I have a SQL database with 1 column in it.. it is a do not call registry for my office. I want to make a web application so our leads can go on the web and request to be put on the do not call list. problem is, if their number already exists, it gets a violation of primary key...
Normal handling for this would be to do a select query based on user input, and if it exists in the database, tell them that, else do the insert query...
Problem is, i cant seem to figure out how to bind the result of the select query to a textbox or label so i can compare the results to do that logic. Any ideas? This is in asp .net 2.0. Thanks!

Hi all. I have a label on my page and I want to bind it to a field in a table. The catch is that I want to bind it to the last row in the table. I think I can use the custom binding, but I don't know how to bind to the last row. Any Suggestions ? p.s. The page is tied to an SqlDataSource that retrieves the data from the above table. I'm trying to develop a VB.NET (2005) form with just a ComBobox and a TextBox.
I bind a combobox with the SqlCeResultset (Scrollable | Updatable ). Do the same with the TextBox. Combobox1.DataSource = rsResultSet TextBox1.DataBindings.Add("Text", rsResultSet, "Obs")
This works (when I change the Combo item the textbox changes as well) but any changes to the textbox text do not reach the DB.If i change the Combobox item and back the old data is still there. If i look at the result set it does appear as updateable.

Hi all,I would like to do something I thought was simple but I can't seem to figure it out. I would like to bind the Text properties to two labels to the columns in an SqlDataSource, much the same as you can bind a listbox to a SqlDataSource.Is this possible?The reason why I'm trying it this way is because I originally used an OleDB connection and datareader, but it doesn't seem to work on our service providers server (keeps saying that it can't find the database) even though it works on the four other server's I've tried. It definitely connects to the database when I use the SqlDataSource on a listbox control, but it fails when I use the same connection string with the OleDB connection.Is this the best way to go about it, or should I persist with finding the OleDB/datareader (the service provider has been no help at all). Hi, I am using a SQL DataSource with a few parameters. I need to specify the value of the parameters at run time but I need a custom way to do it as the value needs to be calculated not come from Cookie, Control, Form, Profile, QueryString or Session. Is there a way to bind your own value to these parameters. For instance if I had a variable how would I bind that to the parameter? At the moment i am doing the following which works but I dont think it is the correct way dsMyDataSource.SelectParameters["MyParameter"].DefaultValue = MyCalculatedValue; In previous projects i have added a value to the Session and then bound the parameter value to the session but that doesnt seem like a good solution either. However tp precheck the items, you have to do this manually. This part works fine. Next part was to save whatever the user checks. Ive run into a situation where some code im using will not function the same when between these two cases. So, this has me wondering what is going on behind the scenes. What is the sequence of events that are occurring that would possibly be messing things up.Here is the sample codeIts a gridview that is using a sqldatasource control. The code works fine, but if you want to bind the grid to a dataset and call databind yourself, things dont work as expected and the other features that the code performs just isnt happening, at least not for me.
Hi every experts I have a exist Stored Procedure in SQL 2005 Server, the stored procedure contain few output parameter, I have no problem to get result from output parameter to display using label control by using SqlCommand in Visual Studio 2003. Now new in Visual Studio 2005, I can't use sqlcommand wizard anymore, therefore I try to use the new sqldatasource control. When I Configure Datasource in Sqldatasource wizard, I assign select field using exist stored procedure, the wizard control return all parameter in the list with auto assign the direction type(input/ouput....), after that, whatever I try, I click on Test Query Button at last part, I always get error message The Query did not return any data table. My Question is How can I setup sqldatasource to access Stored Procedure which contain output parameter, and after that How can I assign the output parameter value to bind to the label control's Text field to show on web? I am working with a Detailsview. I am displaying information from a number of different tables, and so when I configure the datasource I have to specify a custom sql statement. I can get it to display the right columns, but I cannot seem to be able to use a where statement. I am wanting to display the info in the Detailsview based on what is entered into a textbox, but I get an error when I try to add in the where statement. Can someone tell me what I am missing here? I enter a id in the textbox and based on that it give me a list of all entries in gridview that use that id.This works.But if I leave it blank it gives me nothing. I want to make it so if I leave it blank it give me all the id's.Do I have to modify the sqldatasource on pageload?
Hi! I have a page (a search page) with sqldatasource, gridview and set of textboxes. The sqldatasource is using stored procedure with parameters. Using the visual wizard i'm associating the parameters with apropriate textboxes controls. It all works, like a charm. The problem arises when I input some dangerous code in any textbox , like ' or % . I'm having exception about unenclosed strings, generally info about the possibility of sql injection. I thought that using ControlParameters, any Parameter in fact is sqlinjection safe, but apparently it isn't. Does anyone know the right way of achieving my goal? It's very urgent.

I have a sqlDatasource with 3 parameters based on the input of 3 text boxes on the page. The datasource returns sales details for a company based on a from and to date. I am attempting to set the value of the 3 parameters in the Selecting event of the datasource control but I'm not getting any data back. If I set the values literally then I get data back. Also when I step through the code I can see the 3 parameters getting their values from the textboxes and the drop down list as they should. This is driving me insane as I'm new to .net and just can't see what is stopping me retrieving the data when using the form fields to set the datasources parameters. Hi, it is few days I posted here my question, but received no answer. Maybe the problem is just my problem, maybe I put my question some strange way. OK, I try to put it again, more simply. I have few textboxes, their values I need to transport to database. I set SqlDataSource, parameters... and used SqlDataSource.Insert() method. I got NULL values in the database's record. So I tried find problem by using Microsoft's sample code from address http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.sqldatasource.insert.aspx. After some changes I tried that code and everything went well, data were put into database. Next step was to separate code beside and structure of page to two separate files followed by new test. Good again, data were delivered to database. Next step: to use MasterPage, very simple, just with one ContentPlaceHolder. After this step the program stoped to deliver data to database and delivers only NULLs to new record. It is exactly the same problem which I have found in my application. I compared html code of two generated pages - with maserPage and without. What is the C# code I use to do this? I'm guessing it should be fairly simple, as there is only one row selected. I just need to pull out a specific field from that row and then insert that value into a different SqlDataSource.
