1 Log File Can Contain More Records After Performing Backup Database Statement, 2 Why Can't Insert Data When Is Log Is Not Full

i found that database log file can contain more records after performing backup database statement.
for example:
i create a database and limit the log file to 2mb. then i create a table and insert data.
If i backup the database before i insert data , the database file can contain 192 records unitl the log file is full.
If i don't perform the 'backup database' statement.
The 'dbcc sqlperf(logspace)' indicate the utilization ratio is less than 40% after inserting 192 records
why?

question 2:
i create a database and limit the log file to 2mb. Then i create a table and insert data in an endless loop.
After the inserting operation executing for a while, the 9002 error occurs, indicate the log file for the database is full.
But the 'dbcc sqlperf(logspace)' command indicate the unilization ratio is low, and log_reuse_wait_desc in sys.database is 'CHECKPOINT'
And I can insert data , and i'm sure the state of log_use_wait_desc is 'CHECKPOINT'.
As i known, the checkpoint can't truncate log under full recovery model. Only the back log operation can truncate the transaction log.
So log is not full, why 9002 error is encounterd. and why the log_reuse_wait_desc return 'CHECKPOINT'?

I'm new to SQL Server 2005 SSIS. I'm trying to do something very simple, but I cannot figure it out, PLEASE HELP!
I have a flat file, which I read and then insert the data in a database table, that works fine. The problem is that I don't want to insert duplicate records. For example; if I run the package again, it will appent to the table. What I need to do is that if the package runs again, check if the record already exist, based one two columns, date and hour, and do not insert the record.

Insert Command Fails When I Want To Insert Records In Data Table

I am also using the wizard control to design a simple question and answer form that logged in users have access to.
it has 2 questions including a text box for Q1 and dropdown list for Q2.
I have a table in my database called "Players" which has 3 Columns
UserId Primary Key of type Unique Identifyer
PlayerName Type String
PlayerGenre Type Sting
On completing the wizard and clicking the finish button, I want the data to be inserted into the SQl express Players table.
I am having problems getting this to work and keep getting exceptions.
Be very helpful if somebody could check the code and advise where the problem is??

Mar 27, 2008im having an issue with sql server 2005 express on a test box. in recent testing, ive encountered errors with the database that i havent encountered before. im trying to use an app to add records to some tables in a database, 1 record at a time. but in doing so i get this
"The transaction log for database 'ScanOrder2' is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases"
with every insert of a record.
this process was working fine 2 days ago and i cant find anything
thats been changed.
- i deleted the database and tried restoring it from a backup that is
known to work, but still has the issue
- the recovery model is set to simple. every night a batch script is
run to truncate the log file in case there is a transaction that uses
a lot of records
- i can insert and delete records manually with no problems (ie going
in through SSMSE and highlighting a row and deleting it or adding
random data) but i still cant add it through the app
- the log file is set to autogrow unrestricted at 10 megs at a time.
- i even tried setting the log file to 500 megs starting size, and
still couldnt even insert 1 record
- when i check the log_reuse_wait_desc, it says NOTHING, when not
running and while running.
is there any other setting i could be missing that might attribute to
this?

but i want to insert the data into table having two columns. if iam trying to insert the data into table having two columns its not inserting.
can anyone help me how to do this?

i have 4 tables: items; categories; categorization; old_items
the old_items table has both the item id and category fields in it, the new db has them separated: items.id; categories.id; categorization.itemId, categorizaton.parentCategoryId, both of which are foreign keys.
i need to get the old_item.id and old_item.category values into the new categorization table but it keeps choking on the foreign keys and i can't get past it. as far as i've been able to figure out so far, i need to turn off the foreign keys to do the insert but i'm not sure and i haven't been able to find any sql query examples that demonstrate it or explain it well enough for my n00b self.
i've read http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/10cetyt6.aspx, "How to: Disable Foreign Key Constraints with INSERT and UPDATE Statements" but i don't get how that affects it, it seems like one of the other options would actually disable them.
can anyone help? i've been trying all the permutations of queries i can think of and not getting it.

Attendance Records - Bulk Insert In Student Database
Apr 5, 2012I have a csv that contains attendance records that I get daily from a 3rd party grade book solution. I need to import directly into the attend table in our student database.
Code:

The file is setup as follows, School Year, school number, student_id, absence date, absence code, course number, section number.
I need to check the student schedule to see if they are scheduled for that class when the import runs. So if they had a schedule change in the middle of the day it won't post attend to a dropped class.
I have done something similar to this before with the way I export teachers out to our grade book. I have it check the master schedule to see if the teacher is teaching at least one class, that way it won't export tutors and office staff to the grade book. I used the script below to do that but not sure who to apply it to a bulk insert.

But I get the error:
Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_Users'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.Users'.
But I am using the max User_id + 1, so it can't be duplicate
This would insert about 20 records.

When I open the linked table in access it does not allow me to add a record. I have created a user account in mssql that has ownership to the database and I use this user in setting up the odbc link.

Mar 28, 2015Our system runs a SQL Server 2012 DB, it has a table (table_a) which has over 10M records. Our system have to receive data file from previous system daily which contains approximate 3M updated or new records for table_a. My job is to update table_a with the new data.
The initial solution is:
1 Create a table (table_b) which structur is as the same as table_a
2 Use BCP to import updated records into table_b
3 Remove outdated data in table_a:
delete from table_a inner join table_b on table_a.key_fileds = table_b.key_fields
4 Append updated or new data into table_a:
insert into table_a select * from table_b
As the test result, this solution is very inefficient. Step 3 costs several hours, e.g. How can I improve it?

This puts some values including a pdf or .doc file into a table, tblDocTable.
Is it possible to change this so that I can get the values from a table rather than as parameters. The Query would be in the form of: insert into tblDocTable (a, b, c, d) select a,b,c,d from tblimportExport.
tblImportExport has the path for the document (DocPath) so I would subsitute that field, ie. DocPath, for the @fPath variable.
Otherwise I can see only doing a Fetch next from tblIportExport where I would put every field into a variable and then run this exec query on these. Thus looping thru every row in tblImportExport.
Any ideas how to do this?
How To Dump Records From The Table To The Flat File?
May 21, 2001I'm using sqlserver 2000 enterprise edition. I am an oracle dba and we have some tables in sqlserver 2000 that we need to write out to the flat file. I have a procedure in oracle to do this for oracle tables. But, how would I do this in sqlserver 2000. I have 10 columns on this table and I only want 3 columns data to be dumped on the flat file. We are on NT sever 4.0.

May 23, 2014I have to export the records of a table in a .txt file but in a strange way (in a column). For example I have this table with 3 fields:
create table prova
(cod varchar(1),
des1 varchar(2),
des2 Varchar (2)
)
insert into prova values (1, 'A1', 'A2')
insert into prova values (2, 'B1', 'B2')
I need to have the output in this way:
1 cod 1
1 des1 A1
1 des2 A2
8 S
1 cod 2
1 des1 B1
1 des2 B2
8 S
So, I have to put '1' at the beginning of every field and '8 S' at the end of every record.

If I select "append to" the option to edit SQL shades itself asunavailable.The reason I'd like this is that there is a datum in the flat file thatindicates whether that record should be appended to that table notedabove. There are other ways of dealing with this "problem" but it wouldbe nice to be able to control it using SQL, in the DTS import/exportwizard.If the source of my data is an SQL table, I can generate an SQL queryto specify what fields to import in an append, to check for existingvalues, etc...Is there a way around this? I can reserve a table for data transfers,regularly overwrite it with new data from text file inputs, and use SQLto insert select fields from that transfer table to other databasetables. (From this "transfer" table, data needs to be inserted intofour separate tables in our database).I hope this is clear. If it CAN'T be done this way, it's okay...just alittle ugly with the need to re-create the transfer table.
