BCP And Exporting Data To Text File
Oct 19, 1998
I am trying to find a convenient way to export parts of tables to text
files.
One way I see is BCP: Is there a way to avoid writing the command and
options into the command prompt by hand? I.e. a way to write the
commands into a text file and then to execute them?
Are there other ways? I`d like to find a way that a user who uses a web
interface can use.
Is there a way to send the text files via mail to a remote user?

Hi. Im new to SQL and I need to export a SQL table as a comma delimited text file which is straight forward. However two of the fields are integers and I need these to be right justified with zero's.
In Access I would use something like format(columnname, "00000000") to get it to work, but SQL Server doesn't like this.
How can I do this?

I have a record set I have to export on a weekly basis into a CSV file for a customer/client. One of the fields being included in the export is a TEXT field. When I export this field, the CSV file is truncating the record significantly.
Is there a way I can get the export to pass all the data in the TEXT field, or is this a limitation on the data transformation, or is it a limitation on the CSV file (because of the size/nature of the TEXT field).

I am transferring data from Oracle tables into text files, and facing these errors.
1. I have a varaible working as an expression and my query goes into that variable and onwards that variable is passed to dataflow task, which parse the query. my query is simple saying "Select * from PLS.ABC" where PLS is my schema, but the task generates error "Opening a rowset for "Select * from PLS.ABC" failed. check that the table exists in the database. and surely the table is there.
2. I have a foreach loop that iterates through all the table names and the table names are passed onwards to the varaible query, the dataflow task inside the foreach loop gets the variable query and will generate text files based on tablenames which i have supplied in another variable to the connectionstring property of the flatfile destination. Is it possible or not. all the tables have different columns and i need the output in text files.

SQL 6.5

Can someone assist me with the following....
1. I am attempting to export data from a SQL DB (single table using a query) to a "flat file".
2. I would then like to take this "flat file" and import the data into a different SQL DB (same schema structure as first DB).
Unfortunately this has to be done in two steps.
Thank you for your help.

Hi guys,
Would any of you be able to provide some guide on how am I going to export the selected data (multiple rows and columns) into Excel or CSV file?
Or at least export into Text file, which I can later on save the file name as .CSV, so it become a CSV file after saving.
Thanks.

Jenson

Normally, whenever I've wanted to export data to a file (which is very rare that I do), I have used SSMS. Yes, I'm sure there's a way to do it in T-SQL, but I've just done an export using the SSMS wizard.
But that appears to me to no longer be available in SSMS 2012. So, how is it done from SSMS 2012? Or is it only done using T-SQL/DDL?

I am curious what the "best practice" is for exporting data programmaticly from SQL Server to Excel. Â Is it best to do it straight from SQL Server, or should I do it with in my C# code? Â My program is going to pull the data, put in the excel file, then email the file. Â So I could write an SP that gets the data and puts it in the file, then have the C# code run the SP and email the file; Or I could have the code do everything, pull the data, export it & email it.
If it is considered better to have the SP do it, why and what is the best way? ROWSET functions?

I am using Office 2007 beta. I have a SSIS package that exports the records from sql server to excel file, when number of records is less than 24000 then it exports well, but if number of records is greater than 24000 than it does not export anything to excel file.
But when I give administrative privilages to the service account under which the SSIS package is running, it export even more than 24000.
On prod server giving administrative privilages to service account is not a good option. I don't know what are the minimum permissions it needs while exporting more data into excel 2007 file.
I thought this is the problem in office 2007 beta, but same behaviour is with RTM also.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
There's a lot of information on importing data from text files, but not a lot on exporting data to text files... I've checked but found no info on this.
I'm trying to export data from SQL Server to a fixed-width flat file and wondering if I'm doing it the right way.
I use a view as source (using a OLEDB connection manager) and I can see the data without problem.
I defined a Flat File Destination (using a flat file connection manager). When setting up the flat file connection manager, I am asked for a file... Does this mean one should create manually a template file with the desired output format? So I used a production file as template since we're replacing an existing process.
After having set up everything, I run the SSIS only to see all the data on the same row. There are no CRLF...
When I create the file connection manager, there's no way to mention the row delimiter. In the properties I see a "Row Delimiter" field and when I try with "{CR}{LF}" it makes no difference. Interesting to note that, contrary to the HeaderRowDelimiter field, the RowDelimiter field has no drop-down control to give choices.
So I had to return the CRLF as the last field of the source view (SELECT .... ,'CRLF' = CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) FROM ...) to make it work.
Seems odd... Is it the way to go?
Thanks

I have problems when exporting data into Excel file from SSIS. It all works fine with numeric columns but an apostrophe is attached at the beginning of each text cell. I tried using derived columns and data conversions but it didn't work. It seems to me that problem is in 'excel destination' task... I saw many people had this kind of problems too... Is there any solution possible?
Thanks.

I have a table that I am exporting via a SQL server table to a csv file, via the flat file connection manager within SSIS. My issue is that one of the fields in my table contains "," (commas), so when the file is created it creates new columns in the csv file because the field is "," comma delimited on the column. Is there anyway to get round this without having to get rid of commas in my table (which I've tried and works)?

Hi
I'm using SSIS to export views & tables in SQL 2005 to csv files. My problem is that when I select that I want to use " as a text qualifier, it also uses them to surround non-text fields such as time/date and integer fields.
In SQL 2000 I used DTS packages and they handled the data without any issues.
Can anyone help?

The ERP manufacturer used an image data type to store large text data fields. I am trying to move these data types from one database to another database using either Sql Queries or MS Access. I can cast them as an 8000 char varchar to read them directly but have no luck importing into these image data fields.
Access and Crystal are not able to read these fields directly.
Any suggestions? Most information about these fields has to do with loading files but I am just moving data.
Thanks,
Ray

Hey All,
I am developing a data acquistion system which monitors the amount of energy that a user consumes in different parts of a house and displays the information in real time on their computer screen. I am collecting the data through tranducers attached to the circuit breakers in the breaker box and sending the data to analog-to-digital converter channels in a MCU. I am retrieving the data from the serial port and storing it to a text file. Each line of data in the text file represents three fields which are separated by commas. I will be reading data from multiple data collection boxes so the first field is the unit number, the second fied represents the analog-to-digital converter channel number from each unit, and the third field is the data that is collected from the ATD channel. I am trying to use SSE to retrieve the data from the text file, and parse each line of data into individual columns in a databse. Then I want to be able to extract the data associated with a particular ATD channel number from the databse and display it in the appropriate text field on a windows form.
I've got the MCU programmed. I have no problem collecting the data from the serial port, and I can do the visual basic programming okay. I have absolutely no clue how to read the data into the database, continuosly read new values into the databse, and then access the stored data to update the text fields on the form. Please help if you can, I've been working on this specific problem for a couple of weeks and I'm not making any progress. Thanks.

I have a text file of dates and numbers that I want to insert into a table. There are way too many rows of data in the file to do this by hand.
Question == How can I essentially insert the text file into my table?

Hi, I just started using SQL Server 2005 and I'm trying to find out how to do a sql dump on a table, but this is proving more challenging then it should be.
I usually use mysql with a program called navicat, and all you do is right click on the table and select dump... Inserting the data back in is just as simple. I have also used sql server 2000 awhile back and I know there was a dumping utility for it.
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to dump data to a .sql file and reinsert that data? Thanks!

I have text output files which are semi-structured.(Headers + irregular length tables below)
Is there a simple method of getting them into sql format(line by line) to try and extract data from them?
I know this won't be easy but its been worrying me for a long time. I have a method of importing the data into excel, but although difficult, it must be possible to get a system to get it into sql server. This must be a fairly common issue.
