Hi all, I have newly implemented a Try, Catch in my code (pasted below) and for some reason when I try to have the text of a label changed in the Catch exception, it says "Build failed" and doesn't tell me where the error is. Could anyone tell me what they can see is wrong please? Public Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Try 'error handler for if there is a dulplicate tillname in database (e.g. when user clicks refresh after submit)
Catch ex As SqlException 'What to do if there is a duplicate tillname
'Label2.Text = "test" errorLabel.Text = "This till already exists" Finally SQLDataSource1.Dispose() 'errorLabel.Text = "Till sucessfully added" End Try
End Sub
Protected Sub SqlDataSource1_Selecting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSourceSelectingEventArgs) Handles SQLDataSource1.Selecting
End Sub
Protected Sub GridView1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles GridView1.SelectedIndexChanged
End Sub
Protected Sub SqlDataSource2_Selecting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSourceSelectingEventArgs) Handles SqlDataSource2.Selecting
I am building a SQL statement that returns a number.when I execute the Built SQL statment EXEC(@Build). What I need to donow is take that number that comes back and store it in anothervariable so I can do some conditional logic. Any ideas? See SQL below.Something like @Count=Exec(@Build) which I know doesnt work.Thanks,PhilDECLARE @PullDate varchar(12)SET @PullDate=''+CAST(DATEPART(mm,getdate()-31) AS varchar(2))+'/'+CAST(DATEPART(dd,getdate()-31)AS varchar(2))+'/'+CAST(DATEPART(yyyy,getdate()-31) AS varchar(4))+''PRINT(@PullDate)DECLARE @COUNTER BIGINTDECLARE @SELECT VARCHAR(500)DECLARE @SELECT2 VARCHAR(1000)DECLARE @BUILD VARCHAR(5000)SET @SELECT='SELECT COUNTER FROMOPENQUERY(PROD,'SET @SELECT2='''SELECTCOUNT(WMB.COLLECTOR_RESULTS.ACCT_NUM) AS COUNTERFROMCOLLECTOR_RESULTS,WHEREWMB.COLLECTOR_RESULTS.ACTIVITY_DATE =to_date('''''+@PullDate+''''',''''mm/dd/yyyy'''')AND WMB.COLLECT_ACCOUNT.END_DATE ) =to_date(''''12/31/9999'''',''''mm/dd/yyyy'''')AND WMB.COLLECT_ACCT_SYS_DATA.END_DATE =to_date('''''+@PullDate+''''',''''mm/dd/yyyy''''))GROUP BYWMB.COLLECTOR_RESULTS.ACTIVITY_DATE '')'SET @BUILD=@SELECT+@SELECT2PRINT(@BUILD)EXEC(@BUILD)--THIS IS WHERE IM UNSURE I NEED THE COUNT RETURNED FROM @BUILD STOREDINTO @COUNTER so I can do a conditional statement.)if @COUNTER>=1beginprint('yes')end
II am using file system for the SSIS Packages. I have several packages in a project. Most of these packages use configuration files. Infact there are several packages which use the same configuration files. Now when I try to run the build utility, it errors out saying that the name.dtsconfig file already exists. Seems like this is a bug. I would really like to use this utility.I know if the config file is not used in any other pacakge probably the build will not fail. But it is not good practice to have one config file for each package, it is redundancy, does not make sense to that. Is there any way I can use the build and deployment utility without this error.
I am trying to go through the Data Mining Web Controls Library sample found at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms160727(SQL.90).aspx
I have all the prerequisites installed on my local machine.
When I get to step 4 (On the Build menu, click Rebuild Solution.) in the "To build and install the Data Mining Web Controls" section.. I just get the below error.

I am running SQL Server 2005 SP2 developer edition. I have downloaded all the updated files for the AS project and samples.
I have search online for this error and come up w/ very little. Am I missing something? Is this an old sample that doesn't jive w/ SP2?
I've just installed SQL 2005 SP2 Rollup 3 Package (Build 3186) on a 2 node X64 W2K3 Cluster. Everything went fine, although after the install, the SQLAgent Services of my instances started to complain about delegation not enabled for the domain account used for the SQLAgent Service.
SPN's were already registered, so I've enabled unconstrained delegation & no errors anymore..
Apparently we're obliged to enable delegation as soon as this hotfix is installed
(maybe due to fix 938086 included in it ?)
To make this setup more secure, we would like to enable constrained delegation. This does not seem to work, as soon as we choose constrained delegation by adding the SPN of the clustername to the domain user account we're running with & restart the sql agent, it fails with the same error as when no delegation was configured:
! [298] SQLServer Error: 22022, CryptUnprotectData() returned error -2146892987, 'The requested operation cannot be completed. The computer must be trusted for delegation and the current user account must be configured to allow delegation.' [SQLSTATE 42000] ! [442] ConnConnectAndSetCryptoForXpstar failed (0).
Summary: With Unconstrained delegation enabled for computer account & user account, everything goes fine. As soon as constrained delegation is chosen, by adding the SPN's to the domain user account of SQL Agent, SQL agent fails to start.
We use a domain account for the SQL Agent. This account has an 2 SPN registered on it
We are displaying the report in our reporting application but we do not want to display errors from SSRS to the user. We want to handle the errors and display a user friendly message.
How can that be done?. We are making URL access to the report server.
I am attempting to install the first of the cumulative hotfix packages ( SQL2005-KB918222-x64-ENU.exe) after applying Service Pack 1 to a SQL Server 2005 std edn 64-bit installation. The service pack installed no problem but the hot fix fails with the following errors in the log file below.
I have installed the 32-bit versions of the hotfix packages onto a different server and I did not get these errors.
Any help on how to sort this out would be much appreciated!

I am working on the build of a product where we build all software needed for the various servers automatically (web, SQL, SSAS etc.). Of course, all the standard builds work fine.
However, when building the SSIS project from the command-line, the binDeployment sub-folder is not created and therefore no SSISDeploymentManifest file is created. Even if the binDeployment sub-folder is present then SSISDeploymentManifest file is not created.
The command-line I am using is "C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8Common7IDEdevenv.exe" MyPackages.dtproj /build Release /project MyPackages
Of course, opening the project in Visual Studio and pressing build does indeed create the SSISDeploymentManifest, so the project is configured correctly.
We need a fully automated build, so can anyone help?
I believe that I mistakenly attempted to apply the Analysis Services component of this update before applying the SQL Server component. The update now fails continuously with the following message:

The update fails although I have cleaned the registry of any reference to it. Another article indicated that the hotfix may delete registry keys required, for instance, to operated SSIS if applied in the wrong order. Here, it appears to be preventing the hotfix from being reapplied. I have ensured that all necessary permissions are available and the services are running in domain user accounts with the necessary rights. I'm the administrator on the machine.
Is there a way to get this hotfix applied without having to completely rip and rebuild my server instance?

I am not a DBA but have responsibility for a particular MSSQL 2008 R2 file server running a particular application.how to solve a database consistency check problem. The database fails dbcc checkdb with multiple 8903 errors. Unfortunately this was not discovered until well after any good backups were deleted. The good news is that the DB otherwise seems fine. We have experienced zero problems with the DB or the applications. Running the checkdb with the "repair_allow_data_loss" option does not fix the problem.
However, I would still like to fix the problem. Using a popular SQL recovery product I am able to recover the database. The original, vendor designed and supplied DB, has 2 file groups, and three files (MDF, NDF, LDF). The output of the recovery process produces 1 file group and 2 files (MDF and LDF). Vendor says they cannot support me since the recovered DB is 'non-standard' according to their design.
I am able to set up a new, blank version of the vendors database on another dev system with the proper file and filegroup structure. How can I get the data moved/copied from the recovered (MDF/LDF) database into the dev database (MDF, NDF, LDF). I've tried the import/export function but it fails (I can rerun and give details if necessary).
we have automated build on every night. In our solution is SSIS project, where each package is encrypted per password. We call build process per command line like this..
C:ProgrammeMicrosoft Visual Studio 8Common7IDEdevenv.exe (c:DevelopmentX3\X3.sln /build Release)' in 'c:DevelopmentProjectsDailyBuild
Through build process we get a error:
External Program Failed: C:ProgrammeMicrosoft Visual Studio 8Common7IDEdevenv.exe (return code was 1):
We think a reason is, that on build of SSIS project must be entered a password. You can wonder for what we need that SSIS packages are part of our build. We hope that on build process is also created Deployment Utility, if so set in dtproject.user. Is it so? Is there any way to create Deployment utility on automated build process? Can be a password provided pre command line?
I have a strange problem. I have some code that executes a sql query. If I run the query in SQL server query analyzer, I get a set of data returned for me as expected. This is the query listed on lines 3 and 4. I just manually type it into query analyzer. Yet when I run the same query in my code, the result set is slightly different because it is missing some data. I am confused as to what is going on here. Basically to examine the sql result set returned, I write it out to an XML file. (See line 16). Why the data returned is different, I have no idea. Also writing it out to an XML file is the only way I can look at the data. Otherwise looking at it in the debugger is impossible, with the hundreds of tree nodes returned. If someone is able to help me figure this out, I would appreciate it. 1. public DataSet GetMarketList(string region, string marketRegion)2. {3. string sql = @"SELECT a.RealEstMarket FROM MarketMap a, RegionMap b " + 4."WHERE a.RegionCode = b.RegionCode"; 5. DataSet dsMarketList = new DataSet();6. SqlConnection sqlConn = new SqlConnection(intranetConnStr); 7. SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(sql,sqlConn);8. sqlConn.Open();9. SqlDataAdapter adapter = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd); 10. try11. {12. adapter.Fill(dsMarketList); 13. String bling = adapter.SelectCommand.CommandText;//BRG 14. dsMarketList.DataSetName="RegionMarket"; 15. dsMarketList.Tables[0].TableName = "MarketList"; 16. dsMarketList.WriteXml(Server.MapPath ("myXMLFile.xml" )); // The data written to 17. myXMLFile.xml is not the same data that is returned when I run the query on line 3&4 18. // from the SQL query 19. } 20. catch(Exception e) 21. { 22. // Handle the exception (Code not shown)
I recently updated the datatype of a sproc parameter from bit to tinyint. When I executed the sproc with the updated parameters the sproc appeared to succeed and returned "1 row(s) affected" in the console. However, the update triggered by the sproc did not actually work.
The table column was a bit which only allows 0 or 1 and the sproc was passing a value of 2 so the table was rejecting this value. However, the sproc did not return an error and appeared to return success. So is there a way to configure the database or sproc to return an error message when this type of error occurs?
I have a parent package that calls child packages inside a For Each container. When I debug/run the parent package (from VS), I get the following error message: Warning: The Execution method succeeded, but the number of errors raised (3) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors.
It appears to be failing while executing the child package. However, the logs (via the "progress" tab) for both the parent package and the child package show no errors other than the one listed above (and that shows in the parent package log). The child package appears to validate completely without error (all components are green and no error messages in the log). I turned on SSIS logging to a text file and see nothing in there either.
If I bump up the MaximumErrorCount in the parent package and in the Execute Package Task that calls the child package to 4 (to go one above the error count indicated in the message above), the whole thing executes sucessfully. I don't want to leave the Max Error Count set like this. Is there something I am missing? For example are there errors that do not get logged by default? I get some warnings, do a certain number of warnings equal an error?

We are trying to install the Standard Edition of SQL Server 2005. We already have SQL Express installed. Standard won't install and Express won't uninstall.
We have tried every suggestion we can find and some we made up. When we try to install Standard, we get to the bit where you choose what you want to install and the only thing available is workstation components.
There are so many cases of this on the Internat that I can't believe MS have not solved the issue. And I am stunned that they want to charge us more money to talk to us about how to fix something we just paid them an arm and a leg for!
What do I need to tell you to get some idea of where to go next with this?
I know how to use sql to write a block of sql statements by cutting and pasting the results in to the execution window. Now my question is this... is there a way to create the sql and execute the results. i.e. Automatically cut and paste the results into the execution window and run it?? Something to munch on if your bored. Ideas appreciated.
The common way that we use to delpoy reports in production server is using rsbuild.config file and running the command to execute it. Is this a Microsoft product ? does it have any licensing issue if i need to use this approach in my production environment to deploy the reports?
Hi, I have two tables called Actcodes and a another table called FundBalances...
The Act codes have the following format..
PlanId int, ClientId int, StartDate datetime, EndDate datetime, ClientActCode char(2) CodeDescription char(15) so based on what the user has selected i am getting the names of each codes
and my fund balance i have the following rows.. PlanId int Participantid int StartDAte datetime, end date datetime, FundId int Loans Act1 char(2) TotAct1 money . Act20 char(2) TotAct20 money and the data is as follows PlanId ParticipantId StartDate EndDate fundId Loans Act1 TotAct1 Act2 totact2 ----- Act20 TotAct20 111 1212 1/1/2008 3/31/2008 15 NULL 01 15.15 02 15.48 20 12.4561 111 1212 1/1/2008 3/31/2008 45 0 01 45.12 02 453.123 20 54.00 so on and so so forth
tht Act1 matches the ClientActCode in the Act.. So is there a way i can get those column in my select which have actCodes present in the Act code table. for in... in my act code table for this plan i have 01,02,03,04,05,06, 09, 15 clientAct codes
so can i get the its respective Acts and Totacts column as Act1, Act, Act3, Act Act5, Act6 based on the ClientAct codes.

Also, I think I saw a stored procedure that would associate that cryptic string of numbers into text; ex: "SQL 6.5, Service Pack 5"
l would like to intergrate the the two procedures listed below into one procedure or function. l'm doing it in two steps. This report will have each loan listed and a final line summed on each of the amounts? enddate and startdate being my parameters and print the results to screen. And l'm failing to do that thats why its in two steps.Hope this makes it clear enough.
Alter procedure new (@startdate datetime,@enddate datetime) as begin
SELECT Distinct Loan_no AS Loan_no, Date_Issued AS Date_Issued, Store AS Store, Product AS Product, Capital_Amount AS Capital_Amount, Interest_Amount AS Interest_Amount, Total_Amount AS Total_Amount, Insurance_amount As Insurance_Amount, Admin_Fee AS Admin_Fee, User_Issued AS User_Issued, LoanBook AS Company, Status FROM Loan Where Date_Issued BETWEEN '2001-04-01 00:00:00.000' And '2002-05-29 23:59:59.000' End
Alter procedure new1(@startdate datetime,@enddate datetime) As Begin
SELECT Sum(Capital_Amount) AS Capital_Amount, Sum(Interest_Amount) AS Interest_Amount, Sum(Total_Amount) AS Total_Amount, Sum(Insurance_amount) As Insurance_Amount, Sum(Admin_Fee) AS Admin_Fee FROM Loan Where Date_Issued BETWEEN '2001-04-01 00:00:00.000' And '2002-05-29 23:59:59.000'
