

SQL Server 2014 :: Error On Unique Index - Duplicate Key When Insert / Select

Aug 4, 2014

I have an issue where I am getting an error on an unique index.

I know why I am getting the error but not sure how to get around it.

The query does a check on whether a unique value exists in the Insert/Select. If I run it one record at a time (SELECT TOP 1...) it works fine and just won't update it if the record exists.

But if I do it in a batch, I get the error. I assume this is because it does the checking on the file before records are written out and then writes out the records one at a time from a temporary table.

It thinks all the records are unique because it compares the records one at a time to the original table (where there would be no duplicates). But it doesn't check the records against each other. Then when it actually writes out the record, the duplicate is there.

How do I do a batch where the Insert/Select would write out the records without the duplicates as it does when I do it one record at a time.

CREATE TABLE #TestTable
(
Name varchar(50),
Email varchar (40)
)
Insert #TestTable (Name,Email) Values('Tom', 'tom@aol.com')

[Code] .....

Anyone know how this could happen from within the Visual Studio 2005 UI? I've seen the other posts on this subject, and they all seemed to be creating the packages in code.

Is there any way to see all of the columns in the data flow? Or is there any other way to find out which columns it's referring to?

Pivot Task Error - Duplicate Pivot Key

Jul 5, 2006

I am using the pivot task to to a pivot of YTD-Values and after that I use derived columns to calculate month values and do a unpivot then.

All worked fine, but now I get this error message:

[ytd_pivot [123]] Error: Duplicate pivot key value "6".

The settings in the advanced editor seem to be correct (no duplicate pivot key value) and I am extracting the data from the source sorted by month.

Could it be a problem that I use all pivot columns (month 1 to 12) in the derived colum transformation and they aren´t available at this moment while data extracting is still going on?

any hints?

Cheers

Duplicate Key Ignored

Mar 22, 2006

I have a stored procedure that inserts records into a table with a Unique Clustered Index with ignore_Dup_Key ON.

I can run the stored procedure fine, and get the message that duplicate keys were ignored, and I have the unique data that I want.

When I try to execute this in a DTS package, it stops the package execution because an error message was returned.

I have tried setting the fail on errors to OFF, but this has no effect.

I found the bug notification that says this was corrected with service pack 1, and have now updgraded all the way to service pack 4, and still get the issue.

I tried adding the select statement as described as a work-around in the bug, and still can't get it past the DTS.

I have verified the service pack, re-booted, etc.....

I am trying this in MSDE 2000a.

Thoughts or comments? Thanks!
