How can I resolve this error message I keep getting when I try to backup my database?

Is there any way to emulate the try/catch mechanism that SqlServer2005 provides using SqlServer2000? Or more simply, Is there any kind of IGNORE_ERROR or CONTINUE_ON_ERROR setting for SqlServer 2000?

Hi,One of our backup jobs failed this morning but nothing got written intowin nt application event log. This way our MOM 2005 couldn't generatean alert on this event since mom inspetcs application event log forthat purpose (event id 17055). I see backup errors about 10 days ago inthe appl log. In my SSIS package, I have a backup database task. When I run the package with DestinationAutoFolderPath set to a folder ("Network Service" account has full permission on this folder) and DestinationCreationType set to Auto, the task works just fine creating a backup with its own name. (similar to database_date<count>).
But what I want is in my front-end I am allowing the user to specify the name of the backup file. So I want the task to create the backup file in the name I supply. I set the DestinationCreationType to manual and in the application code added the DestinationManualList with the path from the UI.
Now the pacakge runs fine but does not take any backup. There is no errors as well. If I set the FailPackageOnFailure and FailParentOnFailure to true, then I am getting the DTSExecResult.Failure but I am not getting the actual error from the backup database task.
I have scheduled full backup daily at morning 6:00. It was running fine till yesterday. Suddenly today morning it failed giving following error....

I have a production SQLServer 6.5 on Nt 3.51 SP4 that had problems two weeks ago, an I had to restore the backup of the previous night.
we are testing our disaster recovery procedures on another server, identical to the production one.
We have installed NT 3.51 SP 4 and SQLServer 6.5 in the same order and with the same configuration of the production server, but i can't restore on the test server the backup files that i have succesfully resotred on the production server.
we make the SQLServer back up on file ( and then we backup those files on tape with NT backup) so I don't think is a problem of HW Tape Bios or Compression because i have tried to resotre directly the files without taking them from a tape.
1) I have created a new database , without data, with the same devices, in megabyte, that I have on the production server. than from enterprise manager I have started the restore from file, and after two seconds everything stops, and I can't even shutdown the task but i MUST turn the server off using the power button.
when I start the server again there are no specific errors in the event log nor in the SQLServer error log. The db i was trying to restore is marked "loading" and it is not available.
This same procedure works perfectly on the production server.
2) I have then created another db on the test server, and I have succesfully tranferred ( but not resotred) the produciont db onto the test one, using the transfer menu on SQLEnterprise manager.
3) another strange thing is that I have tryed to expand the tempdb, which is only 2 mega by default, but whenever i try to expand it, using enterprise manager, only the LOG area of tempdb sucessfully expands, not the data area. I don't know if this behaviour is related to the unsuccesfull restore or if it is another problem.
i have checked the sort order and character set of the 2 servers and they are the same.
Hi guys! When it comes to writing sql statements, I do ok. But I just know the basics on sql server dba stuff.I need to create a sql server login account that has the ability to backup and restore databases, BUT NOTHING ELSE.No ability to change anything other than via the restore process. I figured out how to do the backup portion of my requirement, but not the restore part.Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Every hour I make a backup of the log files of a database to a backup device. Each backup is appended to this backup device.
Now to restore at a point in time I normally use the following script;

Is there a simpler way of restoring without going through this long process.
Im planning to setup sqlserver 2005 log shipping between two servers.The size of the database is around 50GB and we are taking transaction log backup and shipping at 30mins interval.
Suppose if the backup job couldnt take the transaction log backup with in the specified interval ie 30mins,then how does the copy and restore job works. Will it give an error saying tht the transaction log could nt be copied and restored ??? How to deal with this kind of situations where the backup is taking more time than the threshold time limit and ur copy,restore fails. Is there a way to handle this kind of situation in logshipping Sqlserver 2005. and how does it affect the Secondary database. ??
Hopefully someone out there will be able to help me with this question. I'm trying to setup my C# program to use the Backup and Restore classes to perform backups and restores on an SQL Express 2005 database.
From the documentation I've read... it seems that when you go to restore the database, it's a good idea to backup the current transaction log. But when I do this using the Backup.SqlBackup method I get an error saying that no database backup is detected so a log backup can't occur. I'm not sure if this has something to do with the fact that I moved my backup files from the default SQL Express/Server Backup folder to a different location. Shouldn't it know I've already performed a backup though?
And does anyone know how to set a parameter to backup to a different file location than the default? I've been doing a backup then a file move. Works the same, but it would be nice to have everything together in the Backup object.
I recently updated the datatype of a sproc parameter from bit to tinyint. When I executed the sproc with the updated parameters the sproc appeared to succeed and returned "1 row(s) affected" in the console. However, the update triggered by the sproc did not actually work.
The table column was a bit which only allows 0 or 1 and the sproc was passing a value of 2 so the table was rejecting this value. However, the sproc did not return an error and appeared to return success. So is there a way to configure the database or sproc to return an error message when this type of error occurs?
I have a parent package that calls child packages inside a For Each container. When I debug/run the parent package (from VS), I get the following error message: Warning: The Execution method succeeded, but the number of errors raised (3) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors.
It appears to be failing while executing the child package. However, the logs (via the "progress" tab) for both the parent package and the child package show no errors other than the one listed above (and that shows in the parent package log). The child package appears to validate completely without error (all components are green and no error messages in the log). I turned on SSIS logging to a text file and see nothing in there either.
If I bump up the MaximumErrorCount in the parent package and in the Execute Package Task that calls the child package to 4 (to go one above the error count indicated in the message above), the whole thing executes sucessfully. I don't want to leave the Max Error Count set like this. Is there something I am missing? For example are there errors that do not get logged by default? I get some warnings, do a certain number of warnings equal an error?

We have a static class that makes an HTTPWebRequest to get XML data from one of our vendors. We use this as input to a stored proc in SQLServer2005. When I compile this class and call it from a console application in visual studio it executes in milliseconds, everytime. When I compile it, create the assembly and clr function and execute it in SQLServer, it takes around 14 seconds to execute the first time, then on subsequent requests it is again really fast, until I wait for 10 seconds and re-execute, once again it is slow the first time and then fast on subsequent requests. We do not see this behavior when executing outside SQLServer. Makes me think that some sort of authentication is perhaps taking place the first time the function is run in SQLServer? I have no idea how to debug this further. Anyone seen this before or have any ideas?

When I execute the function as above, again, really slow the first time, then fast on subsequent calls. Could there be something wrong with the code, or some headers that need to be set differently to operate from the CLR in SQLServer?
I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.

I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.
Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.
If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:
server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"
DB name: name of db instance
port: 1433(default)
user and pass.

I have an SQLServer Mobile database, and I would like to know if there is a way to upgrade it to SQLServer 2005 (.mdf) database. My database has no records in it, just the structure (tables etc). What I am actually asking is if I can create automatically a new SQLServer 2005 Database with the same structure as my existin SQLSErver Mobile database
I'm getting this message on my third automated backup of the transaction logs of the day. Both databases are in full recovery mode, both successfully backed up at 01.00. The transaction logs backed up perfectly happily at 01:30 and 05:30, but failed at 09:30.
The only difference between 05:30 and 09:30's backups is that the log files were shrunk at 08:15 (the databases in question are the ones that sit under ILM2007, and keeping the log files small keeps the system running better).
Is it possible that shrinking the log files causes the database to think that there hasn't been a full database backup?
I am in the process of planning a server upgrade to sql2005 x64.
I created 2 linked servers: one to a SQL2000 sp4 server and one to a SQL7.0 SP3.
I have the following error when I query the linked servers. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "Unspecified error". OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "The stored procedure required to complete this operation could not be found on the server. Please contact your system administrator.". Msg 7311, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES_INFO" for OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.

I applied the instcat.sql on the SQL2000SP4 server and my linked server issues for that one are gone.
However, I ran the instcat.sql script on the SQL7.0 sp3 server and the linked server is still giving me an issue.
Hi, I am new to SQL Server 2005. I tried connecting to my local machine by using my machine name as Server name and then tried running the following query: SELECT * FROM SYS.Objects. It gives me following error: Invalid object name 'sys.objects'.
Whereas, if I connect to my local machine using mahcinenameSQLEXPRESS, then the above mentioned query runs fine.
Why is this difference? What is the difference when I login in these 2 different ways. Any help would be appreciated.
Is there a way to transfer data from a SqlServer db to a SqlServer Express db. I tried to use the backup file of SqlServer, but this file is not valid for SqlServer Express. Or there any alternatives?
On the SQL Server the Event Viewer shows the same messages and errors every evening between 22:05:00 and 22:08:00. The following information messages are shown for every database:

After the 3 messages the following error message is shown for every database:

I have added a Maintenance Plan but these jobs run after 02:00:00 at night.
Where can I find the command or setup which will backup all databases and log files at 22:00:00 in the evening?
SQL Server 2008 r2 - 6 GB memory...I attempted a backup on a 500GB database but it was taking way too long. I checked the resources on the box and saw the CPU at 100%. I checked the SQL Server activity log and saw a hung query (user was not even logged on) that had multiple threads so I killed it and now the CPU utilization is back to normal.
Trouble is, now all of the threads in the activity monitor for the backup show 'suspended' and the backup appears to be not doing anything.
I use the Transact-SQL BACKUP statement in Visual Basic to backup my local MSSQL Database. It give me this error

I already created a backup device called BCFPCBKP and it is backup to the disk.
I tried to run the same BACKUP statement in SQL Query Analyzer and it worked fine. I tried to run my VB application in another PC. It worked fine when i use this command remotely. Can anyone tell me what's the problem?
Using Ola Hallengren's scripts I do a full backup of a database on a Sunday. Then differential backups every 6 hours and log backups every hour. I would like to keep a full week of backups based off the full backup done on Sunday. Is there a way for me to clear out the diff and log folders after the successful full backup on Sunday nights?
