Blocked From SSRS 2005 After Installing IE7
Dec 21, 2006
After installing IE7, I tried to open SQL Server Reporting Services 2005,
I'm getting a login prompt. I am admin on my laptop. My admin login
doesn't work here.
Am I missing a special security setting for IE7 that I have to change to
allow access to SSRS? I can open the SSRS configuration tool,
but not SSRS itself.
Thanks!!

Hi,
I am installing SSRS 2005 with the following scenario:
- Report Server and Report Manager will be installed on web server
- The repository databases (ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB) will be hosted in SQL2005 cluster server.
Both servers are running Win2003 SP1, SQL/SSRS 2005 SP1
When I try to browse the ReportServer virtual directory from IIS on the web server, the system keep asking username and password. After 3 times trials and it failed eventhough the username and password is correct.
The error message is:
HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
Internet Information Services (IIS)
I've been searching on the web and found couple of articles talking about this issue. I've tried some of them like: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887993 or even this one: http://groups.google.ca/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.reportingsvcs/browse_frm/thread/991c9178ceab8f58/8f1a447aa60ad837?lnk=st&q=reporting+services+the+server+is+not+responding&rnum=3&hl=en#8f1a447aa60ad837
But this doesn't work.
I've checked both event viewer both web server and SQL server, but I can't see any information that tell me what had happened.
I also look at BOL, but doesn't help much.
Is there anyone can help me or point me to the right direction? Is there any guide document that explains step-by-step how to install SSRS in my scenario or similiar?
Many Thanks,
Usman Tjiudri

Hi all, Im new here so il start with a little introduction of myself, My name is Arjan im 19 years old from Holland, and i work for a company to compleet my ICT Education.
My situation:
My boss gave me a server with server 2003 standard and Sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 installed already, he asked me if i could figure out how the 'new' reporting services work, Im pretty new to SQL and the reporting service but i figured out i had to install asp.net / frameworks and IIS.
So right now i wanna start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and i get an error that says 'Invalid namespace' and when im trying to approach by using my browser i get 'page not found' so obviously their is Alot wrong. I asked my boss if i could not reinstall everything and do it in the correct order (IIS / ASP.net / Frameworks before installing SQL server 2k5 but that was not an option because we dont seem to have the cd's anymore.
The server is not connected to any network or the internet.
My Question:
Is their any way to fix this? and if yes could anyone tell me where to start
Thanks in Advance!
ps if their is information or logs that u need in order to help me just say so :-)

I'm getting the following error when I try to run SQL05 SP2 on my server. When I get to the Authentication screen, I select Windows Authentication and check the box to use for all services. I am logged in using my personal admin account. I click the 'Test' button. Connection to Database Services, instance name 'MSSQLSERVER' is successful. However, connection to Reporting Services, instance name 'myserverSSRS' fails. The error message is: "Login failed: HResult 0x2, Level 16, State 1, Named pipes provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server[2]. Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server."
I've had problems getting Reporting Services to work. Is this message a result of SSRS not being set up properly? How can I correct this?

I have a question about blocked processes. My manager wants to know how you can know the following when a blocked process is encountered.
The job, program and the statement that is causing the blocking. I have figured out how to determine the database involved but not a lot else. Such as in the blocked process report there is a waitresource field. How to you decipher it?
The report also tells you the client application, but in this case it just states the Micro focus Net Express as the client, not the job or program that is running.
I have an inputbuf listed but it just shows the database id, and the object id. And I am not sure how to locate the object id in this case, I am guessing sys.objects, but I do not seem to find that one.
I have read many things on MSN about the blocked process report, but it does not seem to go into great detail.
I seem to have all the pieces, but do not exactly know how to quickly tie them all together.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kathy

I am upgrading a sql server 2000 with sp4 (I have double and triple checked the sp) on a windows 2003 sp1 server and I keep getting the following error:
Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2000
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
Service pack requirement check:
Your upgrade is blocked because of service pack requirements. To proceed, apply the required service pack and then rerun SQL Server Setup. For more information about upgrade support, see the Version and Edition Upgrades topic in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
I cannot find anything saying that I need any other service pack other than sp4 for sql serer 2000. Any one ever run into this or have a clue what might be causing the installer to think I have the wrong service pack?

Perhaps someone here can give me a hand with this...
I have three servers running SQL Server 2000. Two are running Windows Server 2000 SP4 with SQL 2000/SP4 and one Windows Server 2003 with SQL 2000/SP?(probably not 4). I copied the installation DVD to a network drive and successfully performed an in-place upgrade of the Windows Server 2003 machine. However, when I try to upgrade either of the other servers, I get an error indicating that I have a service pack problem.
Of course, the error doesn't indicate what the service pack problem actually is. My SQL 2005 media was probably released before SP4 was released because the Setup Help indicates that you can directly upgrade from SP3, but makes no mention of SP4. I can't imagine there are any migration problems with it since I can't find any reference to it as a problem on any SQL Server sites... So... I'm left wondering what my problem really is... :confused:
Any help would be appreciated.

I've inherited 6 sql server 2000 boxes. I've upgrade 3 with no trouble. now I have one that gives the message :
"your upgrade is blocked because of cross-language compatibility rules.
For more information about cross-language support, see the version..."
all servers are 2003, sp2. All SQL is Enterprise edition, default language is "english". even the collation order is
the same. why the cross language message? Any help would be good else I'll be forced to rebuild the DB and load application again. ugly!!

Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools
Hello,
I am having a problem when trying to add the Client Components to an existing installation of SQL 2005 Standard Edition SP1 running on Windows 2003 Standard. The server was originally built with SQL 2005 Standard Edition and had SP1 installed at a later date. I am using the CD that SQL was originally installed with which is not a service packed copy of SQL. The reason given when clicking the details button is as follows:
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
Build version check:
Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click Change/Remove.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since installing Reporting Services on my machine, I have been getting an error whenever I try to execute a reader.read line.
When I ran the same exact code on another machine using someone else's credentials who did not have Reporting Services it ran fine. When I tried to run it on someone else's machine who did not have Reporting Services using my own credentials, I got the same error. Also, when the person who's pc and credentials worked fine on his machine ran the same code back on my machine using his own credentials, he got the same error. When another person who also had Reporting Services tried to run it on his own pc, he got the error as well.
When the reader is first executed (MyDataReader = sSql.ExecuteReader) these were the property values:
depth = 0
fieldcount = 5
hasrows = true
isclosed = false
Item = In order to evaluate an indexed property, the property must be qualified and the arguments must be explicitly supplied by the user.
recordsaffected = -1 (even though there are records)
VisibleFieldCount = 5
When the reader is loaded into a table (MyTable.Load(MyDataReader)) then the property values changed to:
Depth = {"Invalid attempt to Depth when reader is closed."}
FieldCount = {"Invalid attempt to Depth when reader is closed."}
HasRows = {"Invalid attempt to Depth when reader is closed."}
IsClosed= True
Item = In order to evaluate an indexed property, the property must be qualified and the arguments must be explicitly supplied by the user.
RecordsAffect = -1
VisibleFieldCount = {"Invalid attempt to Depth when reader is closed."}
And when I execute the the following code:
dtReader = MyTable.CreateDataReader()
While (dtReader.Read())
I get this error:
"DataTableReader is Invalid for Current DataTable"
Since the code works with someone else's credentials on a machine that does not have SSRS, and the same problem happens for me regardless of what machine I am on as long as I am using my own credentials what could be causing my problem?

Is it possible to write SSRS 2008 reports to run on an existing SSRS 2005 server?
If yes, what do I need to do to be able to write SSRS 2008 reports on my developer PC that will run on the SQL 2005 Server (which also has SSRS 2005 installed on it)?
I installed Visual Studio 2008 beta on the development PC and it appears that it needs SSRS installed on it too. So I installed SQL 2008 SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) and SQL 2008 Workstation Components onto the developer PC. Next I run the SQL 2008 "Reporting Services Configuration" tool. When I click on the "Web Service URL" section it hangs indefinitely and I have to force it closed.
The developer PC is Windows Vista Business.
Any suggestions on making this work, or any other information that you can think of that would allow me to use Visual Studio 2008 and the SQL 2008 "Report Designer Preview" tool to develop SSRS reports that will run on the SQL 2005 SSRS server?
Thanks!

Hi, I am running SQL Server 2005 x64 DE on Vista x64. I installed MS VS 2005 Pro. Edition. During the setup of VS, I did a custom install, un-checking the SQL Express addition box. After installation, I received errors that indicated the SQL Express did not install. Even though I do not have SQL Express installed on my machine, MS Update says that I need SQL Express SP2. My SQL DE is up to date with SP2 and MS Update indicates as "optional" that I need SQL SP2.
Is SQL Express a necessity for VS Pro? If not, why is MS Update indicating that I need SQL Express SP2? In addition, why is MS Update telling me I need SQL SP2 when it is already installed?
Note: I installed SQL SP2 manually, not through MS Update. This makes me believe that MS Update is not detecting it.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help,
Abel

I installed sql server 2005 sp2 including business intelligence development suite , however I got a message
some client components not compablitable .This morning I searched my programs and found that I have new
visual studio 2005 on my computer (before I just had vs 2008) as well as business intelligence
developer (which does not work) It seems I I would like to get rid of vs 2005 also
fix business intelligence studio . Previously I deleted vs 2005 express off my computer........(I have vista
and I would only like to keep tools meant for sql standard 2005 reporting services etc
here is a list of my sql sp2 install package
By the way I doubled clicked sql_tools.msi and did not run as administrator
Does that make a difference? I wonder if this is a problem with vs 2008 and sql 2005......

Installed Visual Studio Team Suite
Installed Team Explorer
Installed SQL 2005 with all the features turned on (so everything installs)
Result: None of the SQL Management Studio tools show up.
I checked ARP and see all the entries for Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
I also checked the Services and see SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER).
I also see SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) but don't see an ARP entry for it.
Any ideas on how to install the SQL 2005 Studio tools?

Hi everybody.
I'm looking to upgrade to SQL Server 2005 (Standard Edition). I'm interested in using SSIS, SSRS and SSAS. I hear that BIDS runs inside of Visual Studio 2005, and comes with the SQL 2005 software. I currently have VS 2003. My question is: Do I need to purchase anything besides SQL Server 2005 Standard, or do I need to buy anything separately, like VS 2005? (if so, which version would you recommend?)
Thank you very much!

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me. I was trying to run SQL Server 2005 express edition after downloading it from the internet. I must admit i'm new to SQL server. So this is why i like to get a feel of how it works and that sort of things. However, when i tried to run it, it's saying that i needed .Net Framework 2. Then, after having downloaded the .Net and run the setup, the error message came up with the following message.
"Error creating process <c:Documen~1userslocals~1 empixp000.TMPInstall.exe>. Reason: c:windowssystem32advpack.dll"
It still gives me the same error message after updating the advpack.dll i got from the internet.
Has anyone had the same experience as i've been having now?
Any ideas as to solve it?
Thank you in advance

Hi,
I just installed SQL 2005 express. It did not prompt me for a selection for the collation. How do I tell what collation it is installed at? And how do I tell whether it is case sensitive or not?
Thanks,
Razzle
