The database is being used since 5 years and the transaction file (mdf) has increased upto 12Gb.
We are thinking of reducing the size of the database and keeping only the data of the past 1 year. So I would like to know if there is some way of backup or export so that I can get latest 1 year data.

I am kind of new to MS SQL server databases. I like to take a full export at database level. When I use DTS wizard, it did allow me to take one table at a given time. I have 1000's of table in my database. Manually doing so is not possible. Should i call the 'bcp' command line utility 1000 times to collect the table data to 1000 different flatfiles or is there any provision to take export of all the 1000 tables in one single command/tool.

Jul 23, 2005I have a database file approximately 30GB in size which creates 3 datatables daily. I need to reduce the size of the DB due to disk sizelimitations. Could I EXPORT some tables, let us say over thirty daysold, to something like DB_Name_Archieve and them delete them from theproduction DB to reduce the size? I also need the ability toreference/read them at a later time as needed.As a side note, could SQL Server use data on a redirected drive i.e.NET Used. This would allow me to move the old tables to the redirecteddrive and reference them as needed.As always, thanks in advance.Peter

Aug 22, 2006 We have no certified SQL DBAs. Mainly because 95% of our production data is on Oracle and DB2 databases.
One of our Oracle DBAs is trying to write scripts that can be run by the AS400 robot to export data and backup the databases. I (being the only person with any SQL expierance) have been asked to ensure that the scripts she wrote will not only work but not bring down the server.
Can anyone point me to the correct place (web, book, ect) to find out how this is to be done? In years past my SQL servers have been stand alone dedicated units. With db backups scheduled through the SQL Manager and tape backups handled by the sysadmin.

Backup failed: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Backup and file manipulation operations (such as ALTER DATABASE ADD FILE) on a database must be serialized. Reissue the satement after the current backup or file manipulation is completed (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
Program location:
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Backup.SqlBackup(Server srv)
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlManagerUI.BackupPropOptions.OnRunNow(Object sender)
Backup Options were set to:
Back up to the existing media set
Overwrite all existing backup sets
I am fairly new to SQL 2005. Can someone help me get past this issue? What other information do I need to provide?
Does A Full Backup Include Data Changes Made During The Backup?
Nov 29, 2007If my backup starts at 8PM and take 1 hour to complete, will the changes made to the database during that hour be captured in the full backup?
Stated another way, will my backup be a snapshot of:
a) 8PM when the backup started
b) 8PM with some of the changes made between the hour
c) 9PM when the backup finished?
Anybody know the exact way SQL Server handles that logic?

I am using the following query to export data from sql server to ms access in export data wizard:
SELECT * FROM myView where myID = 123
Order by varcharColumnName1,varcharColumnName2 ,intColumnName3
This query will fetch about 7, 00,000 records.
SQL server 2005 shows the correct order, but Data in access table shows Incorrect data.
Please give me the solutions.

I usually export data from my sqlserver db to a mdb file. I know there are different destinations like csv, txt, etc...
But however, how can I export data in a sql script file???? I know i should do it with the sentence "insert into table" but i would like to know if the sqlserver has some option to do this without i have to write the sentence for each rows to insert.
I know this option in Oracle.

Data Export With ADO

I want to develop a small tool to export data from a database (SQL Server and Oracle). I have to export full tables or part of tables depending on an SQL statement.
My first idea is to use ADO. I open a recordset on the table (adCmdTable) and I call the Save method to save the recordset in a file. But, when I open the recordset, it takes a long time ... I suppose that ADO performs a " select * from table " to retreive all the lines ... It's too long for me because some tables have more then 10 millions of lines !!!
Do you known if it's possible to open a table without any "select" (just open and save) ? Do you kown others solutions ? I can develop with DO or ADO.Net.

SQL And CSV Data Import Export

I am using CSV (comma delimeted file) for exporting data from sql server table to CSV and then import to sql server from the CSV.
Now I have a problem, I could sucessfully export the data to CSV, but one of the field which has whole html for each product is giving me problem, It wouldnt save in one cell as for other data items in a record are. If I remove that field, the rest of records are exported okay, but with this one, it do export, but the data wouldnt go to one cell of the excel file and hence wouldnt work in importing to sql. I guess some tags in the string is creating problem plus also what should I do if the string already have comma as data, and we use comma as delimiting character.
Any kind of help greatly appreciated
