CDC Tracking Tables Are Not In The Backup?

Sep 23, 2015

I have enabled CDC on my productive database with

USE MyDB
GO
EXEC sys.sp_cdc_enable_db
GOand I have enables cdc on tables within the database using
USE MyDB
GO
EXEC sys.sp_cdc_enable_table
@source_schema = N'dbo',
@source_name = N'MyTable',
@role_name = N'MyRole',
@filegroup_name = N'MyDB_CT',
@supports_net_changes = 1
GO

As per [URL] ....

Data changes are then stored in a system table called cdc.dbo_MyTable_CT So far so good.I backup the database and restore it

backup database MyDB
to Disk = 'CBackupMyDB.bak'restore database MyDB1
from disk = 'CBackupMyDB.bak' No table called cdc.dbo_MyTable_CT in system tables!

Have I missed a step? and is there a way to get these tables into the backup.I am now building a ssis job to move the contents of the cdc.dbo_MyTable_CT to an archive table, but i am worried that if I had to restore the database to a point in time I may not be able to do it for these tables.

Why Are Other Servers In Backup Tables?

Sep 14, 2007

I ran the following code on one of our servers and I got some surprising results. Those results included backups for that machine but also showed entries for other servers. I don't understand it! I can understand the results being wrong because I coded something incorrectly, but why would another server be listed in bs.server_Name? It appears that the entries are "correct" in that backups were taken on the other server at the time given, but why is it there??? (I put the code together to list the most recent backup for each database on the instance. I hope it is correct.)

select @@ServerName, bs.server_Name, bs.Database_Name,
bmf.physical_Device_Name,
bs.backup_start_date, bs.backup_finish_date,
Case When bs.backup_start_date < Getdate() - 1 Then 'Stale' Else 'Recent' End as Status,
Case When bs.backup_finish_date is NULL Then 'Failed' Else 'Successful' End as Success
from msdb.dbo.backupset bs
Join msdb.dbo.backupmediafamily bmf on bmf.media_set_id = bs.media_set_id
where type = 'd'
and bs.backup_set_id = (select max (bso.backup_set_id)
from msdb.dbo.backupset bso
where bso.server_name = bs.server_Name
and bso.Database_Name = bs.Database_Name
and bso.Type = 'D')
order by database_name

Restore Tables From Master Backup

Nov 28, 2012

Version: 10.00.1600 (I believe the first 2008 release)

I made a backup from the master, model and msdb system tables. Now I travelled to a different country, and I only have the backups and would like to access them. I was able to restore the master db to a new installation of mssql but, it wont start. I do know why: as I read after I quickly realised that master backups take the accounts, serverID, groups, directory structure, and lots of other things.Basically I have no chance of doing a master restore. The question here: Is there any way of getting my data out from the master backup file (thats where my stuff is)? I'm thinking of "restoring" it to a separate non-master db, table, anything. I know now that I did the most stupidest thing ever, but believe me I don't want the last half years work to just disappear.

Reducing Large Tables, Re-index And Backup Them

Jan 2, 2003

What is the best procedure/sequence to reduce some tables containing large number of rows of
a SQL 2000 server?
The idea is first to check which tables grow extremely fast (all statistics, user or log tables), reduce the table
according to the number of months the user wishes to keep in the table.
As a second step backup remaining rows of table as txt files on harddisk (using DTS), UPDATE STATISTICS and re-indexing reduced table.
Run DTS Package every month once (delete oldest month and backup newest month) and do the same as above to keep size of tables adequate.
What is a fast way to reduce number of rows of a large table - the following example produces an error (timeout expired) of my
ADO connection when executing:
SET @str = 'DELETE FROM ' + @ProcessTable + ' WHERE ' + @SelectedColumn + ' < DATEADD (m,' +' -' +
@KeepMonthsInDatabase + ',
+ GETDATE())'
EXEC (@str)
Adding ConnectionTimout = 0 did not help unfortunately.

What is the best way to re-index the table just maintained?

Thanks

Recovery :: How To Backup Raw Data Only With Just Views And Tables

Sep 23, 2015

My client has on a physical server (A), the following:

1. MS SQL Server 2008R2
2. MS SQL Server (Reporting Server)

The data base is backed up fully daily to another physical server (B).

What the client would like to do is:

1. Backup just the Raw SQL Data with Tables and Views to Server B every 10 mins

Point to be noted is, there isn't any dedicated storage (NAS or SAN) just local disk storage on the server.

The reason for this is they want to run reports against this data every 10-15 mins...

How and what do I need to do to facilitate this?

Can I EXPORT Tables To A Backup DB And Delete Them From My Production Server?

Jul 23, 2005

I have a database file approximately 30GB in size which creates 3 datatables daily. I need to reduce the size of the DB due to disk sizelimitations. Could I EXPORT some tables, let us say over thirty daysold, to something like DB_Name_Archieve and them delete them from theproduction DB to reduce the size? I also need the ability toreference/read them at a later time as needed.As a side note, could SQL Server use data on a redirected drive i.e.NET Used. This would allow me to move the old tables to the redirecteddrive and reference them as needed.As always, thanks in advance.Peter

Can You Backup And Restore Tables That Belong To A Specific Schema

Apr 30, 2008

Hi all,

does anyone know of a way in which you can backup and restore objects that belong to a specific schema?

So in this example, I€™d want to only back up and be able to restore the tables that belong to schema 1, leaving Schema2 stuff alone.

--DB
----Schema1.Table1
----Schema1.Table2
----Schema2.Table1
----Schema2.Table2

Thanks in advance,

Andy.

EDIT: I forgot to add that I want to backup the tables and the data contained within.

BACKUP LOG Cannot Be Performed Because There Is No Current Database Backup. BACKUP LOG Is Terminating Abnormally.

Jan 31, 2008

Hi there

I'm getting this message on my third automated backup of the transaction logs of the day. Both databases are in full recovery mode, both successfully backed up at 01.00. The transaction logs backed up perfectly happily at 01:30 and 05:30, but failed at 09:30.

The only difference between 05:30 and 09:30's backups is that the log files were shrunk at 08:15 (the databases in question are the ones that sit under ILM2007, and keeping the log files small keeps the system running better).

Is it possible that shrinking the log files causes the database to think that there hasn't been a full database backup?

Thanks

Jane

How To Backup CE Database Tables And Restore To Newer Database?

Jul 3, 2007

I am fairly new to VS 2005 and SQL Server CE. I have developed a Desktop Windows application using VB 2005 and the SQL Compact Edition Database. This application will sell to users via web download.

When they download a service patch, or updated version, I wish for them to retain the data in their present database. In other words, fill the new database with the old data. The new table structures will remain intact except for added columns at the end.

Question is how to save the old data and update the new database with it. Is there an easy way to do this, or do I need to write a module to save a database copy, and update the new database with content at install time?

"I/O is frozen on database <database name>. No user action is required. However, if I/O is not resumed promptly, you could cancel the backup."

"I/O was resumed on database <database name>. No user action is required."

"Database backed up. This is an informational message only. No user action is required."

After the 3 messages the following error message is shown for every database:

"BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP LOG <database name>. Check the backup application log for detailed messages."

I have added a Maintenance Plan but these jobs run after 02:00:00 at night.

Where can I find the command or setup which will backup all databases and log files at 22:00:00 in the evening?

Can Windows 2003 Server Backup Utility Be Used To Backup A SQL 2000 Dbase

Windows 2003 backup utility uses the shadow copy option that allows it to copy open files.
Therefore, can I use this utility to backup the .mdf and .ldf files for my SQL 2000 database?
I can then attach the .mdf files if I need to restore the database to another server.
Can anyone tell me if this is safe? I've tried it and it worked but I'm worried there maybe some lurking danger in using this approach.

Why Would Tables Pulled In From ODBC In Access Be Different Than Tables In SQL 2005 Tables?

Jan 24, 2008

I'm new to my company, although not new to SQL 2005 and I found something interesting. I don't have an ERD yet, and so I was asking a co-worker what table some data was in, they told me a table that is NOT in SQL Server 2005's list of tables, views or synonyms.

I thought that was strange, and so I searched over and over again and still I couldn't find it. Then I did a select statement the table that Access thinks exists and SQL Server does not show and to my shock, the select statement pulled in data!

So how did this happen? How can I find the object in SSMS folder listing of tables/views or whatever and what am I overlooking?

Thanks,
Keith

Recovery :: Differential Backup Much Larger Than Database / Full Backup

Nov 16, 2015

I have a database that is just over 1.5GB and the Full backup that is 13GB not sure how this is since we have compression on for full backups and my other full backups are much smaller than there respective databases...Now my full backup is taken every Sunday night and the differentials are taken every 6 hours after the full backup. Now I have been thrown into this DBA role with little to no experience just what I have picked up and read. So my understanding of backups are limited but what I think I understand is that we take a full backup and the differential only captures what changes in the database so my question is why is my database 1.5GB but my differential is 15.4GB? I have others database that are on the same instance and don't seem to have this problem. I also just noticed that we do not rebuild the index before a full backup like we do on other instances...

Is this doing the same thing. If I so desire to backup to the local drive(bear with me) what is the difference between creating a device and a file called mybackup or just choosing to backup to a file called mybackup? Should I always create a device? I know these are dumb question but....

b) 8PM with some of the changes made between the hour
c) 9PM when the backup finished?

Anybody know the exact way SQL Server handles that logic?
