Blank Fields In Excel File

I am trying to validate and import a Excel file into the database table using script component. The file contains some blank columns in the sheet. Certain Numeric Fields Not Read From The Excel File When Using A Excel File Source.

I have the Excel Connection Manager and Source to read the contents from an Excel file. For some reason couple of numeric fields from the Excel worksheet are brought over as nulls even though they have a value of 300 and 150. I am not sure why this is happening. I looked into the format of the fields and they are set to General in Excel, I tried setting them to numeric and that did not help.

All the other content from the excel file is coming thru except for the 2 numeric fields.

I tried to bring the contents from the excel source to a text file in csv format and for some reason the 2 numeric fields came out as blank.

Any inputs on getting this addressed will be much appreciated.

Inserting Blank Fields Into Sql Server

when inserting or updating fields in sql server and the field is blank sql still adds several spaces into the field.  Then if I try to check whether a field is empty or not for display I get incorrect results because fields that should be empty have 2 or 3 spaces in them instead and therefor aren't selected as being empty.  Is there any way around this? to force the fields to be saved as blanks or null?

I thought this was working, but apparently it was not. I was wondering how I would create a SELECT Statement for values that are blank (Equal to ""). I really could have swore that this was working, but I guess it wasn't.

Several textboxes are being on a web form for date entry. and we want to allow the user to leave date fields blank (if particular date is unknown).  However, when the field is left blank, the SQL Server 2000 database defaults to 1/1/1900 (datatype = datetime).My question is as follows:  How is it possible to leave a date textbox field blank, and either send 000000 or spaces to the SQL Server 2000 database datetime field?Any advice/insight is appreciated!  Rob

I am delivering report in Excel format every Monday. I am also including link with that email.
sometime, it delivers excel sheet correct and sometime it just gives blank sheet in attachment and the strange thing is that We can see data through the included link, but not in excel attachment.

Any idea??

Blank Rows In Export To Excel

Hi All,

Few days back we faced a problem when we were doing an Export to Excel of a report which was using sub-reports. After going thro. the knowledge base articles we came to know that SSRS currently doesn't suppot this option, an alternate is to use use List instead of tables, so we used List and did all the formatting with the list and the data was displayed correctly and it was Exporting to Excel also properly. But now we found out that after doing an Export to Excel, the Excel File is leaving blank rows between the data (i.e.,) If the report consists of two rows, then it displays the first row in the 10th row of excel and the second row in the 12th row of excel. The 11th row is blank and it appears as a small blank row between 10 and 12. The actual problem because of this is we are not able to do Auto filter in Excel, because Excel by default considers the values only until it encounters a blank row when we are doing auto filter. So is there a way to avoid this blank row while exporting to Excel, we have tried to remove the borders and all other stuffs but nothing seems to work. Have anyone encountered the same problem or is there any work around for this problem. Thanks in advance.

I use an excel datasource to populate some simple dimensions, but when i extract the excel file i get alot of blank rows from the excel files...

How can i overcome this issue? Is this normal?

I never had problems like this using DTS in the 2000 version

When i use a preformated excel sheet as destination in data flow task, When a export is done a blank row appears in between the header and data i.e. row no 2.

Is there any way to remove the blank row.

Creating A Blank File

Hi All,

We have a fairly standard process whereby we get a trigger file from a client FTP site, and check whether it's blank (zero length) or not. if it's not zero length, then we attempt to download the actual data file. if that's successfull, we overwrite the trigger file with a blank file.

now this is all very easy in a batch script or unix shell script, but there appears to be no "create file" option in the file system task. I've also tried having a flat file destination in a data flow task but it insists that it wants columns to be fed to it.

how can I create a blank file?!?!?

BCP Import With Blank Lines In Text File

I am trying to bcp import a text file into a SQL Server 2000 database.The text file is coming out of a java application where orderinformation is written to the text file. Each record is on it's ownrow, so the last item in each record has a new line character at theend of it to create the next row. This works well in creating the filehowever bcp does not like to import this text file with the extra blankline at the end. If I change the new line character to the beginning ofthe records then there is a blank line at the top of the text file,which bcp also does not like. Script Component Leading Blank Row In Flat File

I have created a Script Component in my Data Flow that basically reads records from an SQL Table and outputs 3 rows for each input row. My problem is that the Script is outputing a blank row at the beginning of the file. I have requested no headers for the delimited file. I know it is the script because my data viewer from the table doesn't show this additional line where the data viewer from my script and the file has the additional blank line.

Delete Blank Row In Flat File Destination From Conditional Split

Hello everybody
I have one question about deleting blank row on flat file destination from conditional split.
I create an SSIS package to filter data from Flat file source.
On flat file source, it is Ragged right format and header row delimeter in {CR}{LF}
the coulums are devided manulaay using markers.
I use only 2 columns divided and send the source into conditional split task and the conditions are given to filter data,
when the output from conditional split is placed on flat file destination, i notice blank rows on the output. I want to delete the blank rows so the result data can be displayed continuously in rows.
anybody has any idea for this? I know the script task will work but hope to avoid to use script task.

I have created the 9 datasources, ordering each on a field commmon to all.

I have created the required derived columns headers and have merged all the record types into a file.

The resulting file looks fine, except for the odd blank line between record types. Any ideas regarding cause and what to do to fix?

I receive blanks for a column called value and i need to represent it as a blank or NA into a colum whose datatype is float in the datawarehouse.

how is this possible because in current schenario a blank is being converted to 0
which is not the right thing.

i have an SSIS package that exports to an excel file. This works fine. the problem is that it appends the data instead of overwriting the file. Is there any way to overwrite the file like you can with a flat file? I have to email the file everyweek and don't want to have to clear it out manually. Any help would be appreciated

Default To NULL Instead Of Blank/empty String During Flat File Import

Hi,

In SSIS flat file import using fastload, I'm trying to import data into SQL 2005 previously created tables.

The table may contain column that are NULLable BUT there is NO DEFAULT for them.

If the incoming data from flat files contains nothing either between the delimeters, how can I have a NULL value inserted in the column instead of blank/empty string?

I didn't find an easy flag unless I'm doing something wrong. I know of at least two ways to do it the hard way:

1- set the DEFAULT(NULL) for EVERY column that needs this behaviour

2-set up some Derived Column option in the package to return NULL if the value is missing.

Both of the above are time consuming since I'm dealing with many tables. Is there a quick option to default the value to NULL WHEN there is NO data ELSE insert the data itself? So the same behavior that I have right now except that I want NULL in place of empty string/blank in the varchar(x) columns.

Excel Destination Errors For Fields &&> 255 Chars

Hi:

Am trying to write sql2005 data to Excel. I have problems when data length exceeds 255 chars. I used a sample destination file with cells containing >255 chars where required, so that the Excel Destination external column was recognized as DT_Text.

My oledb source columns(external and output) are both varchar (1000).

Works fine , but fails when values>255 chars.

Error 0xC0202009 on ProcessInput.



I use SQL2005 enterprise SP2.

I tried changing the Oledb source output to Textstream, but that does not work at all.



How do I export values >255 chars to excel?

Importing Data From Excel To Update Existing Fields

I have an excel file that contains column A with names of components and products followed by column B which has each respective quantity on hand. I want to import that data to our website's SQL database that has a products table with a column, Pf_ID, that has only product names not component names and In_Stock which contains out-dated information that I want updated from column B of the excel file.

I think I've figured out how to use DTS and update the two fields, but I'm afraid that when everything runs new entries will be created with component information. Is it possible to specify that only rows where Pf_ID matches some row in column A that same row's column B will be used to update the data in In_Stock. I may have just made things too confusing than they need to be, but I don't have much experience with EM or Excel.

I'm also considering trying to write a macro that will match Pf_IDs in an exported excel file of the products table and take rows out of the excel file with current quantity information putting them in a new excel file to import into the website's database.

Please help, this is getting really confusing.

Hope you could help me w/ my project.
Im creating a DTS Package. The source data will be coming from an excel file going to my SQL table. The DTS package is scheduled to execute daily, but the source data will be coming from different excel filename.
Example, today the DTS will get data from Data092506.xls. Then tomorrow, the data will be coming from Data092606.xls.
How can I do this? The DTS I've already done has a fixed source data file.

Integration Services :: Excel Destination With Run Date-1 Inside File Not The File Name

I have a ssis package where I need to have excel destination.  In the Excel file, I need to have few rows with some text and then populate data below the text. One the text is like this:

Data as of:  08/25/2015

if the report ran today, then Data as of will have Yesterday. So, if the user opens that excel file after a week, then user should see same  Data as of:  08/25/2015. not today()-day(1).

I was planing to handle on excel side with today()-day(1). but it only works the day it was run. Then the excel file is open after few days later, then it might as Data as of:  08/30/2015 which is not true. It should still stay Data as of:

 08/25/2015 on what ever date the excel file is open. The SSIS package  runs only once. 

How do I handle this so that whenever user open the file, they will see Data as of:  08/25/2015. This is not a column in excel. It is like a description of data in excel.

Meta Data Synchronization With Excel File Source Once We Update The File

1. Excel file Source--> monthly Revenue details
2. Derived Colum Transoformations
3. Oledb Destination

its my flow in one of my packates (ETL job)
Excel file contains monthly revenue details, i wanna import the excel data to my database staging table, so i've created the package.
its working fine...

Problem
if we change the new data for the next month and running the package its not running;
the same file, same format, only we delete the contents, of the file except first row of the excel sheet,
and pasting the new data;
new data is coming from Oracle DataBase in the form of excel sheet ( manually they will copy the data and sending to us)

i open that package in design mode and while double clicking the excel file source it says <column name>'s Meta Data needs to be synchronized
Do you want to Fix this issue automatically with the available external column's meta data

Clearly noted that its a data type issue; i have changed the corresponding data types as it is in the previous Excel sheet which is equivalant to the Table its copying to.

now the package is running with validation warnings, External Column "Invoice Amount" needs to be updated...etc. some 2 or three warning messages i can able to see in the package Execution wizard,

ok, i'm ready to accept these warnings, and i want my package running from my server;( packages had been deployed in to the Centeralized server; every time if we want to run the package, we have the asp.net webpage, that is executing the package in an On_click event)

The package is not running from the server, its due to the meta data change in the Excel file( i guess)

please suggest me some guide lines to resolve this meta data issue, i want my excel sheet meta data should not change when we have new updates in it;

otherwise suggest me some solutions that i can validate the excel sheet before running the package and testing whether the data is in correct format or not? its a kind of Data Profiling activity;

i know its some what crazy, but i need to maintain the system with permanent solution, instead of facing this meta data mismatch issue!!!

some what lenthy explanation--> its needed for my dear powerful microsoft responders. i think i 've explained my problem clearly, if i don't let me know your queries, i'll try my level best.
