BCP Aborts When Constraints Are Not Satisfied

Mar 10, 1999

Hi all ,
I have a problem using BCP. The execution of BCP proccess stops whenever an error of constraint voilation occurs. What i want is that the BCP should log the errors and continue the execution.

The manuals states that the errors are logged into the file specified during bcp and proccess continues. Whereas the same thing is not happening here.

I am using SQL Server version 6.5

Please help me out with a solution as soon as possible.

Thanks

Get Ditinct Data If All 3 Criteria Is Satisfied?

Feb 11, 2008

Hi

I have table with 25 colums. 3 of the colums(Chkflag,BMCHECK,UPDATED) have yes/no data type.
What I am trying to do :
If chkflag is No value (i.e 0) and BMCHECK or UPDATED has no value then bring one of the field from BMCHECK.

quote:SELECT DISTINCT BMCHECK FROM FEEDER WHERE Chkflag = 0 AND BMCHECK = 0 OR UPDATED = 0

I am using the above query in vb.net to look for any of above field is blank or not ticked if the query brings any data THEN
---run the other queries
else (There is no data)
---do this---

Advance thanks

UGH! Failed To Enable Constraints. One Or More Rows Contain Values Violating Non-null, Unique, Or Foreign-key Constraints.

Jan 9, 2007

I know this is probably a flick of a switch but I cannot figure out which switch.  Setup is SQL Server / Stored Procedures / DAL / BLL(skipped for testing) / PL.  The stored procedure queries from only one table and two columns are ignored because they are being phased out.  I can run the stored procedure and preview the data in the DAL but when I create a page with an ODS linked to the DAL and a GridView I get this error.  I checked every column that does not allow nulls and they all have values.  I checked unique columns (ID is the only unique and is Identity=Yes in the table definition).  I checked foreign-key columns for values that are not in the foreign table and there are none.  Any ideas why do I get this?

Failed To Enable Constraints. One Or More Rows Contain Values Violating Non-null, Unique, Or Foreign-key Constraints.

Jan 17, 2008

Hi,
    I am getting the above error when trying to load a report into my Web Application, I have tracked the error down to one specific field in my database. Even though this field is a NVarChar field and is of size 30 it would seem that  there is an issue returning the value from the field. I can write it into the database no problems but when I try to get it out of the database it returns the above error.
e.g
MOB 401.908.804 - Fails
0401.907.324 - okay
8239 9082 (pager) - fails
Anyone got an idea on how to fix this????
Regards..
Peter.

Reporting Services :: Build A Report To Show Activity For Reservations Placed And Satisfied By Month By Branch?

I'm trying to build a report to show activity for reservations placed and satisfied by month by branch.

The report has a parameter for the item category and the dataset has the fields

MonthCategory BranchReservations placedReservations satisfied

On the front sheet I've created system wide figures with a two columns per month and a matrix which is also broken down by category (e.g. child fiction, child non fiction, adult fiction, adult non fiction) which has row and column totals.

I want to have a page like this for each branch in the system.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: BCP Aborts On First FK Violation

Sep 26, 2013

I want to use BCP to load data from a text file.

By default, constraints are turned off in bcp, so I use the CHECK_CONSTRAINTS hint.

bcp aborts if ANY of the rows contains a FK violation. No data get loaded.

So if I add the -b 1 batch size option, it loads all data UNTIL the first FK violation, but nothing after that.

I want to load EVERYTHING ... except for the violations. But bcp won't let me. Is there a way?

Stored Procedure Works, Agent Job Aborts

Oct 8, 2006

One of my clients has a stored procedure on their secondary server thatcopies a bunch of data from the production server. (Replication willbreak the accounting software, according to its authors. The productionserver generates a nightly full backup, so if the secondary can bescripted to do a nightly restore from that same file, then that wouldprobably be a Big Win.)Anyway, if I execute the stored procedure from Query Analyzer, itfinishes (after nearly 24 hours) - tested once recently, and I'm sureat least a few times at some point in the past. If I run a SQL ServerAgent job that executes the stored procedure, then it gets cut off afterabout 15-20 minutes - tested once recently with a manual run, and forseveral weeks of scheduled runs before that. (This being a secondaryserver, it took a while for the problem to be noticed.) What are thelikely causes of this?Both servers are running SQL 2K with SP3, and limited to TCP/IP andnamed pipes. RPC is allowed, with a 600-second timeout, but thatdoesn't seem relevant, since both the successful and unsuccessfulmethods go well past that length. The production server is a recentpurchase, and works well for their daily operations; the secondaryserver and/or its network connection might be flaky for all I know,but that doesn't seem relevant either, since success appears todepend consistently on method of execution.

Error 17824 - Aborts My Script In The Middle Of Loop

Dec 18, 1998

Hi,

I´m running the script below:

DECLARE @DTstart SMALLDATETIME, @DTend SMALLDATETIME
SELECT @DTstart = "980801", @DTend = "980810"
SELECT ' processing from ', @DTstart , ' to' , @DTend
SELECT GETDATE(), 'start LOOP'
DO WHILE @DTstart <= @DTend
BEGIN
exec p_pmp_charg_unif_csg @DTstart
WAITFOR DELAY "00:01:00"
SELECT @DTstart = DATEADD(DAY,1,@DTstart )
END
SELECT GETDATE(), 'start LOOP'

I´m having the following problem with SQL 7.
When running the loop, all in a sudden it stops - there´s no
error message on result.
But checking out the current error log, I´ve found the error 17824
reported .

According to the BOL, this error is related to 'priority boost' and
troubles in connection between server and client.

This SQL server 7 has the following configuration:

- 128Mb of RAM, and SQL7 can use from 0 to 128MB
- boost SQL Server priority on Windows NT
- maximum concurrent user connection is 0

Is there someone that had similar problem in SQL 7?

Backup Database Aborts Job In The Agent, But Not When In A Query Window

Sep 17, 2007

Does anyone know why a backup database statement aborts a job in a stored procedure so that you can't handle the error with @@error, but when you run the same stored procedure in a query window the error handling does get run?

The snippet of code looks like this:

SET XACT_ABORT OFF

SET ANSI_NULLS OFF

set ansi_warnings off

set arithabort on

declare @backup_status int

declare @cmd varchar(1024)

SET NOCOUNT ON

print 'Options value: ' + convert(varchar, @@options)

set @backup_status = 0

if (@backup_mode = 'F')

begin

BACKUP DATABASE

@DB TO DISK = @BackupFile

with

NAME = @Name,

DESCRIPTION = @Description,

MEDIANAME = @MediaName,

MEDIADESCRIPTION = @Description,

STATS = 10,

init, nounload, noskip

if @@error != 0

begin

set @backup_status = 1

print '**************** Backup of ' + @DB + ' Failed'

end end

When this is run in a query window, the print statement at the bottom does get executed, but when run as a step in a sql agent job it does not.

Thanks.

Guided Tour: SQLCMD Aborts With Error. How To Create Database?

Apr 6, 2006

I searched and found similar questions on this forum, but nothing quite fits my situation.
When I try to run the SQLCMD per the instructions given on the 2nd page of the Guided Tour, the command aborts with the following message.
HResult 0x2, Level 16, State 1Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2].Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client : An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections..Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client : Login timeout expired.
I had to run the command from the command prompt window by manually navigating to sqlcmd's subdirectory to see this message. Using the Run window results in the command window closing before the message can be read. I tried using both my machine name and "localhost." Same result.
What is a local vs. remote connection? How could I perform this via a local connection, assuming that's the problem? Or how can SQL Express be configured to allow the remote connection? Did I do something wrong on the install?

I have a table called Jobs with the fields:
JobNumber, Name, Customer, ...
And a table called Customers with the fields:

Obviously Jobs is linked to Customers with the Customer<->ID fields.  I want to set it up so that if a Customer is deleted, then any Jobs that had that customer listed now have the Customer field set to NULL.  Can I do this with a constraint, or will I need to use a trigger?

SQL Constraints

Dec 11, 2007

I am fairly new at SQL and also new to this forum. So I don't know if this topic belongs here or not.

But anyways, I found this tutorial online. However, I am having trouble completing it. Can someone please help me?

Given the following table definitions:

CREATE TABLE USERS
(
USERID CHAR(5) PRIMARY KEY,
NAME VARCHAR(30),
RATING CHAR(1) CHECK (RATING IN (A, B,C,D)
)

CREATE TABLE ITEMS
(
ITEM_NO NUMBER PRIMARY KEY,
DESCRIPTION VARCHAR(50),
OFFERED_BY CHAR(5) REFERENCES USERS(USERID) ON UPDATE CASCADE ON DELETE CASCADE,
START_DATE DATETIME,
END_DATE DATETIME,
RESERVE_PRICE NUMBER
)

CREATE TABLE BIDS
(
USERID CHAR(5) REFERENCES USERS ON UPDATE CASCADE ON DELETE SET NULL,
ITEMNO NUMBER REFERENCES ITEMS(ITEM_NO) ON UPDATE CASCADE ON DELETE CASCADE,
BID NUMBER,
BID_DATE DATETIME,
PRIMARY KEY(USERID,ITEMNO,BID_DATE)
)

Directions: Indicate whether the statement is accepted or rejected; and if accepted indicate its effects. Evaluate each statement INDEPENDENTLY.

1) INSERT INTO ITEMS VALUES(1009, Red Bicycle,U01,1999-01-08, 1999-02-10, 30)
2) UPDATE ITEMS SET ITEMNO=1008 where ITEMNO=1001
3) DELETE FROM ITEMS WHERE ITEMNO=1005
4) INSERT INTO ITEMS VALUES(1010, Green Bicycle,U07,1999-01-08, 1999-02-10, 30)
5) UPDATE BIDS SET ITEMNO=1011 WHERE ITEMNO = 1001
6) DELETE FROM USERS WHERE USERID=U01
7) UPDATE ITEMS SET ITEMNO=1020 WHERE ITEMNO=1001
8) DELETE FROM BIDS WHERE BID > 1001

Thanks. I would greatly appreciate your help.

ALTER TABLE users DROP CONSTRAINT dev1

Indexes Vs Constraints

Sep 18, 2001

When I first set up my database, I set it up with many unique constraints, but not much in the way if indexes. After reading more about the benefits of indexes, I'm thinking of deleting many of the unique constraints, and replacing them with unique indexes where appropriate.

It seems that indexes would be better than unique constraints in many cases, because you have the double benefit of enforcing uniqueness, as well as improving sorting capability. Does this make sense?

Drop FK Constraints

Apr 30, 2000

Hi folks,
Wonder if I'm onto something....everything I've read says that to drop foreign key constraints, you have to drop/recreate the table.

I've been able to dynamically create the ALTER TABLE statements for all FK constraints in a database. The way I did was a little convoluted (Access 97 linked tables and pass-through queries, cut/paste from the debug window to SQL7 QA), but it does work. More importantly, it saves the hassle of dropping/recreating tables....Someone with more expertise than I in using nested cursors could probably convert it to pure T-SQL pretty easily.

Just curious...opinions? Be glad to post the code here if that's appropriate.

Check Constraints?

May 4, 2002

Hi,
I am developing a database for my company in SQL server 2000 and I have some
few problems.
Firstly.

I have a customers table and orders table in my DB:

Customers Orders
--------- ------
CustID (primary key) ----------------< CustID
. ^ ProductID
. | Quantity
. | .
. | .
etc. | etc.
|
relationship
(one to many)

What I want to do is:
1) to be able to delete a Customer and automaticaly SQL server delete all the
orders that this customer done from the Orders table.
2) If for some reason the CustomerID changes, SQL should be able to
automaticaly update the necessary fields with the new values in the Orders
table.
Finally, 3) I want to be able to insert a new customer that has an order
and update both the Customers table and Orders table automaticaly. e.g

CustID Name Address ProductID Quantity etc.
------ ---- ------- --------- -------- ----
10-003 John London 33-25 2 ...

Such a kind of insert should add automaticaly the following entries in the
two tables:

Customers Orders
--------- ------
CustID (10-003) CustID (10-003)
Name (John) ProductID (33-25)
Address(London) Quantity (2)
. .
. .
etc. etc.

A friend of mine told me that this can be done using Foreign Check constraints
in SQL server. But I do not know what to do.

Can anybody help me please?

Thank you very much.

Check Constraints

May 20, 2002

I have a question regarding the use of check constraints. I see how to set it up to make sure a value entered is one of a list using this syntax:

([eft_vc] = 'No' or [eft_vc] = 'Yes')

However, rather than have to hard code the allowable values, I'd like to have them read off another table. The logic would be as follows:

([eft_vc] in (select * from eft_t))

When I try to put this in, I get a message saying that constraints do not support subqueries. Does anyone know of a way around this?

thank you,
Darell
