BCP Output With Header And Trailer

Jul 20, 2005

I'm copying data out to a file with pipe delimiters. I would like to
add a header and trailer.

Is this possible? If so, please help me with the steps.

Also, is it possible to append to a text file while doing the bcp? If
so, how?

Hide Table Header In Csv Output

Mar 20, 2008

Help,

I am trying to create a csv file without the field header information. First, I hid the table header row, then each column header separately, then removed the table header alltogether, but when I print to a CSV file the field headers still show up. This file is going to be use as input to another application and they do not want the header information.

What I get now:

OrderNo,OrderDate,OrderAmt
1,3/1/08, 25.00
2,3/1/08,25.00
3,3/1/08,25.00
4,3/1/08,25.00

What I want:

1,3/1/08, 25.00
2,3/1/08,25.00
3,3/1/08,25.00
4,3/1/08,25.00

Thanks for any help,

Fred

Subreport Header Which Contains No Records, Is Added To The CSV Output

Apr 9, 2008

Hi All,

I've got a main report with five subreports. Based on a value of a parameter in the main report one the subreports is filled with data, all the other subreports will have no records. When the report is displayed in on the reportserver it is working fine, bit when I export the data to a CVS format, also the element names of the subreports are added to the CSV Output.

When i change the value of Data Output of the subreport item in the main report to Auto it doesn't export the records of the filled subreport.

How can I disable the export of the dataelement names in the CSV export?

Hope you can help

Thanks,

Eric

SQL Agent Jobstep Output File Contains Automatically Generated Header

Mar 28, 2007

Hi,

I've created a stored procedure that creates a script to create a number of objects within the database (based on what existing objects are in the database). From Management Studio, this works fine, and the output is exactly as I want it.

I'm now trying to create a job that will execute this stored procedure, and deposit the results into a file somewhere on the server. When the job runs, the script is created in the correct place and is essentially ok.

However, there are a couple of questions I'd like to ask.

Why does SQL Server Agent put a header at the top of the output file? I was hoping to be able to use that output file 'as is' and execute it automatically to recreate my objects when required. (Obviously, I can manually remove the header, but this is an inconvenience in this situation). How do I stop it?

Also, when executed from SSMS, the output is correctly line-spaced. But, the output from the scheduled job adds an extra line between each line of text, which is, again, inconvenient. Why does it do this, and how can I prevent this (again, without manually editting the output)?

Any thoughts and help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Simon

How Do I Check If The Trailer Row Is The Last Row?

Jun 5, 2007

Hello,

I need to import and validate a flat text file. The text file has a header and a trailer row. I have been able to implement everything except the following requirement:

I should check if the header row is the very first row of the file and if not, fail the import. I should also check if the trailer row is the very last row of the file and if not fail the import. The header and trailer rows themselves have a different format than the actual content rows and are not imported into the database, so I cannot do the check there.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Rosen

Integration Services :: Adding Trailer Record To End Of A File?

Apr 27, 2011

I have an SSIS package which takes a SQL Query and generates a PIPE (|) delimited flat file. Simple enough. However, I also need to add a Trailer record at the bottom of the file (footer). To make this happen I could either do a UNION ALL on the same query script or what I've done is to create another query with the Trailer record and using the Merge component simply merged and appended the trailer record at the botton of the actual file.

The issue, however, is that the trailer record is always including extra PIPES at the end of the trailer. According to business, this wouldn't load properly at our vendor side due to the extra pipes in the trailer record as it'll be seen as additional columns.

Is there anyway to get rid of those extra pipes at the end of the trailer?

Trailer record should look like this:

TRAILER|A|B|C|D|

As of now, the appended Trailer record looks like this (additional pipes for each column in the main query script):

TRAILER|A|B|C|D|||||||||||||||||

Transact SQL :: Output A File With A File Header

Aug 27, 2015

In my SSIS Package, I have to write my [FileHeaderRecord] row, then my [BatchHeaderRecord] row, then my details. How can I do this in a SQL Server Query? When I try my SSIS, my file looks like so..

FHTEST 00000208262015             BH000208262015

I want my BH, Batch Header data, to appear on a new row in the file.Do I have to build a dynamic query to do this?Is there any trick in SSIS to do something like this?I did try creating separate Data Flow Tasks to Query the [FileHeaderRecord] and then use a Flat File Destination and then another Data Flow Task to Query the [BatchHeaderRecord] and use a Flat File Destination again NOT overwriting the file.

SSRS 2005: Report Header Does Not Export To Excel As Page Header

Mar 13, 2008

I need some help. I am writing a report in SSRS 2005 that I then need to export to Excel. When I put a report header I would expect the header to not display in the Excel spreadsheet until the Print Preview or the Print. The report footer works just fine I put some text in the footer, and it shows up in the footer. The header though, shows up as a row in the Excel spreadsheet that then causes columns to merge. How do I get the report header to act like a page header?

Page Header And Table Header Display But Groups And Rows Do Not

Nov 6, 2007

I have a report that I created and the report was working until I added some fields to a group footer row in a table.

My table has 5 group levels. I had information displaying in the 5th level header group and detail. It was working fine. Then I added some fields to the 4th level group footer. Now it displays only the Page header, Table header, and the 4th level group footer data.

What happened to the rest of the data?

All the cells and rows I want to display have the Visibility Hidden set to false. I tried removing the objects I added (to the 4th level group footer) and it still does not work. Is this a bug or did I set something that is hiding the data.

Thanks,

Fred

Number Of ROWS Of Output Of Aggregate Transformation Sometimes Doesn't Match The Output From T-SQL Query

Dec 25, 2006

While using Aggregate Transformation to group one column, the rows of output sometimes larger than the rows returned by a T-SQL statement via SSMS.

For example, the output of the Aggregate Transformation may be 960216 ,but the

'Select Count(Orderid) From ... Group By ***' T-SQL Statement returns 96018*.

I'm sure the Group By of the Aggregate Transformation is right!

But ,when I set the "keyscale" property of the transformation, the results match!

In my opinion, the "keyscale" property will jsut affects the performance of the transformaiton, but not the result of the transformation.

Thanks for your advice.

Output And Error Output Write The Same Table At The Same Time, Stall The Process.

Aug 30, 2006

Hi

I have Lookup task to determine if source data should be updated to or insert to the customer table. After Lookup task, the Error Output pipeline will redirect to insert new data to the table and the Output pipeline will update customer table. But these two tasks will be processing at the same time which causes stall on the process. Never end.....

The job is similiart to what Slow Changing Dimention does but it won't update the table at the same time.

What can I do to avoid such situation?

Thanks in advance,

Using Output From A Stored Procedure As An Output Column In The OLE DB Command Transformation

Dec 8, 2006

I am working on an OLAP modeled database.

I have a Lookup Transformation that matches the natural key of a dimension member and returns the dimension key for that member (surrogate key pipeline stuff).

I am using an OLE DB Command as the Error flow of the Lookup Transformation to insert an "Inferred Member" (new row) into a dimension table if the Lookup fails.

The OLE DB Command calls a stored procedure (dbo.InsertNewDimensionMember) that inserts the new member and returns the key of the new member (using scope_identity) as an output.

What is the syntax in the SQL Command line of the OLE DB Command Transformation to set the output of the stored procedure as an Output Column?

I know that I can 1) add a second Lookup with "Enable memory restriction" on (no caching) in the Success data flow after the OLE DB Command, 2) find the newly inserted member, and 3) Union both Lookup results together, but this is a large dimension table (several million rows) and searching for the newly inserted dimension member seems excessive, especially since I have the ID I want returned as output from the stored procedure that inserted it.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

CSV Header Rows

May 30, 2008

Hello.

I am seeing some behaviour I don't understand. I can't believe it hasn't been discussed here before, but my searches have returned nothing.

Here it is.

I have a CSV file. Its first rows look like this:

# 3_results/ABC.csv
# Created from data/clean/
# OS Unix, host smac.local, user ge
col1,col2,col3,col4,col5,col6,col7,col8,col9,col10,col11,col12,col13
38, 2008-05-05 14:35:05, 92,0,0,FFF,1,0,1,0,1,0,0
41, 2008-05-05 14:35:10, 4,1,0,GGG,1,0,0,1,0,0,0
75, 2008-05-05 14:35:26, 2,1,0,HHH,1,0,0,1,0,0,0
183, 2008-05-05 14:35:26, 4,1,0,III,0,0,0,0,0,1,0
347, 2008-05-05 14:35:28, 11,0,0,JJJ,0,0,0,0,0,1,0
365, 2008-05-05 14:35:28, 0,1,0,KKK,0,0,0,1,0,0,0
41, 2008-05-05 14:35:29, 18,0,0,LLL,1,0,0,1,0,0,0
286, 2008-05-05 14:35:30, 3,1,0,MMM,0,0,0,0,1,0,0

So, there are three lines of miscellaneous information, one line of column names, and the data to be imported begins on row 5.

So I import with this:

BULK INSERT tableName FROM 'file.csv'
WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ',',FIRSTROW = 5)

And the first line to be imported is the one beginning with 183!

This does what I want:

BULK INSERT tableName FROM 'file.csv'
WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ',',FIRSTROW = 2)

I can insert as many lines starting with # as I want and it works fine.

What is going on?

Thanks.

Add A Header Row To Record Set

Aug 8, 2007

I am using SQL Query Analizer and i am creating a statement like

select id, product, image, price
from products

and then taking the resulting set and doing a save to tab delemited file that i use for uploading to a third party site...

Problem is that i need row 1 to have the column names so they will be included on the tab delemited file?

How would i write that into the select statement?

any help would be great!!!

Log File With Header Row Only.

Aug 16, 2007

I have a parent a package which contains a bunch of Execute Package tasks. The parent package sets a variable which contains the directory for writing logs to. Each child is configured to write logs to a text file, and uses a connection manager for doing so. The connection manager uses an expression for setting the connection string, and in this expression the log directory varaible is used (e.g. @[User::LogDir] + "\FileName.log").

Now the problem is this, when I run the ETL, I'm getting 2 set of log files for each package: one log file is created in C: and the other in the correct dirctory. Each log in C: just contains a single header row, and the corresponding log file in the logging dir contains the log data (including the header row). Even though the filename is specified in an expression, a value for the connection string appears in the properties for the connection manager ("Filename" which probably where the C: log files are coming from). I can't seem to remove this value, and I don't want to hard-code it to a fixed path. I've also set DelayValidation to True, with no luck. I feel I must be missing something obvious, any suggestions? Thanks!

Report Header

May 30, 2007

Hi,
I need to create a report header that will only be shown on the first page. And I want to use the built in header system that is included with report. I can't create a custom header on the body part because I am using multiple columns for report rendering. Currently the header system either displays the header on all pages or it shows in all pages except the first or last page. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
