Backup Failed In Loading Status. How To Restart Or Recover?

Jun 18, 2007

I asked this question before but never received a decent answer. When a restore fails, what are the steps to re-start the restore? This should be a very common issue and for the life of me I have been unable to find it in BOL or the MS site! Please let me in on the secret!!

Thanks

In SQL Server 7.0 I right click on the database, select Tasks, Select backup, then indicate backup of database (complete) to tape. Overwrite (I put tape into NT Server), OK, then it says backup in progress and then I get the message shown in the subject...

Any advice please? I have backed up NT files on this tape before and have tried a second tape...

Thanks much,

How To Recover SQL Server Database From Suspect Status

May 24, 2007

One of the database in our SQL Server 2000 environment is in the suspect status. We need to bring it back to the normal status.

The problem occurred because the disk on which the data file and log file for this database were placed ran out of space.

Pls note other databases in the same server are working fine.
Later on more space was made available on this disk. We tried the following options but with no success.

1. Reset the status of database and restarted the SQL Server. After restarting the SQL Server, the database once again was showing the suspect status.
2. Used the same data and log file in another SQL Server and attached with the database in this another SQL Server.
3. Tried dbcc chkdb with repair_allow_data_loss.

Since the database is in suspect status, we are neither able to export the data nor able to back up the database.

Please suggest some options to recover the database from the suspect status. Also it would be great if we can get the commands, scripts to find if the data/log file is corrupt and a way to correct it (even with data loss is fine).

Db In Loading Status After Restore

Apr 10, 2002

I performed a database restore this morning from a backup that I had
created yesterday - the database was backed up to a file, not a backup
device.

After the restore completed, the database was left in a LOADING status. I
checked the log and it stated 'Bypassing recovery for database X because
it is marked in load. I used the enterprise tools (all tasks/restore
database) to do the restore.

I asked one of our senior dba's for help, and he followed the same process
I did and it worked fine for him.

Any idea why my database was left in a loading status? The database was
fine prior to the restore.

Transactional Replication Failed And Cannot Restart

May 11, 2004

Transactional replication running via a pull subscription between a single subscriber and single publisher on Windows 2000 servers (all current service packs and patches) with SQL Server 2000.

Early on Sunday morning, the server hosting the publisher was rebooted...but SQL Server Agent failed to start fully, causing the log reader agent to not start and no alerts to trigger. Still trying to isolate the cause of the problem with SQL Server Agent, as it's been problematic to keep it up and running. For the most part, though, it's coming up properly after restarts of the service or reboots, and starting all agents/functions.

However, the snapshot agent ran a number of times pulling schema and batch copies for the articles in the replicated dataset, and the distribution agent now fails each time it runs with a reference to "not having the initial snapshot for the publication available". SQL Server Agent went down before this could complete, and I left it down until I could ascertain the best route to take...

Any chance I can circumvent having to reapply a initial snapshot of the publication db (this is a large set of data), and just apply transactions from the log since my downtime has only been about 60 hours? Or is there an agent setting, job run to reinitialize, or an inherent quality to SQL Server Agent that will demand a complete reapplication of the snapshots due to the down time?

I'm betting that the distribution agent will start moving data as soon as the snapshot agent finishes up (as I said, it has not completed yet), but I'm praying there's a way to get around this...

Thanks!

Failed Restore And Server Restart

Jun 6, 2008

We were trying to restore our production server db backup in test server over LAN (due to space shortage on test server) . Test server hanged and did not respond for abt more than 15 hours (backup file 40 GB ) . The we restarted the server (resetting the power button) . Now it's showing the status 'Restoring' . According to me it's not doing anything (as seen in task manager workload ) . So how can I go ahead with checking the db .

Due to 'restoring' status I get following error

Msg 927, Level 14, State 2, Line 1

SQL Express Failed Login && Service Restart

Jan 9, 2007

Every so often I get an error when I pull up an ASP.NET 2.0 site using
SQL Express. It tells me that the login failed. If I go
into the server's administrative tools > services and restart SQL
Express and then refresh the site, it works just fine. Is this
some sort of bug or memory issue? Does the application need to
connect every so often or end up falling out somewhere?

Thanks

DB-Corruption: Backup, Restore And Recover

Oct 2, 2001

Hi

I have a question concerning backup / restore / recover of a MS-SQL-Server-Database.

Following configuration exists:

MS-SQL-Server running on NT

OS, Server located on a mirrored Raid 0 Disk -> C:

Transactionlog-Files (.ldf) on the same physical mirrored Disk -> E:

Database-Files (.mdf) located on a separate pyhisical Disk (Disk-Set, Raid 5) -> D:

I take a full backup every night of all databases, no Transaction-Log backup is made during a day (never)

Assuming following situation:

During a day one Database became corrupt. The physical-file (.ldf) of corrupted database is still accessible
on Drive E:

1. Step: I make a copy of the .ldf-File and put it on a secure place or in an other directory

2. Step: I restore the DB from the last full backup

3. Step: ???? How is it now possible to recover from the physical available .ldf-File? I know it should be
possible but I don't now how.

Has anybody tips or suggestion or has someone ever had a similar situation? Feedback would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Gabi

How Do I Recover Database From A Detached Backup Device?

Nov 29, 2007

I ran into a problem today where I had to pull a backup file from an older tape. The file was originally is a backup that was stored in a device like :

EXEC sp_addumpdevice
'disk', --type
'c2000_BackupDevice', --logical name
'\UNCPathackupFile.bak' --physical location

I put the file from the tape on a File Server and then tried to create a new backup device pointing to the file. That's easy enough, but when I try to restore from it I get an device error saying it's offline.

How can I get that device attached to my server and then extract the backup files stored inside it?

Please advise b/c this is an interesting problem I hadn't anticipated and it argues that I should change my backup strategy .

Thanks for any advice/experience you can provide,

Data Conversion Failed. The Data Conversion For Column Value Returned Status Value 4 And Status Text Text Was Truncated Or On

Jan 7, 2008

Hi Experts,

I am extracting data from SQL Server 2005 to flat file destination. I am using SQL Command to specify the data selection query. One of my query uses Replicate function to derive a column value. When I execute this package it fails with the error "Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "value" returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page".

The reason for the problem is that, it is taking the InputColumnWidth of the flat file destination as 8000 and I specified the OutputColumnWidth as 4.

If I change the OutputColumnWidth to 8000, it is working without any error but resulting in the column width of 8000.

I tried using DerivedColumn Transformation's Type cast and DataConversion Transformation but still I am getting the same error in the respective Transformation components.

Can anyone suggest how to solve this issue.

The Request Failed With HTTP Status 401: Unauthorized.

Sep 14, 2006

Other postings I know have asked about this error message, but none has quite been my particular experience.

Using Visual Studio 2005 I have developed an aspx (.NET 2.0) web page, which has embedded in it, a Report Viewer object. Clicking a button calls the Reporting Services report and populates the Report Viewer object. This web-page works fine when run from Visual Studio.

Once deployed to the Web Server however, the web page produces the 401 error message.

I can also run the report fine, when running it directly from the Reporting Services Report Manager, so I know I have the proper permissions on RS itself - it fails only when I try calling the report from the ASP page.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike.

Why Loading Mining Model Failed?

Hi, all experts here,

Thanks for your kind attention.

I am wondering why the loading of mining model for MTS failed in my case, the model has successfully processed and deployed? But when I clicked on the model viewer, the error message saying: failed to load model. Why is that? Is it because too many records for the table? Or why is that? (in my case, I got a case table and a nested table with over 1000,000 records)) Thank you very much and I am looking forward to hearing from you.

With best regards,

I have programmatically deploy SQL server Reporting Services 2005 reports via msi file. The installation was success, I was able to run the reports on localhostReports at the target machine. But I get error "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." when I try to access it from the ASP.NET app report menu in the target machine.

It is Windows Server 2003 standard edition, it uses Windows Authentication. I have tried setting any combination below and still doesn't work. Anybody has any other ideas?

ReportingService2005 rs = new ReportingService2005();

rs.UseDefaultCredentials = true;
rs.PreAuthenticate = true;
rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; or
rs.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("Admin", "psw");

SQL Security :: Backup Status Logging

Jun 9, 2015

We are using sql server 2012. We have configured backup in our setup. We wanted to enable loggigng in such a way that when ever backup job runs it should log the status in error log. How to enable this. As of now it is creating seperate log file in log location after every execution. We wanted them to be logged in Error Log file it self.

The Request Failed With HTTP Status 401: Unauthorized. - ReportingService2005 Webservice

Dec 11, 2007

Hello, I am trying to schedule a report using the ReportingService2005 web service. It works in my local machine, but as soon as I deploy my web app to a server I get this exception:

System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.
at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.ReadResponse(SoapClientMessage message, WebResponse response, Stream responseStream, Boolean asyncCall)
at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters)
at ReportService.ReportingService2005.GetSubscriptionProperties(String SubscriptionID, ExtensionSettings& ExtensionSettings, String& Description, ActiveState& Active, String& Status, String& EventType, String& MatchData, ParameterValue[]& Parameters)
at ReportScheduling.SaveSubscription(String SubscriptionID, String ReportName, Int32 ReportID)
at ReportScheduling.ScheduleReport()

I see that a lot of people are having the same problem but no solutions are given, Answers like "use the default credentials" . Or "pass a user name and a password" are not doing anything. This has got to be a machine setting. Can anyone share the specific fix? Sad that this is not in Microsoft's standard documentation or MSDN. Very frustating.

The Request Failed With HTTP Status 401: Unauthorized. - ReportService2005.asmx

Mar 9, 2006

I have a report server set up to use SSL and Basic authentication. I am trying to create an application that uses the ReportService2005 web service. I can add the web reference ok, but when I try to use it to list reports, I get the "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." error.

What steps do I need to take to get the authentication to work correctly? I have kerberos configured for the server, although I don't think that would matter here.

The Request Failed With HTTP Status 401: Unauthorized. - SQL Reporting Services

Jan 30, 2006

Hi,

I have deployed the reports to the report server(centralized server). when i try to access the reports directly thru report server i.e http://servername//ReportServer in my local system. it asks for the username/password, when i give the username and password it accepts and shows me the report.

the same report i try to access in .NET Application, i do not know how to pass the credentials and it throws the error :"The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized ".

I am using VS 2005 and SQL Server 2005 and SQL Reporting Services 2005.

with regards
