Best Method To Access Web Service

Aug 14, 2007

We have a billing web service where you passs in the account and amount and get returned an XML string with result.
I had suggested that I open up an endpoint and have the service listen for messages but the programming team wont go for it.

What is the best method for me to call an external web service? I have tried sp_OACreate and run into memory leaks and have not had much luck with assemblies. See http://www.codeproject.com/script/comments/forums.asp?forumid=1725&select=2180035&df=100&msg=2180035

Bug In SSRS SetItemDataSources Web Service Method

Dec 19, 2007

Bug:

An existing SSRS 2005 data source at the root directory cannot be used by the SSRS SetItemDataSource web method.

Steps to reproduce:
1. On the machine running SSRS 2005, create a folder named Reports and upload an RDL file named "Existing.rdl" into that directory. For clarity the SSRS path to this report is /Reports
2. Set up a valid data source at the root directory (For illustrative purposes we'll name it DS).
3. Set up a web reference to a SQL Server Reporting Web Services 2005. e.g. http://localhost/reportserver/reportservice2005.asmx

3. Try to set the DS data source to the "Existing" report by calling the SetItemDataSource web method.

C# Code Excerpt:
...
try{

ReportingService2005 reprtSrvc = new ReportingService2005();

DataSource[] dsarray;
string reportName = "Existing"
string _selectedFolder = "/Reports/"
DataSourceReference reference = new DataSourceReference();
DataSource ds = new DataSource();
dsarray = new DataSource[1];
reference.Reference = "/";
ds.Item = reference;
ds.Name = "DS";
dsarray[0] = ds;
//Exception thown ...
_reprtSrvc.SetItemDataSources("/" + _selectedFolder + reportName , dsarray);
}
catch (SoapException ex)
{
//Exception
Message.displayMessage(ex.Detail["Message"].InnerXml, MessageType.Error);

}
...

Exception details...

ex {"System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The operation you are attempting on item "" is not allowed for this item type. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.WrongItemTypeException: The operation you are attempting on item "" is not allowed for this item type. at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.SetItemDataSourcesAction.ResolveNewDataSources(DataSourceInfoCollection newDataSources, Boolean forModel) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.SetItemDataSourcesAction.SetReportDataSources(CatalogItem item, DataSource[] dataSources) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.SetItemDataSourcesAction.PerformActionNow() at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.RSSoapAction`1.Execute() at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.ReportingService2005Impl.SetItemDataSources(String Item, DataSource[] DataSources) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.ReportingService2005Impl.SetItemDataSources(String Item, DataSource[] DataSources) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.ReportingService2005.SetItemDataSources(String Item, DataSource[] DataSources)"} System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException

SSRS Web Service Render Method Documentation?

Dec 28, 2007

Hi all does anyone know where I can find more information on the Render method of the Reporting Services WS?
Specifically there is a DeviceInfo parameter that you need to pass in and it is a string that is in an XML format but I cannot seem to find any documentation on the specifics of it. I have seen a few examples but no specifics.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated?

Thank you,

Web Service Access

Oct 17, 2006

Hi there,
I have a problem accessing web service using Web service Task.
I set up the task and can see methods available, but the result of execution is only that:
<Result>The result is null. Either the result is null or the Web method returns void.</Result>
I can connect and get data using C# application. The difference is that I use a token in connection there.
What should I do with Web Service Task to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Looking For Mentor (service) For Help Designing Web Client For DB Access

Apr 24, 2008

I work at a place that does device testing where the test results are saved in a SQL database. I have an objective to create a plan for a pilot project to place the data on our intranet so our engineering dept can research test results.

I'm trying to find some group I can beg / borrow / pay to look at our schema and help me chart out what tools we should use and how much (ballpark) work is involved.

I'm a VB.NET developer. I did a tutorial on SQL Reporting Services and see potential there. I skimmed a tutorial on SQL Analysis services, and like the idea of being able to trend our data. But it's over my head at this point to get from where I'd like to be to what Microsoft tools to use and how to put them together.

I contacted one local DB/Developer shop and they wanted to bring in a team of engineers for two days and charge us $6000 for a "total solution". Instead of that, I'd like to maybe spend an hour on the phone and some emails to send a schema to someone who knew the tools inside/out and get a pretty good recommendation for a reasonable price.

Any ideas on how I can find such help?

thanks much - Mark

Am Unable To Access SSIS Even Though The Service Is Up And Running.

Nov 13, 2007

I've lost access to SSIS and BIDS.

I'm a SQL 2005 developer DBA with a 1.5 years experience with SQL Server 2005. It has been a while since I needed to use SSIS. I used it with no problems earlier this year when I was managing the team conversion to SQL Server 2005. Now it no longer appears on my START > Programs > SQL Server 2005 menus. I had to reinstall SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 months ago and must have lost it then some how.

How do I get access to BIDS and SSIS again?

SQL Server Integrated Services shows up in my Services list as running.
I've already tried Add/Remove Programs to drop that component from SQL Server 2005, reboot, Add it back, reboot. Still does not show up in my menus and the Service is running. The Setup Bootstraplog summary for this effort shows no failures and shows this:

SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied After Service Pack 2?

Sep 22, 2004

My SQL Server and MSDE, running under Windows XP, has been operating fault free since a year. Suddenly I cannot connect with the error "SQL Server Does Not Exist or Access Denied". I cannot find anything abnormal in the Client nor the SQL server.
The only changes in my PC are done when installing the updates and the problem started after I installed Service Pack 2. Is this just a coincident or could there be some relation with the new Security centre in Service pack 2.
I have compared with the same set up in another PC without Service Pack 2 and there everything works fine.
Any suggestions please?

With this I also couldn't start the webfront end any more. Switching back to NT-AuthorityNetwork Serive the web front end worked again.

I tryed to add

It would be great if someone could help me to adjust the settings...

When I try to connect to the database using the account with the password I get [login failed for domainid]. The DBA mentioned that its setup to use windows auth, however, I can't connect with this service account using windows Auth, due to I'm using to connect via code.

How can I connect to the database from my code using this ID?

I have the ID and pwd in my code to connect with, does the ID have to be setup differently in the Database?

Installation Issue - Access To Path Denied On Service Start

Dec 28, 2006

Hi,
I have a generally well working silent installer of SQL Server sp1, that installs a named of SQL Express then runs some create database scripts on it.

I have a customer for whom this fails. It appears that the SQL server service does not start. When I tell the client (non-computer literate!) to start it manually through Admin Tools>Service, a message appears saying "Access to the path denied", and seemingly doesn't specify the path of the denial.

Has anyone encountered this, or is anyone able to hazard a guess as to the cause of this issue.

Many thanks,
Chris

Problem Using SSIS Script Component To Access SRSS Service....

Feb 19, 2007

I've followed all of the instructions in Donald Farmer's book to create a proxy to access my SSRS web service but keep getting the following error..."Type ReportingServices2005 is not defined"....on my Dim statement for the new ReportingServices2005.dll I created and all my methods (ListSubscriptions, etc.) are similarly flagged.

My brain is not yet .Net compliant so I probably screwed this up somewhere.

I executed the following....

wsdl /language:VB http://ssrs_servername/reportserver/reportservice.asmx

sn €“k "C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8SDKv2.0Bin
s.snk"

vbc /target:library /out:ReportingServices2005.dll /keyfile:"C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8SDKv2.0Bin
s.snk" "C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8SDKv2.0BinReportingService.vb"

gacutil /if "C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727ReportingServices2005.dll"

then I added a reference to the System.Web.Services to my project (script component) and added the import statement to the script.

Is there something I'm missing??

SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied Error When Trying To Connect From A Windows Service

Apr 10, 2007

Hi!
I understand that this topic is one of the most discussed topics ever. However i could not find the relevant information after going through (almost) all the posts so far. Hence this post. I am getting the 'SQL Server does not exist or access denied' error when I am trying to access SQL Server from a WINDOWS SERVICE. SQL Server and the Windows service are running on two different machines. (When they are on the same machine, it works). All the solutions I found so far are related to web apps. What should I do in the case of a windows service? My connection string uses SQL server authentication. (I tried with windows authentication. Its not working either.). Under what login does windows services run and how can I add it to valid SQL server logins?

SQLCLR +Enterprise Library Data Access And Service Broker Internal Activation

Mar 10, 2007

I am trying to find a solution to my woes creating CLR activation stored procedure that references Enterprise library data access dlls. Does anyone know best practices to deploy .NET 2.0 assemblies as SQLCLR. I am using VS2005 SqlClrProject to deploy my .NET 2.0 assemblies to Sql Server and it fails with error such as "Assembly was not found in the sql catalog". If I manually try to load a referenced assembly within SqlServer by browsing to the target location, like for example, System.Management.dll it fails with similar error, trying to resolve its dependencies. Even if I manage to walk through the dependency tree and resolve it to the final dependent dll, I am only able to load it in "UNSAFE" mode. Any recommendations, suggestions and feedback are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I have installed sqlserver 2005 using the standard msdn universal installation discs on my laptop running vista business.

The mssqlserver service will not start automatically as the setup configures it
and I cannot start the service manually because I get the 'Access Denied' error message

I am logged on the the computer with adminstration privileges

Thank for all help received in advance,

Dave.....

The SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) Service Terminated With Service-specific Error 10013.

Jul 12, 2007

I have an almost virgin install of SQLExpres running on a WIN2K Pro system.

Have been able to create and connect db to Access 2000 without problem.

Now I wish to extend to remote connections. Using Surface Area Configuration tool, I changed Remote Connections to Local and Remote.

Whenever this setting contains TCP/IP and I try to restart the service I receive the following errors:

System Log:

The SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) service terminated with service-specific error 10013.

Application Log:

Server TCP provider failed to listen on [ 'any' <ipv4> 0]. Tcp port is already in use.

TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x271d, status code 0xa.

TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x271d, status code 0x1.

Could not start the network library because of an internal error in the network library. To determine the cause, review the errors immediately preceding this one in the error log.

SQL Server could not spawn FRunCM thread. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems.

If I change back to Local Connections Only or Local and Remote using named pipes only, the service starts up again without a problem.

After five days of investigating, researching, reinstalling and waiting I have to ask for help.

Any suggestions or leads?

Thank You in advance.

What Permissions Are Required For SQL Server Service Account To Call Web Service Using CLR Integration?

May 18, 2007

Hello! I have the following problem. I developed CLR Stored Procedure "StartNotification" and deploy it on db. This sp calls external web service. Furthermore, this sp is called according with SQL Server Agent Job's schedule. On my PC SQL Server works under Local System account and this web service is called correctly (Executed as user: NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM). But on ther other server the following exception is raised during job running:
Date 17.04.2007 16:42:10
Log Job History (FailureNotificationJob)

Step ID 1
Server MSK-CDBPO-01
Job Name FailureNotificationJob
Step Name MainStep
Duration 00:00:00
Sql Severity 16
Sql Message ID 6522
Operator Emailed
Operator Net sent
Operator Paged
Retries Attempted 0

Message
Executed as user: CORPmssqlserver.
A .NET Framework error occurred during execution
of user defined routine or aggregate 'StartNotification':
System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type
'System.Net.WebPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. System.Security.SecurityException:
at System.Security.CodeAccessSecurityEngine.Check(Object demand,
StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean isPermSet)
at System.Security.CodeAccessPermission.Demand()
at System.Net. The step failed.

What is the reason of this behaviour? Unfortunately I do not have direct access to this server.
I have the following guesses:
1) CORPmssqlserver may have not enough permissions to call web service
2) Something wrong with SQL Server account's permissions
2) Something wrong with SQL Server Agent account's permissions
I will take the will for the deed. Thanks.

X-ref Documentation For DTS-package,views,tables,Reporting Service,Analyze Service

Mar 27, 2006

We are using the whole BI-package from Microsoft - from SQL, DTS-package,Raporting Service and Analyze Service.

It should be very helpful to be able to create a metadata databases where you could find all releations between different objects (tables,views,reports,cubes,DTS-package,Databases.

Just to get answer for: 'where is view xxx used', 'what are Report xxx depending upon'.

While everything exists in different SQL databases it should possible to do.

Has anyone any comments or the same needs ?
