In SQL Server 7.0 I right click on the database, select Tasks, Select backup, then indicate backup of database (complete) to tape. Overwrite (I put tape into NT Server), OK, then it says backup in progress and then I get the message shown in the subject...
Any advice please? I have backed up NT files on this tape before and have tried a second tape...
I asked this question before but never received a decent answer. When a restore fails, what are the steps to re-start the restore? This should be a very common issue and for the life of me I have been unable to find it in BOL or the MS site! Please let me in on the secret!!
I have this error isolated in my production environment running SAP/ SQL Server. The options for restoring from database backup out of question. I tried delete records and dropping the table from SQL Entreprise Manager. when I do DBCC updateusage, it always encounters this isolated table and stops the DBCC checks. The update statistics and table consistency DBCC checks are running ok.
Table Corrupt: object id does not match between extent in allocation page and Sysindexes; check the following extent: al loc pg#=4187136 extent#=4187136 object id on extent=12 (object name = sysdepends) object id in Sysindexes=772353966 (ob ject name = SAPWLSFIDX_OLD) DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, see your System Administrator.
Kind of a newby sql question, but here goes:I have a sql 2005 database that I have a job that runs Sunday morning at 12:30 am. I set it up using SQL Svr Mgt Studio 2005. Under the Management directory I set up Database Mail to work with my local SMTP server. I can send a test email just fine.I then set myself up as an operator with my email address. (Under operators directory) I then went back to the properties of the job I set up, and under 'notification', chose e-mail operator (me) when Job Succeeds. The job runs, itt suceeds, but NO email!It flat out won't work. there are NO entries in teh( email) log for errors either. Anyone? TIA Dan OR is it better to script these jobs using xml? I don't have time to learn a new thing right now, just need it to work!
As part of a DTS job, I run an ActiveX script that loops through each file in a directory and imports the data into a single table. I'd like to display each filename as it is being imported, but I don't want to use the msgbox command for obvious reasons. Is there a status message box I can fill to display whatever text I want? If so, what command would I use?
We do not use message retention in our application.
However today i dicovered messages still sitting in a queue, on further investigation i found that the messages had been processed, the problem was that i had mistakenly altered a queue with rentention ON earlier.
So the messages on the queue were simply retatined messages.
But i have 2 questions:
1.Is there a way to "delete" these retained messages without ending the conversation, we use permanant conversations so ending the conversation is a last resort.
2.Why is the message status of the retaitned messages 0 ?
BOL : From the topic "Message Retention"
"For queues that specify retention, the RECEIVE command sets the status of received messages to 1 rather than deleting the message."
However my retained messages have a status of 0 ? Also i have confirmed that new not yet received messages have a status of 1.
BOL : From topic "RECEIVE (Transact-SQL) "
" Message Status
0=Ready1=Received message2=Not yet complete3=Retained sent message
"
But from my testing retained = 0 and Ready = 1, is this a mistake in BOL or am i missing something ?
I am using sql server 2000 and windows server 2003 standard edition: My database backup job is failing due to lack of disk space. I am taking the backup onto E drive and the available free space on E drive is 6.85 GB and there are no other drives I can use for the database backups. The size of mdf file is 21 GB and that of ldf file is 4.2 GB. The transaction log back up job of that db ran fine. This database recovery model is Full and Auto shrink is not checked. There is one primary filegroup for the database. In this situation, I am thinking of the following option: 1. Backup the db and log files onto another network shared drive. If I want to still use the same server E drive to backup the db and log files instead of using another network shared drives. how can I do that. Please let me know the best way of handling this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
We recently migrated our production environment from a win2k3/SQL 2000 EE cluster to a new 64 bit win2k3/ SQL 2005 SP1 Cluster.
Cluster works fine for a while (3-6 hours), then our logins start failing. We recieve the following error in the event log:
"The server was unable to load the SSL provider library needed to log in; the connection has been closed. SSL is used to encrypt either the login sequence or all communications, depending on how the administrator has configured the server. See Books Online for information on this error message"
The only way to resume connectivity is to offline and online the sql service in the cluster.
The only reference to this error that I can find has something to do with a hotfix that might be available?
I have a table which i use to queue messages in. in this table there is a status column along with all the other message colums (ID, body, phone, time, etc). I use tinyint to express the diffrent status values (my frist question is, should i continue using tinyint, or is there some sort of enum, or another suggestion?). the value 1 means its a new message. An external process polls this table and pics up messages that are new.
Some messages fail, and so their status is changed to two. An external post process comes along and does what it needs to with messages that have status' which it handles, for example message failures, it might erase it, or change its status back to 1.
I expect to handle thousands of messages per hour. Should I create another table, which has only id and status as columns. And when a message fails I will place it in here instead of placing it in my original table. then the post process only polls this table and joins with my main table. instead of having both processes poll the single table. Would this be more efficient for sql internal seraching? since it has a smaller table to search in? or does it not make a diffrence.
I have a Data Flow task which uses an XML File Source with six parellell Outputs, each going firstly to a Data Conversion Task, then the results of each end in a SQL Server Destination Object. (All using the SQL Native Client)
To eplain this further, the Xml file contains 6 different types of elements, the Dataflow splits out each type of element and processes them into different tables. The Data Transformation object exists only because the XML fields are Uni-code and the table fields are VarChar not nVarChar.
Initially using this setup I found that the Connection would timeout using the SQL Native Client so I changed the Timout on the Destination Objects to 0. This fixed the problem to some degree, however at present I can run the Pakage using the Visual Studio enviroment and everything works fine, no problem. When I run the Dtsx file using the SQL Server Agent, I end up getting the error below...

I understand that this error is somewhat of a 'catch all' and that the way the Native SQL Server Connection object works makes Error Capturing difficult. I have tried a few things which I will list as I'm sure they will be suggested...
I have played around with the 'MaxInsertCommitSize' property of the SQL Server Destination Objects to no avail (IE, changing to 50000, 10000, 1000 all of which resulted in the same problem)
I am running the ssis pakage from the server which is the destination
As mentioned above the Timeout on the SQL Server Destination Objects is set to 0
What I have already mentioned and still don'tt quite understand is that I can run the job successfully from the Visual Studio enviroment but as a job run off the SQL Server it fails...
Hi friends, please help me with my urgent needs. I have created a job. This job contains 6 steps. All steps are sql querries. In step no:3 i have an if condition in the script. When the condition becomes true i have to run the script. That is ok. But the problem is when the condition becomes falls i have to go to the step no 6 and at the same time the status of step no:3 should be like "failed". can you help me please Please this is an urgent reqirement.
I am extracting data from SQL Server 2005 to flat file destination. I am using SQL Command to specify the data selection query. One of my query uses Replicate function to derive a column value. When I execute this package it fails with the error "Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "value" returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page".
The reason for the problem is that, it is taking the InputColumnWidth of the flat file destination as 8000 and I specified the OutputColumnWidth as 4.
If I change the OutputColumnWidth to 8000, it is working without any error but resulting in the column width of 8000.
I tried using DerivedColumn Transformation's Type cast and DataConversion Transformation but still I am getting the same error in the respective Transformation components.

I have an SSIS package that does one simple thing: perform a FULL backup of a database.
I executed this package yesterday at 2:00. The package backs up to four individual files on a network share. The network share is accessible from the SQL Server. THe database in question is 245GB in size.
The package was running fine when I left for the day. When I got in today, there was an error in the SQL Server log:
Error: 3041, Severity: 16, State: 1.
BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE ServicingODS. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.
Where is this infamous backup application log?!? The Event Viewer says the same thing. Needless to say, the error message is a bit vague.
There were no "issus" overnight (power outages, network issues, etc.)
Other postings I know have asked about this error message, but none has quite been my particular experience.
Using Visual Studio 2005 I have developed an aspx (.NET 2.0) web page, which has embedded in it, a Report Viewer object. Clicking a button calls the Reporting Services report and populates the Report Viewer object. This web-page works fine when run from Visual Studio.
Once deployed to the Web Server however, the web page produces the 401 error message.
I can also run the report fine, when running it directly from the Reporting Services Report Manager, so I know I have the proper permissions on RS itself - it fails only when I try calling the report from the ASP page.
I am getting the mentioned error: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized, when i tried to call ReportingService2005 reference in my IIS web project.
Below is my code:
string strReport;
string strRptUrl;
string strFormat;
string strFormatCode;
ReportingService2005 rs = new ReportingService2005();
// Pass Windows Authentication credentials to Web Service
I have deployed the reports to the report server(centralized server). when i try to access the reports directly thru report server i.e http://servername//ReportServer in my local system. it asks for the username/password, when i give the username and password it accepts and shows me the report.
the same report i try to access in .NET Application, i do not know how to pass the credentials and it throws the error :"The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized ".
I am using VS 2005 and SQL Server 2005 and SQL Reporting Services 2005.
I am using report viewer in my asp.net application When i try to access the reportserver page in my application i get this error The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized
My webserver and the Sql server are in different computers.. The Report Server is been installed in the Webserver but in the database set up its talking to the sql server computer.. I have tried giving credentials in the webconfig file but i get the above error..
Help! I am getting a Job failure for a DB Backup Job when I open up the EM -> Management -> SQL Server Agt -> Jobs When I check the SQL Logs, there is no Error message, nor is there an error message in the DB Maintenance Plan History. I checked the Server to make sure the DB was being backed up, and the current file is there. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks! (make me look good to the rest of my group!)
I have a DB Maintenance plan created that performs optimizations, integrity checks, and a database backup. The optimizations and integrity checks work fine, but the backup job fails. The backup job is to write the .bak file to a network share. When I change the owner of the job to "sqluser", the job fails at step 0 withe the following error: The job failed. Unable to determine if the owner (rsnsqluser) of job DB Backup Job for DB Maintenance Plan 'Online Database Server Maintenance Plan' has server access (reason: Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'rsnsqluser'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 8198)). Checked with the system admin for this server and sqluser has priviledges to do everything, including write to the network share.
So, now I change the owner of the same maintenance job from sqluser to "sa". I now get this error: Executed as user: RSNsqluser. sqlmaint.exe failed. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 22029). The step failed.
Checked the settings for MSSQLSERVER and SQLSERVERAGENT in Control Panel. Everything seems to be in order according to the other threads I have read.
For grins, I tried to ensure the sqluser password on the SQL Server Agent was correct. When I try to enter the new password I get this: sql server agent startup account could not be verified I click yes (it asks if I want to continue anyway). Is the password not being registered properly in the agent?
One other thing, the sqluser user is listed under Security|Logins as connecting with Windows Authentication. We have several other servers that are set up the same and work fine. What am I missing? I'm pulling my hair out! :eek:

I have programmatically deploy SQL server Reporting Services 2005 reports via msi file. The installation was success, I was able to run the reports on localhostReports at the target machine. But I get error "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." when I try to access it from the ASP.NET app report menu in the target machine.
It is Windows Server 2003 standard edition, it uses Windows Authentication. I have tried setting any combination below and still doesn't work. Anybody has any other ideas?
ReportingService2005 rs = new ReportingService2005();
rs.UseDefaultCredentials = true; rs.PreAuthenticate = true; rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; or rs.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("Admin", "psw");

We are using sql server 2012. We have configured backup in our setup. We wanted to enable loggigng in such a way that when ever backup job runs it should log the status in error log. How to enable this. As of now it is creating seperate log file in log location after every execution. We wanted them to be logged in Error Log file it self.
Environment: SQL 2005 Workgroup Ed. (part of SBS 2003 R2 Premium)
I have a database attached to SQL 2005 that is on my D: drive. I'm trying to run a full backup of this database to a backup device also on D:. The first time I ran the backup it worked fine, then I installed SQL 2005 SP1 and now it's failing. The error message is:
quote: Backup failed for Server 'MYSERVER'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Write on "My Backup Device(D:BackupMyBackupDevice.bak)" failed: 112(There is not enough space on the disk.)(Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
In the event viewer, the following events are logged in the Application log:
quote: Source: MSSQLSERVER Category: (6) Event ID: 3041 Description: BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE MyDatabase. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.
quote: Source: MSSQLSERVER Category: (2) Event ID: 18210 Description: BackupMedium::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device 'D:BackupMyBackupDevice.bak'. Operating system error 112 (There is not enough space on the disk.).
If I do the backup to the MSSQL default backup directory (on C: ), the backup completes successfully. If I try to back up the master database (on C: ) to the backup directory I created on D:, the backup completes successfully. If I try to back up the master database to the MSSQL default backup directory (on C: ), the backup completes successfully.
The SqlServer and SqlAgent processes are both running under a domain user account, and that account has full control of my backup directory on D:. I should also mention that my D: drive has over 100GB free, and the database is only 330MB. It is a simple database model.
I've searched all day today trying to find the solution to this issue, and I can't find anything relevant. Could someone please help me!!! I'm about at my wit's end!
In one off my production box, we are notable to take a backups of MSDB . When i look at the error, it is failing locate allocation unit ID.. complete error as below

Due this failure, we are unable to take the backup of MSDB database and our integrity check and reindex jobs also failured with the same.Also, I could see events of I/O issues with underlaying hard dirve with following name

Hello, I am trying to schedule a report using the ReportingService2005 web service. It works in my local machine, but as soon as I deploy my web app to a server I get this exception:
System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized. at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.ReadResponse(SoapClientMessage message, WebResponse response, Stream responseStream, Boolean asyncCall) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters) at ReportService.ReportingService2005.GetSubscriptionProperties(String SubscriptionID, ExtensionSettings& ExtensionSettings, String& Description, ActiveState& Active, String& Status, String& EventType, String& MatchData, ParameterValue[]& Parameters) at ReportScheduling.SaveSubscription(String SubscriptionID, String ReportName, Int32 ReportID) at ReportScheduling.ScheduleReport()
I see that a lot of people are having the same problem but no solutions are given, Answers like "use the default credentials" . Or "pass a user name and a password" are not doing anything. This has got to be a machine setting. Can anyone share the specific fix? Sad that this is not in Microsoft's standard documentation or MSDN. Very frustating.
I have a report server set up to use SSL and Basic authentication. I am trying to create an application that uses the ReportService2005 web service. I can add the web reference ok, but when I try to use it to list reports, I get the "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." error.
What steps do I need to take to get the authentication to work correctly? I have kerberos configured for the server, although I don't think that would matter here.
