Keeping Text Format After Stored In The Data Base.
Jan 14, 2004I want the users of my site to be able to write a couple of paragraphs, save it to SQL Server and then have it read back and look the same. I don't want the users to be able to add any html to the text they submit. I just want them to be able to seperate or indent their paragraphs.
At one point, I had a textbox that saved text to the server and read it back the same way it was originally inputed. However, I can't figure our what I had done to make it work.
Any ideas?

Hi there
I just want to create Stored Procedure which will do following thing
i) Create a text file, which will have a Schema Script(including all the constraint & others, for a database(by passing Parameter)
ii) the same file must also have, all the data from the selected database tables,in again plain text format (could be CSV, or Tab SV, etc...)
I mean to say, the file should be act as the full backup of database, in plain text.
The same need to be done in the reverse order,this SP will do following things
i)Open the file created by first SP, create new database, with same name as backup in SP one
ii) create the tables, by reading the Schema script.
iii) Insert all the data in corrsponding tables.
For EX:
--creating backup
sp_CreateDatbaseBackup('DatabaseName')
--Restoring
sp_RestoreDatabaseBackup('FileName')
I know abou the Backup & restore in SQL Server 2005, but they gives me backup as .bkp file which is not editable. I too cant use the SSIS(just only SPs)
I want an editable full Backup and Restore.
Please help me in creating these SPs or any other idea, solution ?
OR
any other FREE third party tool which will make the Full database backup & restore in one go & in plain text file.

I'm looking for when the stored procedure get executed, the backup start right away. I believe it also require a username and password as well.

May 16, 2014I am trying to modify a script that to back databsae in t-sql.I put it in a stored procedure with one paramenter dbname.I would like if a dbname is passed when calling the sproc, it will only backup this database, if no paramenter is entered, the dbname is null, then backup all user databases- no system databases.But I have difficulty to define this two situations in code.

I created a test stored procedure in MS SQL 2000. When the problem in my app was fixed, I deleted this test stored procedure. But the backup job thinks this procedure still exist and so backup job would failed. How can I fix this problem?

SQL Server 2008 :: Backup Of Distribution Database Hangs On Stored Procedure
Nov 29, 2014Have a server running 14 production databases, 12 of which are replicated (transactional replication) to a second server for reporting. Distributor on same machine as publishers. All set to 'SyncWithBackup' = true, distribution set to Full recovery mode, log backups every 30 minutes, full backup nightly. This generally runs just fine.
Occasionally, the process 'hangs' indefinitely (has gone 12 hours or more before being caught) and I need to stop the backup job, stop one or more of the log reader agents, and restart everything, and it proceeds just fine. Annoying, but not fatal, and not very often.
This time, no matter what, the backup job hangs when it runs. This is true whether it is the FULL backup or just a Transaction Log backup. It hangs on the stored procedure sp_msrepl_backup_start, at the point where it is attempting to update the table 'MSrepl_backup_lsns'. When it is hung like this, all of the log reader agent jobs are also hung, blocked by this stored proc. I've tried stopping ALL of the log reader agents prior to starting the backup, but the backup process still hangs up at the same spot and never ends.
I can run the select statement in that SP that gathers the data for the databases 'manually' in a query window and it finishes in about 10 seconds. It actually seems to be hung up on the 'UPDATE' statement. When it is hung, I cannot SELECT from MSrepl_backup_lsns unless I append WITH (NOLOCK) to the statement. Nothing else I can find indicates that there is anything else locking that table. DBCC OPENTRAN shows that there is a lock on that table held by that stored proc -- but I can't see any reason why it won't update the table (17 total records) and move on.
As I said, normally this runs just fine. Totally baffled by what may be causing this at this time.

In the stored procedure I try to use the x: drive and that does not work. I have tried obtaining the \192.168.x.x address and that only works on some of my servers. All are running SQL 2000, some are using Win2K and Win2003. It does not seem to matter. One of them that is using Win2003 only fails occationally.
I notice when I do a
exec master..xp_cmdshell 'x:'
The system cannot find the drive specified.
Yet, when I go to the server there is an x drive.
I am using the sqlserv user to run the job and that use is an administrator on the local machine. This is a virtual machine. We add the X before the osql and drop it after the command finishes.

connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a
database location within the applications App_Data directory. The

the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web
server account must have read and write access to the applications

server account only requires read and write access to the applications

on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the
provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database
already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to

Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine.
