Books, Courses And Training About Reporting Service For Dummies

Hi,
We have currently done one data ware house project with MS SQL server, reporting server, analysis server and integration server and the users are very happy with it (especially the speed).
The reports have been developed by a developer. I have years of experience in Visual studio, SQL, reports so I could do it very quickly. The users want to make their own reports so they need training. If I look at the requirements for most books and courses they are pretty hard. You must have some experience in SQL server. Or books are focussed on RS2000. Or the books could elapse the whole spectrum of SQL, ETL, cubes and reports or they go in to securing reports.
I think that is not the information that the users want to know. It should start with what is a cube, what are dimensions and what are facts. Then explain something in how do I get the information in excel. And then make reports in the visual studio environment (not the builder on the report server, but the report designer that comes with the client tools in visual studio). Keep in mind that they are not developers nor database administrators.

I have the opportunity to take some MS SQL Server 2000 training courses for my Marketing Database Analayst job. The companies I have come accross so far are Learning Tree, ONLC Training Centers, and Hands On Technology Transfer, Inc. (HOTT). Has anyone had any experience with these companies?
The course I may be taking are
- Querying Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 with Transact-SQL
- Populating a Data Warehouse with Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 Data Transformation Services
- Administering a Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 Database

I have been trying to use SQL 2005 data mining for about 8 weeks. I am becoming frustrated because I am not able to make progress nor am I able to exploit the power of the system.
I need a training course! I have asked Microsoft in UK for recommendations but they have been unable to help. I have searched for courses in the UK and US without sucess.
I am coming to the Microsoft BI event in Seattle - will there be any opportunities there to get help or find help? (In Seattle I intend to concentrate on the Excel add ins)

Quick question. I am in the NYC area (Westchester) and I am using Cognos DecisionStream to build my SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Data Warehouse.
I want to learn more about complex SQL, specifically for SQL Server.
What do you reccommend? Should I go for strictly an advanced SQL course, or should I go for SQL Server training.
Does anyone know of a really good site where I can find Advanced SQL training?
Also, I want to learn more about scripting and VB. Can anyone reccommend a place where I can get this beginner training.
Sorry to take up your time, but to sum up:
1. Advanced SQL training in NYC area
2. Beginner VB training in NYC area.
Cost is not necessarily an issue.

Help, Had configuration error trying to set up reporting services. Uninstalled SQL Server and Reinstalled, but not all files were removed. How many files and directories do I have to remove to get Reporting Services to work?

I am not new to the SQL Server world, but am somewhat new to the SQL Server 2005 world. I am just getting into the reporting tool. By just messing around for about an hour or so, I was able to get what I wanted somewhat. Basically, I'd like to get up to speed on the reporting side of things fairly quickly. So I am looking at some books, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on any.
Here is a few that caught my eye:
-MS SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services by Brian Larson
-MS SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services for Dummies
-Professional SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services by Paul Turley
-The Rational Guide to SQL Server Reporting Services
I am thinking the 1st two would probably be my best bet, but wanted to get you folks suggestions.

I have a stored procedure using dynamic SQL and I've been told I can no longer use 'exec (@strsql)' and have to use sp_executesql instead.
Fiiiiiiine...except I don't know how to use it and make it work with the parameter I'm passing in.
The original sproc that I have to change reads as:
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.sp_LetsGetSomeData(@Filter nvarchar(200) = NULL)
AS
DECLARE @strSQL nvarchar(200)
IF @Filter IS NOT NULL
BEGIN
SET @strSQL = N'SELECT * FROM vwRandomViewName ' + @Filter
END
IF @Filter IS NULL
BEGIN
SET @strSQL = N'SELECT * FROM vwRandomViewName'
END
EXEC(@strSQL)
GO
And is called thusly:
EXEC sp_LetsGetSomeData @Filter = ' WHERE Team = ''RandomTeam'''
When I do this it never adds the filter. I tried to write a sproc like this:
CREATE PROC dbo.LetsGetSomeData2(@Filter nvarchar(200) = NULL)
AS
DECLARE @strSQL nvarchar(200)
SET @strSQL = N'SELECT * FROM vwRandomView'
EXECUTE sp_executesql @strSQL, @Filter

and call it the same way as the original flavor sproc, it's as if I'm asking it to just select all from vwRandomView.
I know I'm doing something massively wrong but I'm just having a brain-dead day and can't make sense of the books online.

Ok, I'm an idiot. Does anyone out there have some step by step instructions for creating a report that will do mailing labels. I've got multiple columns on my report but I end up with the contents of each column being the same across each grouping/row. In other words for each record read, since I have three columns, I get three occurances of each customer and address until all the data selected for that row is presented, then I go to the next customer which again is repeated across all three columns.
I'm sorry I'm so stupid, but I've looked at other entries on the forum, and I just can't figure it out. We are trying to get out from underneith Business objects thumb and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! - Eric -

We are using the whole BI-package from Microsoft - from SQL, DTS-package,Raporting Service and Analyze Service.
It should be very helpful to be able to create a metadata databases where you could find all releations between different objects (tables,views,reports,cubes,DTS-package,Databases.
Just to get answer for: 'where is view xxx used', 'what are Report xxx depending upon'.
While everything exists in different SQL databases it should possible to do.
Has anyone any comments or the same needs ?

Hello,
In our project, we would like to use the same data source for our analysis service database cubes and for our reporting service reports.
I created the analysis service project first, deployed successfully. When trying to setting up the data source in the report model project, I selected the "create a data source based on another object", and then selected the "create a data source based on an analysis service project". However, there is no analysis service project to select, and no browse button to see where the reporting service is looking for analysis service project either.
I have tried creating a new analysis service project with data source views, cubes, dimensions and all the stuff, but still cannot see the analysis service project in the drop down box to be selected for my reporting model project data source.
As I am fairly new to the reporting service, I'm sure I'm missing something, but couldn't find much information in the help or on the web. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

After I install reporting service add-in for SharePoint, reporting service menu does not appear in Application Management Tab in SharePoint Central Administration.
I try to uninstall and re-install again, it remain not work.

I am new to reporting services.
I have to call the reporting service(some else did this) from the web application that I have created using VB.NET . Not sure how to do it .. was reading few articles on the web .
Any good atricles out there ?
I have created web reference to http://server/ReportServer/ReportService.asmx in my web app. The report expects one parameter .
Below is the code I was starting to write to call the reporting service

Hi all
When I'm installing sql reporting service I get an error that says "ASP.NET is not installed or is not registered with your web server."
I have iis installed, all of .net, and just installed .NET Framework Redist version 1.1
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to register ASP.NET or what I've done wrong.

Hello all experts!
I have a problem I would be very happy if someone could help me out with;
I have a windows 2003 server with SQLExpress and Reporting Services.
I have developed a report in visual studio and successfully deployed that report to the server. I can browse http://localhost/reports to access the report and view them (Via terminal server). But when I browse the page from outside I recieve the following error;
"The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version."
If I run from VisualStudio 2005 and try to access the page I get this message;
"The request failed with HTTP status 401"
What is Wrong??

I've created Report Parameter called AssetCode. In quiry for database, I've created like this:
SELECT a.id1, a.deliverydate, a.retirementdate, b.organisationname, c.costcentre,a.id4,mm.hierarchydescription

But when you run a report, if you put for instance "NA196" as keyword, it doesn't return the data for "NA1961", "NA19602", "NA1965", etc etc. But if you put in textfield such as "NA196%", it get the data. ?!?! So how do replace this behaviour?

Hello, All!
It`s the first time with Reporting Services and would like to know if there
are any performance problems when installed on the same server with a SQL
Server.
I`m a Database Administrator and I have a SQL Server into a DMZ with almost
200GB of data and nowadays the company is demanding a Reporting Service into
a DMZ and we don`t have a dedicated server to use with. Otherwise, we buy a
SQL Server license just for this request don`t worth.
So, we decide to install Reporting Service on this server, but I have no idea
about how much recource is needed to handle it and if this installation could
cause any issues.
Anybody knows how Reporting Service works? Are there any best practices when
installing Reporting Services on a OLTP SQL Server ?
