Binding Data In The Report At Runtime

Dec 14, 2007

Hi All,

I have written a Query and Stored Procedure in SQL 2000 which fetched around 15 Lac data. It takes around 17 seconds to fetch the data in the Query Analyzer. But when i am using the Query/Stored Procedure in the report and I have deployed it in the server. When i am accessing the report in the application it taking around 2-3 minutes to bind the data.

What might be the issue? My tables in the database has been normalized.

Please help me to sort out this problem.

Binding A SqlDataSource, To A GridView At Runtime

Mar 8, 2006

Hello
I'm experiencing some problems, binding a SqlDataSource to a GridView.
The following code creates the SqlDataSource:            string strConn = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString;            string strProvider = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ProviderName;                        SqlDataSource ds = new SqlDataSource(strProvider, strConn);            ds.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM rammekategori";
Then i bind the SqlDataSource to a GridView:
         GridView1.DataSource = ds;            GridView1.DataBind();

ErrorMessage:
Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0.
Exception Details: System.ArgumentException: Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0.Line 24:             GridView1.DataBind();Am i totally off target here? Can it be something about, that you have to set the datasource of the gridview, before the Page_Load event?

Thanks - MartinHN

Problem Report Binding With Stored Procedure.

Mar 12, 2008

Hi all,

I have some problem about bind field from stored procedure to report.

Now I have dataset that come form stored procedure. In Dataset Dialog, "Fields" tab, I add Fieldname like fieldname in stored procedure. And "Parameters" tab, I add parameters those are neccessary for my stored procedure.

I test on data tab view. When I click "!" to run, then there is input dialog parameter.
I filled it, then the result is ok.

But when I build project, I noticed warning message....

Binding Report/Field 'language' Setting To Query/Parameter Result.

Oct 24, 2007

Hello,

I have a report which displays a customers invoice, in both the companys local currency, and the customers local currency.

The report language is "English (United Kingdom)"
The fields showing customers currency language setting is set to something else, i.e. "France (French)" to display the Euro currency.

The application handles 34 currencies, the query returns the language string, ("France (French)"), to allow the report to bind its language setting to the querys output.

However, it doesn't work, a normal textbox will display the correct country name string, but Reporting Services cannot bind the language setting to a query result. So I also tried setting it as a report parameter, but no joy either (all currencys revert to USD).

I'm using =First(Fields!curFormat.Value, "myDataSet") to bind the 'language' setting, the result of this expression returns "France (French)", which is a valid option for this language setting, as it's in the drop down list.

Rather than create 34 seperate reports for each currency, are there any suggestions on how to bind a fields language setting to a query result?

Loading Image Url Into Report At Runtime

Apr 8, 2008

Hello All,

Unfortunatelly, I am a very newbie when it comes to SQL Server Reporting Rervices

I'm currently working on a prototype for a GIS system. It is a web application where the user can select and scroll certain maps (will look like google maps).
The user can print the currently displayed view of the map (including some other data) via a report using the SQL Server Reporting Services infrastructure.

As far as I know, it is possible to add images on the report at built time (using url, database or file in project). Is it also possible to add an image at runtime by passing as parameter? My idea is that when the user wants to print the report, the url to the image of the map would be send to the server and the server would call the report, passing the url of the user. And the report is printed with the image referenced by that url?

I hope, that you understand somehow, what my problem is... I tried to search this forum, but couldn't find any ideas.

Best regards
Christian

SqlDataAdapter Binding Empty Data

Mar 31, 2004

I have a block of code that does a Fill() with a DataAdapter, which seems to throw an exception if no values are returned. Then, when I try to bind the DataSet that gets filled, an error occurs, it doesn't even try to bind the column headers or anything.

This process seems to work fine when some rows are found, but it is not always guaranteed that the row count will always be > 0. The nice thing about using the Fill() function, is that it creates all my column headers automatically, so I was just wondering if there's a way to do a Fill() then a subsequent DataBind() to a DataGrid which would automatically format the columns even when no rows are found?

Here's a bit of the source.. if the last line finds no rows, it throws an exception ( I assume this is normal):

strSQL = "SELECT * FROM Prods";
cm.CommandText = strSQL;
da = new SqlDataAdapter( cm );
da.Fill(shelf);

Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this problem?

((0)) Set As Default Value Or Binding For An Int Data Type

Jun 5, 2007

Hi there,

I'm trying to set an int type attribute to 0 for its Default Value, but it keeps reverting to ((0)). What is causing this?

Every int type attribute on that table does the same. There is one bit type attribute and a bunch of other type of attributes, but non of them are giving me a problem. The table is a copy from another database and I did check all the constraints and properties to make sure they're the same.

Error About Nested Table Data Binding

Dec 10, 2007

Hi,

Referring to the book "Data Mining with SQL Server 2005" written by ZhaoHui Tang, I created a Mining Structure and a Mining Model with the AMO API after creating Database and Data Access Objects(referred to code lists from 14-1 to 14-6). I added Nested Table by creating a table column and added a key column to the nested table, while the error showed that in my structure the column of the nested table didn't include effective data bindings when processing.

Thanks for any suggestion!

Data Binding To A Stored Procedure That Returns Two Result Sets

Mar 6, 2007

Hi there everyone.  I have a stored procedure called “PagingTableâ€? that I use for performing searches and specifying how many results to show per ‘page’ and which page I want to see.  This allows me to do my paging on the server-side (the database tier) and only the results that actually get shown on the webpage fly across from my database server to my web server.  The code might look something like this:

strSQL = "EXECUTE PagingTable " & _
"@ItemsPerPage = 10, " & _
"@CurrentPage = " & CStr(intCurrentPage) & ", " & _
"@TableName = 'Products', " & _
"@UniqueColumn = 'ItemNumber', " & _
"@Columns = 'ItemNumber, Description, ListPrice, QtyOnHand', " & _
"@WhereClause = '" & strSQLWhere & "'"

The problem is the stored procedure actually returns two result sets.  The first result set contains information regarding the total number of results founds, the number of pages and the current page.  The second result set contains the data to be shown (the columns specified).  In ‘classic’ ASP I did this like this.

'Open the recordset
rsItems.Open strSQL, conn, 0, 1

'Get the values required for drawing the paging table
intCurrentPage = rsItems.Fields("CurrentPage").Value
intTotalPages = rsItems.Fields("TotalPages").Value
intTotalRows = rsItems.Fields("TotalRows").Value

'Advance to the next recordset
Set rsItems = rsItems.NextRecordset

I am trying to do this now in ASP.NET 2.0 using the datasource control and the repeater control.  Any idea how I can accomplish two things:

A) Bind the repeater control to the second resultset
B) Build a “pager of some sort using the values from the first resultset

Reporting Services :: Keep Multiple Data Tables Having Fixed Size Data In Same Page On Runtime?

I have a report where in I have a combination of matrix ,table data regions.

The problem what I am facing is that the data tables don't remain fixed in their position and they tend to move down.

E.g. table 1 and table 2  are on the same page in design time side by side (right and left)however during the runtime the table1 is pushed down and table2 is at its position .

Now how can I keep them all fixed in their same position. Most of the tables have fixed size rows  and some who have high size of rows have been put at the end . What settings we can set?

Help With Modifying A Data Source's Query At Runtime

Sep 13, 2007

Please help figure out what is wrong with my code. The script is supposed to load a package (from file). The loaded package already has everything set up to run a query against a local server and output the results to an Excel file. The reason for the outer script is because I need to change the query based on a global variable. When the query changes, though, I think the existing dataflow Path is no longer valid, so I should remove it and re-create another one with the new input mappings. Here is my code, which runs and throws an exception at the AcquireConnections call.

The error is

Data Source Column Discovery At Runtime? Help Much Appreciated

May 10, 2006

Hi -- I am fairly new to SSIS development, although I am starting to appreciate it more an more, especially since I have started getting into extending the object model. Here's my question:

I have a data flow that pulls data from any number of different delimited files with different numbers of columns. I have had no problem dealing with setting up run-time file locations and file names by using the expressions of a flat file data source, and i have been able to pretty easily deal with varying file delimiters by standardizing the files before they get into the data flow. however, I have not been able to come up with a solution that will allow my data source to discover its column info at run time, and then pass that information on to the data flow task. all i really care about is being able to properly parse the individual rows into individual column data by the flat file data source because the data flow itself is able to discover the actual data that the columns hold at run-time.

i would very much appreciate any feedback from anyone on possible solutions for this.

thanks!
