Hello,
I have a table that stores binary files. When I serve them up to the user, I call the following page (serveDocument.aspx?DocumentID=xxx) which holds only the following code and pass the document ID: Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim DocumentID As Integer = Convert.ToInt32(Request.QueryString("DocumentID"))
'Connect to the database and bring back the image contents & MIME type for the specified picture
Using myConnection As New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("kelly_lmConnectionString1").ConnectionString)
Const SQL As String = "SELECT [Content_Type], [Document_Data] FROM [lm_Service_Detail_Documents] WHERE [Document_id] = @Document_id"
Dim myCommand As New SqlCommand(SQL, myConnection)
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Document_id", DocumentID)
myConnection.Open()
Dim myReader As SqlDataReader = myCommand.ExecuteReader
If myReader.Read Then
Response.ContentType = myReader("Content_Type").ToString()
Response.BinaryWrite(myReader("Document_Data"))
End If
myReader.Close()
myConnection.Close()
End Using
End Sub
It works perfectly. But heres the thing: I want users to be able to right click on the link and chose 'Save Target As'. In IE 7, this works fine. In FireFox it saves the document as 'serveDocument.aspx'. Is there any way to inject the filename that I want to save the document as?
I have been trying to store binary file in a folder from the SQL Server.
Here is the code I am using to do this but, it is not working. It doesn't show any error only shows 1 row(s) affected. The folder remains empty after running this query.
Hi All, I am not sure whether this is the right place to post this question. But I am unable to figure out what is the best solution to retrieve and display an image in a html file(stored in varbinary(max) column). I have a list of images in the file and I am supposed to display them. Can anybody please let me know what is the best way to do this? Thanks a lot!!
Is there any way to store a binary or image file into a database record / save a binary or image record back into a file using Transact SQL? If yes, would the "image" data type be most suitable?
(As a background, I am working on a process that deals with incomign emails, and I am using SQL Mail for that purpose. The above is needed to deal with attachments that may come with emails, and which are saved in a physical file on the HDD).
Hi folks,Is it possible to store Binary Files in MS SQL 2000 ??? Say I have a100K PDF or a 150K word document. Is it possible to store this in afield in MS SQL and pull it out somehow? We're using ColdFusion on theserver on Apache.Thanks,Ringo
I am new to VC# and SQL Express. I am currently trying to find a way to store user selected files into SQL Express. I am using a column with the varbinary(MAX) data type. My current thought is to give the user a open file dialog box, and let them select the file they want to upload. On closing this dialog box, I convert the file selected into a file stream and insert into SQL Express.
Is this method a good one? If anyone else can give me pointers or hints to better methods, please do!
I'm deploying a desktop application with Sql CE 3.5. I have a collection of files that I would like to be save as a binary format in SQL CE. These files range from 1KB to 5MB. I know I cannot use varbinary(max) , instead I am limited to varbinary(8000), but this obvisously comes short of 5MB. There are articles stating to use the image datatype to get around this. Is this just bad practice, should I keep the files on the file system or take advantage of this work around? Do you have any suggestions?
i have a table with rows of file names and paths. what i'm trying to do is process each file and store it in my sql database. i want to store the files as binary files (they are word and excel and pdf files) anyone know a way to do this? it would especially be useful if i could do this with a console application so i can schedule it
I work for a company that makes heat transfers for the imprinted apparel market. We're developing a database of merchandise images for all of our non-design inventory. Using Access we're going to be inserting thumbnails of psd (photoshop) files. We're wondering if there is any way to import multiple psd's into the sql server database into matching records like matching a column named "filename" and the actual filename of the file without having to upload each file individually. We want to be able to dump the files from the database of the matching records, also. This way, once our catalog designer has found which designs they need to put into the new catalog, it will dump the psd's for us. The same for our staffer who does color separations.
Any suggestions out there? If you need me to post further of what we're trying here, I will. This is for the bossman.
i need to store a bmp or zipped file in a field of a ms sql db. i read the file using vb6 o.net, and in my mind i think sto store it in binary mode. the files could be more of 12 mega. whitch kind of field a could use?
Hi When images are uploaded and stored directly into a sql database as binary data (eg in the club starter kit) how can those images be accessed and displayed. When I open the images table in VWD and select display data, the cells holding the image data hold a <binary data> tag. What I want to be able to do is get at that data, or actually get at the image so that it is displayed. My reason is this, at the moment the only way to access the images in the sql database after they have been uploaded is to log into the website and view them as an administrator of the site. It would be much simpler if I could access the database directly and view the contents of the images table. Any ideas? Thanks
We run std 2008 r2, I need to recreate flat files from their varbinary(max) equivalents in our db. I have a mix of excel, pdf, word etc to recreate. Will ssis be a good tool for doing this?  I'm wondering what transform(s) would be involved.Â
Perhaps I need to cast to varchar 1st and then land the data but if I recall correctly there is a maximum record length in ssis destination flat file rows. And I'm thinking I would have to map the varbinary (or cast equiv) to a row in the destination once for each file created.  Â
Using ASP.net I need to be able to save and retrieve PDF Files in SQL.I believe the best way to do this is through a BLOB datatype.I have been searching (without luck) for a tutorial/code sample explaining how to do this.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Chrisp.s. I know many prefer to store the files on the server and simply store pointers to the files in SQL, but I need to store the actual files in SQL.
There is a "text" file generated by mainframe and it has to be uploaded to SQL Server. I've reproduced the situation with smaller sample. Let the file look like following: A17 123.17 first row BB29 493.19 second ZZ3 18947.1 third row is longer And in hex format: 00: 41 31 37 20 20 20 20 20 ”‚ 31 32 33 2E 31 37 20 20 A17 123.17 10: 66 69 72 73 74 20 72 6F ”‚ 77 0D 0A 42 42 32 39 20 first row™ª—™BB29 20: 20 00 20 34 39 33 2E 31 ”‚ 39 20 20 73 65 63 6F 6E 493.19 secon 30: 64 0D 0A 5A 5A 33 20 20 ”‚ 20 20 20 31 38 39 34 37 d™ª—™ZZ3 18947 40: 2E 31 20 74 68 69 72 64 ”‚ 20 72 6F 77 00 69 73 20 .1 third row is 50: 6C 6F 6E 67 65 72 ”‚ longer
I wrote "text" in quotes because sctrictly it is not pure text file - non-text binary zeros (0x00) happen sometimes instead of spaces (0x20).
The table is:
CREATE TABLE eng (
src varchar (512)
)
When i upload this file into SQL2000 using DTS or Import wizard, the table contains:
select src, substring(src,9,8), len(src) from eng < src ><substr> <len> A17 123.17 first row 123.17 25 BB29 493.19 22 ZZ3 18947.1 third row 18947.1 35
As one can see, everything was imported, including binary zeros. And though SELECT * in SSMS truncates strings upon reaching 0x00's, still all information is stored in tables - SUBSTRINGs show that.
When i upload this file into SQL2005 using SSIS or Import wizard the result is following: < src ><substr> <len> A17 123.17 first row 123.17 25 BB29 4 ZZ3 18947.1 third row 18947.1 25
This time table is half-empty - all characters behind binary zeros in respective rows are lost.
I stumbled upon this problem while migrating my DTSes to SSIS packages. Do you think there is some workaround, or i need to turn on some checkbox or smth else could help? Please...
I have a table with 10 rows with a varbinary column
I wish to concatenate all the binary column into a single binary column and then write that to another table within the database. This application splits a binary file (Word or PDF document) into multiple segments (this is Column2 as below)
I'm using a bit-wise comparison to effectively store multiple values in one column. However once the number of values increases it starts to become too big for a int data type.you also cannot perform a bitwise & on two binary datatypes. Is there a better way to store the binary data rather than int or binary?
I proposed on a new server that we separate Data Files, Log Files, tempDB, Backups, etc. onto separate LUNS on a SAN with High Speed Solid State Drives.I was told that with the new technology with solid state SAN's that it would decrease performance and that it did not work the same way as it did when you had RAID 5's etc.I thought that if things were cared out correctly by a SAN Administrator they would know how to configure for optimal performance.
In the For Loop, How to Iterate from Older flat files to Newer flat files based on File's Timestamp. If there are some older files in that folder, it should be processed first and then continue with the newer one.
In the first step of my SSIS package I need to get files from FTP and dump it/them in a local directory, but it's more than that, the logic is like this: 1. If no file(s) found, stop executing and send email saying no file(s) found; 2. If file(s) found, then compare it/them with existing files in our archive folder; if file(s) already exist in archive folder, stop executing and send email saying file(s) already existed, if file(s) not in archive folder yet, then transfer it/them to the local directory for processing.
I know i have to use a script task to do this and i did some research and found examples for each of the above 2 steps and not both combined, so that's why I need some help here to get the logic incorporated right.
Thanks for the help in advance and i apologize for the long lines of code!

It works remotely if I run it via command prompt. But when I add this to a TSQL job on my remote SQL instance, it runs without deleting anything. What I'm missing?

i am using asp.net 2.0 with c#. i have database - mssql server. in that i have tuser table in that table i have password feild which datatype is Binary. when i am entered password in asp.net application that time runtime error is convert the string to binary. my code is---string myByte = Stingtest; System.Text.ASCIIEncoding encoding = new System.Text.ASCIIEncoding();Byte[] bytes = encoding.GetBytes(myByte);myByte = ""; myByte = encoding.GetString(bytes);
Hello,I am trying to serialize (binary) a class and save it in a database. I followed a few examples I found in internet and this is what I came up with: 1 ' Rows 2 <Serializable()> _ 3 Public Class Rows 4 Implements ISerializable 5 6 Private _Rows As New Generic.List(Of Row) 7 Public Property Rows() As Generic.List(Of Row) 8 Get 9 Return _Rows 10 End Get 11 Set(ByVal value As Generic.List(Of Row)) 12 _Rows = value 13 End Set 14 End Property ' Rows 15 16 ' New 17 Public Sub New() 18 End Sub ' New 19 20 ' New 21 Public Sub New(ByVal siRows As SerializationInfo, ByVal scRows As StreamingContext) 22 End Sub ' New 23 24 ' GetObjectData 25 Public Sub GetObjectData(ByVal siRows As SerializationInfo, ByVal scRows As StreamingContext) Implements ISerializable.GetObjectData 26 27 siRows.AddValue("Rows", Me.Rows) 28 29 End Sub ' GetObjectData 30 31 Public Sub Serialize(ByVal filename As String) 32 33 Dim sRows As Stream = Stream.Null 34 Try 35 sRows = File.Open(filename, FileMode.Create, FileAccess.ReadWrite) 36 Dim bfRows As New BinaryFormatter 37 bfRows.Serialize(sRows, Me) 38 Finally 39 sRows.Close() 40 End Try 41 42 End Sub ' Serialize 43 44 Public Shared Function Deserialize(ByVal filename As String) As Rows 45 46 Dim sRows As Stream = Stream.Null 47 Try 48 sRows = File.Open(filename, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read) 49 Dim bfRows As New BinaryFormatter 50 Return CType(bfRows.Deserialize(sRows), Rows) 51 Finally 52 sRows.Close() 53 End Try 54 55 End Function ' Deserialize 56 57 End Class ' Rows After serializing the class I need to save it in an a SQL 2005 database.But all the examples I followed use the filename ... Anyway, do I need to do something to save this into an SQL 2005 database or can I use it as follows? And how can I use this?This is the first time I do something like this so I am a little bit confused.Thanks,Miguel
Hy friends!I'm new in WebApplications that have SQL SERVER DB.My problem is that...In the DataBase I have a table with varbinary column and in the program I want save in this column a value of binary[] variable! How I can make it?Another question.... If I want select (by a query in the application) the value of the binary column, where I store it? because if I want select an integer value I take this in a int variable, and if I want select an string value from a DataBase I take this in a string variable..but How I can make it with binary column?Thanks in advance!!
Hello, I have a table which uses binary data to store passwords. How do I view the contents of the "binary data" column, ie. the passwords? It just shows it as <binary data>?
I have a binary column with length 20 in SQL server table. I store dynamically C# byte[] value range from 0 to 19. So for example, If I store length of 16 and when I try to retrive it back into byte [] in C# it returns whole length 20. When I see in debug it has value from 0 to 15 which I want to use but from 16 to 19 is zero. How can I get just length value which I stored.
I use DataRow to get whole row and from the row object I extract byte [] based on column name.
I have a field in my database defined as a bit. I need to bind this field to a checkbox I have stored in a datgrid on my webform. I'm having problmes finding the right call in the html
We have a dll that sends a hexadecimal data (const. length) to MS SQL Server database. It's declared as String in VB, the db column data type is binary.
Here is the SQL String that has been executed successfully in Query Analyzer:
When I am trying to do the same thing in the insert stored procedure, I get an error message: "Disallowed implicit conversion from data type varchar to data type binary, table 'MyDB.dbo.MyTABLE', column 'MyCOLUMN'. Use the convert function to run this query."
How does one go about getting a graphic image into SQL Server 6.5. For example, let`s say I have a company logo that I want to include in a company profile table to be used on some reports. The graphic is now a .BMP or .GIF or .JPG file.
Can anyone provide me with the syntax for comparing rows of two tables using binary checksum? The tables A and B have 8 & 9 columns respectively. The PK in both cases is Col1 & Col2. I want checksum on Columns 1 to 8.
