I'm reading data from sets of CSV source files with " text qualifiers. Most of the data is good, but I do run into some bad data that doesn't seem to get handled by redirecting rows. The type of data that is killing me is this:

I have a peculiar problem with a database.
I need to import data from text files where one column matches a value in a table that's already on the database. I cannot even fathom how to do this without pulling the entire 1GB file onto the database and simply deleting data that doesn't match the criteria. While this would work, I'm sure there's a more efficient way to do it! Can anyone give me some pointers? I'm not exactly a DTS expert.

I created a SSIS package to extract data from a flat file source and load them into a table in a data base. After I created the package i checked it in to source control(perforce).
But the problem is once a month new flat source file comes and data should be updated.
Once the new flat file comes, is there anyway that SSIS package can identify the path of the flat file and execute the package automatically? In Flat file source only the data will be changed. Not location or data type or anything.
Can i use parameters to do that?

I want to design an SSIS package that loads data from files into SQL Server and I want to automate the process. My major issue is that the source file doesnt come in the same format. Some times I comes in either .csv , .xls , .txt or even .rpt file format. Is there a way I can write a code that checks through my folder and based on the available format on the folder it loads the value in ssis.

There is a small problem encountered while creating a package in sql
server 2005.
Actually i am using a flat file which has 820 rows and 2 columns which
are seperated by line feed(for ROW) and tab(for COLUMN).after
importing i found that ther are only 800 rows imported into the table.
Ather verifying the input file i found out that there are some null
values in the second column so there is no line feed for those
values.
Can anyone please help me how to give multiple delimiters for the same
input flat file.

Destination table is having one more column.
I want to add custom value in that column at run time by parameter to Dtexec(User::varDate)

I am working in one company and currently I am assigned to new project for Data Migration from company X to our company Y using SSIS. I am totally new and i just completed 5 tutorial which was gien on MSDN website.
Basically client is going to send us first flat file with 1 million records with Header, Detail and Trailer records.
I want to create a Package in such a way that it dumps all this first load into 7 to 8 different tables at a time.
we also have to include functionlity for validation and error check.
On successfull load error file should only return Header and Trailer but no detail records.
If there are any errors then error file should contain Header, Detail records which were unable to load plus trailer which we have to sent back to client.
When 2nd file comes that time we have to check whether this is new records or change (update) one depending on Flag which tells it.
This is basically high level idea of my Package what i need to create. If u guys have any question then let me know.
I know you guys are very experienced one. Anyone of you please give me some detail idea on it I would really appricate it.
I have very limited time line for it.

its my flow in one of my packates (ETL job)
Excel file contains monthly revenue details, i wanna import the excel data to my database staging table, so i've created the package.
its working fine...
Problem
if we change the new data for the next month and running the package its not running;
the same file, same format, only we delete the contents, of the file except first row of the excel sheet,
and pasting the new data;
new data is coming from Oracle DataBase in the form of excel sheet ( manually they will copy the data and sending to us)
i open that package in design mode and while double clicking the excel file source it says <column name>'s Meta Data needs to be synchronized
Do you want to Fix this issue automatically with the available external column's meta data
Clearly noted that its a data type issue; i have changed the corresponding data types as it is in the previous Excel sheet which is equivalant to the Table its copying to.
now the package is running with validation warnings, External Column "Invoice Amount" needs to be updated...etc. some 2 or three warning messages i can able to see in the package Execution wizard,
ok, i'm ready to accept these warnings, and i want my package running from my server;( packages had been deployed in to the Centeralized server; every time if we want to run the package, we have the asp.net webpage, that is executing the package in an On_click event)
The package is not running from the server, its due to the meta data change in the Excel file( i guess)
please suggest me some guide lines to resolve this meta data issue, i want my excel sheet meta data should not change when we have new updates in it;
otherwise suggest me some solutions that i can validate the excel sheet before running the package and testing whether the data is in correct format or not? its a kind of Data Profiling activity;
i know its some what crazy, but i need to maintain the system with permanent solution, instead of facing this meta data mismatch issue!!!

Please shed me light on this weird problem I have struggled the whole day with...
I created a new sql data source , but each time when I reload teh packages it gives me the erros saying: cant not find the connection and it says log in failed for the user(the username assigned for access to that SQL server database source)? But what happened was each time I have to open up the connection from the connection manager to refresh it? But still when I reloads it the same problem happened for the whole package project.
I have created the enrironment variable for that data source first, rebooted the computer, add the new configuration to the SSIS packages by SSIS Configuration wizard, and then create the configuration file for it. I think that is the steps to produce it. Why I still got the same problem?

I created a SSIS package. It imports data from a flat file and then transfer to different data types and load it into destination table. I use look up transformation. Actually before I created final table, I created another intermediate data table for references.
Now I get a new source file once in a month. Then I'm supposed to connect new file and run the package. only difference in new source file is the data not data type. But when I connect the new flat file, package does not work. first one and fifth one are red when I run the package.
Can anyone help me to fix this?

I'm creating a SSIS in the designer view of SQL Server BI Dev. Studio (SQL Server 2005)
I need to import a whole table from MS Access into my local SQL Server.(this task will be performed weekly, so once working I'll schedule a job for it)
I've created a 'FILE' connection to MS Access in the 'Connection Managers'.
When I'm on the 'Data Flow' tab I can't find a Data Flow Item to use as a MS Access connection.
(available on the 'Data Flow Sources' are only: DataReader, Excel, Flat File, OLE DB, Raw File and XML Sources)
What am I doing wrong/missing?

It's been a while since I post here. Anyway, I'm trying to call a SSIS package as my data source for SQL reporting service but I keep getting the error "Cannot create a connection to data source 'DsSSIS'.
My DsSSIS consists of the following in the connection string.
="/file c:FarmBillTesting.dtsx /Set Package.Variables[User::FilterValue].Properties[Value];" & Parameters!FilterValue.Value.ToString()
I have tried everything that I know to make this work but I have been able to do so. Any help from the group would be great.

Another requirement has cropped up with regard to picking up connection settings for data sources from an external File.
My source and target are both in SQL Server. What i need is that if my source or target changes I should just change my external file and same should reflect in my package.
How can I accomplish it? Please suggest some solution.

I want to download data from an AS/400 to a SQL 2005 Database.
Within Sql server 2000 it was possible to do more than 1 transformation with just 1 source connenction and 1 destination.
In SSIS I have created:
- new solution
- data source
- Data source viewer ( I made named queries to format the data as i want it to be in Sql)
Although it is possible to view the named query data it does not seem to be possible to import the data in the data viewer into my sql 2005 database. (For each dataflow I have to define each query again)
I have added the data source in the connection manager.
Also I am searching to import more than 1 file in 1 package !
I can use however a Dts-2000 package but why then use SQL server 2005

I'm using a shared data source to connect an Oracle server in my packages. After changing the database user password in the shared data source, I noticed the package concerned would fail with the following description.
Source: "OraOLEDB"Â Hresult: 0x80004005Â Description: "ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied".
Is there a way to ensure the packages will use the latest information in the shared data source? I did do a Rebuild before executing the packages.
I am trying to create and later read a data file from a package deployed in SSISDB, but it is not reading it while it is successfully creating the file. The same package when run from the file system package, runs successfully. Generating ispac and deploying in SSISDB is running for infinite time. Is it a permission issue?

I have this SSIS data flow ( Flat file to sql server) that I want to add a step to redirect any "bad" data instead of fail out.
I had the red arrow hocked up to a sql new table to dump the bad data, but the flow still failed.
Here is the first error, and I knew what was wrong. A description field in that line has pipe(|) character in it, which also happen to be the column delimiter in this case.
[Flat File Source [1]] Error: Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "Column 22" returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page.".
I knew if I fixed the data, every thing will be fine, but I just want to use this redirect feature of SSIS. Is there a place where I can turn off validation, or do something to make it work?

I believe this is simple requirement but to me it seems to be complicated. My data source is excel. I would like to configure the path of my data source in SSIS Package and file name is not a constant value. SSIS package should pick the file named as Today's (current) date from the configured path. As well, package should catch the exception for example file not found and log into custom log. It would be gr8 if some body helps me out.
I am attempting to pull in data from a flat file data source that contains dates in the following format "01012007 10:22" which translates to Month Day Year and Military Time. I want to turn this into a DateTime format so that I can insert it into the proper column. I have a SQL statement which will do this (see bellow), but I can't figgure out how to run the statement on the data before it reaches its destination.

my package has a flat file source that should be extracting data from a text file passing the data to the next component in the data flow. the package validates fine, but the data isn't flowing. however, i see the data in the source component. i added a data viewer between the source and the next component to see if any data flowed and saw no data. can someone suggest how i should go about trying to debug this? thanks.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create sql code that restores a backup of a master database to a new database on the same server. It “seems” to run correctly as no errors are produced. However, the most recent updates to the master database are not present in the new databases. All databases are using the Full recovery model. What is really strange is that if I do (what I think is) the same function in Enterprise Administrator, the restore works fine! For both methods I used the same backup file!

The master databases from which the backups are made start with “MODTRNMaster”
The databases which are created from the restores start with “M1_” and “M2_”. (We call them training room databases.)

I'm getting a bit lost in SSIS. I've got an Excel source file that I'm trying to load into a table. I keep getting validation errors that warn about not being able to convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types.
I'm trying figure out where I have to change this and am frankly confused. It seems SSIS is selecting various columns as unicode/WSTR data types, but I want them to import as regular string types.
On the Data Flow tab in SSIS, I right-click on the source Data Flow component (the Excel file) and select Show Advanced Editor. Then on the last tab, Input and Output Properties, there's a tree view for the Excel output. There are "External Columns" and "Output Columns" containers in the tree view.
I tried setting some of these but they don't seem to "take". Do I need to change the data type for each column under both the External and Output columns?
That seems like a lot of work! And, as I say, I tried setting some, but I still got the same validation errors. So, then I go back to this spot (Advanced Editor -> Input and Output Properties tab) and my changes seem to have been lost.
Any help would be appreciated!

I am trying to impliment a SSIS package where data source is a Flat file(.csv) file and destination is a sql server database.
The problem is my data source a flat file which consists of thousands of rows which are manually entered, so there is always a chance that in some rows they may miss a column value while entering data which results in an error.
Example: My flat file has headers like Sln, Name, Age, Designation. While entering data they may miss age and type it as 1,aaa,Consultant,,
Using SSIS package i want to track all row number in the flat file where data is entered wrongly so that i can correct only that row instead of checking all rows each time when my SSIS package throughs an error. I want to get all the row numbers in a sql server database which are wrongly entered.
Any suggestions are sincerly apriciated.

I was getting the product error associated with the full version of SSIS not installed so I ran the installation again and selected the Integration Services check box.
Now when attempting to import data into a database, the drop down list doesn't have a flat file option.
How do I import data from a txt, csv file?

In DTS 2000 I had a situation where I had a text file as input source and text file as output source. On migrating the package to 2005 it puts a wrapper around it which executes it as a 2000 package, the rest of the tasks are neatly converted to 2005 style tasks. I presume this to mean that this will not be supported through to the next version, and there is no direct equivalent in 2005.
My question is how do I import a non-flat file source which has different numbers of columns per line. I did ,somehow, manage to do this with 2000 but cannot seem to get anywhere with 2005.
The flat file source seems to be expecting a common number of columns and just can't seem to cope with no column delimiters on some lines. If anybody knows different I would be glad to hear about it.
Raw data is not helpful to me as only works with a specific raw type (apparently)
Went onto Bulk Insert Task but got this message
[Bulk Insert Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Cannot fetch a row from OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)".The OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.Bulk load: An unexpected end of file was encountered in the data file.".
Have already browsed with this on web but only find comments about changing timeout setting.
Can find timeout settings in DataFlow source and DataFlow destinations but not in Bulk Insert Task.
As you can see this is a long and protracted question.
If the answer is simple I apologise if not blame Microsoft. Other than that have found SSIS has some nice improvements, apart from the odd vague error message I keep coming across.

In one of my SSIS Interface I have to Merge data from a Oledb source and a Flat file source.But after I read from the flat file I have do a basic validation of the file for the length of header,detail and trailer records and then process further.The above Validation I am doing within Script Component.If the validation fails the flow should pass out of the DataFlowTask without Initailsing the Oledb source.
But the problem is i am not able to connect anything to the Oledb source,i.e Oledb source is not taking any incoming Pointers.
Earlier I had done the same Validation in Control Flow Task,but then the interface was reading the same file twice,once in the Control Flow Task and then again in the DataFlowTask.Which i should avoid now.
I hope many of you could have come across such a problem.
Any help on this will be appreciated.

I'm getting a very strange potential loss of data error on my flat file source in the data flow. The flat file is fixed width and the column in question is defined as numeric [DT_NUMERIC]. The transform runs great if this column IS NOT A ZERO. As soon as a zero value is found, I get the error. It errors on the flat file source, so I haven't been able to use a data viewer to see what's going on.
